Customers admire the 15.6" Laptop for its budget-friendly price, lightweight design, and sufficient performance for basic tasks. While some users appreciate the extended battery life, others express concerns about the build quality, limited number of USB ports, and the learning curve associated with Windows 8.

Great laptop for a great price

I purchased this because my standby laptop does not run a Windows OS, which I need for most of my business applications. For $249, which Best Buy kindly price adjusted for me to $229 when it went on sale a few days later, it has everything I need and more. I am thrilled with the screen and graphics. The processor (essentially an i3) is surprisingly fast for most of what I do. It does run very cool, enabling me to Skype for 9+ hours at a time without any difficulty. I have found the battery life to be much longer than stated - up to 6 hours. For me, the only drawback is only having one USB 2 port, but that is easily remedied with a USB hub. The DVD drive works well and I can't complain since most laptopsin this price range do not include a DVD drive. I am not the biggest fan of Windows 8, but have been placing most frequently used programs on my desktop so it is more similar to earlier Windows versions. I would recommend this to anyone!

Got this for a backup and just recently tried to set it up after sitting in storage for 2 years in my closet.(never used before) Got as far as getting through the settings and that was it. Battery went dead plugged back in after already charged for 3 hours and indicated 0% charged and that the unit was charging.Battery never charged and took it to the geeks at BB and was told that the unit was junk but i could not get a refund due to the warranty and the time of purchase had run out even though it was never used.Offered me a $5.00 coupon off on ink.LMAO!

    Great For Price

I bought this laptop due to school. I was looking at the Microsoft store prior. This was actually $50 less than Microsoft had it for with a student discount. After reading reviews I did some research as well. Asus is the #3 brand of laptops out right now for everyday use. Apple was number one. The reviews I read about the laptop were great. I love it so far. The keyboard is perfect for me. I love the screen size. Runs a little slow at times nothing deal breaking. I could do without windows 8.1 but again minor. Changing back windows 7 will be a breeze. Overall for 214 after tax this is a steal of a deal!

Their warranty is very bad I wouldn't buy it again. It stopped working as soon as warranty ended funny thing. I wouldb't recommend it unless you are willing to pay for repairs later on.

    Great Laptop

My very first laptop bought with my very own internship money. This laptop was within my price range so I decided to go ahead and get it so that I could continue working on my hobby (photoshop) projects on the side. Pros: Easy setup, virtually no bloatware, low cost, can run photoshop great, lightweight, keys on keyboard are evenly spaced, can open multiple tabs without slowness Cons: the number pad (I hate it. =_=''), track pad is a little difficult to use because sometimes it goes wherever it wants to All in all, I think this laptop is a great buy for people who are on a low budget.

    Better than expected

    Posted .

OK - i bought this laptop on a whim, I have several Asus products and have never been disappointed, so when I saw this laptop on sale at it was a no-brainer. Verdict: This laptop is far better than expected, this unit will do nicely for all but the most demanding workloads. Here's a pro/con breakdown: PRO: Great Screen: No, not the best screen for sure - but I've seen worse screens on units that cost several hundred dollars more. The screen is very bright, and has a great viewing angle. Flawless build quality: Sturdy and solid., does not feel cheap at all. Keep in mind that the case is all plastic, and that look-wise it's definetely nothing to shout home about. Fast Dual Core Processor: This unit has an Intel Celeron n2840, which is basically an Intel Haswell Core-i3 with less cache and hyper-threading disabled. The processor runs at top at around 2.6Ghz. The processor runs phenomenally cool, even while burn testing I couldn't get the processor above 59 degrees celsius (max. safe temperature with Haswell chips is about 90 degrees celsius). Pretty darn good battery life: I got about 6 hours of battery life at continous usage while doing actual work. Keep in mind that I use a custom OS with a very specific power profile, so your mileage might vary. The advertised 3.25 hours of battery life seem way too low, I would guesstimate about 5-6 hours of usage under windows 8 on a 'regular' workload. Sound: Surprisingly good. Very tweakable with the included software from Asus and definitely sufficient. Temps: Runs cool and is very quiet. Storage/Memory: 4GB of DDR3 RAM, and a relatively fast Seagate Momentus 500 Sata 3 drive. Not exaclty oppulent, but definetely sufficient for almost any task/workload. CONS: The keyboard: Usable but definitely on the light side. A light touch is needed on this keyboard, once you get used to that it works well. Still, if I would change one thing I would want a more substantial keyboard. The button provide very little feedback and feel somewhat flimsy. Bottom Line: If you need a good laptop without breaking the bank, here's a stellar deal. This unit will work for most 'normal' workloads such as casual gaming, web browsing, office work etc. 'Heavy' tasks such as video-encoding or performance gaming will require more substantial hardware. This laptop is a fantastic deal, and better than other laptops that cost more than twice as much.

    A Good Laptop for Basics

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Be sure you charge this laptop for the recommended 3 hours before turning it on. After that, setup is straightforward. Choose custom setup if you want to protect your privacy more. It does not take much longer. You also can do setup without creating a Microsoft account. This laptop has a quick boot-up and is good for basic functions such as Internet, videos, and college homework, but wouldn't be able to handle high-end gaming. On the plus side, it does not run hot and is quiet. The keyboard feels lightweight and sounds tinny. There is a CD/DVD drive, which would not play music or video when I put in discs. Had to install VLC media player (free and reliable) and go into device manager to set defaults for opening/playing media. The online specs said not, but there is an Energy Star stamp under the lid. "Plugged in, not charging" is a message you may see if you put your cursor over the battery icon. The battery will not charge to 100% again until it gets below 95%, intended to prolong battery life. Windows 8.1 still has bugs. Keep up with the updates. You get what you pay for. This is a basic machine at a low price, so keep expectations level with that and you will be happy.

Good laptop for the money, paid $249 for it, that is including shipping. Was looking to replace my wife's old laptop that just died and came across this one after Christmas. Had good reviews so took a shot at it. It's a very good value for the money. She's happy with it. We play a game called, Runescape. It runs it just fine, few other games lag free. Can't go wrong with this computer if you just need a basic computer nothing monstrous.

    Great basic laptop

First of all, I paid $199 for the Asus laptop, which is a great bargain. I only had two issues with it. One, I had to download VLC media player in order to watch DVDs. Not a big issue, but considering that the laptop comes with an optical drive, I assumed playing DVDs wouldn't have been a problem. Luckily, Downloading VLC Media Player was an easy enough fix. Second, other than the "trial" of MS Office 365, the only thing the Asus offers for anything near word processing is Word Pad. Overall, it's a great value, and for word processing you can always use Google Docs.

This is a really nice computer. You can't beat it for the money. It starts up quick loads programs quick and just does great all the way around. The only thing is learning windows 8 but it's not that bad once you figure it out. I bought it as a Christmas present for my wife and she loves it. I would definitely recommend this computer if you want quality at a great price.

I bought this so that I could take classes online, and it gets the job done! It's relatively lightweight, functional, and was a wonderful price. The only bummer is that it doesn't play DVDs. Good functioning laptop though.

This laptop is more than enough for our college student, and the price was fantastic. One of the few existing models out there that still comes with an optical drive installed, it was everything we wanted.

    Good Laptop Cheap Quality

I got this laptop as a gift. Its really nice for being under $300.. The only things I don' like is there is no external battery, and no way to upgrade ram or swap hard-drives without tearing into it. Also, while using the track-pad it sounds like it hollow and its very loud.. Other than that its a perfect little laptop. I would recommend to anyone who wants a decent laptop for a good price.

I just bought this last night because i needed a laptop for photo editing with my nikon d7000, It was probably the best $200 i have spent. it has an SD card reader and CD drive which does come in handy. Photoshop , and picasa 3 run like butter. I'm new to windows 8 but it's actually pretty easy getting used to. browsing and watching movies are smooth. screen resolution is good, everything is responsive. the laptop feels more durable than a macbook in my opinion. 5 stars.
