It was great for me until the hard drive crashed and it wasn't worth how much it was to replace.

    Great For The Price

Just bought this a few days ago. Its a great laptop "for the price" although is made with low quality materials. If buying, better not plan on beating on the keyboard all day long as I don't think it'll hold up. The entire surface flexes while typing. I also wouldn't be too harsh lifting the screen up as its not very firm. Make sure to lift SLOWLY from the center. If buying to surf the the web its fine. Although not built for serious work. Still....pleased with it....again...."due to the price paid".

    Great Laptop for the Price

I like this laptop a lot. The price point is great and it is a huge upgrade over my 7 year old Sony laptop. I only had it for a couple of days now, but my experience has been good so far. I only came across 2 issues with the laptop. My first issue is not really and issue, but centers around my personal preference. The battery life is not that long (with screen at 50% brightness and light web surfing) and only lasts like 3.5-4 hours on a charge. I wish it lasted longer on a charge. The other issue I came across was with the free upgrade to Windows 10. After running the Windows 10 upgrade, my trackpad no longer worked. To remedy this, I plugged in an external mouse to finish the installation and set up of my account in Windows 10. Once I was done with all that and signed into my account, Windows 10 automatically ran the trackpad update driver installation. After a quick reboot, my trackpad worked again. My suggestion for future buyers of this Asus laptop would be to use an external mouse during the windows 10 upgrade installation. I have been using Windows 10 for the past couple of days and I haven't experienced any other problems so far.

The computer worked for five months, after that the motherboard failed, I have been trying to get support from ASUS since two months ago, but they do not send me the documents to send it back... I would not reccomend this laptop to anybody. Buy another brand.

best lap top in the $400 price range

This laptop has many features that are found on higher end lap tops. Great processor, 1 TB of hard drive space, 6 gb ram, and a dvdrw, also has Bluetooth, and 2 usb 3.0 ports. and a vga port. The key board is great, it does have a bit of flex to it if you are the type that pounds hard when typing, but to me that is a positive. THIS IS NOT A CHEAPLY MADE LAP TOP PEOPLE! There is not much you can't use this for, unless perhaps you are an engineer for NASA. ASUS makes far better laptops than Dell, HP and toshiba....problem is most people not familiar with high tech only go for the brands that do heavy advertising....btw, dell and hp have components made by asus. cons: no backlit key board If you can buy this for $399.00 don't hesitate. Enjoy!

STOP. before you read any of those bad reviews im telling you this computer is just fine. i just bought mine from best buy, and all i had to do was update the computer from the control panel and everything is fine now. yes, it doesnt have the 5th gen intel i5, but my computer is just as fast if not faster sometimes than my girlfriends brand new mac. simple mistake on best buys part. Im still waiting on the windows 10 update, but lets face it, windows released a whole complete (not trial) version of an o.s. im willing to wait for it. plus i dont really mind windows 8.1

If you can live without all the bells and whistles you wont find another quality computer as fast and with as much space as this one. Had no problem upgrading it to windows 10. Only thing is, first time the DVD drive was used it was quite noisy but when the computer was put on a flat hard surface it was fine.

This computer is at great price point and may be great for students or someone who does not use a computer very often. The screen image was lower quality and a little grainy, which was not what I expected. I ended up returning the computer and purchased the Asus Q502LA, which was well worth the additional cost. I would highly recommend it over this model.

It is not 5th generation i5 processor

I order this laptop online yesterday after reading in description which says "5th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-5200U mobile processor". When I went to store to pickup, I saw in product box description that it is actually a 4th generation i5. I am not sure how best buy managed to get a very critical detail about laptop wrong. Store manager at best buy was very rude and did not even apologize for this mistake and was not at all helpful. Store manager didn't care whether customer had to go thru the whole process of purchase and then going to pick up item and then finding out in frustration that item is not what is advertised on their website and then returning. He just said "I can't do anything about it". When more and more people are now abandoning brick and mortar store and going with online store, at least best buy can try to survive by having better customer service. This is my last purchase at best buy.

Does not contain the advertised 5th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-5200U mobile processor 2.2 ghz. Instead contains 4th gen i5-4210u 1.7 ghz. Performance wise they should theoretically be close. In terms of buying a car, I guess it's like ordering the V6 and instead getting a turbo 4 cylinder. Either way you're still faster than a Honda, but still not driving a Corvette...

Purchased product based on salesperson recommendation. Two days later Microsoft edge couldn't reach the internet. contacted Microsoft windows 10 support. that was a huge mistake. After waiting 45 minutes for a real voice, I was then directed to another department and after an other 30 minutes reached a MICROSOFT support operator who I could barely understand. Asked for a direct number to call back and was given a number that turned out to be a doctors office. I then called asus support. They told me to contact store.. Called best buy tech support. Told me to bring to store tech support. Arranged an appointment. Tech tried to connect to internet...could not connect. told me it had a bad card. However, They could fix for $30. I said, I just got it !. Tech gave me the option of sending back to ASUS. I said forget it and returned unit for a replacement. Got second unit, set it all up, transferred all my information. Went on line and was not getting sound. called ASUS tech support. Tech support told me I had to reset computer and that all info / files I had put in prior would have to be re entered. Hung up. Debated whether to go back to store but was thinking about that $30 charge. I took it upon myself to go on line to asus site and download the sound card driver and reinstalled it. Finally got on my own. Two laptops and hours wasted. PS. This computer has no CAP on indicator so you have to figure out on your own whether you are in CAP mode. Lots of fun when entering passwords that require upper and lower cases. Also, regarding Edge...if you need to run ANY applications that require an extension or add on such as JAVA, edge is not for you. You need to run those in Explorer.

    Not what I expected

After seeing the positive reviews and reviewing the specs I was expecting a decent laptop for graphic design, unfortunately I was wrong. First off the brightness of the screen was weak. It looks like they placed a early 90s screen on a new laptop. The speakers sound really low despite having them set on MAX. They are built into the keyboard so I'm sure that has something to do with it. Sadly I missed my window of opportunity to return the laptop at Best Buy by 2 weeks so I'm stuck with it for now.

Maybe I just got a lemon

I was really disappointed in this computer. It seems a great value for the price, but I expected more of it. I tried about three times to install Windows 10, and got an error each time. I ran a Windows troubleshooter, and it seemed to fix two issues. Then tried to install Windows 10, and again got an error. Finally on about the sixth try, it successfully installed. Now the scrolling and zooming in/out functions on the trackpad don't work. Also got a 'bad pool caller' error and crash somewhere along the line when I was just browsing the internet. I will be returning it, I don't have the patience for so much trouble right out of the box. It's possible I just got a lemon, but I will not try my luck again with this model.
