Great laptop with a bad screen

Died after a year

If you buy this, hopefully yours lasts as long as it should. :( Rest in peace buddy.

slowest computer I have ever owned

I do not game, but do enjoy going to sites and having them load quickly. I get bored waiting for the sites to load. They take more than 2 minutes to load sometimes and the site itself will time out. I have done the updates and put my hp laptop next to it and my hp laptop is quick. I believe it is an AMD 6 and never has timed out getting to a site. Very unhappy with this product. It looks amazing but that is where it ends.

There's a possibility that there are background apps and Windows updates causing the unit to perform as it does. What we've observed with the Windows 10 operating system is that once the unit is not being used all background and installed apps including Windows updates will fire up. We would recommend that the user check for and install all updates. Multiple restarts are recommended to ensure all updates are fully installed. You can also attempt the steps within the faq below.

Great Laptop!

It can handle all the games I've played, and as well my projects with large programs/assets. Down side is that my screen broke after a year but that is mainly my cat's fault when he jumped on it. Lol It does burn my hand a bit with the hot air if i get too close on the side of my laptop. But other than that it is a lovely laptop. <3

Not good for gaming

I have had to update every driver and still can’t game. Memory issues every time we try to play. I am still in the process of getting everything figured out so he can play. I only have one game on the laptop and it can’t handle it. Very disappointing to spend this amount of money for a Christmas present to see the sad look on his face every time it don’t work.

Overall its a good laptop

My touchpad stops reading and hiccups way too much and it’s annoying when you try to get work done. Yes an external mouse solves the problem but I don't always have the space for a mouse. Very dissatisfied with this laptop and will be taking it back to bestbuy when i get back in town.

We're sorry to hear to hear that you're having an unfortunate experience with the touchpad. Please attempt these steps below in order to resolve your issue.
1. Right-Click the Windows logo (Bottom left of your screen).
2. Select Device Manager.
3. Select """"Mice and other pointing devices"" to expand the menu. (Normally has a small arrow to the left).
4. Right-Click ""HID compliant mouse"" and ""Uninstall Device""(NB. Do not select the checkbox that says delete the driver, ensure that it is not checked).
5. After the driver is uninstalled, please restart your computer.
If that doesn't work, please proceed to update the driver as well with the URL below and the steps to install.
1. After the download is completed go to where you saved the folder. (By default everything you download from the Internet is saved to the Downloads folder)
2. Right click on the folder and choose ''Extract All'' and then choose ''Extract'' again.
3. After all the contents have been extracted you may delete/disregard the folder with the zip icon.
4. Next, open the SETUP file, PNPINST64, pnputil.exe or Install Package (In most cases it is a setup.exe file)
5. Please choose to 'repair' or 'update' the existing installation (driver) if any one of those options do appear in the set up.
6 Finally, restart after the installation is completed.

Great computer battery life sucks

Battery life is terrible pretty much always needs to be plugged in and there is no way to replace the battery when it is finally shot

Needless to say I returned it today. The advertising is wrong, the model number lines up but the scar III, hero III and g "series" use the same model numbers. Scar III doesn't even have a 60hz option

Awful screen

Not Quite ASUS... More like BSUS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Before I get into this, let me inform you that I love ASUS quality. I have owned many of their laptops. I don't have it in my possession yet, however I know what I should be looking for with this brand. ASUS ROG is, and for many years, has been, my jam for on-the-go gaming. That being said, I ordered this during the black friday doorbuster when it was $899. That price is much more reasonable for this setup than its normal $1399 pricing. Its a new computer in their line-up (as of the time of this review) so it smells like best buy was trying to capitalize on the fact that it's an ASUS STRIX SCAR III and its black friday. Dubious, but there you have it. I smell a price decrease or discontinuation in the near future for this particular model. It is in fact a BUDGET ASUS STRIX; not entirely the real deal, but close enough if you are willing to overlook some of the particulars. If you're looking for a 144hz or even 120hz display, you wont find it here. Normal 60hz for this one (I will admit I was a little disappointed here). Neither will you find the new "Keystone" feature, among other features, I'm sure. It WILL, however, light up with RGB capability that you see with the rest of this ASUS line. Hardware-wise, it is thoroughly a solid, mid-level gaming rig. For its 1660 TI, its i7-9750H, 16gb-2666 ram and 512gb SSD, it is certainly a good deal at the $899 price point (the reason I purchased it). As I am a sale shopper and big on getting the most for my money, at $1399 I would most likely have passed it up, and not given it a second look. At $1399, you are better off looking at a RTX 2060, possibly a 2070 model elsewhere. Laptops with a comparable setup are selling for about $1100 this holiday season, but usually have a better display refresh rate... MUCH better... Pros: ASUS Quality, RGB capability, 17-inch display, 2nd 2.5" Drive expansion bay, Most features you would find on an ASUS STRIX SCAR III Cons: 60Hz Display, No Keystone, Some people say fans are loud, some people say it gets warm. I will update after I get a chance to play around with it. For now, I will say I WOULD recommend this product, but only under the condition it is bought during a major sale or as a clearance item.
