    Great $900 laptop

It does everything I want for the most part. I got this on sale for $900 on black friday, which I feel like was the best deal at that time. For full price, there are better options. Pros: It runs everything I play at a good frame rate ~100 Decent CPU that can overclock to ~4Ghz It comes with build in interfaces for overclocking the cpu, adjusting fan, monitoring computer gut stats, and rgb background. Screen is clear and crisp Cons: 512gb of memory won't get you too far Screen is 60hz, which is fine for me because I hooked it up to a 144hz, but may bother others No display port (I bought a usb-c to DP adapter for $15 that works fine)

It was an aesthetic that did not last...

I bought this laptop 5 years ago during Black Friday. I adored every minute of this laptop. Unfortunately. I now HATE this laptop. It is NOT worth the amount of money I spent for it to only get 2 years worth of play with it. I had the Sims 3 & 4, Warframe, WoW, Zoo Tycoon, Paletines, and several other heavy games housed on this laptop. It ran every game smoothly for 2 years until it didnt. It gets very hot fast. The fans are loud and noisy. The laptop itself is not durable. Mines did not last a longer than 2 freaking years. Then one random night. It completely shut off on me. long story short. Somehow it got super hot to where my motherboard got fried. So not only was i going to be charged $700 to replace and fix it... 3 years LATER had passed me by and i still had an obsolete and useless gaming pc that is 5 years old now. I did not bother fixing it. Ever. Because i feel like for what i paid for it. It should have never died within 2 years all due to overheating and of all things it could have fried, of course it would be the pricy motherboard. I am NOT pleased by that at all. Because it had no food or beverage damages so i never expected a pc i expected to have still working just fine in year 2025-- would actually turn out to be a poor choice/ bad investment. i really hate i bought it. I loved it. But i hate it. It does not hold up and It was super heavy too. But i got used to the weight so carrying it wasnt much of an issue. I ADORED that 17 inch screen. I havent come across another pc as of late with such a big screen. They are mostly 16 and below now. I would not recommend this laptop to anyone. I it were still around. But its been 5 years now. There are many on the market with updated software. This laptop would be pointless to have gotten fixed after i waited around like i had for so long.... it was the anger and disappointment of it all that had me procrastinating. for $700, i bought an entirely new laptop just a minute ago. one that is 32gb with 1tb. Exactly what i need for now. i hope this one works out. As a new model, it did not have many reviews but the few it had were positive at least... it was nostalgia that led me to my purchase history and i found this.... i could not resist. i needed to get what was held in about this product, off my chest. I loved it...but i hate it. It was not worth it.

What's good about this laptop? Well, it's plenty quick enough and the build is decent, but that's about where the value ends. What did they remove to give you this "Value", well... Plenty! You don't get a keystone socket, so you lose that security feature. It lacks any type of Bionetrix device like an IR Camera or fingerprint reader, and I haven't checked but I would bet that it lacks a TPM as well. Basically, any type of advanced security is completely absent from this device! The screen is also 60 Hz and I haven't tested it, but I would bet they didn't even give you a 100% sRGB screen here. But that's not the real issue with this laptop! The real issue is that I'm not sure who it was built for... If it had a 100% sRGB screen well then it would be a pretty cool laptop for basic art and photography (not perfect but decent). If it had a faster screen, it would be a good gaming laptop, even if it isn't the top of the line. If it had advanced security features, well that would be awesome for business, but it doesn't even have that! So, who is this laptop aimed at? I won't even go into how upset I am at the fact that this model with a 60 Hz screen doesn't exist according to ASUS website. Seriously, if you want it for art, then the MB Air / Pro might be a better fit. If you want it for gaming, the 15.6" Model with the keystone and 144Hz screen would be a better option. If you want it for business, then tons of laptops have more advanced security than this thing does. Ultimately, they put the bottom line over functionality here and I'm struggling seeing the value at $899, I can't even imagine why they would think this is worth $1400! Anyway, do yourself a favor and spend the extra $100 and buy a competitors laptop as this is no great deal!

They're trying to present this as a screaming deal, but essentially saying it's $1400 bucks usually is bogus. The screen is only 60 hz and I highly doubt a laptop with 60hz and these specs could go for $1400. Don't get me wrong, it'll still the job for some people. I always steer clear of these best buy exclusives that are released. People look up reviews on Youtube and websites thinking it's the same one. Typically you'll see this with 120hz, which if it was this would be a screaming deal. I recommend waiting for a deal on the Lenovo Legion Y740 with 16GB of Ram. That's a dope laptop that really packs a punch for your money.

The laptop is such a beautiful product. The case itself it comes in is very protective and appealing. The RGB keyboard and the RGB accent along the bottom of the laptop are a great touch. Having a programmable button for the fans is wonderful if you're doing some work or gaming, always keeping the hardware cool. Having the extra number pad is very useful, advancing this gaming laptop in the field. Overall, ASUS did a great job on the laptop, great performance for the price. I am very happy with my purchase.

Only bad part is 60hz laptop screen

Ive had it since 2019, " ASUS - 17.3" Gaming Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti - 512GB Solid State Drive" its great. Faster than my Desktop. I don't play top end games. I've played some Apex Legends, Escape from Tarkov, GTA 5, WoW, Diablo 2 R & 3. It does well. The only con is the laptop monitor itself maxes out at 60fps. You need to get an external monitor if you want 144hz - 240hz. Which is what I ordered a few days ago. However, there's only an HDMI port. I'm not a huge monitor expert, but I have read that DisplayPort > HDMI. There seems to be a USB C port on the back, so I will try a DP to USB C adapter when my new 280hz monitor gets here. And of course once video card prices go back to normal, I will just be upgrading my Desktop. Not paying $1500 for a $600 video card... but thats another story. Overall: Great laptop for the price.

This laptop looks beautiful it’s fast and best of all it’s pretty silent when I use it. This is my second laptop so far from asus and it works great. The only weird thing is that when I was using the GeForce app on the laptop this little black rectangle appeared at the bottom left of my screen, if anyone knows what this is please let me know. It seemed that I was able to click on it cause the little hand icon popped up as my curser but I was too sketched out by it. Besides that part it is overall amazing!

    Randomly died one day

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this laptop in December of 2019. As soon as I got it I was disappointed by the 60 hz display which is probably why it was only going for $899. I liked it at first but it was very loud and had bad thermals which I figured later on when I started playing triple A games. Build quality of the laptop was not great. My friend bought the same laptop in May of 2020 which died 6 months later due to a faulty motherboard. I thought I was in the clear because I've had no issues of it not powering on since I've had it. I spoke too soon because it died on September 2nd of this year. With it being an expensive repair and being way out of the warrant period, I have no choice but to bite my teeth and move on. The heat pipe also had signs of corrosion when I opened it up.

      Dear Valued Customer,

We certainly understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused if the laptop stop working suddenly.

All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, and are built to last, this is a random problem. It is normal for the laptop, with the same hardware configuration and regardless of the manufacturer, to generate more heat than normal while under heavy load especially during gaming, WINDOWS Update and antivirus scan. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full-throttle. Please ensure the air ventilations are free from obstructions in order to have an efficient air flow for better heat dissipation. While gaming, please ensure no resource hungry applications are running in the background, this will definitely spike the temperature. The heat or temperature does decreases or normalizes once system resource utilization goes down.

If you need further assistance with the product, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I would be more than happy to help. Or, you are most welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent at: http://bit.ly/AsusLiveChat.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

Bought it at the end of November 2019. The first problem arose after a few months of use: the screen had a thin vertical stripe. The issue was resolved when a new version of drivers was released. The second problem arose after two years of use: the HDMI connector for external monitor has bad internal contact (probably soldering failure), and forces me to push the cable up.
