Perfect laptop; everything I wanted
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did weeks of research before decided on an ASUS ROG laptop, and reviews were super helpful for me in making that decision, so hopefully my review can help somebody else out. The two main points I wanted to hit were 1. a cool&quiet laptop and 2. being able to play Skyrim on Ultra with 70+ mods. This machine (I call him Harold) does both of those things stupendously. My old laptop (a 2008-era Dell) would overheat just from watching Netflix for a couple hours; Harold takes hours of gaming like a champ. He doesn't get anywhere near uncomfortably hot on my lap, even when I'm wearing shorts, and he rests comfortably on top of a giant, messy pile of blankets. The loudest he's gotten was comparable to a happy kitten. Not to mention that my Skyrim has never looked better, and unchecked my framerate ranges anywhere from 90-200+ (until I learned you should cap it at 60, but that's another story and not Harold's fault at all). I can't attest to any new games, since I'm now officially Too Poor to Buy Any, but from the other reviews it seems like it handles those like a champ as well. As for build - the weight is more than I'm used to, as was the size (the screen is 17 inches, but the actual length is a couple inches more). The weight, again, is a bit heavier than I was used to, but better than some of the 10-14lb laptops I was looking at. Still rests on your lap nicely, though. The keyboard is great - took no time at all to get used to. I've never had a backlit keyboard, and I didn't think one would be a big deal, but I was totally wrong on that. I'm usually up late playing games and being able to find keys without a light on is a gift (the WASD keys have extra highlighting, which is nice). Keys are weighted nicely, feels sturdy and not too cheap, but not difficult to press in a panic. I love the screen on this thing. A matte screen was a must for me (glossy screens are just an easy way to get fingerprints and glare all over the place) and the one on Harold is lovely. At first I was worried about the trackpad - it was difficult to move your fingers across when I first brought him home. The more I used it, though, the smoother it became, and it was working fine within an hour or so. Harold came with an xSplit membership, as well as a hotkey to start recording/streaming. I haven't used it yet (apart from hitting it out of curiosity) but that might interest some people. If I had to find complaints, though. I'd have two. Windows 10 straight-up isn't the best; I definitely prefer Windows 7. The start menu takes just a little too long to open, and I'm gonna blame Cortana for that one. Still, it's better than Windows 8, so I can't take points off for that one. My other complaint would be the speakers; they're a bit quieter than I'd like. They're on the bottom, so if I have Harold on any blankets (or even a couch cushion) the sound becomes muted. Not an issue since I mostly use earbuds, anyways. the Realtek speaker something or other pops open a window whenever you plug in headphones asking you what you plugged in (headphones, mic, etc) but that's not too big of an issue either. All in all, if you're looking for a gaming laptop this is the best you'll get under 1500 - probably under 2000. Definitely worth the money and your buy.

I love this laptop.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have had a issue with the video stopping while streaming on HULU but other than that, it is a awesome laptop. I use it for AutoCAD and it runs it nicely, no issues on speed. I plan to max out the memory and add a SSD down the road but out of the box, it does all I need.

Great Laptop for the Specs
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For a laptop with a GTX965M (a card that isn't widely known) and a Skylake I7 this thing gets the job done for if you need a gaming laptop, and if you are also a Artist that does digital drawing the screen unlike past laptops has great color in it. Audio is great also with sonic sound studio.

More Than I Was Anticipating
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I knew from researching gaming laptops that this was going to be incredible. After using it for one month, I am impressed with its outstanding display, exceptional speakers, and overall performance. I have no problem with paying more for a well-built laptop that will last me a long time.

Good but.........
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good solid Lap top a little on the heavy side. Have a problem with " loading circle " flashing next to the mouse pointer even though nothing is being started. Other than that seems to be fine

Very Satisfied - Quiet & Nice Screen
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a little concerned about getting this based on some of the reviews, but I haven't had any hardware issues. I swapped out for an SSD card and put in a 2nd hard drive. Easy access to do so. I may add some memory, but so far I haven't felt the need.

Great hardware with one exception.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would recommend adding in a m.2 solid state drive for the os, the 5200 rpm hdd is the bottleneck on an otherwise great computer.

Love this laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I walked in wanting an alienware, but the alienware didn't have a DVD drive, but this is the next best thing, still has great specs, just doesn't have the additional solid state drive, but the DVD drive was more important.
