This is a gamer computer by far and I don't believe it was advertised as such. I will be returning it. For gamers, it would be an excellent computer if you can adjust to ASUS programs.

Overall like it. One odd thing is that the internet speeds are slow. Both up and down loading. I have an older HP laptop that is faster, soI I am surprised.

Purchased this devise a little over a month ago. The computer desktop randomly blacks out and become unresponsive. Have to hold down power to reset. I always have considered ASUS high quality pre built pc's great. Sad to say but I would not recommend this product.

Got my laptop yesterday. After starting it up, I installed antivirus and Steam. Then I watched Netflix for like an hour after which the laptop suddenly turned off. It won't turn back on.. Even when plugged in, none of the lights turn on......I read online that taking the battery might fix it but i just got the laptop like hours before it died and don't want to mess with it before i take it back to the store and see what's up...ridiculous.. Hope its nothing serious and they can get it resolved on site... Will update this review after I get back from the store later today..

Best Gaming Laptop for the $

I've tried several gaming laptops by MSI, Asus, and even Razer. For the price, this one beats them all. Huge 17" G-Sync screen. Thin (for a 17" monster). SSD for speed & HD for storage. Nice keyboard. Doesn't get too hot under even extreme load. And the price is awesome for the specs. This one's a keeper.

OK let me first off by saying after having this laptop for about a month its still great!
I would give it a 4 for an overall score.
First off after doing my homework and asking around a friend said you could "make" this rig for $1,000 (id say more for $1,100) you can do the math yourself if its worth it. (I said yes because of the financing(that I did go for and needed))
Bloatware minimal 4/5 stars. Fact! Great!
Rog system 5/5 stars. Im now a ROG fan for life for gaming (no I am not a ASUS ROG salesman). I would say for the one game I play as of now (DOTA) it does great, I would have no worries buying a new pc game and putting it on max settings.
The one beef i have with the laptop is its sound quality for movies. If two or more people are talking i feel like I am having to put my ear to the speakers to hear them talk. With that said if its an action scene I need to put it on or around 50% because its loud. That''s good because at work I also listen to a lot of music, and putting it at 75 is good (AC/DC can be heard 3 Doors Down on 100 %) I would have to give it 3/5 stars even with its 5 preset on board setting for volume. TBH my HP laptop from years ago with Beats Audio is better for movies with minimal tweaking for scenes.
The fact I can see the temperate of the CPU and GPU, fix volume along with Bass/Trouble in 1 button (along with others) on the 9 Keys is great 5/5 stars (should become the new standard)
The 17.3 inch monitor is great with gaming in general.
I did not key this in for the overall score but the 3 hr battery life is OK. Think about it for that price your are getting a "gaming machine" or a "work station" you cant have both, and the fact that I am working 12 hrs a day its plugged in. 3/5 stars, plug it in if you are using it for more than an hour.
The fact that if has a SSD its FANTASTIC! Reading online and other reviews SSD's are great and the start up time for the OS to internet is fantastic. with a total of 118 gbs on the SSD and roughly 990 gbs on the HDD is good. Just know and place files in the correct place and you will be fine (I have 80 gigs left on the SSD after a month of use, but I am using it as a pure gaming and I rotate year after year on my games) 5/5 stars
The power cord could have used a few more feet but i cant fault them because the power cord battery is bigger than a smartphone. Working in a small space i could have used those few extra feet. 3/5 stars
The fingerprints could have used a little loving because i feel that this many years into laptops you think they would have the technology to minimize the oils left on the keyboard and mouse. 4/5 stars (i can't justify 3 or 5 because its a fact of owning a laptop). It had no power over the final score because its a laptop
I do not like the fact you have to use the FN key to use the functions like volume up/down/mute (I prefer that in one button i can mute versus two). Also I don't like the "airplane" mode (could be because windows 10) just give me a button for internet on/off. My old HP had both these features and i give the nod to the HP. 3/5 stars
All-in-all the "bad" to "good" ratio is different to everyone but i would say its worth it and as a person who looked in this price range with a VR ready is great

First I got the MSI ge63vr it was really nice and quality but it lack the screen which this has a g-sync and yes it is worth it, other than that the MSI has really bad speakers. I normally use my headphones but I couldn`t handle it. So I change the laptop to this laptop in my local Bestbuy. They changed it very fast, in 5 minutes I was out of there with my new Asus GL702. What a change!!!! this is really nice. Sound is great and the screen makes all the difference. Go for this one it really is a great laptop.

Great platform

Exchanged this platform, as it did not have indicated items from website(bestbuy).
4637103 GL752VWDH74 1199.99- * with:
A search of the internet:https://www.asus.com/Notebooks/ROG-GL702VM/specifications/
Finds,
Hard Drives:
1TB 7200RPM SATA HDD
Solid State Drives:
128GB/256GB/512GB SATA3 SSD
Solid State Drives:
256GB PCIE Gen3X4 SSD :This Platform has 3 (three) drives.
Best Buy printout stated PCIe NVME drive and thunderbolt 3, it had neither.
Traded for a fair match (a shelf model with thunderbolt 3 and NVME ssd , that was a display and not for sale) , but a new unopen was in the back and said yes to thunderbolt 3 and a NVME drive. Had the box opened at the geeksquad desk. It had a lightning symbol at the port. Got home ... no NVME.I had trusted employees to be addressing those items that were of concern. BIG MISTAKE!!!
5580042 GL702VM-BHI 1349.99
Did not indicate thunderbolt 3 on the container (but appears to have lightning bolt next to a 'C' type port) and has not been tested.
Some internet searchs yeilded the GL702VM (ROG GL702VM-BHI7N09) as having 1 HDD, 1 SATA III and 1 NVME and others came back with 1 SATA and one HDD.
The carton Stated GL702V, GL702VM-BH and ROG GL702VM-BHI7N09 on the container.
Opening the box I find a platform, ROG GL702VM-BHI7N09 inside.
I was too excited to examine every single aspect of the box and you do not normally open the box, turn on platform and check for installed drives while in the store. Now I am stuck with this old school performer instead of a ASUS ROG, warp speed, (NVME) machine.
Remember to read carefully the container for those items you came to purchase, then open it, turn it on and check the device manager to see what drives and types of drives are installed. Also check for software that should be with it.
I can only hope that Asus has faster upgrades for what appears to be designed for upgrading.
It is however a great platform. Wish it was less costly, but hey! Great is usually more expensive.
Arog.

Good gaming laptop but worried about quality

I'll get straight down to it. Can this laptop play a graphically intensive game at high settings? The answer: mostly YES. I've tried Rise of the Tomb Raider, Fallout 4, Witcher 3, Street Fighter IV, Forza Horizon 3, Watch Dogs 2 and Doom at max settings at 1080p. With the exception of Forza Horizon 3 in above car view, they all played smoothly at 60 FPS. FH3 seems to also do 60 FPS but in this particular above car view there are little random slowdowns that I'm not sure is due to the graphics card, graphics driver, the slower 7200 RPM HDD or something else.
Besides gameplay, this laptop behaves how you would expect it to behave with its given components (Intel Core i7, 12 GB ram, etc). The speakers are okay for a 17" laptop but nothing special. Battery life is somewhere between 1.5 hours (gaming) and maybe up to 4 hours of light interner browsing.
My only problem is the backlit keyboard. The backlighting was broken out of the box. Upon searching Google you'll find that there are numerous problems with Asus backlit keyboards among various models some fixed with a driver update but others needing to be returned to the manufacturer.
Last observation: The outside surface of the laptop is prone to fingerprint smudges that are not easily wiped off. Very irritating.
All in all it's a decent laptop ar a decent price compared to the competition.
