Can't find anything wrong
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this laptop for about a couple of weeks. First the specs are outstanding. I've got about 85% of the SSD drive available and haven't touched other 2TB drive. I bought this for work and for video editing. Work requires that I create 200-300 page PDF documents. This computer has hasn't hiccupped once, while my old Dell (5 years) would hang or lag on the 200MB files. That same Dell would freez and become unresponsive when editing a 12 minute video, this machine cut my editing time down by at least 75%. I've only edited one 6 minute video so far, but again, where the Dell would hang or lag, this machine flew right through the process. Windows 10 still has compatablity problems with some of the programs I was accustomed to useing, but that's not ASUS' fault. If I had to think of a con or flaw, I would say that 15.6 inches is too big to be used as a tablet, especially with the keyboard folded behind the screen, I suggest sticking with your Ipad or Galaxy tablet. This can be used that way, but is awkward. One more con is fingerprints, between the case and the touch screen, this is a fingerprint magnet. I'm wiping the case down with a damp cloth at least every two days. I didn't think either of those rose to the level where I would remove a star from the rating. Overall I can't recommend this machine enough, you can't get these specs in a machine costing twice as much.

Best performance, best value 2-in-1. A few CONS.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Seems to be the best bang for your buck currently in terms of 2-in-1 laptop performance for the dollar. PROS: * Touchscreen. Windows 10 works well here as a tablet, but it's the same full, real OS. Awesome, I love it. * 512GB SSD AND 2TB HDD. storage far exceeds all other 2-in-1s * Nvidia 950M graphics. have tried Fallout 4 (low/medium settings) and Borderlands (high settings), Rocket League. Seem ok though while I have a massive Steam library I'm not the type of gamer that knows 120FPS from 119FPS. * 7th generation i7 dual core * pretty thin and light 15" * has decent amount of ports, USB, USB-C, HDMI, 3.5mm lol, etc, etc * battery seems decent/better than my past laptops. Right now says 75% 4h 45min remaining. CONS: * the touchpad (mouse) is frustrating. not good at interpreting right clicks, multitouch. mouse lags badly if there is 30% cpu usage! tweaking mouse settings helped a little (disable enhanced pointer precision, medium delay -> no delay) * get occasional "stutters" where it can't keep up. not just the mouse. i.e. playing games * their "fliplock" and auto rotate that is supposed to disable the keyboard and touchpad when in "tablet mode" doesn't work very well and is frustrating. Kind of got used to it. Turned on "remember the last setting". I tested this laptop in store before purchasing and was aware of most of my cons, but decided to go ahead with the purchase despite them because the value and performance was far better than all the competition. Compare the prices of other brands that have a 512GB SDD drive. This one beats them AND has a 2TB HDD. (and i7,16GB memory, Nvidia graphics card, etc, etc) Some are non-upgradable too (don't know if this one is or isn't) so when you quickly fill up your tiny 128GB/256GB SDD, then you're stuck and just have to buy a whole new computer. Within the first week I already have about 200GB of stuff on the SSD and 100GB on the HDD. And I'm talking about the "new" models that were just announced by the big guys, for pre-order, which to get anything close to comparable can cost > $3000. Do the math.

Amazing computer for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow, the people writing negative reviews for this sure are melodramatic. Don't be swayed by their hyperbole, prospective buyers! The truth is, you're not going to find a computer with these specs for the price (I paid $1149 on sale)--computers with smaller SSDs, no HDD, less RAM, and poorer-quality screens sell for around the same price. Yes, you may have to compromise a bit if you're comparing this with computers that cost a grand more, but come on. Let's be realistic. Most of the issues people are crying about are fixable by tweaking the settings, and the ones that aren't fixable really aren't worth another thousand bucks. Now that that's out of the way... Thanks to Best Buy's great return/exchange policy, this is the third 2-in-1 I tried, and I'm very happy with it. First was this one's baby sister--the q324ua. I liked it very much, but as a biostatistician who likes to have multiple windows visible at once, the 13-inch screen was just not sufficient, even with my portable external monitor attached. For my next choice, I tried the HP Envy x360. I used it for a half hour and took it right back--the lack of SSD was obvious in its slow speed. I considered the HP Spectre 360, but went with this as it was on sale and I had mostly liked the other Asus. I'm so glad I did. Its specs far outweigh the Spectre's (though I admit the spectre is sexier). It handles all the number crunching I need to do with ease and speed (I use SAS and R, and typically have 5-6 other programs running in addition to my stats software.) I actually really like the very slick trackpad, and the keyboard is very comfortable for me, as a woman with slender hands. It's great having a number pad as well, and the machine stays cool to the touch, which helps avoid sweaty wrists when typing. I've had no issues with tablet mode after ensuring my settings were as they should be. It's also not hard at all to change your settings so things you download or work you need to save goes to the HDD instead of the SSD. Battery life is better than I expected. I don't stream a lot of video as this is primarily a work computer, but I can easily run a virtual machine or two, my stats software, a browser with several tabs, open and close countless spreadsheets and .pdfs, AND keep my screen brightness at 50% and get a good 5 hours out of this. Only downside is the fingerprint issue, but I knew that going into it. Highly recommended if you need a real workhorse of a laptop but still want a relatively sleek profile and the option to use it as a tablet. Just get a couple cleaning cloths and be ready to change some of the factory settings and you're good to go!

Its a Winner!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using the PC for about 24 hours now. It is great!!! i got it on sale for $1099.00 Can I say for the specs and the price best laptop ever !!!! I have a 300 Mb *20 but on my old laptop my speed tests would only get 1/2 of the download. now I am getting above that. The transfer of data from my backup hard drive was extremely fast. The boot up was quick. fastest of any previous laptops I have owned. I was a little disappointed when I realized the speaker was on the bottom of the PC. but it plays surprisingly sharp and clear the added extra baby sub is a plus. Touchscreen and mouse are responsive and work smoothly. One nit picky thing, I find the back lit keyboard is not as brightly lit as my previous PC. Still head and shoulders above any of my previous PCs if I could give this 10 stars I would

Fantastic laptop for the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife decided it was time for me to replace my old laptop - it was, after all, four years old and on its last legs. I'm a gamer at heart, but I'm also a writer, software developer and general computer enthusiast. The old laptop, a Lenovo Ideapad P500, was decent for its time, but I needed something with a little more punch. The features I was looking for in a new computer were: * At least an i5, preferrably an i7 * at least 8gb RAM, preferrably 16gb * SSD drive, preferred data drive of 1TB or higher. * Touch screen, although this wasn't required. * Dedicated video card, to feed my gamer side. * 15" screen. 17" screens are just too big for laptops, but that's just me. That said, I came across this beauty and was immediately impressed. Not only did it meet and, indeed, surpass all my requirements, but it did so at a price that didn't break the bank. I got it home, spent the usual couple of days getting it just how I wanted it. Steam installed, games downloaded, productivity software installed, music downloaded, Dropbox ready to go and BackBlaze merrily backing up in the background. (If you don't use Backblaze, I highly recommend it - best online backup around!) I started giving it the official usage tests - and was not disappointed! I'm not a hardcore gamer (anymore), but I do play more modern games. Although there are some games I wasn't able to run at max graphics, for the most part I was able to play the games I enjoy at least at medium to high graphics settings with at least 60fps. I then tried doing what is I do professionally - software development. We coders spend a lot of time typing. The keyboard was responsive, but perhaps a big spongy. the fact that it is backlit is a nice feature. It's full size, albeit a tad tight. One of the features I particularly enjoyed was the the special functions on the function keys have to be activated. As a developer this is important - I'm hitting the functions keys constantly to perform tasks. Having to hold down another key to make it happen would have been an inconvenience I wouldn't be prepared to deal with. Compiling code was very quick, thanks to the SSD and the i7 processor. I then tried the 2-in-1 feature, where you can make the computer a tablet. This was my first computer I'd had that allowed this, and was eager to see how it worked out. Turns out, it's one of those features where you wonder how you lived without it once you experience it. I'm able to set my laptop up to watch video in bed easily. I'm able to present stuff to people without needing the keyboard. Windows 10 is particularly suited to touchscreen environments, so everything I needed to do I could do without a physical keyboard. Nice! I then unplugged my laptop to see how long the battery would last. I got about 5 and a half hours - not bad, considering the power involved. , and plenty for my typical usage. The screen was wonderful. The 4k resolution is very nice; however, I've noticed that many of the applications and games I run aren't expecting that high resolution. The graphics are fine, but dialog boxes and other windows that pop up are too small to read. That's not the fault of the laptop, just poor program design. All in all, this is a wonderful system. No issues, lots of power, lots of features.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wish I had never purchased my Asus laptop. This is the worst piece of technology I have ever owned. The only features I like are good graphics, the ability to switch to tablet and the touch screen, but you can get all of that with many other brands. These are just some of the incredibly frustrating issues I have experienced: When typing, the cursor will just randomly bounce to another location in the text so I am suddenly typing in the middle of a sentence a paragraph up for no reason. This especially happens when I dare to try to rest my wrists on the machine while typing, even if I am no where near resting on the touch pad. I often have to click the left or right buttons 10 times before it will select anything. If I close the laptop and leave it for a few hours, the machine will often just shut down randomly, even though I changed all the sleep and update settings to prevent this. It will also suddenly change modes to something strange that does not let me minimize the browser and I cannot get out of it without shutting down. Clicking back or closing the browser does not help, it just reopens in the same mode unless I restart. The HDMI ports are loose and my cords do not stay in securely, so if I move the laptop even a few inches while the cord is attached, it cuts out and back in, interrupting what I am streaming to my TV. There are probably 100 other things I hate about my laptop that I can't think of right now. Bottom line is I wish I had returned it while I still could and I will never buy another Asus product again.

Great Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i came back to the realm of Windows after my Macbook died. I have a Windows desktop I use for intensive use (gaming, video editing, photo editing etc) but I wanted a strong laptop for side work if I can't get to my desktop right away. I spent a long time looking up forums and reviews on laptops filmmakers recommend. ASUS was a common brand, so I looked between them and Dell. Eventually I chose this laptop and I'm satisfied with the computer overall. There are a few nitpicky design flaws on it that I didn't think were going to be an issue until I was actually using the laptop. I didn't buy it for the two-in-one portion of it, but I noodled with it once or twice and the experience was meh for me. If I wanted a tablet, I would have gotten a tablet. The pros: Keyboard is spaced perfectly for my hands. Keys are quiet when typing and the response to pressing the keys is comfortable and am happy with it. I can type for hours and not feel fatigued or feel like I'm losing my place on the keyboard. I love having the number pad on the side as it makes typing numbers more of a breeze for me. Battery lasts a long time when working on things or running multiple applications. It charges fast when I do plug it in When running intense applications, the fans are noticeable sound wise, but the computer doesn't sound like it's about to take off to space. When I first started using the laptop, I could really hear the fans, but they seemed to quiet down after their "break-in" period. Touch screen is responsive when I do use it. Cons: The volume control button is right next to the power button. I have accidentally put the computer to sleep a number of times (because I sometimes don't want to use the function + fkeys for volume control). They also don't give a satisfying click or press when you press down on them, so I have to watch the volume control to make sure I'm actually lowering/raising volume when using that button. The trackpad mouse is finicky and sometimes it'll lag or lose your finger while you're scrolling or moving about. I haven't gotten a USB mouse for it yet, but it's on my "to-buy" list. I've changed the sensitivity and that seems to have helped a little bit, but it hasn't gone away completely. I've also accidentally created new windows when clicking on tabs when using the internet. These problems will go away once I buy a mouse, but until then, that's what I get. Overall I enjoy this laptop and don't have any regrets purchasing it.

great laptop terrible tablet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a laptop this unit works great. NVIDIA video card, I7 processor, Great RAM. over 2Gigs of hard drive space . the touchpad is mediocre and take a lot of tweaking to be just OK. the tablet mode just stinks and is useless. the Keyboard over rides it 90% of the time and cant do anything with it if you dont lay it totally flat on a surface.. I hope ASUS fixes the problem eventually .. other than that I can not find another laptop that that meets the same specs even if it was not field tested at all by R&D before selling it obviously

A power hungry beast!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great specs made me jump to this laptop. I got this for a steal on black Friday for $300 off. I have been using it now for only two days. I have pros and cons . Pros: The 4K screen is bright crisp and clear. Backlighted keyboard is very nice. The build quality is there. The storage and speed are great! Ok now the cons: The weight is not something personally I want to travel with daily. The speaker placement! WHY on the bottom. It sounds decent uncovered but really muffed most of the time! Touchpad issues, it randomly stops working then works. Random Realtek audio popus very often. Wifi signal drop off issue random cuff off of connection. Finally the battery!! Understandable so this is a beast spec wise. But as a student and somebody who travels throughout the week, this is not good at all. If I am lucky doing web surfing I get 3 hours and 30 minutes. This is the deal breaker! Summary if you need a desktop replacement this would be great. If you fit the traveling student/ professional look elsewhere.

Reliable laptop for a mix of gaming and college
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this to replace my old bulky HP laptop and it was the best choice I have ever made. This laptop is reliable, it's fast, and it's lightweight! And it can also support all the games I want to play. Albeit not as good as dedicated gaming laptops for the heavier games, but more than enough to suffice my needs. It hasn't slowed down one bit since I bought it either

all black instead of chocolate brown aluminum
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.online here, it says "chocolate black aluminum hairline with dark copper." now, it provides pictures here of just an all black laptop which I got but I was really looking forward to something different color wise other than black laptop after black laptop I've had. when I saw it in person we checked the SKU and it all matched except for the color and description. I know this is quite nitpicky but I am only talking about the color and how misleading the title is for this item. Best Buy needs to fix this to avoid further confusion. so in summary laptop is great, the color does not match the description.

This thing is a beast, but a well appointed beast!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've always built my own desktops and when my last one started giving me random BSODs after 7 years I decided to go with a laptop and dock rather than a desktop this time around. I looked at a lot of laptops and 2 in 1s, but none of them had everything I wanted all at once. It seemed like if they had one thing they didn't have another and it took a lot of research to settle on this ASUS. It's not the sexiest thing out there and it's heavy as lead, but I don't think I'll even notice that I'm not running a desktop computer. You probably won't be using this in tablet mode much due to the weight, but the fact that you can is nice. Pros - Full size HDMI port so you don't have to get a dongle/adapter if you aren't using Thunderbolt to attach. Full size card reader (a lot I saw have just a MicroSD reader or none at all) Number pad to right of keyboard. Great for spreadsheets! Volume Rocker on side. Easy to turn volume up and down, but it works backwards to most I've had like this. Down is up and up is down! This may be adjustable but I haven't looked Touch Pad is responsive but not so touchy it's hard to deal with. Separation of left and right click is easy to feel and separate. 2 in 1 hinge so you can tent it and watch videos. You can also flip it flat, but unless you are sitting at a table it probably isn't really tablet usable due to the weight. Absolutely gorgeous 4K display. Best display I've ever seen. Almost perfect color balance right out of the box. Easy on the eyes. Cons - Heavy. VERY heavy. Seriously this thing is like a ton of lead if you are used to a smaller, less robust laptop. Do not hand it to someone without warning them or let little kids try to move it around. It will get dropped. (see next item about the slick case) Case is a slick fingerprint magnet. You'll want egrips or similar Seriously. Get something to help you grip this thing or you will drop it Volume Rocker is really close to the power button so I end up turning it off by accident a lot. Bottom is also slick. If you use your laptop in bed propped up on your knees to type with the display straight up like me you'll want something grippy to keep it from sliding all over the place. The second HHD (not the main drive which is PCIe) is only 5400 rpm. I will probably replace that with a 7200 rpm drive as soon as the warranty is over. I'm not sure why anyone still makes a 5400 rpm drive, especially to pair with an SSD? Regardless of the Cons, I love this thing and I would buy it again. I don't have to worry about storing stuff on the cloud and needed to be near a wireless signal to get to it. I can just fill the HHD up with stuff and not have to worry about getting to my content. It's probably not everyone's easy to carry cup of tea, but for a desktop replacement or "near gaming" rig it is nice.

Great value powerhouse
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked this laptop up during a black friday sale and man this was a great decision. The CPU, GPU, and RAM are everything I could need and more at least for the time being. Not to mention a 4K screen and 2.5tb of storage to boot I'm trying to think of a downside and I honestly can't come up with one right now. It's a little bit on the heavier side I suppose, at least compared to laptops I've had in the past, but I wouldn't call it a heavy laptop at all. I've personally never used the tablet functionality on it, but I'd be hard pressed calling that a true downside. Its price point certainly makes it a bit of an investment for most, but provided you can use the power this laptop brings to the table, it will always be worth it.

Great Laptop for college students!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this laptop for over a month now and it still runs smoothly. I play a few modern games on medium graphics and the laptop can handle it fine. When the laptop is under a heavy workload like a game, the fan will kick in, other than that I haven't noticed it that much. The battery lasts for quite a while considering it being a 4k screen. With the right power settings, I am at about 50% after 4 hours. As a student, keyboard works fine, as far as the touch pad goes, I do not use it to often as I do have a mouse, but it can be hard to control sometimes. Overall a great laptop. Would happily buy it again.

An excellent laptop!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop won't disappoint very many people. It is easy to set up, downloads are super fast. Visual 4K images are crisp, clear and so detailed, it's like viewing an OLED tv. I'm very impressed with the rapid startup, especially when using facial recognition. Although it cost more than I initially intended to spend, I'm so glad I purchased it. It's a great laptop considering all the specs it contains.

Loved it except....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I Purchased this laptop after having a Dell Latitude for over 5 years. I loved the laptop. The speed, sleek design, size, performance, etc etc. However one thing kept bothering me and it took a while to figure out. It was the yellowish tint on the screen and the brightness. I contacted customer support and asked about the NIT rating and they said they didn't have it which was odd. I will give them credit though, they were extremely responsive. But this issue kept bothering me so I went in the store and compared the floor model screen to the others and it also had the yellowish tint and it was dim. There is a software plugin called splendid or something similar but it didn't help. I ultimately returned the laptop back to Best Buy. When I returned it within the 14 days I got a lot of attitude from the store clerk which I did not like but I shook it off. However when I turned and walked away I hear him throw the laptop in bin. It was loud enough for me to take notice after being about 30 feet away. So in conclusion the laptop itself was fantastic except for the screen and the store clerk had attitude.

Good when I got it but poor by todays standards.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TL;DR Good enough for bare minimum. I recommend getting something else with 4 core processors and a better graphics card. Unless you know you'll need 4k display for your laptop, save a few bucks and get a lower resolution, else get a different laptop. Got this PC back in 2016 for college. Still runs and was an improvement from the outdated office tower, however it shows its age regularly these days. When I first got it, it was my first "gaming capable" computer. I was able to run Overwatch on release and get around 40 fps on 1080p low (a marked improvement over everything I have played before). I had a problem with the screen but it was replaced for free because it was under warrenty. As time went on I started noticing its short comings. It's 4K screen is ok for moving watching but the 950M graphics card struggled at gaming. Image using a Lamborghini as a flintstone mobile. I changed my resolution for the computer in total and noticed better stability playing games rather than just changing game resolution. It's 2-core 4 thread CPU can run games, but starts to struggle if you have other things running in the background such as spotify, discord, or skype. For CAD work, it's able to model parts and manipulate small assemblies, but I would not trust it with simulations. For build quality, its sturdy with comfortable keys, even when switching between it and a mechanical keyboard. The 10 key layout is extremely helpful when working in excel. I did have one of the keys become defaced over time. however it still works and is part of the home row so it probably just had excessive use. The mouse pad is responsive. The touch screen is good enough for someone who just wants to poke at what they want, but the hardware limits it from being a good "tablet". The IO is predominantly on the right side causing it to get in the way of my mouse often. The old USB 2.0 ports are a little outdated but it does have 1 USB 3.0 port. I use that for a USB to ethernet adapter for faster and more reliable gaming. Its speakers are pretty weak and I rarely use the included subwoofer due to the inconvenience of carrying it around. The metal chassis is sturdy and can have stickers applied to it. In conclusion, this PC is good for those who wants some power on the go however don't mind being tethered to an outlet over extended use. If you are looking at this for a college student, I would recommend looking elsewhere. I would recommend a 1080p or 1440p (2k) display, a 4 or 6 core processor, and a better graphics card (4GB of VRAM).

Not bad but not worth the price.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're looking for a strong 2 in 1 and big amount of storage, here you go. But it comes down to the graphics card, it's only a mid-high level chip. For the price , it's not worth it. You can find the same graphics in a much cheaper laptop. Maybe not with the same amount of storage but honestly, it's a bit overkill in my opinion. It all comes down to what you're looking for. Also, the fan sounds like a jet engine, has a quiet whistle, drove me a bit crazy, I don't think my dog liked it either. All and all, it's overpriced for the level of graphics card. It struggles at max settings. It made want to just go back to my intel HD 520 laptop. Not worth the price.
