Spec good and does what I want but switching to tablet mode is useless. The key board stays live so any depressing of keys whilst holding or resting on legs is instantly registered with commands or typing apparent.

i was skeptical at first paying this much for a laptop but its definitely an upgrade. screen is gorgeous. battery life is meh. you get 4 hours of use. but its fast AF like photoshop opens on my old laptop in 2 mins this laptop more like 7 seconds. lightweight, SSD is a plus, definitely future proof.

This review is on the Q534UX-BBI7T16 model. At first, I had purchased the same basic model, except it only had the 2TB hardrive and a bit less memory. I was not too happy with the speed of that system, even comparing it to my 6 year old high end Vaio (first gen i7), which I'd put an SSD in. So decided to try this model instead.
I've been using it for 3 weeks or so now, and I'm very happy with the speed. It's faster than my old system, which is a minimum requirement to keeping it, of course. The 4k display is just stunning when viewing high resolution pictures and videos. I like having 2 drives in the machine and doubt I'll ever run out of space with a total of 2.5TB. Keyboard is different, as it's placed closer to the screen than I'm used to, so I have to reach a bit more for keys. But that's just a getting used to it thing. I like the feel of it, though. The keyboard back light is nice to have, but I wish it had a sensor and switched on automatically like my old Vaio.
I use a lot of DVD's, so I do miss having the built in DVD/BluRay burner my Vaio came with, but using an external drive is not a show stopper. But very few high end systems have optical drives these days. And I do like the lightness and thinness that deleting that brings to the table.
The price on this system is what really makes it hard to beat. It was on sale, plus I got a student discount. So total was just over $1100. Anything else that can match the specs is in the $1600+ range. My wife's laptop is an Asus and we've had it for 2+ years now. Solid machine that has given us no issues, so I'm hopeful this one will treat us as well.
I did have to contact Asus customer support for some minor questions, and was satisfied with the experience.

The specifications alone were enough to take a serious look at this computer. The graphics are outstanding as are the speed and storage included. This is a very fast and efficient laptop with 16 GB of RAM, dedicated graphics, a very fast SSD and a huge physical drive. The capacity is outstanding. I look forward to using this for years to come.

It was not user friendly and some of the touch screens did not work and I had to keep flipping it back to a laptop to work. It did have a nice safety feature and if I was not looking for more use of the touch screen I would have kept it. However I did end up returning it after a week.

4K Screen was great but not all programs are set up to work on 4K screen so for example my AutoCad was not running properly on this screen and every single writing was super duper tiny (it wasn't the settings) AutoCad, and even Asus wasn't able to solve the problem. The Program was not set to work on 4K screen.

GREAT Laptop

I purchased this laptop 7/9/16. It is an excellent value when you compare all of the features it has for the terrific price. I had been searching for about 9 months for a replacement laptop for my ailing HP. I found that it was very easy to find myself up in the $2K range when looking for a laptop with the features that I wanted and one that would last me at least 3 years. I wanted quality components + construction, a good motherboard with lots of features combined with an affordable price point. This seemed like an easy prospect to find, but sadly not... There were a lot of cheap laptops available, but the trade off was 4-8GB memory or a slow processor, etc. There were many mid-range laptops also, but again, I found there were serious trade offs too. There were many laptops selling for over $1,500, but those were out of my budget. I read review after review for the laptops I was considering, but most reviews said that there were serious flaws or something wrong with the laptop discovered after purchase so that it needed to be returned. There were many quality issues with most of the major manufacturers- so much so that I was becoming very frustrated in my search. I was concerned about the ASUS brand after reading other negative reviews about quality control issues. ASUS makes excellent motherboards and is considered to be a good manufacturer. Recently new laptop reviews have come out placing ASUS and Dell among the top of the laptop manufacturers again. I decided to consider this brand as well as DELL. I loved the DELL XPS 15 - but it was too expensive. I searched further. I again read unfavorable reviews on various laptop offerings that I was considering from both Dell and ASUS and I was getting quite disappointed. Then I stumbled upon this computer at Best Buy. It had excellent reviews and exceptional features. You won't find it listed on ASUS's store, nor on other vendor's sites. It appears to have been manufactured specifically to be sold by Best Buy. It has everything that I have been wanting included - no need for me to have to spend extra money to upgrade its features. Let me tell you about this ASUS computer:
It is FAST FAST FAST! It has a 512G fast SSD with the OS installed so it boots almost instantly. It comes with a 2 TB hard drive to store all of your data included. The WiFi connection is great/ quick. It connects wirelessly only as it does not have an ethernet port. It has fast 16G DDR4 memory (2 slots) but it is not expandable beyond 16G (max). The only downside I found is that the sound is mediocre. ASUS has added an external subwoofer to help, but I am not impressed. I use an external wired/bluetooth JBL speaker (set to "speakers") and I can get great sound from this machine. So the sound issue is not a deal breaker if you choose to use an external speaker. It has a beautiful 4K touchscreen -the screen is clear/crisp and responsive. Very glossy, but fine for use indoors. I have not tried it outside. I would have preferred a matte screen. It does have a camera included (not a great one). It has only 3 USB 3.0 ports, not the 4 as listed on the specs (not a deal breaker). It has a great sensitive/responsive touchpad, much better than those I have tried on other machines. I do prefer to use a mouse so I installed a Bluetooth HP mouse - works great! It does not have a DVD burner, so you will need to buy an external one. It is a 2/1 so it does convert into a rather large tablet - great option but a bit heavy (5 lbs) if you plan to use it as a tablet. If your main reason to buy this is for use as a tablet, then I think a smaller lighter computer would be a better option. As a laptop it is not too heavy to be easily picked up and carried with you. It is not too thick nor too thin to be "flexible". It has a beautiful chocolate brown/black color scheme which is easy on your eyes. The finish is shiny and it does seem to be a fingerprint magnet, but this is no big issue. The keyboard is very easy to type on. The keys are black with orange-colored back lighting which is not overbearing so you can see to type in low light. The laptop appears to be very well constructed and the 2 copper-colored hinges are very sturdy. I highly recommend this laptop. Besides being beautiful, the laptop is a great buy for all of the features it has. I love it!

This computer should be amazing... you'd think with the solid state drive and the i7 processor and the 16GB ram and everything but surprisingly, the one program I bought this computer for doesn't work on this computer. I have no idea why; I even took it to geek squad and we couldn't figure out why the program wasn't working. I assume and hope it's because the program is old or needs some adjustments because I'd like to have faith in this computer. I'm usually a Mac guy but this was much cheaper than a mac especially with the hard drive and ssd and i7 and ram and graphics card. Everything was/is state of the art on this computer and for the most part it was worth it.
I had to exchange the first one because the speakers didn't work and now this one has no other problems. I'm sure there's a glitch in the software. I'm getting used to windows again but I sure miss Mac.

Best Laptop on the Market

There is no laptop on the market close to this price point that is even comparable. Sure you can go get laptops with kind of similar specs for around the same price but you'd get a bad plastic body, glitch software and poor battery life. Not this one, this is the laptop to get, it is actually marketed as the Zenbook Flip abroad if your into having the top name branding. Once you close/disable some of the background programs, turn off the Bluetooth and lower the screen brightness the battery will get you over seven hours of normal use which is more than sufficient. If you are not computer savvy don't worry about it you'll still get around 4.5 hours.
4k screen is great, I put a matte screen protector on mine because of preference. Touch screen works great with screen protector on or off.
Solid build quality and runs very cool. Haven't got the chance to do extreme gaming yet but all the games I've played have run on high settings well. No reason to spend hundreds of dollars more on a laptop with a 960 unless you're an intense gamer in which case you should be looking at a 970 or 980 anyways. 950 with DDR5 will play Battle Front, Fallout 4 etc very well.
Quick and snappy, nice to have a thunderbolt port so can attach external graphics solutions for when VR gaming becomes big . Also nice to have so much space with the two hard drives.

Great quality for price!

I was looking to downgrade from my 17" Dell. I was originally interested in getting the Surface Pro 4. When I got to Best Buy and told the sales associate what I was looking for, and told him how I would be using it (I am an engineering technology student, so ability to run complex programs is important) he immediately showed me the Asus Q534UX. I was in shock when I saw the specs for this computer. Then, I was in even more shock at the price. This computer blows the surface pro out of the water, and I even saved money, after adding the additional costs for a keyboard, input dock, etc. for the surface pro.
After a few days of having the computer, the purchase was well worth it! The processing speed is incredible, the display screen is clear and very impressive, the touch screen is just a great added feature for me, and all the ability to do gaming is also a huge plus that I was not expecting to be able to get walking into the store.
In other reviews, I've seen that the speakers/sound has been a problem, since the speakers are on the bottom of the computer. Personally, I have had no problems with it. The sound has been decent for me, and have not even had to pull out the added speaker (which was a cool addition nontheless).
Asus has really sold me on coming back to them in the future. The quality is something many of the "name brand" suppliers have gone away from. I just hope Asus continues to manufacture their own parts, and keep the price at a reasonable level.
I would recommend this computer to anyone who would listen!

No seriously; compared to the competition, this machine is worth 5 stars (4.9 if you wanna be realistic). You've already got constructive pros and cons written here, so I will just delve into the tiny text and the speaker. One you adjust the text on display settings, it's not a bother. Yes the speakers on the bottom are a bit inconvenient, but not a deal breaker when you use the subwoofer. I'm not sure about the design reasons for this. Otherwise, if you order an anti-glare screen protector off say Amazon, that takes care of that minor problem. Otherwise the slight glare doesn't bother me because I will not be using it outside much. But again, honestly, I used weeks looking through other similar laptops the same price; this one b****slaps all of them when it comes to battery life and performance. I was looking for a long term laptop, and I found this one.
