Great Laptop, but heat and screen...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hey guys, so first off let me start by saying I love this laptop. I've had it for 3-4 months now and I am so happy that I decided to treat myself and grab this. I upgraded from a 8-10 year old lap top that was heavy and had incredibly thick bezels. This computer felt like a dream come true, the graphics card was great and the crispness of the picture is amazing and the speed is something i have never experienced with a laptop. With all that, there came some issues. 1. The bottom can get very hot. I ended up purchasing a cooling pad off Amazon because I like to lay in bed on it or have it on my lap mostly...It got way too hot. I am not a very big gamer, but I do play the sims and when running 3 and 4 this laptop got hot. Even when I was just watching Youtube videos, it would randomly get hot and sometimes stay that way with the fans whirring. I found out the reason for this, is that the fans are very small and the outlet for the heat is in the most inconvenient place (at the top on the bottom of the laptop where most people perch their laptops on their laps). 2. The fans get kinda loud...Not in the traditional sense, but there is a sort of whistling noise when they get in gear which wasn't that annoying to me as I tend to ignore it, but i could see how for some this would drive them crazy..,It is also a constant sound when the fans are going. SIDE NOTES: - When charging the laptop gets even hotter and the fan noise becomes a little bit louder as well. -The track pad does this weird thing where it kinda goes wonky and doesn't follow the movement of your finger(s) and gets kinda laggy. It happens a lot more than it should, but not enough for me to get upset about it. I also use a separate mouse 99% of the time so this also does not bother me much. -Wish it has a Ethernet port, but the internet connects very fast and it can connect to 5G as well as standard internet. 3. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM THAT I HAVE WITH THIS MACHINE IS THE BACK LIGHT BURN IN. Only a couple days after I got this (I was so excited because I have never had a touch screen or 4K screen before), I noticed a little white spot on the top of my screen. I knew that there would probably be some spots here and there because it is a 4K screen. Now I can say after about or just over 3 or 4 months of having this laptop, the burn in is in multiple small spots under the top bezel and 2 fairly large half circles on both sides of the screen going to the bottom (pictured). So for my final thoughts on this laptop, is that it is great and i love the design. It feels very sturdy and heavy, but not heavy to the point where it isn't portable (it is incredibly portable and thin). The graphics and sharpness of the picture and color are awesome and the size of the screen is great. The screen burn in and heat distribution was a let down and kinda so was the size of the SSD space (but that is a personal opinion), but the 2 TB of HDD is cool. I am still on the fence on if i want to take this laptop back (I got a warranty because I was afraid of something like this happening with the screen) because I love it so much, but I am so unsure of the screen bleeding and the heat distribution problem (which isn't bad at all with a cooling pad when gaming). I feel like for as much as I paid for this and the time we are living in, this shouldn't be as big of a problem...or at least not as big as it is since this is still a fairly new laptop. Whether you would buy it or not is up to you because some of the things that bothered me might not bother you. I don't really regret making this purchase...but I would have liked to have known these types of things before I dropped the money on it. I like it, I really do. At the time there were only 2 reviews on this and they were both positive, so maybe I am having some issues that others may not have. I hope this helped someone who was thinking about getting this laptop and if anyone has any advice on the screen bleeding situation, please let me know. Thanks y'all and have a great day/night!

Its the asus q535ud plus 1 its a 536
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So this has a 15" screen still 4k but is 10% smaller than the Q535ud which I owned for a day but it had burn in , yes all laptops that say ips which means in plane switching means they are both "led and LCD meaning the liquid crystals can burn in . . I suppose having to return the q535 gave me a chance to see this on asus's website then i copy and pasted the # and it was avaliable in simi valley not T.O though , .The laptop has a much better processor still 1.8 but goes to 4.6 opposed to 4GHZ it called a wiskey lake processor i7 intell , same 256gb ssd and 2tb 5400 but i will swap that out for nvme 500gb or just 1tb and remove the 2tb spinning drive to keep it even cooler . This runs about 10 degreese cooler than the 535ud as well and is made of metal not plastic . All around its just better also they added page up pg down , end and home on the function keys which were not on the 535 . Just the little things you know . The keyboard still is configured slightly off but you get use to it quickly , I have only had it 1 day . You get the backlit key board , windows ink , windows hello ir camera and a 90% screen to body ratio opposed to the 73 on the 535 so i recemend it they are not even out yet on display . I just love Asus so much I bought it as it was a jump up from the q535 and orriginally the 535 was only 1399 this new day 1 was 1450 and i got a nice discound from the last disaster laptop , its nice being an elite member .

Complete workhorse
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pretty good to be honest, had this since November. Never had an issue with the battery or the track pad since that is the most talked about here. Runs halo reach without a problem along with my college work. Really good, glad i picked it up for $900 instead of $1,500.

Great laptop/tablet with minor limits
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Only had it about 2 weeks and really liking it. Things to note: there's a Caps Lock light on the key, but no light on the Num Lock key or popup notice. Use KeyboardNotifier (tiny taskbar indicator) to see the status. Also, no Scroll Lock key, or any way to trigger that. Could probably use KeyTweak to set a key combo to do that. Will be swapping in a 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD for the current 256GB SATA M.2 drive, will probably remove the 2TB HD to an external case for backups. Also, 8GadgetPack will get your gadgets back; I use Clock, Calendar, and WeatherCenter. Still trying to get Bluetooth to work to my older Bose speaker though...

Great product, bad execution
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got mine for $1200 in store. For the first couple of months it worked perfectly. I was really happy with the performance it provided, and it fulfilled all my needs, absolutely loved it. But this only lasted a couple of months The design is flawed, the bottom will get extremely hot when you do anything even slightly demanding, way beyond the point of even touching the laptop for more than 5 seconds especially when plugged in. If you don’t have a cooling pad or a fan inches from the side of the laptop, while the laptop is elevated, it will overheat. After 4 months of usage, the Wi-FI and Bluetooth stopped working, for me it was sooner than most but from what I’ve seen it's a not really a rare occurrence. Most likely due to the overheating. After taking it to geek squad they sent it off where they sent it off and the whole motherboard was replaced, it's just been greatly underperforming ever since. First they didn’t install the drivers, but even after doing that, with latest windows updates and all the latest drivers it still underperforms greatly. Games that I was able to run at 60 to 80+ fps in high graphics now barely reach 25 to 40fps with consistent stutters while being in lower graphical settings than before, which for some reason frame goes back up and the stuttering disappear after unplugging the laptop from the ac adapter, but after roughly two minutes of being unplugged the CPU spikes and everything freezes. I’m still going back and forward with geek squad trying to get this fixed. The touchpad is not the best, I love the multiple functions and it works amazing when it's actually working, but it just stops working sometimes in certain spots and can be very inconsistent, way more than it should, it's happening while writing this review. Your also going to have to get used to the backlight burn in as it is quite noticeable, especially by the bottom of the display where both vents are located Everything else works absolutely great, although the hinges are just a little bit creaky it's not something that bothers me. It's a sleek and beautiful design, and performance is great (unless you’re in my situation). I love this laptop, I really do, but after the repair it's just been a huge headache trying to get the laptop back to the state it was performance wise. The overheating is a huge oversight and kind of a dealbreaker in my opinion. It's the source of all my problems with this laptop. I greatly recommend the extra warranty if you're going to buy this, and get a cooling pad or put a fan next to the laptop, especially if you're gaming on it, this is 100% necessity so it doesn’t overheat, I can't stress this enough. You can most likely avoid the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi problem just by having a fan next to the laptop so it never overheats and you don’t have to get the motherboard replaced, which unless you have warranty, its extremely costly and you're better off buying a new laptop than repairing it.

Posted .Dear Valued Customer,
We do understand the inconvenience this may have caused you, your dissatisfaction with the quality of the product and your recent customer service experience.
All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections during the warranty service process, this is a random problem. It is normal for the laptop to generate excessive heat while it is under heavy load like gaming, WINDOWS Update and antivirus scan. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full-throttle. It does decreases or normalizes once utilization goes down.
We do value our customers and take negative customer service experience very seriously. This is not the quality of service expected from ASUS. We do stand behind our product and we continuously strive to improve our approach and processes in order to achieve customer service excellence. If you need further assistance with the warranty service for the product, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I will be more than happy to help. Great For The Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've only had it for a day, but it is turning out to be a great laptop. I was a little undecided to go with ASUS, but best buy was so persuasive. In the beginning I was experiencing the same touch pad issues as described by others and it was frustrating me. I was able to go to ASUS website and download touch-pad drivers for this model. After a reboot, and about 20 min for the new drivers to settle in; no freezing or lag. I have owned top PC's, laptops, and Apple products, didn't think this would be on par to other high end devices for this price. Overall a great laptop!

Solid, not perfect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are someone looking for a dual external monitor solution, you are going to need to do some extra work. The USB -C port is not display capable. I didn't realize this until after I bought it. I run twin 27" monitors, and had sold my macbook as I am leaving the Apple universe. I bought an HDMI to USB 3.0 adapter from Best Buy, J5 Create....and that did the trick...that was a $60 purchase....OTHER THAN THAT....I like the unit...the track pad still acts a tad funky here and there, but I was able to get the settings to my liking by and large...and this unit is well crafted. I am going to keep it...had the dual monitor solution not worked, I would not have kept it.

Good if you don't mind the hum
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll be fair and give a 4. However, I forgot how HDD machines have a hum to them, or maybe it is just the fan on this. I came from an ASUS which I liked, and was hopeful that this ASUS would live up to those expectations. However, I am now returning it because there is a low level hum noise. These days, I view the HDD as more of a gimmick than anything. Do yourself a favor. Pay the extra 50 bucks and get the HP Spectre (I reviewed this on BestBuy.com as well and gave it a 5), which upgrades you from 256SSD + 2TB HDD to 516SSD and to me is the overall better experience as it includes features like Thunderbolt and fingerprint reader. I mean, unless you're in the minority who really needs the 2TB HDD, in which case just expect to live with the humming noise.

Nice screen, great CPU, ok GPU, terrible sound
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Speakers on this notebook is the deal breaker. They are the worst I've ever heard on any notebook I have purchased, and this is my most expensive computer. The audio quality is poor. It sounds grainy, muddled, and all around anything but "cinematic." It was advertised as cinematic sound quality on Asus.com (saw this when trying to download drivers for Realtek to see if it fixes it). I guess an old CRT TV at a thrift store can have cinematic sound quality according to Asus' standards because it is just awful. For this price I can not accept mediocrity for one of the most important features for an entertainment device. Half of the ICEAudio control options just don't even do a thing, "loudness" for example. Typical of a premium half baked product. Sure I can buy Bluetooth speakers and that would "fix" the problems, but that ruins the portability of a notebook when you need to carry extra gadgets that I'd normally wouldn't, especially when I carry hard drives, a Wacom tablet, and a mouse, not to mention adds onto the already high price and just uses up a USB port when charging. The sound even pops and crackles randomly at higher volumes (maybe lower volumes also). You can expect this with a $200 budget machine, but anything this much higher is inexcusable. I have done Google searches and others with Asus notebooks have similar issues with their audio. Most of the results are related to ROG gaming notebooks but I am sure many other Asus models has this issue too. My budget Dell notebook (less than $500) has better sound. I will return this tomorrow at Best Buy and consider waiting for laptops with 9th gen CPU and new GPUs, or build a new desktop with way better specs for cheaper and give up on mobility. The Dell computer I use has a dead battery and is old but I can still ride it out until then. The next attempt at a notebook computer will not be an Asus, that is for sure.

Posted .Dear JustMeh,
I do understand your disappointment with the quality of the audio and the inconvenience this may have caused you. The audio quality of the internal speakers is decent. If the volume level is low, please check the Volume Control properties and verify if the volume level was set to the correct listening level. However, for better listening please, we recommend using a headset or an external speaker system. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, this is a random problem. I recommend sending it in for testing and diagnosis in order to determine the root cause. Should you need further assistance with the product, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I would be more than happy to help.

Network Adapter failure
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Loved this computer but the network adapter failed after barely 6 months. Brought it to Geek Squad and they said it was a rare thing and I was just unlucky. But it has happened again about a year later! Bought it honestly cause Asus is a brand that is rated highly in terms of being ethically and sustainably made (Apple is rated quite low in comparison). But it sucks spending this much $$ and dealing with this aspect. Otherwise it’s been super fast and great. Just my 2 cents!

Screen issues and can't get fixed without sending
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this computer about 5 months ago on the recommendation of the sales person. He said for the programs I need to run (architectural), the graphics will be great. I'm not a "Techie" person so I rely on the knowledgeable sales people to direct me. I'm not happy at all with the purchase. I had a Lenovo for 10 years that I loved as well as a Dell for several years. Never had an issue with either one. My budget was up to $2000. The screen on my Asus "pulses and strobes" and gets color bands of lines all through it both vertically and horizontally. When you put pressure on the back of the screen it (sometimes) stop. It happens randomly and over time will subside. I do client presentation with this - so a little embarrassing when all of sudden the colorful bands appear. Clearly a hardware issue. Something is loose in the screen. Best Buy said I had to send it to ASUS and then gave me the number to call them. I am self employed and can't be without my computer for the 2 - 4 weeks they are saying it would take to fix. When I called ASUS they said there was nothing else they could do for me other than me sending it in. And as a side note, it was very difficult to talk to them - delay in phone and heavy accent. Not good customer service. When I've had other things under warranty needing to be fixed, a company makes good and gives a "loner" to use. Both Best Buy and Asus said that's not part of their warranty. So I'm supposed to be without my work tool for 4 weeks - are they going to supplement my lost income? In the future my computer purchase will be direct to the manufacturer and it will not be an ASUS.

Posted .Dear Julie,
Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with your laptop's screen, please accept my apologies. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control, testing and inspections. What you've experienced was not intentional or representative of our brand. I understand that you will be inconvenienced by the repair time required, but in order to fix your device we would need to have it shipped to a repair facility. If you bought the laptop 5 months ago it is well within the warranty period should you choose that option. If you have any general or technical questions, please email me at cl-lane@asus.com and include a link to this review for reference.
Thank you for choosing ASUS!

10/10 Do NOT recommend.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this a while ago and figured it was time to write a review. Item was bought brand new in 2019, used very lightly (for YouTube and basic web surfing) maybe 5-10 times (last time was middle of October 2019) and it's been dead ever since. Right before it died, the wifi card stopped working and shortly after the whole computer was done. Doesn't charge, doesn't even show the charge indicator. Upon investigation it appears that this specific model is known to have motherboard failures ($400 replacement boards can be bought), wish I'd known before spending $1,500 on it. I would definitely stay away from this model, don't spend your money on a flop.

Disappointingly unreliable and now dead
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TLDR; owned this for only a couple of years and not only is it unusable, it is not repairable. I've had this laptop from May 2020 till now (Nov. 2022). While it has some nice components like the rich screen color, decent i7 Intel processor, and some other little things here and there, I've been getting BSODs for the last year, leading up to last night when it couldn't go longer than a minute or so before crashing after many reboots. Today I booted a physical memory testing app called MemTest86 on it from USB and it is currently on pass 3 of 4 with almost 10,000 errors. So why don't I just swap out the memory for new? The memory is soldered to the motherboard, thus making it not replaceable. Good thing i didn't spend the money on the replacement battery, as that was starting to become an issue as well... but to be fair, battery life can be somewhat of a subjective topic in terms of how different owners use/charge... the point is that not only is this a bad investment over a 2-3 year period, its even worse to further invest on less critical parts when such a critical part of the system goes bad like this. Again, there are some nice components and features to this product. They just don't have any value if you can't use them and that's where I am at. Very disappointing.
