I stumbled across this laptop and wasn't sure what to think of it. This is an expensive laptop and I wasn't sure it would be worth the money. I am extremely impressed with how much I enjoy the laptop and all its features. I use the touchscreen all the time. I like to fold it up in the TeePee position and use a wireless mouse and keyboard. I use this computer for gaming and leisure. It runs SC2 on ultra at 40+ fps. Running games will make it run hot which is expected. However, when you put it in the TeePee positon it leaves the fan at the top withgood air access and this keeps it impressively cool. The 4k screen is amazing and is by far the best quality screen I have ever used. I am super happy I found this laptop and decided to purchase it.

Great Laptop Besides Battery & OS

I've had this laptop for over a year and a half and I've had quite a while to figure out what I like and don't like about it. Pros: + More space than I could ever need as a student & casual gamer + Enough memory to run numerous programs at once, but I have pushed it to its limits before + Fast processor, outpaces the memory + Quick startup + Beautiful display with high-performance settings + Plenty of ports Cons: - Battery is abysmal, I struggle to get 3 hours running remotely-decent settings, I refuse to use power-saver for gaming - Windows 10 is absolutely terrible with all of it's bloated software and update requirements, and has crashed multiple times due to OS specific failures. Windows 10 also makes it exceptionally difficult to switch to other Operating Systems such as Ubuntu or Windows 7. - ASUS has some bloatware as well, but I have removed most of it - GPU is significantly underpowered in comparison to the memory and processor, but this is what allowed them to achieve this low price-point - Touch-Screen is a novelty I turn off most of the time unless I play a game like checkers or chess - Heavy, but I could care less Tips: • Carry your charger EVERYWHERE • Get rid of Windows 10 unless you actually like the Touch-Screen for some reason • Toy with the graphics settings as they do not come optimized

Overall nice, with some annoying flaws

The speakers did not operate for the first few weeks, and then one day they came on. Maybe it was a setting, but I did not do anything one way or the other to change things. The power button is so small and hard-to-find. One must hit it with a fingernail only -- the pad of the finger will not push it in. Easy to make a double strike on it and the computer boots up for a second and shuts down. Likewise, the power adapter port is black, with a black case. It is a challenge to plug in the power without laying eyes right on the side of the case. In a dark room, it's especially tricky. I personally find it uncomfortable to scrape the power plug around and around on the case until it finds the hole. Worst of all is the touchpad. Sadly, touchpads have really taken a step backward in my opinion. It frequently becomes unresponsive. It will accept a light tap over and over as one would expect, and suddenly it won't accept a light tap. You strike it harder; nothing happens. Then you hammer it with your finger and it finally accepts. A little challenging to pick a selection from a drop-down list, or place a caret in a small selection box. Then, from time-to-time, it undergoes some sort of internal process where it lags and the mouse pointer will barely move, and apparently it will create a mouse click on its own, so it is selecting randomly while the mouse movement tries to catch up with your actions from several seconds ago. After five or ten seconds it goes back to normal. Fast machine, solid but light, nice looking, but a few details that one finds oneself forcing oneself to live with. One more minor thing: if you go to a screen such as a Windows installation prompt where it grays out the entire screen, except for one small modal window, the screen takes several seconds to come back to normal when you dismiss the modal window. The whole screen will remain very subtly darkened, but after about ten or fifteen seconds it fades back up to full brightness. You see this also on websites that throw up a nag window and gray out the screen. I thought it was my eyes for quite a while.

Nearly everything you could want at a great value

I've been using this laptop for two college semesters now and it's been a terrific experience. I'm a dual major in both computer science and digital art so my requirements for a laptop were a bit unusual, yet this device fits them beautifully. Though there are newer computers that outperform it, I feel like the combination of features at the price point make it an unmatched machine for productivity. The solid state drive, though not as fast as the drives used in MacBooks, enables the computer to be up and running in less than thirty seconds and to open applications and files with minimal lag. 512 GB of SSD space is already plenty for day to day use, but the real bonus is that there is also a secondary 2 TB mechanical hard drive included for extra storage. This second drive is only 5400 RPM so it's not nearly as fast as the primary SSD, but it works really well for storing large files that don't need to be accessed immediately. The rest of the hardware isn't compromised either. The dual-core 7th generation i7 processor performs fantastically and rarely lags. One thing I do wish is that it was quad-core like the new 8th generation (More cores typically means better performance in applications like video editing and 3D rendering), but in regular usage, it is plenty fast. Sixteen gigabytes of RAM is really the sweet spot for most purposes, even with multiple high-end Adobe applications open it always seems to have memory to spare. To make it even more of a value, the laptop even includes a discrete 950M Nvidia GPU. While it won't do high-end gaming, I've found that GPU works well for video editing and light modeling/rendering. I had no problem exporting and encoding a 15-minute 1080p video in Premiere Pro using GPU acceleration. As trivial as it seems, ports are a big reason why I chose this laptop as well. My previous laptop was a 2012 MacBook Pro that had ports for pretty much everything I could want: USB, SD, etc. When I saw Apple's new MacBook Pro announcement I was really disappointed that everything had been removed in favor of USB-C. This laptop solved my need of wanting a slim laptop that had all of the necessary ports built in. On the left side, it has the standard full-size SD-card slot, USB port, and headphone jack. The right side is even more fun with a full-size HDMI (Which is incredibly useful for connecting to external displays), two more USB ports, and the new Type-C port for future expansion. Even better is the inclusion of a number pad on the keyboard, which I use quite often for quick calculations and camera controls in Blender. All of this is contained in a system that is a little under an inch thick and roughly five pounds, which isn't ultrathin but easy to transport and carry. The biggest reason I picked out this computer over a more powerful gaming or workstation laptop is because of the Windows Ink capability. The ability to flip the laptop into a tablet and take notes on the screen is something that is extremely invaluable for college classes. My calculus class, for example, would often require multiple pages of notes for a single concept. With this laptop, I simply fold it down on the table and write down notes in a continual document without worrying about space or having to fit everything on a page (I use OneNote but there are other applications). The only issue is that a stylus is not included with the laptop, but I picked up a Wacom Bamboo Ink pen separately and it worked perfectly. Of course, there are a few compromises with the computer, no device is perfect. The battery life is six hours at best, with typical usage I can get about 3-4 hours. It's not as bad as it sounds though because the included charger is nicely compact so I can usually fit in a pocket on my backpack and not worry about it. The 4K screen, though pleasant to look at, feels unnessacary for a 15-inch display. Some Windows applications have difficulty scaling properly so they either display too big trying to compensate or appear really tiny on the screen. There's also not many accessories specific to the laptop so finding a case can be difficult (Though I've seen some for sale). It is all of these features combined that make it a better value than a similarly priced MacBook or Surface. While a lot of laptops have similar or better hardware than this one, it is the only laptop I have found that has both Ink capabilities and strong hardware for under 1500 dollars.

It's been 10 years since I've looked at laptops and was impressed with this Asus 2 in 1. The specs looked great with lots of space and features for what I needed. I've used the laptop for over two weeks now and the only issues I've come across so far is the battery life; I wish it would get at least 8 hours, I typically get 4-5 on one charge with light internet work. The second issue I've had is the touch-pad. It can get very sensitive and lag briefly but I have not looked into a setting for it to see if that would fix the issue yet. Over all I feel like this is a great deal since it was hard to find even a 1tb hdd in the same price point.

I've easily put 80 hours on this laptop in the last week and a half and can say it's a great fit. It's fast, feature-packed, and slick. The sound system is above par for a laptop and Windows Ink is irreplaceable. I've had trouble getting used to tablet mode, gaining control over administrative settings, and plenty of other things, but it didn't take long to figure most of it out. I like the laptop; it's a good fit for creative people and students.

    Great computer with horrible screen

My nearly five year old Sony Flip 15 has started to fail, so I needed a similar replacement. With a Core i7, 16GB of RAM, 2.5TB of Hard Drive space and a discrete 2GB GPU while retaining pen input, this ASUS seemed to be perfect. I purchased the Sony Flip 15 for $1299 and the ASUS Q534 was the same price, making my boss happy. As a design professional I require a high powered computer, but also a great screen. The screen on the Sony Flip was phenomenal. With a few tweaks it was within a few points of professional displays that cost twice what the entire laptop cost. Contrast ratio, black levels, color definition and accuracy were all top notch. The Q534 has good colors, but the black levels and contrast ratio are terrible. The screen is highly reflective and washes out easily. Maybe this was done for viewing in direct sunlight, but it ruins the display for serious design work. Putting it next to the Sony Flip, the ASUS looks like a LCD display from 2004. For such a high powered computer, this display is a major letdown. I may need to return it and go for the HP. The specs aren't as good but the screen looks better.

Its a great all around computer, BUT if you are planning on using this for Solidworks or draftsight I would highly recommend looking at something different. The 4k resolution messes with these programs. It makes the icons appear smaller and its hard to work with. I bought this for school, and wish I would of went with a dell business laptop instead. My CAD teacher said this is a nice laptop, but its overkill. The only other flaw i found is the facial recognition. It doesn't work 90% of the time. The lighting in the background seems to affect this like crazy.

Loved it, while it actually worked

I absolutely adored this computer when I got back in September(less then two months ago). I originally bought it so that next semester I could run 3D modeling programs on it, but I have not yet download any of these programs yet. The computer is was used for school, that's it. As someone applying to graduate school at the moment, this computer died at the actual worse time possible. All of the following happened within two hours, and the next day I went to geek squad. What started as a simple random blue crash screen while on the internet, soon became the death of my laptop. After going back and forth with attempts to a) actually use my $1400 laptop that isn't even paid off yet and b) reset and restore, I eventually couldn't even start my computer without it crashing. I took it to geek squad who said they couldn't do anything other then send it in, which obviously I had to do. So now I'm a comptuerless college student trying to do actual school, apply to graduate school, and do research with out a computer. Seems impossible? Because it is.

Fast Laptop, Great Price for Features

I totally love this laptop. I have had it for about 4 months. The keyboard is well laid out and has the number pad, which I use often for Excel, especially. Not all laptops have that. The 15" display the perfect size for portability yet large enough for complicated applications and it is very crisp, clear and bright. The laptop is very well thought out. I like that the SSD contains the OS and will boot up fast and then it has the 2TB of storage on the second drive. Also my applications come up fast. This has nothing to do with the laptop, but coming from Windows 7, I really didn't like the Windows 10 menu setup, so I solved that by installing Classic Shell, which lets me convert to the Windows 7 menu style. Other than that, Windows 10 works quite well. I looked for a long time at laptops online, Costco, etc. And Best Buy really had the best choice. Additionally, ASUS has a good reputation. I purchased the Geek protection and I like that I can just go to the store and work with them if anything happens. This laptop has been the perfect choice for me.

    I regret buying this laptop

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is the first time I've ever left a review for a laptop because I sincerely regret buying this Asus Q534U three months ago. I'm stuck with it, but I hope my mistake will dissuade others. This is the worst laptop I've ever bought new. The Best Buy employee assured me it was the best non-Mac they sold. I wish I hadn't taken his word for it. Most of the features of this laptop are fine. It's quick and responsive. The battery life is as I'd expect. The picture is great. The sound quality is okay, made better by using the external speaker that comes with the unit. The size, weight, and feel are great. This had the potential to be a really nice computer. But the quirks destroy the user experience. The biggest problem: the touch screen. It's the worst touch screen I've used in 15 years! Absolutely horrible. I'm surprised it went to market like this. One-finger touch does not differentiate between right or left click, so a finger touch produces a completely random and unpredictable response. There is an option to disable the touch screen's left click, but this option actually does nothing - toggling this option off or on doesn't matter. Most of the time, a touch does what I want. But very commonly, many times per day, it does not. This is especially infuriating when using a web browser. A touch on a tab or link could mean a right click, or it could mean the random closing of a tab, the random opening of a tab, the opening of the webpage's source code, or worst of all, the closing of all tabs. It's so bad, it makes me afraid to use the touch screen when using a web browser, which is most of what I do. Scrolling doesn't always produce the desired result either, randomly. It's maddening. Another quirk is unreliable sound. Randomly, sound will be disabled without any way to turn it back on. It has nothing to do with the mute feature; the laptop could be at full volume but sound won't play. Windows troubleshooting the audio system does nothing. Only rebooting the laptop restores the sound. Another quirk is a program window visual issue with Chrome. Occasionally, when bringing Chrome from background to front, the laptop fails to load the program visually and instead the browser is entirely grayed out. I need to click on a tab blindly to move the browser get the visual to load. This may be just a bug with Chrome, but I've used Chrome on several computers without seeing this bug before. I've owned this laptop for 3 months, but I've experienced these issues from the start. I regret not returning the laptop the first week. It's very early in a laptop's life for me to be cursing it daily (usually multiple times per day). It will only get worse. I already predict this laptop will not last me long because it's so frustrating to use, I'm likely to break it on purpose so I can have an excuse to purchase a better machine.

This Asus pc I purchased from Best Buy one and a half years ago when it first was introduced. I consider myself experienced using various pcs since early 1990s. This Asus is outstanding. It boots up very fast, faster than any I've used previously. It also has 4K HD screen with TWO hard drives. Text on the screen is tight and crystal clear. Not wooly, fuzzy or grainy as older, other units. When you do an MS software update, its installs very quickly. This second week of January 2018 the pc is reduced. You shouldn't hesitate to buy.

I've had this laptop for about 4 years now. It is been pretty bulletproof except for a couple items. There is no replacement for this laptop from Asus in terms of having an extra two terabyte hard drive. But I'm looking at Asus Zenbook such as I never used the two-in-one screen. Machine is fast and plenty good for most tasks. I am finding It's a very difficult notebook to replace and it seems old me Asus latest notebooks are not available anywhere yet. Even late model 2020 ones are not available anywhere. So I trudge on. Screen is fantastic. The webcam is great for signing on to Windows in particular. The reason I couldn't give this laptop a four or five is because of its build quality. Screen tents to separate when you try and bend it back and over the years my mouse pad Has Lifted in one corner. I expect better from Asus. In their defense they have redesigned the two-in-one hinges but I won't be buying a two-in-one computer as I never use that tablet feature. If you can find it one of these used we're around $600 you're getting an excellent value.
