Great Laptop - Be patient during setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A lot is happening in the background when you first fire it up. Be patient and don't try to start loading your programs and setting it up the way you want, or browse the Web. Windows is updating, ASUS is updating, and the Store is installing default apps that used to be part of the initial Windows installation. But all this activity is maxing out the HDD so it makes even web browsing seem slow. Yes, it takes a while - all afternoon possibly. But it's worth the wait. This is a fast computer once it gets setup. I took a chance on an open box - even after looking at the negative reviews. It seemed buyers either loved it or seemed they got a defective unit. I was almost disappointed when the HDD seemed HORRIBLY slow. Then started poking around and found all the updates running in the background as part of the initial setup. Once they finished this thing is lightning fast.

Good laptop, but it has an Achilles heel.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed an additional notebook to be used for my mobile DJ business. I required an i5 processor or better, backlit keyboard, numeric keypad, touch screen, and HDMI output. I found this unit at my local Best Buy as an open box item with a significant (over 20%) price reduction. With an i7, 12GB of RAM, and the nice aluminum exterior, I thought this model would be a pleasure to use. As many other reviewers have noted, the included 2TB, 5200rpm hard drive is such a dog, it brings what should be a strong performer to it's knees. This issue can easily be resolved by purchasing a solid state drive and replacing the original unit. I chose a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB drive, and the replacement was a breeze. I put the 2TB drive into a separate hard drive enclosure and will use it for extra storage. The increase in performance with the solid state drive was incredible, taking the system from a boot time of nearly 60 seconds to booting to the desktop in 10 seconds (including use of the facial recognition unlock). In summary, if you are not planning on upgrading the HD to a SSD, you won't be happy with the performance of this notebook considering it's specs. Add a solid state drive, and it rocks!

Freezes constantly.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It has always presented performance problems. It is a team that constantly freezes from day one. It can no longer be upgraded to Windows 11 nor can it be used with Local AI. Image quality is fair.

Good specs, but the HDD
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Within the first couple months of owning, the hard drive crapped out on me and corrupted the OS. They replaced it recently and I will keep you posted. Otherwise it runs at a decent speed, but I have no patience. As a media arts student, I need all its capabilities.

Balance of work and play
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The hard drive is big and slow, but I knew that going in. Any mechanical drive is like that. I installed an M.2 SSD, duplicated the boot disk image, and that resolved the slow startup. The computer will be spending its life getting my son through high school. It has enough horsepower to play a few games, but not so much that games will be a distraction. I couldn't beat the price for the features; I got it open-box for under $600. It's only been a few days, but it's running great.

Great specs, Terrible performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This computer is a terrible computer for it's price. As many others are saying, i am having the same problems as in it freezes every so often. My worst problem i've had so far was that the hard drive completley failed, sure it was under warranty and replaced for free but it failed after 3 months of basic use since i bought it brand new. I've also seen other reviews on here for bad hard drives as well Also the internet lags on and off again. I'll go from full bars of wifi to very little wifi and many times will not connect to a page because of no wifi signal. Meanwhile i'll be on xbox live and not get kicked off and pick up my phone and search on there, all while using the same wifi connection and no problems. When it does do what it can it's pretty good, but with all the negatives i've had with this, it is def not worth paying nearly $1,000. I'd recommend going Dell or Lenovo

Purty Awesome
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have not had one problem that appear in earlier reviews. This computer more than lives up to it's "as advertised" Fastest MS computer I have ever owned. The kid (sorry, I be old) was great! Asked what I needed to do, cut down his advice to 2 or 3 options and then checked and found an open box when I freaked at the price. But I am glad and its great to have some thing this advanced. The computer it self. More than thrilled with my choice, this computer. I often suffer from buyer's remorse too. Not with this purchase. I strongly recommend it, if it fits your needs. The complaints below have either been addressed or are unfounded. Set up was easier and faster than any windows machine I have ever owned.

Almost Perfect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have the version with the 16gig RAM and an added 500 GB SSD. First off, I want to say that this thing is amazingly fast. I use it for design, as well as software and web programming. I run a lot of power hungry programs at the same time, and this thing hasn't even once slowed down. If you need something that can handle anything that you throw at it, this is it. Now for the ONLY downside. The speakers in this thing are atrocious. Even making sure that I had the correct drivers, they are terrible. It does come with a little plug in speaker to help offset this fact, it still does no good. So if music or movies are your thing, look elsewhere, or you will be very put off by it. Otherwise, if you are like me and don't quite need them, you will absolutely love this thing.

Wow...this thing is bad...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Literally the worst laptop I've ever had. RIDICULOUSLY slow. I opened this on Christmas morning and it took until this morning to finish the OS updates. I wanted to test a small'ish Steam game on this but it's been 7 hours and Slime Rancher is still only 40% downloaded. I have zero trust in this brick, so I'm uninstalling everything now and getting ready to bring this thing back.

Froze 3 times, SLOW, horrible despite its specs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This computer has all of the specs to make it a great computer (it was sold by a BestBuy rep as a "great engineering computer that can handle autocad), but the computer froze three times on me and rebooted itself while I was working in the first 10 days, when I wasn't even running a program. It had to "rescan the disc". The computer froze when nothing was open and I went to open word. It froze with nothing open when I went to check the battery. Froze when I went to check the WiFi. It will freeze even when doing the simplest thing. I bought it because I need to have many programs running at once, and it will freeze when opening up the smallest thing... The computer is very very sluggish and slow--every single day so far, I will be doing something very basic and it freezes for about 5-10 minutes. Will be returning to Best Buy ASAP! Horrible horrible computer, waste of time and money. Small aside, the face recognition is unreliable even though I scan my face multiple times...

Faulty Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had high hopes for this product, buy boy was I disappointed. Bought this laptop a day ago at the time of this review and it already wasn't functioning properly as I was experiencing black screens, blue screens with the " :( ", slow speeds, and a poorly functioning Windows 10 system. For a laptop with a i7 processor and a Nividia graphics card, this was a truly disappointing product for me as either the laptop wasn't made properly or that Windows wasn't installed properly. Will return/ exchange and hopefully receive a better product.

Games?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This things a beast for everyday tasks. Emails, youtube, loading a match of Battlefield 4. Yep, full multiplayer match of PubG, while streaming on Twitch. Easy if you dont mind low/med settings. I prefer high frame rates over graphics, and playing Rainbow 6 Siege on the lowest setting gets me into the Gold tier. Might I add that low settings don't look half bad with this machine. Fallout 4 has lower frames, around 40 to 50 but is playable with a ton of mods for about 3 hours solid on battery. The size is what I love most, I fly all the time and I swear the guy sitting next to me wants to have a turn in finishing a tower within Mortal Kombat XL. Good thing I always carry a spare Xbox One controller which connect via bluetooth. Also, 48 percent on the 2Tb of memory used with me. More than enough for my 800 plus photos and 27 games. Its a good buy for the price and I got mine one year ago, Feb 2017.

Save your time and money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First purchased this computer to replace a Toshiba Satellite that we have had for nearly 10 years. Specs were great on this computer, Best Buy sales suggested it hands down over any other computer in this price range. Unfortunately the we had nothing but problems from the start. The computer would take 10 mins to boot up, and started getting worse up to the point it took 4 hrs to boot up after only a week of use. Facial recognition never worked either. Went ahead and contacted Best Buy and drove the 1 1/2 hrs to the nearest store. Swapped out the laptop for a new one due to a failing hard drive. Guess what we had to do with the replacement one? You guessed it, used it for a week, left for work for 2 months and went to use it again (hadn't been used during the 2 months) and had to return it for store credit after another 100 mile trip each way. Now I need to figure out what to spend the store credit on...
