    VERY Good Overall Laptop

I am an 18 year old college freshman that needed a laptop for school, I do however enjoy gaming on the side and thought that the specs on this thing should do the trick. The graphics this thing produces are AMAZING when you tweak the in game settings a little. Everything on this laptop is great, keyboard, touch screen, etc. The only issue I have had in my 2 weeks of using it is battery ONLY WHEN GAMING. This laptop will give you a good 6-7 hours of web surfing and doing what you would do on your home desktop, however, when you load up CounterStrike, League of Legends or any other modern PC game, say goodbye to your battery life, you will get max 4 hours so if you do plan on gaming during the day or something bring your charger. I recommend this laptop to anyone who needs a very solid laptop but enjoys gaming on the side. If you are a heavy duty gamer this may not be your best option because you do have to do a lot of tweaking to get optimized graphics. If you don't play PC games much, then you might want to think of something a little cheaper because the price on this laptop is mostly based on the fact that it has an intel i7 and an NVidia GeForce 940m graphics card. Overall, very good laptop, game wisely without a charger, and I definitely do recommend it!!

Great 2 In 1 with one issue

Let me start off by saying that this is a great laptop/2in1. i researched about a month until finding this one which had all the specs i wanted plus a bonus 2 gb dedicated graphics and a DVD drive. The only problem with the DVD drive is that the computer comes with windows 8.1 which doesnt have DVD playback. You would have to purchase a Media Center app from the app store for 10.00. An alternative that i used for this is i downloaded the VLC Media player which saved me ten dollars. Another small issue i had with this but otherwise great computer is that there are already a lot of smudge marks on the mousepad and in and around the mousepad area. Other wise a Great computer.

Fantastic twist on a mainstream Asus product!

This laptop is a Best Buy exclusive, which is to say, you won't find much documented on the ASUS site about it. The long and the short of it is this - it's an offshoot of the TP500 series, add a 5th Generation CPU, plus a CD/DVD drive. Be careful, don't make the mistake I did - there are TWO Q551L laptops at Best Buy - only difference between the two is this one that I am reviewing has a 5th generation i7 - the other has a 4th generation i7. The model number on this one ends with 708 - the 4th generation ends with 706. I had the other for only a few days until I realized my mistake, so I went back and exchanged for this 5th generation model. It's got a rock-solid construction! Built like a tank! ABout 95% of the housing is aluminum - the only plastic I see is the front bezel to the screen. Even though I'll rarely use the 2-in-1 functionality (I stick with Laptop), I wanted the capability so if I ever do want to use it, it's there! I've rested it out , works nicely in tablet, stand, and tent modes! This model (and the 706 4th Gen i7 model) I mentioned are the only 2-in-1 laptops I've found with the 2-in-1 capabilities and still keep the CD/DVD drive. Personally I feel that CD/DVD is an outdated modality, but there are folks that I have to give media to, so, it's good to have it if you need it! All in all - if I had the spare money I would go back and buy a 2nd one of these - fantastic laptop! USES - Work, play, mobility

My laptop was perfectly fine and worked great until one day the screen turned pink and green. when it first happened it went away with just powering on and off the screen, but then it started happening more frequently and now it is stuck with a pink and green screen and the laptop has not been dropped or anything its just not working correctly.

Best Laptop Under $1,000 Available at Best Buy

I returned the Lenovo model that was similar to this one (Edge 15), after owning it for about two weeks, and got this one instead. Initially, this was my first choice, since Asus is a brand I trust, but the sales staff talked me into the Lenovo. I was hesitant, since the first Lenovo I had (the Y50 Touch) had a hinge blow out due to a manufacturer defect, but he made the Lenovo Edge sound great so I went for it. My mistake. This Asus and the Lenovo are the only "non-gaming" laptops that my local Best Buy carries in-store that have dedicated graphics. The specs on the two are roughly the same, but after now having owned them both, the Asus blows Lenovo out of the water. The most obvious difference is that this one flips all the way over into tablet mode, while the Lenovo only goes into a "stand" mode, which constantly made me nervous (I have kids and could definitely see them leaning on it and snapping the hinge). When you pick up this laptop, you can feel that it's well-built and sturdy. It's solid and doesn't feel like it's going to break when you flip it into tablet mode. Even the Asus packaging is classy! And the included sub-woofer is a real treat when watching movies or listening to music. It really makes a huge difference in sound! The screen is bright and beautiful, and, while it does come with a few software programs pre-installed, there isn't nearly the same number of junk-ware programs that are shoved onto the Lenovo. Also, this machine is *quiet* no matter what i'm doing on it. The Lenovo was so loud I thought for sure the hard drive was about to go out. Like, wake me up from a dead sleep kind of loud. I love that the fans are at the back, as well, so I can use this on any surface without worrying that I'm blocking fans and overheating the laptop. PERFORMANCE & GAMING With the specs on this laptop, it's no surprise that it'll do basic tasks effortlessly. Videos, browsing, etc. are, of course, no issue. Because of the dedicated Nvidia graphics, I'm also able to play a few of my favorite games without so much as a glitch. Diablo III: Reaper of Souls plays on maximum settings while still getting decent FPS and no choppiness or lag. Fable Anniversary edition also plays well, as does The Witcher 2, though the settings need to be turned down for that one. For those who want to grab newer, more graphic-intensive games, you'll need something with a better video card. This laptop isn't going to run The Witcher 3, for example, but I knew that when I bought the laptop. All-in-all I'm beyond pleased with the performance, build, and quality of this laptop and have absolutely zero regrets about returning the Lenovo to pick this one up, instead. My only regret is that I wasted 15 days on the other one, when I should have gotten this one the first time!

This is a good laptop. I made the additon of a 500GB Solid State drive, and 8 more GB of Memory. It's perfect for my needs. Plays Fallout 4, and (more importantly?) its great for work. The screen is bright, and works great for movies, work, games. Keeps cool under a constant load (Fallout 4). It scores a 2500+ Benchmark with a SSD and extra Memory.

My husband bought this a month ago and loves ASUS computers. While he loves this computer, unfortunately he had issues with the updated OS, and will go back to 8.1 until all the bugs are fixed. He loves the touch screen capability and that he could fold it over and use it like a tablet.

    Love Asus Laptops!

Couple of days ago I bought an HP Envy touchscreen for $500 sale from $630. Good thing I didn't open it yet. When I saw the price of this laptop on this website. My jaw dropped. I immediately called the nearest Best Buy to verify if it is/was in stock. They had 2! I immediately got the HP laptop, drove to Best Buy and without hesitation, paid the extra $200. A lady was buying the same laptop who was under the impression she was buying it for $999. When the sales guy rang her up, he said okay that's $699. High fives everywhere. Ya, from time to time you will be a lemon. Who hasn't gotten one even from the best manufacturers. If you don't know ASUS get to know them, they are not new in the computer industry. As geeks, we know their existence from building desktop PCs. I would have bought 2, but I already own 2 other Asus laptops: An ROG and N56D. No problems with them too!

Bought this for my daughter for college. It was exactly what she wanted but just over our budget. Between a sale, reward points and a college student discount we got it for an outstanding price. Thank you BestBuy! She loves it! She says it handles all of her assignments and projects with ease. No problems at all.

Was looking for a new laptop to replace my 5 year old Sony {hey five years, give it up for Sony}. Saw this on Best Buy website, did some research, and was impressed with the whole package {exclusive to Best Buy} the fastest processor, best graphics, and Bang & Olufsen sound {the best sound} for under $1,000.00, incredible deal, you can't beat this, forget about it...

The computer itself is great however the subwoofer does not work. This is my second non working subwoofer. The DVD plays music but not movies. Asus support has been no help whatsoever. Sadly. I may have to return. If you don't care about a working subwoofer or having a working DVD player I give this computer 5 stars .

So far, I'm pretty happy with this computer. I've gotten used to the speed of SSD drives so I was a little disappointed at how slow the computer was right out of the box. I cloned the hard drive to a Samsung SSD and now I'm VERY impressed! If you're expecting this laptop to boot and open programs almost immediately, you will be disappointed. Spend a little bit extra to get a new SSD to upgrade or buy something else with an SSD already built in.

    Great Until It Broke

I bought this computer in April and have been really impressed...until the screen turned pink and green and there were ghost images that wouldn't go away. Both my Mom and husband have Asus computers and have had great success with them. I had to pay big money to ship it off to Asus and have been without my computer for two weeks now. Asus should stand behind their products. I understand that sometimes parts are faulty and need replacement or repair but the least they could do is pay for shipping both ways and provide a shipping label and pick-up. I expected better for the price tag and will never buy another Asus. I love the computer (when it works) but not the company.

Good in some ways, major headache in others...

I didn't go out with the intentions of buying this expensive of a product. I needed a laptop to replace my 5 year old HP that just wasn't cutting it anymore. I looked around for a little while trying to decide what I wanted and then one of the associates pointed out this device and that it was on sale at the time. When I checked the specs it appeared to have everything that I needed and more. So against my better financial judgement I went ahead and purchased this product expecting the greatest. At first the experience was great and I do like many of the features this device offers, but it wasn't long until I started having some issues. After using the device the first time I just closed the screen and let it go to sleep. When I went to use it the next day the touch screen was unresponsive. I rebooted and it started working again. I didn't think anything of it expecting it was just a fluke, but after that every time I would allow the device to go to sleep it would do the same, which is super annoying. I read online about fixes and have tried everything from adjusting the USB power settings(the touch screen is a USB device) to disabling the USB Selective Suspend and doing a cold boot. I have also tried working with ASUS support to resolve this issue. They just had me reinstall some drivers which fixed nothing. So if I want to use the touchscreen and the device has gone to sleep or hibernate, I have to reboot every time. Also with the specifications that came on this device I was expecting it to move fast, but wrong again. Web browsing is sluggish and sometimes it can take 5 minutes to open other applications. I've also had issues whenever I reboot with the keyboard and number pad. I will have the option to enter the password/pin, but getting the keyboard to work for the first several minutes is sometimes a challenge and I end up having to use the on-screen keyboard to login. I like the look and the idea of this product and when it works correctly its great, but the issues that I experience with it almost daily have proven more than frustrating. Maybe I just purchased a defective device...

    Great computer for the money

This computer has an IPS screen, an Intel I7 processor, and a Nvidia 840m graphics card and costs less than $1k. For the money, it is a fantastic buy. The keyboard is large and pretty well laid out. As with most systems, there are some things that could be improved but for the money, this is worth every cent.

I bought this during Deal-of-the-Day event to replace my dead old laptop. It has everything I need, fast CPU, enough memory & disk space, nice & big enough 15.6" display, DVD reader/burner, Ethernet, WiFi interface, HDMI port, with new USB3.0 ports. It can be turned into a tablet as well.

My second Asus in 7 years. Decided between this and Lenovo but my previous experience with Asus led me to this decision. Definitely get the most bang for the buck. My only criticism is the keyboard back light actually makes it harder to see the keys in normal light situations. Hoping Windows 10 is better than 8.1
