Some tips to help make it AAA+ Shiny
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After Best Buy sold me on that Note 9 deal I learned that Sprint's mobile data here is now around 200Mb/s. Then I saw they've also been having specials going for an alright 8" tablet for free and one much nicer discounted to $100. The condition to get the tablets was agreeing to pay $25/mo per unlimited ~200Mbit/s mobile broadband connection. .... 'k. Hahahaha, no, seriously. So now I have 6 tablets.. These routers may seem pricey, but they're worth every penny. It definitely doesn't hurt to know that they're also called RT-AC66U-B1. It's worth looking up, the two models are only one single model on the fcc testing pages. One just gets the juice kicked up before being sold, but you can turn it up on the other as well. If you're willing to spend a few minutes in setup you can do that to either. This (or that) router is perfect for my needs. It's compatible with dd-wrt, openwrt, tomato, merlin, and more. Those are all custom firmwares. Asus builds the best normal household routers, and they built in amazing features that custom firmware can expand on even more. On top of their consistent high speed they're also full of wonderful features, like security good enough that Sprint can't see what their 6 unlimited bandwidth lines are doing. Anothger great one is that mobile phones/tablets can tether directly into it's USB ports to feed it with internets and also charge the devices, so they're always charged and always connected. Each of these (those) routers can also tether 2 mobile devices. I was very surprised to learn that it does load balancing as well as it does, especially cming together the way it does. Works flawlessly. *Please note that the router can't combine the 2 200Mb/s internet lines into one 400Mb/s line, but that only matters if you'd need all of the bandwidth for one stream or one file connection. One of these lines can stream 8k VR and then some, It can give you 200Mb/s from 2 different connections at once, or 4*100Mb, or 8*50Mb, etc. Torrent and pretty much everything else. I now have a combined average of 1,000-1,300Mb/s for $150/month. I'm actually going to do it, guys. After all these years waiting, I'm finally going to show them what they should have known. For all of us. I'm going to download a car.

Great investment for future devices
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very skeptical about purchasing a $200 priced router. I have normally used netgear and linksys routers in the past that were in the 50-60$ price range. Those were good but always dropped connections or got slow over time. Long story short I was experiencing loss of speed with my Comcast home router. I am paying for their 75mbps *performance* and MOST times I only get 5-15mbps on speedtest. After months of terrible speeds and I know my cable speeds use to be fast I decided to bite the bullet. I didn't do much reading or research too much but this product helped solved any bottleneck in my home network. Using admin mode I turned the cable modem router into bridge mode and setup this ASUS router using wan port 1. Low and behold I was hitting close to 90mbps on my first speed test. The spotty connection I was getting is now MUCH better. Solid internet performance! To be able to use this product at its peak performance make sure you have devices capable of using 5ghz ac mode. The regular 2.4ghz mode is still fast but having the 5ghz mode helps tremendously. The built-in browser setup was also super easy and premium feeling kind of like DD-WRT interface but simplified. If you are on the verge of purchasing this product I would definitely recommend this. It is worth the headaches of dealing with slow spotty speeds.

Returned it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I returned it. This was replacing an older mid range Belkin but this had no increased range over the Belkin. What this did have was numerous random phones connecting to my network. I had no idea who the phones belonged to and I could not get rid of them. Went back to the Belkin and the random phones are gone.

Waste of time
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worst router I've ever used. Dropped the Internet connection approximately every 60 seconds. Tried a 2nd unit, same results. Spent hours with tech support. What a joke, they were clueless. Put my old router back online. No problem.

returned item
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.setting it up was too much of a challenge for me and i didn't want to pay the $l00 fee thru Best Buy, so i returned it. I figured it could pay the $3 a mo. charge thru Spectrum for years before i would break even on the cost.

Terrible!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve never had an almost $200 router be so defective. Terrible quality...my $50 Belkin works far better than this trash item. Don’t buy...was returned after multiple failures and problems starting in day 1.

Wireless went from Download speed of 84mps to 13mp
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wireless went from Download speed of 84mps to 13mp. There is no way to speed it up. Hard to set up. It took me 4 hours to figure it out and I had to hard wire my computer to the router. Never had to do that before.

The perfect mid-high end router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router's interface is incredibly simplistic. The initial setup was seemless and I was up and online within 5 minutes of plugging it in. The speed is exactly what I expected, the range is very good, and the advanced settings work great. Enabling port-forwarding and the OpenVPN service was the easiest I've ever dealt with in a wireless router. There is a setting you have to check that I missed my first go-around that forwards all network traffic through the VPN (which is what I wanted). I highly recommend this router. Frankly, I have yet to ever purchase a bad product with ASUS branding.
