    Bad Connections

Clunky connection depending on how you set this WIFI router up. It works fantastic when it works in a manual setting. You can see who is hogging up the bandwidth and what devices are hooked up by either LAN or wireless. Now the bad part is, if you select one of the auto modes, it tends to disconnect devices on the WIFI. This annoyed everyone on my home, so I set it back to manual and it quit disconnecting devices. There is still no fix for this problem. It appears that this problem has been around for a while based on forums that I have read on ASUS web page. So just leave it on manual, but it will not allow you to see other devices on your ISPs modem. 3 stars because family complained to me :). I would not recommend, only because you have to know how to use this modem internal functions.

I was having major problems with the WiFi networking on my not-too-old NightHawk X6S router. I read the reviews on this Asus router and bought it. We need the Guest WiFi for a tenant, and I love the ability to limit the up/download speeds for only that wireless network.

Geat Router, easy to setup. Very Fast with my ATT Gigapower. Great Range, as it covers our 2500 sq ft home with ease. Only issue is it tends to drop my 5ghz signal from time to time. Not a huge issue, as I assume its a software issue, that can be fixed on the next firmware update.

I needed to replace my older Asus router because I needed more coverage space. This router range is excellent! I have about 34 items connected to it and no slow downs. Even though this router cost alot it well worth the investment. The Asus app is good for basic management but the online UI is really good.

I upgraded to this from a Netgear N900. I went from 30-60 Mbps download with the N900 to 150-180 Mbps download with this. We no longer have the same issues with all of our wireless devices or streaming from the numerous devices as we had before. Plus, the range was greatly increased.

I don't have to constantly reset my router anymore, by unplugging and plug it back on to get the WiFi.

Had a basic Netgear router in place previously. This router provides strong coverage however take into consideration walls that may interfere with the connection in your backroom offices. The setup is a bit tedious

I purchased this to replace a Netgear unit that became unstable after a firmware update. The unit is your typical upper tier consumer router. Many of the features, such as Multi-MIMO are not standardized yet in the WIFI standard and are not necessarily enabled by default or compatible with all devices. Also realize that while the WIFI advertised speeds are pretty incredible very few devices have the required number of antennas or are cranked up enough (especially with mobile devices) to actually attain the advertised throughput. Real world on my phone (Galaxy note 5) I only get a typical 100Mbps or less at 25 feet away with a wall or two in on 5ghz and maybe up to 400Mbps up close. That isn't bad mind you but it isn't even close to 3.5 gigabits like advertised. Firmware updates have been kind of sketchy and I would suggest to just expect to reset to factory settings to get optimal performance after updates. But this again is typical of consumer grade equipment from my experience.

    Dual Band Rules

For the initial setup, I elected to use different SSID for 2.4 and 5 GHz channels which worked; however, my 2.4 GHz printer seemed to require that my PC be using that band which was a bit aggravating. After a week or so, I changed to a single SSID to allow ASUS router to 'smart select' the frequency used to communicate. Had to reset the SSID and password for all devices which was a bit of a bother; HOWEVER, now communication with either 2.4 or 5 GHz devices works seamlessly! I did enable guest Wi-Fi with a password for 2.4GHz and another for 5GHz channel for family and friends to use when visiting. I did not find a way to allow smart select for guest accounts. Signal strength is excellent throughout the 2200 sq ft home and small surrounding yard.

My download speeds are supposed to be at 150mbps (megabits per second). Using an ethernet switch prior, I got around 90mbps. After buying this router, my wired speeds are 190+mbps and my wireless sits around 160. Had it for about 2 months now with no issues. Easy setup, great performance, and nice design.

I purchased this router to replace a faithful AC1900 that I have owned for a while. Switching over routers was a breeze. I could instantly tell this router could handle everyone in my family streaming or playing games without any slowing down of service.

This is a great home or small business router. Paired with fast internet it is a gem. It is able to serve my whole house and because it’s reach I no longer need two routers to serve the whole house! I also love the freedom to change settings on the back end.

Bought this to replace my Nighthawk X6 which recently died. The Asus AC3100 is a better price than the X6 and out performs it. My household has around 30 some devices on the network and this guy handles it all quite well. Have had zero issue with this router and have only been impressed by it.

I have loved this router. This is the main router in my MESH configuration. I have two other satellite nodes that complete my set up. It has performed well and I highly recommend ASUS.
