Better Performance Backing up
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I need VPN server capability and faster backup to hard drive attached to the router. Asus supports standard protocols without having to install VPN client software as well as supporting OpenVPN. Compared to my RT-AC68W (3 yrs old) my backups are twice as fast which is likely from the faster processor and more memory. Watch out for VPN on routers that don't support ios or android clients.

Advanced features, easy VPN setup
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My Netgear nighthawk x8 died (11 months) and to be honest I bought the 3100 as a stand in. I was VERY surprised. Though the 3100 is a dual band vs the x8 (tri-band) the 3100 outperformed the x8 hands down. The web interface and mobile app interface are much more user friendly than the x8. Parental controls are fantastic and easy to use. Most importantly vpn took me 5 minutes to setup with ddns and I can now Stream my Xfinity anywhere like I am home. Love this router
