I used to work for Best Buy for almost 2 1/2 years in the networking department and heard nothing but great things about the Asus products; I guess that notion turned out to be false. I owned this router for about a year and kept telling myself the internet problems must have been for different reasons. I consistently gave the Asus AC3100 the benefit of the doubt, but something always felt wrong. To preface, I live in a 800sq ft apartment with a robust 32x8 modem using 100mbps with Spectrum. I have about 30 home devices, many of which are smart lights, and wireless home audio equipment. On the first day of use, I set it up and spent probably close to 8 hours trying to configure it properly to work with my Sonos system. After many challenges and browsing many Internet forums, I fortunately got it all figured out on that front. Then came the lights. I own approximately 7 Lifx Bulbs: these are great products but I never ever could get them to work properly on this device. They would constantly be kicked off or not function whatsoever; so I did the same thing, browsed on forums to try to get them up and running but once I found the fix it would be at the cost of a separate device in my home not working. All to say, if you own IoT or any kind of smart home products THIS IS NOT THE ROUTER FOR YOU. It does not play nice with Sonos, Google, or Lifx products. Everything must be preconfigured and unless you are a network technician good luck getting it up and running smoothly. I opted to go all in and buy an Eero + 2 beacons, a bit overkill for a small apartment but can sustain 30 devices and it has never, ever, had drop offs, dead spots, or failed connectivity. I am a fairly frugal person, and would say for this particular subject, go big or go home. Get yourself an Eero if you have a similar setup. It’s worth your investment.

Great reception and we love the app interface and parental controls. The integrated firewall systems and prioritization of devices work great. Only thing I don't like on the design is the front USB connection and the WPS button should be in the front for easy access.

It was time to upgrade our router with 4 video game consoles running off it plus all of our computers and smart phones. Best part about this is the additional piece to plug into the wall anywhere in your home to have the ability to have a hardwired connection. Needed that stability with my ps4 and the connection quality increased greatly.

I got this router just so that I can set up a secondary network at home that uses ExpressVPN settings at the router level so that anything connected to it wirelessly or direct utilizes the VPN account. ASUS makes it easy and very compatible with many VPN services.

All my wi-fi devices in my house work faster now, thanks!
