I was so excited to get this computer, but once I set it up it immediately started to overheat, to the point it shut itself down. It also shut down whenever I even touched a USB drive to a port. Even with external floor fans the temperature would go well above 85 degrees centigrade. Too hot!! If the computer operated as it should have I think it would have been a nice machine- but I had to return it.

    My second ASUS computer

I purchased a new ASUS computer because I had a great experience with my prior ASUS computer - it ran well, was reliable & lived 6 years. This new computer was defective - it made horrible noises intermittently. It sounded like a loud lawn mower was running outside my window, then there would be a loud, shrill sound like a power saw hitting metal. Best Buy took the computer back and exchanged it for a Lenovo which runs great,. Probably a one time fluke, but I'm going to stay away from ASUS for now. I would recommend ASUS to a friend, but not this model.

    Works Great So Far

Bought mine the day before yesterday. It was the last they had in stock, but there were more to come. I have NOT piddled around with it much at all, but I wanted to point out a couple things at least initially. First, I was looking for something to surf on and I knew that I didn't need a lot of hard drive space. I won't be downloading movies, but I might do music later. So, a 1 TB hard drive is ample for my purposes. I also wanted something that would handle more than one monitor.I also am very wary of anything with less than 8 GB of RAM. Most important was that I saw it has an AMD A10-7800 processor. I knew that it is fast because my Dell at work has the same processor. The specs on this site state 3.9 Ghz, but in reality it's more like 3.5 as the specs on the box states, if that makes any difference at all#. So, I hooked it up and waited for my free upgrade to Windows 10, but first I was prompted to install/update about 85 Windows 8.1 updates. I did install the updates because I felt I should. After all, it wouldn't hurt anything. After installing them and rebooting, I was prompted to upgrade to Windows 10. It took a long time so please be patient. When it completed and restarted #for the final time I logged on and it wanted to install 115 updates. I checked "yes" then went to bed. When I got up this morning to go to work, everything was done. I didn't have a lot of time, so I really haven't checked out all the difference between 8.1 and 10. But, so far the machine is fast and very quiet. I have had no issues. You can expect to piddle with it a bit while dloading/updating/upgrading. That's just the nature of the beast. It does have Bluetooth that is listed on the box but not the BB specs here.

    Kind of a starter kit

For the price, there are a decent number of great things about this box. Most noticeable for me was the inclusion of an HDMI port. For some reason, this was a rarity in the local store. It's also a very quiet machine. I'm using it for writing and gaming and haven't had any issue with most of the games in my Steam library (Just Cause 2, GTA IV, for comparison purposes). I am grabbing a second 8GB of RAM soon. The integrated graphics can take up a large chunk of the factory installed 8. At the moment, it will cost between 20 and 40 dollars for the upgrade, which is low enough to still make the initial purchase a good deal. This is a good, mid level starter box with limited extensibility (16GB RAM max, only one PCI express slot) that will more than handle the needs of anyone looking for simple web browsing, media streaming, or word processing.

    What a great computer!

I was debating on getting a new computer for some time now and came across this one on a four hour flash sale online for only $380 and I thought what great specs for the money! Even at full retail at the price of $500 it's still very much worth the money for what you get! This computer is running on an AMD A10 7800 Quad Core processor running at 3.5 Ghz which is amazingly fast. It also comes with 8 GB RAM (6.95 usable) which is good enough for multiple apps running at the same time. I had Groove Music, E-Mail, Word, Edge, Team Viewer, Anti Virus Scan while downloading a movie and the computer did not skip a beat or slow down. I even left everything open as I watched Netflix and Hulu and again no slow down. I really think that this machine could easily stack up against some of the gaming machines and perform quite well and you can upgrade the RAM to 16 GB if you're a heavy gamer or designer. It comes with Windows 8.1, but can easily upgrade to Windows 10 and it works very well on this machine! I would definitely recommend this computer if you are upgrading and want to save money. I was pleasantly surprised how much I got for a low price tag. Also, for those whoa re not sure about the brand Asus has been around for some time now and has definitely proven itself to be a quality computer!

    Solid general use computer

Had to replace a Lenovo H50 that lasted all of 2 months. That computer was trouble on day 1, but I attributed a lot of the problems to Windows 8.1. Got worse after upgrading to Windows 10, so cut my losses and bought the Asus. Could tell upon start-up that it was a better machine -- loaded everything fast and was ready to go in less than 10 minutes. Immediately installed Windows 10, and didn't have to manually update a single driver. The AMD onboard graphics processor is actually pretty decent for streaming video -- no frame drops or painfully long buffering (like the Lenovo#. I know the AMD chip set is their economy model, but it's way faster than the comparable Intel cpu #i3#. The power supply is 350W, which again trumps the Lenovo's 180W #!!) This is a great desktop for general home/light business applications. With only one PCIe slot, it's obviously not a gaming machine. The reviewer who bought this and then discovered there was only one slot didn't do his/her research, so I think it's safe to disregard that one star review. The other 1 star review mentioned having to pay to update drivers -- if you EVER need to update drivers, it's best to do it through Windows and not with a 3rd party software -- he probably got driver updates plus a whole bunch of maleware from that exercise. Bottom line: good desktop PC that will handle just about anything a general user can throw at it.

Booted and started to update ran fine through the night then when I rebooted the next morning it would not even post. Called asus and they wanted to charge for shipping to return and it would take weeks. Returned directly to local bestbuy and picked up a HP that day.

I recently received this Asus computer and so far I am liking it. The fan isn't loud, it was simple to upgrade to windows 10 for free, and it was quick to install everything. I will be using this for school as well as some gaming, such as, WoW and Sims. This already has wifi capability, so I'm not sure why someone said a wifi adapter is needed. Overall, I like it!

My Dell desktop was damaged during a move so I needed a PC fast to work. I went to the local Best Buy and picked this one up on sale. Mistake. The fan is so loud, like a jet engine. It suffers from constant lag doing simple tasks like loading web pages and graphics. It came with 8GB of memory, so I added more memory. Still poor performance. This PC is not even suitable for casual surfing and email the lag in performance is so bad. Now I have to purchase a new PC as this one is just not up to the task. Nearly $500 wasted.
