Great choice for someone who wants the speed but may not be too tech savvy. the router is easy to set up and the functions are pretty straight forward. It does have some advanced options you won't see in a router, but regardless this will give you the speeds you want without a headache.

Incredibly speed and range. I was upgrading from an Apple Time Capsule and this is obviously in a whole other league. I was contemplating a mesh set up but was glad I went with this. (You can add other Asus routers to create a Mesh). This easily covers my 2200 sq ft, two story house and every point on the 1/2 acre lot.

Wifi range is insane. Gaming port works like its supposed to. Running 1GB up n down on fiber and it handles it flawlessly. Lots of options in admin. Qos. Port forwarding. Everything is super simple. Not a bunch of mixed up options. Nicely oeganized in tabs. Doesnt overheat. Doesnt skip a beat. Perfect for gaming.

Best router I have ever owned. I had a Linksys WRT32X before which was a great router, but this has significantly better range and handles multiple devices better. The Asus Aimesh was a breeze to set up with another ASUS device, and the ASUS software is as easy to use as you'd like it to be or as technical as you'd like.

I may be jumping the gun writing a review as I've only had this router about 24 hours but so far it does live up to expectations. I did performance tests with different devices around the house with my previous router and this new one is providing much quicker connections and better range. My one problem was that the pc I use for gaming that was hardwired to the router saw a massive performance decrease when I first setup. I tried wireless and saw the same slowness for that device. I played with all the settings and did numerous disconnections/reconnections/reboots which did nothing. I then went out and upgraded the drivers for my networking adapter as well as bringing my bios up to current. Once I did that my issues were resolved and the connection was lighting fast. Posting the review earlier than I normally would to mention that in case anyone else sees poor performance as the solution may simply be updating drivers as it was with me. Also mentioning this to encourage people to run a speed tests before and after installing the new router to pick up on any issues from devices running older drivers.

Upgraded from a 68U (AC), which lasted me a very long time... Figured this was a good updated replacement, and it hasn't disappointed. Love the built in security, speed, coverage, and app support it's a beast and worth every penny, expect this to last 5+ years if it follows it's predecessors footsteps.

Bought this to replace a Netgear router that was not connecting consistently and dropping out coverage. This router rocks! Wifi is fast and I can connect anywhere in the house. My Xbox series X connects fast and the NAT is always open. No frame rate drops. I cannot recommend this one enough, especially for gaming.

amazing router. have owned two other asus routers under $200 and they are slow and sluggish. after research this 86U was the clear winner.. am able to handle 20+ devices seamlessly with amazing range. this works better than my two 56U's in AI-mesh

Came from a TP-Link Deco M9 Plus. The mesh systems were just OK. The coverage was great but the performance left more to be desired. I ended up getting my older home hardwired with Cat6 drops and went wit this router. It's reliable (never had a drop) and consistent with its speed. No complaints.

GREAT router! I can say nothing bad about this router at all. I get 325mbps with my ISP.. My previous Netgear router I would get the the 325 via ethernet connection, no problem. But my Wifi I would only get around 80 to 90mbps. When I hooked up this ASUS router I get 325 on Ethernet and 325 on my home WifI; no difference at all being wired or not. The only thing I do not get the 325 on is my Sony TV which is about 200mbps. I assume it is just the TV not capable. On everything else--iphones, iPads, Alexa, etc I get the full 325mbps. That is what is so amazing about this router. I always assumed that you would always get less mbps via Wifi but this router proved me wrong. Another plus is the website for the router is easy to use and has a lot of information. You can sign in to your website for the router and make changes very easily and it even has a gaming mode for gamers. Very easy user interface. I highly recommend this router.

I purchased this to replace my RT-AC68U (which doesn’t support WI-FI 6 / WPA3). Setup was straight forward, clean UI, nice features, and customizable config. Range and speed have improved significantly and connecting to my Ai Mesh nodes was quick and easy.

After much research I decided on the rtax86u and I am very pleased with the speed and range of this router and it doesn't break the bank. I ordered from best buy because my usual supplier was out of stock. I am impressed with the communication and the quickness that I received the order.

Solid performance, much better coverage than Netgear equivalent. Connected to Motorola do sis 3.1 via 2.5 Gbit Ethernet wan port gets solid 400 mbira service throughout a 2500 sqft home via Xfinity cable provider. Use one of the USB port for tethering on cellular 4G network.
