Not what I expected, very slow.

Do understand your disappointment if you are experiencing slow system speed or performance with the laptop.
Certainly, the unit was designed as an entry-level computer that runs basic and light computing applications like web-surfing, emailing and word-processing without compromising system stability and performance. This issue is temporary during the initial WINDOWS setup and before installing cumulative WINDOWS Update, regardless what brand name of computer this may be. This may take a longer time depending on the network traffic from the update server and the stability of your high-speed internet service. Also, laptop will do several system reboot, black screen temporarily or restart during the update process. Once initial setup and WINDOWS Update installation completed, system speed or performance will be optimized.
In order to maintain optimum system stability and performance, cumulative WINDOWS Update needs to be installed periodically. If you are accessing web applications, please make sure the unit has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since this will definitely affect system speed and performance. Also, clearing internet cache or browsing history will improve system performance.

Small Hard Drive. Stopped working after a month

He installed Fortnite and the drive was then 90% full after that and Windows Update. Then it stopped working after 3-4 weeks. Wouldn't even turn on.

Initially, there is an ample amount of storage space in order to run WINDOWS and popular software or applications efficiently. However, since cumulative WINDOWS Update is being released periodically, additional third-party software being installed, and the OS file size becoming bigger with files being added, the space available may be limited. This can easily be resolved by using a memory card for saving documents, photos or videos, and for installing third-party applications. The C drive will be mainly use for WINDOWS Update installation. For detailed instruction on how to do this, please go visit Microsoft's Knowledge Base.
If the laptop will no longer boot up or it's just black screen, please do the following.
Verify if the AC adapter is connected properly from the laptop to a known good power outlet or AC source. Try another power source.
Try to press and hold down the power button to shut it down completely, just in case laptop is not in hibernate mode, wait for at least 10 seconds then power on. Please wait, if the system is applying updates in the System Registry, it will black screen temporarily. If it still black screen after a few minutes, at least 10 minutes, please repeat the power cycle process again.
Also, please try to disconnect the power cable and let the unit drain for 24 hours to clear the memory. This will reset the hardware to default settings. After doing this, please reconnect your AC adapter then power on the unit.

Used Once and Broken

All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, verical lines showing up on the screen is a random problem.
To resolve the issue with the screen, please try to install all cumulative WINDOWS update. Also, please try to connect the laptop to another known good power source or AC outlet and away from electronic or electrical devices that maybe generating excessive electrical or RF noise.
Uncleaned power source or faulty electrical or electronic device that is generating excessive electrical noise can disturb static-sensitive devices or components in the laptop that may cause distortion on the screen.
If the troubleshooting steps were performed to no avail, we recommend sending the laptop in for service. Normally, ASUS provides one year warranty coverage, if product was purchased brand-new, in order to fix or repair any hardware or, part that stop working prematurely under normal usage.

Waste of money

It died after three weeks.

Do understand your dissatisfaction with the product if it will no longer bootup normally in WINDOWS.
Please try to disconnect any external devices and do a power cycle a couple of times. If problem persisted, please do a PC Reset.
If PC Reset didn't work in order to resolve the issue, you can do a factory restore using a Recovery Media. If you were not able to create one, you can use the Media Creation tool to create one. The tool and the ISO image for WINDOWS is available and can be downloaded at the Microsoft website.
You can use a memory card or an external USB device to create the recovery image. In order to maintain optimum system stability and performance, cumulative WINDOWS Update needs to be installed periodically.

Normally, ASUS provides one year warranty coverage, if product was purchased brand-new, in order to fix or repair any hardware or, part that stop working prematurely under normal usage.
The system crashing is possibly a Windows related issue if updates were not installed. After initial Windows setup, all feature or cumulative Windows Update needs to be installed before running any applications or before accessing the web.

Does well for the price

I did some research prior to purchasing and found that It's not the fastest but it's definitely faster than a lot of other models in this price range. Also really well designed, lightweight, completely silent as well.

Great Laptop

The Intel m3-8100y processor is on par with many i5. The drawback is that its got 4GB RAM and its soldered in. The plus side is that if you want a nice solid laptop built well that runs Linux then go for this one. Ubuntu Linux runs like a dream and everything is detected right away. Solid laptop great features. If you are looking for a low end that performs more than this is it.

If the laptop freezes up in the BIOS page, please try to do a power cycle. Shut it down completely and disconnect any external devices, if any, wait for at least 10 second then do a system restart or reboot. While laptop is rebooting, keep tapping "F2" to get into the BIOS page and load default settings. Make sure to save changes before exiting.

To resolve the issue, please verify if the laptop is within range to an established wireless router or access point and internet service is working properly. Also, please verify if the unit is running with the most current system update.
You may also need to go in the Device Manager, Network adapters, click on the Wireless LAN then click on the Power Management tab, unchecked the boxes and click the "OK" button to save the changes.
