Best N ROUTER for Range, Speed, and Easy Set-Up.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I was looking for something that was more powerful and had better range then Actiontech Router MI424WR Gen 3. The problem I had with that router is that max link speed on N was 130 MBPS. Further more where I live there's over 30 wifi connections within range so interference is a big issue. Changing channels just wasn't enough. In order to make this work I had to purchase a Ethernet over Coax adapter to use with my service. Reason being is that with FiOS their router does a lot behind the scenes for their cable boxes to get guide, on demand and such. This works with FiOS you might want to check with your provider to see if it works. Adapter I used was Actiontec EC2200 with a 2 way splitter to still connect my cable box. Having speeds of 75/35 this setup could not have been any better. Asus router immediately recognized an ip conflict and corrected itself. It allowed me to set it up as an access point shortly after. On wireless 2.4 I'm getting range and speed of 72 MBPS on MHz 20 channel. Link speeds is about 217MBPS. I COULD USE MHZ 40 but not all devices support it on 2.4. On 5.0 I'm getting fantastic speeds as well as range. Link speeds is 450MBPS with no problem transferring files or downloading. Overall router has a lot of options which is great if you like you optimize your wireless such as TX power for antenna, beacon interval and such. But it also has a quick wizard to let the router do it all for you. This Asus router exceed my expectations and it's running really well with MOCA bridge on my FiOS at home. In addition to allowing me to hardwire my tivo, smart TV, ps3 in ,living room.

Great Router with some qwerks
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.got this for my cabin and needed some extra range for my outdoor cams. the speed is awesome. however, upon setup the default 192.168.1.1 needed to be changed between my 2.4 and 5 Ghz channels as my tablet and web cams did not seem to register on the network. I changed the 2.4 gig channel to 192.168.10.1 (vs, 1,1) and all my devices worked fine--Its easy to do on the setup screens. Overall, the performance is great and with a little know how you can scream on this thing. I also like that you can disable WPS (Its hackable so turn it off). also if you fancy i think you can DDWRT it and have more customized options/security--I will do that later if possible. Overall this is a great little router.

Made the right choice
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have purchased WRT-54G from other brand name about 8-9 years ago and has served me well. I had to reset it only 4 times when it dropped the connection; I wanted to replace it with something that was more up to date and able to handle my 50+MBps cable internet through out my house. I was set to purchase more expensive unit that has ac standard, but after thinking, I figured I will try n-standard router and if it does not do the job I will jump on ac model (AC-66R). I was really really surprised. Right out of the box, it asked me to upgrade firmware - I did the upgrade, set my networks, overall very easy steps to follow. After all plugged all of my stuff in and here are the results: I have Comcast Blast 50MBps service and with only modem and on ethernet connection I was getting about 57-58. I configured all needed and connected to 2.4 GHz wifi network wirelessly, and tested the speed. 57MBps when about 5ft away from it... I walked all the way into the corner of my house, away from the router, and tested it again... 56-57MBps... Honestly, this router is ALL YOU NEED! None of my online-connected devices are ac compatible so I really did not find it important for me to purchase a router I won't be able to use to it's full extent. I am really happy for now and amazed how much of a quality product this is. We will see how it goes on longer run, in the months and years to come - I will definitely come back and post updated review if something changes. My advice: You do not need AC router just yet - unless you have all your stuff in ac compatible option... which I highly doubt :)

Best Router Ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After multiple Netgear issues over the years, decided to try something different. I have found this to be simply the best wireless router I've ever owned. Both 2.4g and 5g bands are very strong, solid and steady throughout the house. Because we have Fios it is necessary to use their router as the primary due to the MoCa decoding it provides for set top boxes and phone service. I had to turn off the Fios (Actiontec) router wireless and connect the Asus with a LAN to WAN ethernet patch. The Actiontec continues to handle the phone service and two set top boxes. It also services a TIVO and two Sony Blu-ray players connected to the web for Netflix streaming, To accomplish this I installed separate Actiontec MoCa (coax to ethernet adapters) which gives the TIVO and the Sony Blu-ray players blazing FIOS wired LAN speed. Netflix and any other streaming service is simply astounding when hooked up in this manner. Again, the Fios router serves as primary to handle all MoCa necessary functions and essentially serves as a "modem" for the Asus router which creates a subnet to handle two wired desktop computers and all dual band WiFi for the plethora of laptops, gaming platforms and smart phones that a family of 4 uses. The Asus also has the capability to create 3 secure guest accounts per band (that cannot access the local intranet) which is very helpful when hordes of teenagers game into the wee hours. You must update the firmware that ships with the Asus as it is quite hinky. Fortunately, the firmware is open source which enables router geeks worldwide to put in their two cents worth and provides for many quality updates and fine tuning. Once you get this router up and running you'll wonder why you ever owned anything else.

Fantastic Router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router is replacing my already good, but aging, Asus n56u. The signal strength on this router blows my old one out of the router. I live on a quarter acre lot and I get pretty much full strength anywhere in the house and outside it anywhere in the yard. It is very simple to set up, and support separate 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz ssid's and up to 6 guest networks. I highly recommend this router to anyone. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have if you post a comment :)

This is a great router!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best router you can get for your money for a N router. It is fast and great range I can pick up signal when im at my neighbor's house. I get around 20+ Mbps on 2.4ghz and on 5 ghz around 28+Mbps. The 2.4ghz gets better ping and range. This router is way faster than my old belkin its double the speed. Very easy setup

A big step up from 802.11g service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got tired of only running at 6-8Mb download speeds when my Comcast service was feeding me 60Mb, so I installed this router. It's perfect for us. We have several g-speed appliances while my desktop is n-compliant. Now I'm getting nearly 40Mb download on it while simoultaneously serving my older g-speed tools. Setup was easier than my old g-wireless router, so I have nothing bad to say about this purchase. Should have done it a long time ago!

Great speed and signal improvement!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this (along with cable modem) to replace a Comcast Wireless Gateway. We were having slow throughput and weak signal problems with the Comcast provided wireless router. After doing some research I decided to purchase the Asus RT-N66R. Great decision! This thing is awesome. Setup was very easy and pain free. Now we have no weak signal issues and have 4X the throughput speeds in the areas we were having trouble, which is amazing. No more problems streaming video over wireless. 5Ghz channel has better throughput, but 2.4Ghz is no slouch either. Typically you get better range with 2.4Ghz, but this was not an issue since it is being used in a condo that is about 1100 sq ft and provides an excellent signal strength in all areas. We are getting 40-50 Mbps now in the areas we were previously having trouble using the Comcast wireless router. If your device supports 5Ghz (some of ours do not), I am getting 60-70 Mbps. The Asus RT-N66R should make a big improvement If you're having problems with a weak signal or slow throughput speeds. I also did comparison testing with an older Cisco EA3500 wireless router that I used in the past. I found that I was only getting about 5-6 Mbps in the "weak" areas. I then connected the Asus RT-N66R in the same location, which resulted in 30Mbps. Huge improvement! Long story short, this wireless router is awesome. This is a great wireless router if you don't want to spend the extra money for an 802.11AC version or don't have devices that support AC band. I would definitely recommend this to a friend!

Best Consumer Router!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used Linksys & Netgear routers for over 15 years. In the last 5-10 years their quality and reliability has gotten worse and worse. I originally bought the Linksys EA3500-NP router, every time I would enable the 5GHz band my legacy WiFi devices would loose network connectiviety. Linksys's solution, "Just Disable 5GHz band" **Then why have a Dual Band router!?!?**. Anyway! I bought this router instead **This is actually the router I wanted to buy in the first place but my local BestBuy didn't stock it, I ended up going to a BestBuy in a bigger town which stocked it!**. Took me about 2 minutes and I had the router up and running on all 8 cylinders! It's Super fast, extremely reliable, and it has external antenna's *Which are MUCH better than Internal antenna's*. I don't have anything bad to say about this router. The web interface may be a bit difficult for a non-tech savvy person, but for the most part, I'm pretty sure most anyone could figure it out.

Definitely Worth it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 5 and 2.4 bands are up and kicking and registering speeds higher than we're actually supposed to be getting... While I am curious as to what that's all about, I'm not complaining! Install is very straight forward and easy and setup of the networks is even faster. It takes quite possibly less than a minute after boot up to have a router that is completely functional and broadcasting 2 healthy networks. I have nothing but good things to say about this router: nice aesthetics, useful LED indicators ( not too bright like some) , great broadcasting range, solid signal, super easy user interface, etc. Well worth the purchase.

Excellent router, but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start out with the good: This router is the fastest, most powerful wireless router I've ever own. And the range is excellent! I live in a 4500sqft, two story house, where there seem to be wireless devices all over the place. This router allows us to use the 'net on all devices, without the two powerline range extenders we had been using previously (which is great, seeing as how their performance was spotty at times). Using an "Up to 50Mbps" Xfinity (Comcast) connection, it isn't uncommon for us to see speeds over 45Mbps according to Speedtest.net. This is outstanding, no complaints here. However, the router is NOT perfect. I'm guessing the problems I'm dealing with are software related, but they are there. The AiCloud function has yet to successfully work outside my home. This supposedly allows the user to plug in a hard-drive to the back of the router, and access the contents from anywhere, any network via the AiCloud app. Well, it all works fine while my phone is connected to the router. But once I leave the house....nothing. At first, I had assumed I was setting it up incorrectly. So, I called and online-chatted to Asus, and I must say, they must have the worst tech support EVER!!! On multiple occasions, the support rep would bounce around the topic completely or "accidentally" cut me off when he couldn't figure out the problem. In addition, registering for an asuscomm.com ddns server was never successful, regardless of my user address. The ability to access my data (movies, music, pics) was a major reason I purchased the router, and to not have that feature operational is a real negative for me. I'm aware I might be able to bypass the software issues by installing a custom piece of firmware, but I'm the type that doesn't believe in voiding my warranty due to a manufacturer's error. All in all, I would recommend this router to anyone in a large, multi-level home, or those that are just looking for a significant speed increase. It works great for those reasons. But, if you're looking for advanced features (like AiCloud or AiDisk), please don't buy this thinking they'll work correctly.
