Great product....not user friendly
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been a linksys fan since I've known about routers 14 years ago. I've noticed linksys been cutting back their product warranty from 3 years down to 1 year. My last linksys WRT54GL router lasted for 6 years and it started to have dropped connections intermittently. So I decided it's time to find another router to try out since linksys doesn't believe in their product anymore. I came across this Asus RT-N66R with a two year warranty, which is also another company I've been loyal since the beginning. I've had the router for a month now with no issues, of course, after all the setting in the router. I wouldn't recommend this router if you're not tech savvy.

Works great after firmware upgrade
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upon receipt, LAN ports were dead. Applied the firmware update recommended during the installation, still dead. There were other updates available on the Asus website but I applied the latest Merlin firmware upgrade instead. After that, LAN ports work fine. Asus needs to fix this but I won't knock a star off as it does work well once the firmware is updated. Note - IPv6 with SB6141 cable modem on comcast works great which was the primary motivation for purchasing this router.

Good product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While I initially went searching for the Asus 1750 model I have been satisfied with the N900 it was easy to set up and had the features I required.

Excellent wireless/wired router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted a router with great WiFi signal and fast throughput. I have a large home and even bought an ASUS extender (EA-N66R) to ensure even WiFi throughout my house. Both installed very easily and connected quickly. Signal strength is great and LAN connectivity is equally fast. My only issue is the client display; it primarily displays Mac addresses, instead of the type hardware, and even dropped off to just displaying the extender, even though everythng continues to work great.

I haven't touched it in 4 weeks
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I initially purchased the D-Link DIR-632 since it had 8 ports. I need 5 LAN ports, and most have 4. It worked for the 1st 3 days, but after that, I was rebooting every 2-3 hours due to lost wireless signal. After researching, I found the RT-N66R had the best reviews. It is 3 times the price of the other router, but it is totally worth every penny! I purchased and set it up on 8/22. I haven't touched it since. The wireless signal is constant and reliable.

Outstanding router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router is awesome. I have had it for 2 months and it refuses to drop connection to any of our phones, tablets, laptops, or printers. The 2 USB ports are nice for network storage & streaming, I just wish they were 3.0 (you get that with the AC model). The web interface is very fast, I only wish it had a mac client table import function, but that is a super minor complaint. It replaced a Linksys WRT120N that got intorduced to Mr. Bench Vise.

Stopped working after 35 days
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I feel like a moron buying this after reading numerous reviews on another site I trust that all basically say it dies within a few months. I thought well it has the features I want and the reviews on best buy are great so maybe I'll be fine. Nope its dead after 35 days, no lights at all except for the power brick lights up. Hitting or holding reset for any amount of time will make it light up. No burnt smell. Power switch does nothing. I have no kids or animals and its out of harms way and is never touched. I'm very technically advanced as I work in the electronic field tearing down and repairing all types of electronic equipment. If it wasn't for the warranty and the awful rma process I'm going to have to go through now I'd take it apart myself but that'd probably be futile as its more than likely the chipset that's dead. Oh and if its heat that was its demise it was poorly engineered as my house has central air that is never turned off as the wife stays home to take care the house.

Awesome features and powerful interface
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had my router for 5-6 months now and have zero complaints. The features are many, and all are pretty straight forward to set up. The UI web interface is intuitive and makes changing/checking settings easy. It covers my ~1000 sq ft apartment under the 2.4GHz band easily, the 9GHz, not so much, but there are around 100 networks within my range.

Average at Best
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this to replace previous router that I had for many years. Was told by sales rep that this router would give great reception for PS3 game systems. Called ASUS twice about poor connection issues. Was told that it was because I had an old house with too much wall interference. They sent me link to download....still didn't help. Pretty disappointed that I upgraded for nothing.

No better than routers half the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is a great router. It get's a great signal, and great data transfer rates. However it is no better than routers that are a lot cheaper. Compared to my netgear N600 it actually has a worse 2.4ghz signal and range, and the 5.0 was exactly the same signal and range. Data transfer rates were identical. If you are upgrading from an old router you should see a nice difference, however compared to other new routers this is nothing more than an extra $50 worth of marketing hype that does nothing in terms of real life performance. Overall: It is an average router with a ridiculous amount of useless marketing hype. The majority of people with 5 star reviews would not notice the difference if they swapped it out for a cheaper router. Way overpriced compared to other units on the market that offer identical real life performance.

Very Bad Experience Compared to Netgear
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I know a lot of people raved about this router, that's why I originally bought it. Let me preface here that I'm not a computer nerd, but I can hold my own for the most part when it comes to electronics and computers. From the initial connection I had issues. It just wouldn't connect. And I had frequent random drops when connecting devices wirelessly, which was never a problem before. Then, one night our cable internet went out. Service was restored by the next morning, but I couldn't get the router to reconnect. I called Asus customer service and they answered relatively fast (after the first call was disconnected). However, the tech I spoke with was a moron. All he seemed to want to do was check my cables. I finally gave up and returned the router. Bought a Netgear ACT Router for $20 more than this one. Couldn't be happier. The Asus router was just junk!

Great...at first.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Replaced a Linksys E4200 with this right before xmas (we all know what happened to them when cisco took control) and it performed like a champ right out of the box. Fast forward 4 months later, dropping wireless connections on occasion. After 5 months, it drops them regularly for a few minutes at a time. Now it won't take a LAN connection. I had read that heat is a major issue with these so it ran from day 1 while sitting on top of an Antec notebook cooler. It still crapped out...

Good speed but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Seems to carry good speeds but seems to hang up quite a bit. Could be an issue with my location. I would recommend trying it at the very least!! I will be exchanging for another Asus router that's for sure.

Very Disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this router after a week or so of looking at reviews on sites including Best Buy and CNET. Both sites gave this router great reviews. The specs and ASUS's reputation, made me feel like I was getting a great product for a good price. After getting it setup, I was able to get online but I noticed that devices such as my PS3, smartphone, etc were streaming videos extremely slow. I thought maybe there was something going on with the router, so I rebooted it. Still slow speeds around 1 mbps. I decided to test the 5 ghz radio instead and was getting around 28 mbps. I know that 5 ghz should be faster anyway but 1 mbps from the 2.4 ghz is unacceptable. Since I narrowed it down to the 2.4 ghz radio, I decided to see if there was an firmware update. There was and I updated successfully. Once I rebooted, I was back online but still only 1-2 mbps. I checked with ASUS support online. The rep was helpful and had me factory reset the router to see if maybe something was stuck in the firmware. After the factory reset, we tested and.... still 1 mbps! The rep was at a loss for suggestions and decided to recommend that the issue was hardware related and that I should return the unit to Best Buy. I returned the unit to Best Buy and exchanged it for the same router, hoping to get better results. Got it home and.... you guessed it.... still 1 mbps! This is definitely and issue with the 2.4 ghz radio, whether it be firmware or hardware. After further digging on forums, I found people reporting the same issue with no resolution. ASUS needs to look into this issue and find out what is causing this problem with their flagship router. I was sad that I was not able to use ASUS's flagship router and decided to go with a Linksys equivalent. No problems whatsoever so far.

Excellent Router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Probably the best router I have owned. Recently upgraded and still use this as an AP. Recommend using Merlin firmware if you want to delve into the settings more.
