    Best Budget Gaming Laptop

Asus has outdone themselves with this laptop. There are so many gaming laptops to pick from, and I believe this is the king of budget gaming laptops. For the price, it achieves everything you would expect. The screen is buttery smooth. Most games are playable at high settings with no lag. Going beyond 60fps may be a stretch for some games. I played games like Sea of Thieves, Grand Theft Auto, and State of Decay with no problems whatsoever. Something to note is how thin and light it is. Compared to other gaming laptops it is significantly thinner and lighter. Also worth noting is that the bezel is crazy thin. The Dolby Atmos speakers are louder than the majority of laptops you'll come across. I was worried that the keyboard would get hot during long sessions. It does not. With the ASUS ROG software, you can customize the performance of the laptop. The GPU performance could be cranked up or the fans can be silenced for example. The colors and pattern of the RGB keyboard are also adjusted here. This software will be crucial to get the most out of your battery. The battery averages about 4 hours which is pretty solid. This particular model only includes 500GB of storage which is low for a gaming laptop. However, ASUS included an M2 slot which is a great addition. A laptop of this size should have a full-sized SD card and not a MicroSD. For the most part, the cards I use daily are MicroSD. However, I shouldn't have to buy a dongle for the time where I don't.  Overall I think this is the best budget gaming laptop there is. For competitive gamers, they'll either go for a higher spec or a desktop build. Content Creators will fit in the above category also. For most folks, this will be just fine. A gaming laptop that will run every game in great detail smoothly. For most people, that's all they'll need.

ASUS ROG M16 Screen was flat out DEAD right out of the box. Backlight was either defective or not connected. PC booted to Windows ok, cause I could hear Cortana saying we need to do some initial setup, but screen was a totally black void. Returned back to BB - they were able to do an exchange for me. Ended up getting a Lenovo Legion for about same price. Much happier with the Lenovo (typing this review on it now) Kudos to BestBuy for the excellent response to my problem. Not too impressed with ASUS though...

This is a highly capable gaming laptop with a lot of frills. Right off the bat, the packaging itself screams of high quality. I was never into unboxing, but this was a treat. When you open the box flap, the laptop angles upwards to present itself as if to welcome you with open arms (if it had arms). Upon turning it on for the first time, I was welcomed with a gamut of flashing colors on the keyboard as if to boast of the power about to be unleashed…not much different than a peacock bragging about their sprawled wings. Regarding the screen, I am very impressed with the array of bright colors that it emits. I will admit, I was a bit thrown off by the somewhat squared display as I am used to a widescreen style. Onto the important aspect of any gaming setup…actual gaming abilities. My main game to go to is Call of Duty Warfare. I have no issue running the game as everything looks great and runs smooth. Some other games I have tried with no problem were Roblox and Rocket League. Also, I want to mention this is VR Ready. I personally use an Oculus Quest to play Rift games. Overall, I have no complaints really. This is a great machine.

This has some kind of power issues. The first one I bought would have weird power issues and then one day it just died. Flat out died, would not charge at all. Replacement was ok but then just died as well. Very poor laptop. I have a decade old Asus RoG that I absolutely loved so I don’t know what happened to the quality of their laptops. Do not buy.

I was really excited about my new gaming laptop, but after being out of the box less than a day it’s already a huge disappointment. Something is wrong with the WiFi driver. After following the troubleshooting directions during a restart it gave me a blue screen with a frowny face. If it’s this difficult to use after less than 24 out of the box, no thanks. I love this thing! Coming from a bulky gaming laptop that was ~3 years old, this thing is 2 lb lighter, larger screen, way faster, and has great aesthetics. For my use, I've been really impressed by the battery life too. Not exactly MacBook Pro life, but not too far off depending what programs you are running on it. It's about the same size as a MBP as well which is amazing still for a gamer laptop. Plenty of ports for connections and no crashes or issues yet. ASUS software allows for various color schemes and so on. Really powerful and smooth for my Steam games and some engineering CAD apps as well. GET IT!!!

      Dear Dylan,

We do understand your disappointment and the inconvenience if you are experiencing slow system stability or performance issue with the laptop.

Keeping Windows, BIOS, drivers and applicaitons updated will maintain optimum system stability and performance. If these steps were already performed to no avail, please try to run a diagnostics or optimization test using the "My ASUS" utility software or application. If this is not pre-installed on the laptop, please download the application at the Microsoft Store. For details on how to use "My ASUS", please go to: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1041686/. While accessing web applications, please ensure the laptop has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since this will definitely affect system speed and performance. Also, if third-party applications were installed, verify if these are fully Windows compliant software and are running with the most current update.

If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I would be happy to help. Or, you are most welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent at: http://bit.ly/AsusLiveChat.

This laptop is a beautiful piece of machinery. It's slim, lightweight, and opens/closes smoothly. It's powerful. Fast to start up with the SSD and 16GB RAM is enough to run all my games on med/high settings. I had no lag, no blurring. I love the Armoury Crate for all the options, settings, and system info I could want. Light sync lets you sync to compatible devices for a very nice light show. Configure the screen for gaming, streaming movies or web surfing easily with the presets. The con is that it runs too hot. This laptop is not for the lap. Once the fans kicked on, the heat was wild and it stayed that way until I backed out of my games. They did keep the system cooled as they should, but I had to lay the laptop over on the screen side fearing damage to the tabletop I had it on. I did have it hooked up to a larger monitor and I play with a controller so was able to still play for a bit until the noise got to me. I was very glad I didn't have it on my lap. This is not my first or only gaming laptop, but my others will work the fans without throwing heat like that from my games. I did not have it in turbo mode. So I will have to be cautious about where I set it when playing, but more likely I won't use it for gaming at all, unfortunately. I also wish it had a number pad to use when not gaming.

In looking for an upgrade for my current laptop I wanted to focus on something with true gaming credentials on the hardware side and a brand I had experience with as a customer. I’ve had a few Asus products over the years and always had great experiences. This unit checked all the boxes from the beautiful 16” end to end display to the solid dedicated graphics performance one needs for gaming. I’m not one to spend a ton of time away from my desk, especially these days, but I wanted a computer that would keep me playing if I want to travel. The Asus does not disappoint in any aspect of performance other than battery life, and that’s why I had to take it down a star. Games from Steam and the Xbox game pass play smoothly and with good detail. Even Flight Simulator which is a resource grabber looked pretty sharp on here, and that’s the best I could hope for coming from the desktop. Battery life takes a hit though when you’re running full force and it is something you will have to consider when you travel. I found it a bit disappointing but I’m sure you can dial back a couple settings and make it stretch. It’s also a heavier unit - solidly built and you get a good sense of quality. Just don’t confuse it for one of the ultraportable units that are common these days. Your thighs will know the difference if you rest it there while playing. Overall this is a great unit and I’d recommend it to anyone trying to get a good gaming experience on the go.

This slim and lightweight laptop catches your eye with its rainbow of metallic colors built into the black cover and its colorful rotating color backlit keyboard. The power button has a built in fingerprint reader to unlock windows and I noticed that some users have commented that is can be hard to use, but I found that having multiple fingers set up does the trick for me as I move on to the next if it didn't quite read the first finger I used to unlock. There is a soft rubber like texture to the keyboard that does show the oil from your fingers, but otherwise adds to the look and great feel of the laptop. The hard drive is small at only 500GB and is probably my only complaint. Games quickly take up that space and leave little room for anything else. Being a solid state though with the i7 does make turning it on as fast as turning on your tv! The gameplay is fantastic. The bright display with the NVIDIA RTX3050Ti graphics card make the games pop and perform very well. The fan kicks into high gear to keep things cool while playing but is pretty standard with a gaming laptop of this much horsepower. If you are playing with your headset on, the fan noise is non existent and when you are doing anything else besides gaming, the fan is as quiet as can be. It has several USB ports to hook up your controller and also an HDMI to hook up to a larger monitor along with a thunderbolt port for connecting an external drive. Overall, I give this laptop 5 stars for its excellent gaming performance while being stylish.

Generally talking, this is a good ASUS ROG. Some people might not like the soft plastic touch but this is what gives it the “premium” look. It was my first good impression when unboxing it. The laptop has a very nice look with gaming’s oriented design. Asus gave this ROG a very nice shell touch with lights and reflexions. Finger print sensor is well made and nicely hidden in the power button and it works well every time. The keyboard has a very good layout with nice keys travel. Touchpad is very accurate and large (larger than mostly needed) and it can be very useful when doing some design works. Intel i7 is running very well with the out-of-the-box setup (Solid State Drive, Ram, Nvidia Graphics …) the laptop boots fast with nicely animated logo. Battery life is not the best (around 4~6 hours) depending on what you are doing. Battery life can be extended when properly adapting the laptop resources. Asus gives you the good tool to do that using the "Armoury Crate" easy shortcut button. This laptop is loaded with connectivity options: USB-C, USB, Ethernet, HDMI, Headphone jack and even Micro SD card reader…) not bad at all. It lacks the full SD card reader but I don’t think it really matters as it became obsolete. Micro SD is taking over. Camera quality is very good. More than what you need for work from home tasks: Zoom, meetings, any video conferences... Laptop speakers and microphones work just fine. The fans can be noisy sometimes but you can adjust/fix their speed from the Crate. Win10 works well on this laptop. Usually I face a lot of issues when setting up a new laptop. With this Asus, all the drivers are properly installed and working just fine from the beginning I’d really recommend this laptop if you are looking for a gaming machine. It is loaded with nice features, well designed and strongly built. I’ve been using this laptop for a while now. I use it for some video editing, gaming and just every daily tasks. It is holding very well.

I would recommend this to a friend
