I had this router for a couple weeks before I decided to write my opinion on it, because it was so new at the time, and because it takes quite a bit of planning to make adjustments to my network. After some configuration changes, firmware updates, and an ISP change I have settled in with this ROG router and am happy with it. Is it for everyone? No. Does it shine a light on great things to come? Yes. The first thing you notice with this router is the size. It's thick, the antennas add a significant additional wow or what factor, and it's heavy - about 5 pounds. With antennas on it, you need almost 8" in height clearance, and almost 16" square. It's not tiny. The LEDs on it add an interesting effect to it and if you're into the "RGB for all the things" this will fit in nicely. For me it's just an interesting effect to show off to guests, and then put away after. For background: prior to this addition I had 3 Asus AC68P routers configured with AI mesh utilizing an ethernet backhaul with each unit placed triangularly about 30 feet from each other through multiple floors. I had full coverage inside, with about a 100-150ft radius outside. My speeds at any given point were 450Mbps-960Mbps, with little interference on the 5Ghz and minor interference on 2.4Ghz from some equipment and neighbors. I added this AX11000 router in 3 stages to test a couple configurations and find what worked best. I could write a huge article on how many configurations I tested and how everything worked out, but I'll limit it to what it's at now. Currently, this AX11000 runs as the parent node in my configuration, managing 2 AC68Ps set up in the same triangular pattern. Doing this manages all the features of the AC68s, while still providing the throughput and range increases, and new features the AX11000 supports, but only for devices that connect to the parent and support those same features. This setup, and when set up as a single router were the 2 best configurations, with similar speeds and range increases. In a 2600-2800sq/ft multi-level house, this provided full coverage, and the exterior coverage was about doubled to around 300ft. I had some firmware and connection stability issues right out of the box, when loaded, but updates seem to have resolved those. Setup on this is a little flashier than my AC68s but the interface is pretty similar, sporting an updated ROG stylized interface, with fancier graphics and new management screens for the RGB and gaming features. Ignoring the graphics of the UI, the buttons and layout is pretty familiar and easy to get used to if you're familiar with other Asus routers. I upgraded my primary laptop with an Intel AX wireless 2x2 chip, and it carries higher throughput and priority on my network when connected to the parent. It's noticeable when running internal and external speed tests. External speed is very dependent on your ISP, but my Gigabit Fiber connection holds speeds of 960ish pretty solidly directly through this router, both up and down. Internally I have managed greater than 1000Mbps many times, which is significantly increased over my AC68s. That said, I have few devices that can attain that. On the negatives, the mesh configuration allows the routers to manage which device you connect to for optimal speed and stability, but I have run into a couple times when the signals overlap too much and my device has been bounced around or just been dropped. It's not often, but it's annoying. I also used the USB 3 port on it for a bit, but had some occasional issues with the External HD plugged in becoming unreachable. I experienced this with my AC68s as well, so it's not surprising, and it's not a loss on my network, but it would be nice to see that stabilized. Additionally, the 2.5Gig port is a really nice addition, and when the parent is located near a device that can use it, it's a great feature to have. However, I'd love to see more ports to support multiple 2.5Gig connections, and I consider this addition more of a preview of things to come. Overall, this router performs extremely well, with a few minor nuances that are correctable with firmware upgrades. That said, it's not for everyone, but it could be great for anyone. The range and speed, as well as the feature set (MU-MIMO!) ensures that this router will stay relevant for a while, and as more AX chips and devices come out, it will become even better. However, it's hard to justify such a new piece of tech for your average home user, who might not realize the true potential this offers. For people who like the latest tech, or power users who put a high demand on home networks, this is a great non-commercial grade option that should not disappoint.

I have had this router for about 2 weeks and I have noticeable noticed the increased speeds. I had a good router before and the areas that already experienced good speeds only showed a slight/moderate increase in speeds and signal strength. I will focus my review on the 2 areas where my signal/strength was horrible. I have a decent size lot by city standards and I had a terrible signal in the rear yard, during the summer I had a speaker connected to my wifi and I had a wifi projector that always had a buffering issue when streaming. Prior to installing the ROG ASUS router my distance was 44 feet from the router and it travelled the thru the residential structure and download speed was 18mb and 28% strength and after the ROG router it went up to 46mb and 66% strength. It alone doesn't look like great numbers but thats a huge increase and im FAR from the router and my projector and streaming speaker works great now. The second area that suffered was the garage, I have a wifi camera that was pretty much useless. I could never connect and it had the ability to rotate the camera as it was motorized. It would hardly ever connect and it would never work when needed. My signal strength in the garage was 4.06mb download 15% strength and 55 ft and the signal has already gone thru the residential structure and one wall of the garage structure. After the ASUS ROG router installed it went to a whopping 59mb and 70% strength. I can now sue the camera and actually use the touchscreen to move the camera via the motorized option in real time! This router has fixed both of my major issues so that in itself is worth it for me. The installation was very simple and the dashboard that shows all my connected devices is very easy to navigate and manage. Overall It was a great addition to my home and I am very happy with this router. I may still add my old router as it is compatable ASUS and use the AI mesh feature that will increase my internet coverage...there seems to be a nice new feature discovered every day!

When the ASUS ROG GT-AX11000 arrived Kid grabs the box, WOW RGB with AURA, Cool Design, I want the gaming port! Me, Wow Commercial Quality Firewall!!! When we opened and unpacked the router, I could sense the ASUS ROG GT-AX11000 was a Beast. The ROG GT-AX11000 is impressive and sitting on the desk quietly it appears to bristle with Power. Fact is this router not only appears to look powerful it is by far the best designed, engineered and executed Gaming/Home networking device I have ever had the pleasure of getting my hands on. And yes, it is without a doubt the fastest Router I have ever had sitting on my desk. First wanted a look inside before getting into the setup routine. Powered up the GT-AX11000 and turned on my laptop to look for the wi-fi which came up shortly and connected to the router, could not have been simpler. Setup is straight forward and had the router up and running quickly. For me it is like giving candy to a kid when I looked at the display of settings and options. The features settings are the most comprehensive of any Gaming/Home router I have ever seen, and I have had many top tier network systems over the years. When I moved the ASUS ROG GT-AX11000 into my network I simply took the settings from my previous router popped them into the ASUS ROG GT-AX11000, plugged in and was on-line. Couldn’t be easier. For those who require a bit of an assist getting the router up and running ASUS has included Quick Internet Setup to get you on line quickly and easily. Quick Start Guide is only five pages long. If you use this option and then decide to start making changes to your router you can make a Router Settings backup under the Administration Settings before you start having fun and experimenting. Note: If you need any assistance setting up your router you can simply call ASUS and they will walk you through the complete setup procedure. Easy as 1-2-3. One option I would like is access to external managed/supported Blacklist. Using the built in “Feedback” selection (located at the bottom of each page of the system interface) I have sent a suggestion to ASUS. ASUS takes these inputs seriously. Fact is as I sit here looking at the screen deciding what to write about, I find the task a bit overwhelming, as there are so many wonderful techie goodies I can describe. So, I will bring up some of my favorites and then suggest you visit the ASUS ROG GT-AX11000 web-site which I will note below in the review. Number one on my hit parade is the Commercial Quality Firewall and AiProtection that is built into the system. Never, aside from Commercial Corporate Level routers (which are quite expensive) have I seen such an exhaustive array of protection technologies. The AiProtection is Powered by Trend Micro, a leader in Internet Protection, Kudos to ASUS for bringing Trend Micro onboard. Know that many will list Game/Home Network Speed, but for me having a better half who daily watches Movies/Videos from China and a Young Gun conquering the universe on his system I look for all the protection I can deploy. ASUS is the only company that has given my that Warm and Fuzzy feeling of security in a router. Gaming – Speed brought to you by 802.11AX (believe that is now called Wi-Fi 6). Hands down the fastest router I believe that has ever been on the market, speeds up to 10GB Wi-Fi. That is 11000Mbps compared to the last standard 802.11ac at 4266Mbps – that’s ten times faster than wired gigabit! There is a dedicated 2.5G Gaming Port, which will provide up to 25GB Game Download speeds. There are so many options for enhancing your gaming experience there seriously isn’t enough space to add it all in the review. Again, visit the web-site posted below for the full picture. Few thoughts: - There are five user ethernet ports. For me having eight ports previously I had to add a switch to handle my wires. - Excellent Traffic Analyzer – by system or individual computers, tv streaming, etc. - Mesh Wi-Fi Support – this is very nice. - Excellent Documentation! Which is becoming difficult to find with Tech Products. Thanks ASUS. - If you need it the Kid Protection is Top-Notch. Have other ROG equipment in my system, like my motherboard and it is all high quality and built for gaming and network speed. Good Stuff. If you are looking for the most cutting-edge Gaming, Home, or small business router with a Real Firewall and Speed Baked in that you can find, stop take a long hard look at the ASUS ROG GT-AX11000. You will be glad you did, it is a Winner! As promised: https://www.asus.com/us/Networking/ROG-Rapture-GT-AX11000/

It's a behemoth but it keeps a solid connection

This is my first ASUS ROG type router and it's an impressive unit to lay eyes upon. The footprint of this router is large and be sure you can accommodate the space for it. I compare it to almost the size of a Nintendo WII laid down on it's side, and then with the antennas factored in it looks like a spider with all 8 legs up in the air. Overall this router kept a solid connection in my 1800 square foot home and I was able to get the same speeds I was getting with my previous Netgear modem/router. I have a Verizon FIOS 100/100 connection and my speeds have been the same with the old router and the new ASUS Rapture. This is a router that can be customized with the RGB color if you choose and that's a really cool feature to have. I'm excited about this router for future proofing myself. This router is capable of Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), and currently I don't have anything that is able to maximize this but I'll be ready for it in the future. The speeds this router is capable of are off the charts and I hope to take it to the max later when I upgrade my FIOS to gigabit service. For me the installation can be a bit challenging even though it comes with a cheat sheet and quick setup guide. I had a harder time than expected, which was unusual as I am up and running within minutes usually. Overall it's an amazing router and will most likely keep up with the newer technology and speeds that come out in the future. My only word of caution on this is that it is not an inconspicuous router and will need a big footprint area to have a place to sit. Not ideal for a home office, but meant mainly for an extreme gamer with hardwired and wireless connections. This baby is a beast and you already know it since you're reading up on these reviews. The price tag is high for this item, but you're going to buy this if you know you need that solid and strong connection for doing what you do. Buy this and enjoy.

    Life on the Cutting Edge

Let's get this out of the way: This router is absolute overkill for most people. But if you like to live on the cutting edge of technology, or if you're a gamer looking for the absolute best wireless networking performance, then this router deserves your attention. Here's my take: === UNBOXING AND SETUP === - The router is packed inside a premium-looking black box that makes it quite clear that this is a high-end gaming router. Inside the box you'll find the router, eight antennas, power adapter, an Ethernet cable, and paperwork. - Asus borrowed this design from their previous flagship router, but it still looks great. Along the router and antenna edges is a sleek copper accent. The Asus RoG ("Republic of Gamers") logo sits atop the router, complete with customizable RGB lighting. If you have other Asus devices with RGB lighting, you can easily sync up your lighting effects using Aura Sync. Otherwise, you can simply customize the top logo to be virtually any color or turn it off completely. - The antennas look great, but they don't come pre-installed. Be sure to take your time when screwing them on, as the antennas don't seem overly durable (they are hollow in the center). - The actual set-up experience is quite easy, but there are a few questions/settings that might confuse average users. After connecting to the router and choosing your network name and password, you're asked whether you want to enable "HE frame support." This isn't well-explained on the set-up screen. It's basically asking whether you want to enable Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), which is the main selling point of this router. Enable it, but make sure your wireless card drivers are up to date. - You can customize the action of the "boost key" on the side of the router. By default, it turns the RBG lighting on or off, but there are a handful of other options you can choose for this button during the set-up process. === FEATURES AND MANAGEMENT === - There is no doubt that the administration interface was designed with gamers and power-users in mind. In fact, it will probably be overwhelming and confusing for average users. But if you're like me and you like to fine-tune and have complete control of your network settings, you will love it. - Standout features include: Game Radar (check ping times to gaming servers); VPN Fusion (run a VPN and standard Internet connection simultaneously); and Traffic Analyzer (monitor bandwidth usage of individual devices). - For gamers, the Game Boost and Game Profile features ensure that all necessary ports are open for seamless multiplayer gaming and that you are automatically connecting to the fastest possible servers. In my testing, these features worked well and reduced my ping times to 20ms and under for most games. - There are too many other features to go through in this review. Simply put, every router setting you could possibly imagine is accounted for, and then some. - The router has 2 USB 3.0 ports for connecting external storage and accessing it via UPnP or network share. Once set up, it works well, but I had a very hard time getting the router to recognize my external hard drive. After finally connecting/disconnecting the drive four times, the router recognized it and it has worked fine since. - There are only four Ethernet ports on the back of the router, which is barely sufficient. For a router in this price range, I would have expected at least eight ports. There is also a 2.5G port, but none of my PCs support it. === PERFORMANCE === - Wireless performance dot not disappoint. I only have a 1,200 sq. ft. apartment, but I pick up full signal strength everywhere. My previous routers have struggled with interference due to the high density of an apartment building, but this one has no issues, at least on the 5 GHz bands. - When connecting via 5 GHz, I consistently max out my Internet download and upload speeds (180 mbps/15 mbps). Transferring files between two 802.11ac-equipped desktops on the network is astonishingly fast: I clocked one of the local transfers at nearly 650 mbps. - Performance on the 2.4 GHz band is surprisingly good given my environment. My Internet speed tests and file transfers unsurprisingly take a hit on 2.4 GHz (dropping to only 60 mbps), but the connection is stable and seems to power through any interference from other networks. - One of the two 5 GHz bands utilizes DFS, which allows access to channels normally reserved for radar. The result is significantly less interference and congestion for your devices. Unfortunately, some of my devices had trouble connecting to the 5 GHz band when it was utilizing a DFS channel. My newest gaming PC works fine, but my older laptop and tablet are unable to connect. - 802.11ax (or Wi-Fi 6) is a huge selling point of this router, but there are no devices on the market (yet) that support it. As such, I can't give any feedback on new 802.11ax features like faster throughput or congestion management. === SMALL QUIRKS === - IPv6 support is not enabled by default. If your ISP supports it, be sure to enable IPv6 in the settings page. - The iOS app needs a lot of work. You can manage some basic settings, but the UI is clunky and I don't see any way to adjust the RGB lighting via the app. === FINAL THOUGHTS === The GT-AX11000 is a total powerhouse packed with features and tech that should satisfy even the most hardcore users. If you're a gamer or power-user looking to upgrade your router, this should absolutely be at the top of your list. I've never seen a router with so many advanced options and features. As a gamer and tech enthusiast, I love it and I'm going to enjoy this for years to come. But for everyone else, this is absolutely overkill. Yes, it has the latest Wi-Fi standard, but at this point, no one can even take advantage of it. And those advanced options and features are likely confusing or useless to most. So for the average users: hold off for 802.11ax/Wi-Fi 6 to become more established. For gamers and enthusiasts: this could be the holy grail of routers.

I have tried many routers, as you know they don't last that long and start to slow down thinking it's your internet speed by your provider. This router takes the cake! Doesn't slow down at all. Phenomenal router. Fast! Updates are easy and always are successful. Easy to install and connect. The router is smart, full of features that it's competitor's don't have. No worries in large house. Looks awesome, beautiful, looks powerful and it is. I love this router. The direct hookup for 2.5 is amazing too! It's worth the money!

    Outstanding router

My environment: 3,300sq/ft 2-story house with about 50 devices connected to the internet that range from every WiFi smart switch in my house, appliances, 5 TVs, 2 gaming consoles, 4K security camera DVR, networked home theater devices, and many other portable devices (laptops, phones, iPads, etc.). It is actually nuts when you start to name it all... About 20 of these devices are connected to my gigabit wired network but I wanted to name them all to give you an idea of the network traffic and requirements I have for a powerful router. What I have tried: 1st attempt: I originally had Xfinity 300/50 and used their “advanced” xFi router with 3 pods. It worked pretty well but I struggled to get more than 100/5 when I was standing right next to the router when all of my devices were idle. I will say that I had very good and consistent coverage everywhere which was my number one priority but I needed more speed with the need for more 4K streaming. This lead me to believe that I needed more bandwidth and unfortunately Xfinity didn’t have a plan any faster than I had. 2nd attempt: In pursuit for more speed, I went with AT&T Gigabit fiber 1000/1000. Since I didn’t own a router, I decided to give their Arris BGW210 with a satellite upstairs a try since it was included in my plan. After using it for a few days, I quickly realized that AT&T clearly shouldn’t be using a 5 year old router for customers with gigabit fiber since I couldn’t get a download speed above 300mbps when standing next to the router. Even worse, my hard wired devices were almost useless when my network was at full load because the router’s processor would overload and reset connections to catch up. After 5 frustrating calls to AT&T I decided to start troubleshooting on my own. When I stripped my network down and hardwired a single laptop to my router I was able to confirm a full 1000/1000 so I was confident that the router just couldn’t handle the load and a certainly couldn’t expect an AC WiFi band with 30 devices to produce much more than it already was. On to the search for the perfect router. Since I have new iPhones and 2 laptops that are AX capable, I thought it only made sense to look for an AX router. Unfortunately, my options were pretty limited back in November 2019 but I thought I would give it a try anyways. Now to the router: Knowing that I have a large mix of hardwired, older 2.4Ghz devices, 5Ghz AC and 5Ghz AX devices I decided that I needed a Tri-band router with a solid processor. I initially thought that I needed a system with multiple access points to ensure adequate coverage but wanted to see if I could accomplish everything I wanted with a single device and not spend $800–$1000 to do it. With so many mixed reviews, I went out on a limb and tried the ASUS ROG AX11000. I setup my AT&T router in IP Passthrough mode with the firewall turned off (really important before trying any new router) and started getting ready for my new ASUS. TIP: Make sure you change your internal IP network beforehand on your gateway to make sure you don’t have to reprogram every single device in your house since your new router can’t share the same subnet as your gateway without major issues. Once you change your gateway, you can just chose the same IP subnet for your ASUS so your devices don’t have to be preprogrammed (e.g., printers, WiFi smart switches, etc.). Unboxing: ASUS packaged this thing like an AMEX Black Card and probably could have saved us some money by not packing it like a piece of fine crystal..but it surely arrived flawlessly..lol. It initially seemed like overkill before plugging it in because it’s massive with tons of antennas and LEDs to look like a spaceship. I ended up hiding mine in a central location in my house above my pantry and disabled all the LEDs (nice feature) so it didn’t intimidate anyone who saw it and thought I was hiding some crazy weapon. Setup: The instructions were very straight forward and didn’t require any special calls to support. Make sure you prepare your old gateway prior to plugging everything in and see if you need to contact your ISP to allow IP pass though if they don’t have a web interface. Like I mentioned before, I used the same subnet as my previous network and also changed the SSID to the same as what I previously used as well with the exact same WiFi password to eliminate the all-day fun of reprogramming the 30 WiFi devices I have with new information. ASUS has an amazing web interface and mobile App so this is really easy to manage and also monitor the progress of devices connecting to your network after everything is powered up. As soon as I confirmed that my devices were all connected, I started to run some speed tests throughout my house. Speed tests: 1. Next to my router: 700/800 2. The furthest point on my first floor: 500/450 3. In my garage (separated by concrete block): 120/200 4. Outside in my yard: 80/50 5. Second floor above my router: 600/650 6. Furthest point on my second floor 200/180 After throughly testing this thing over the past 90 days, I have been extremely happy with the performance and haven’t had to reboot it a single time unless I was updating the firmware. There have been a few firmware updates that were mostly focused on security which is great. I have a PS4 that has had zero lag and a consistently low ping (even when 2 TVs are streaking 4K Netflix). I was originally hoping I would get closer to a gig download on my WiFi but also realize that I probably won’t ever see that with the number of devices I have with heavy bandwidth consumption. The bottom line, this is a perfect router if you have a ton of devices and a connected home with the desire to accomplish it with a single device.

PROs: - After having just moved up to a competitor's mesh solution requiring its own special hardware for node expansion, I was totally pumped at the thought that I could reuse my old RT-68U for an even faster AiMesh configuration--but the AX11000 is SO powerful and and SO-over engineered for speed and signal coverage that I ended up not really needing to bother! -- If you have a modest to smallish sized house/dwelling, one of these alone is likely all you're going to need (more below in the summary review) - If you're even CONSIDERING investing in a router like this, you clearly want to take your game to 11--on both features and an explicitly over-the-top gamer aesthetic, this router goes to 15 with even more room on the dial! -- A tweaker's/gamer's/power-user's dream--you have total control over so many aspects of its operation and network configuration it's frankly bewildering at first...more than 20 functions greet you just on the main landing page (that's before going into the advanced settings) and the companion app has over 30 primary features that open for further control/refinement from your phone or tablet at home or on-the-go -- In a very handy bit of usability engineering, the network map can be customized to rename clients to your liking and you can add some pre-fab icons or even your own photos to give you a visual snapshot of your network -- Asus packed in a number of gamer-specific features like Game Boost (adaptive QoS), Game Profiles w/customized forwarding rules for a number of popular titles, WTFast GPN (paid service for full access) for using game-optimized VPNs, and Game Radar which sniffs out ping and availability of popular game servers -- Unless you're just in for bragging rights (and let's be honest, there are those of us who are!), this router will give you just about the ultimate in control, administration, and configuration for a secure and gamer/streamer/whatever traffic-optimized network - Alexa integration was quick and actually provides some useful functionality--unlike some competitor Alexa skills that will spit out your password to anyone who asks, ASUS's Alexa skills allow you to activate or schedule the guest network, pause the Internet entirely, give you a summary of online clients, pair new devices, upgrade the firmware, etc. - Yeah, it looks like a Transformer unfolded on your desktop/shelf and the RGB color and animation customization is definitely a fine touch for the gamer who simply must have it ALL! - AiMesh worked like a champ--3 minutes (almost to the second) of unattended configuration of factory-reset RT-68U and I had a mesh client ready to extend network coverage anywhere I wanted--just be aware that the AX11000 is SO powerful you have to be mindful of where you place your node--my first attempt to put the 68U in a 'convenient' location ended up hurting network performance - Short of a few more Ethernet ports to load up for a LAN party or max out some other high-speed wired clients, I can't imagine anyone truly outgrowing this router for the near-term to foreseeable future...2.5Gbps Ethernet port--check; two high-speed USB ports--check; got an older ASUS router you want to use to build a mesh network--check; and, oh yeah...a WiFi standard so new you're not likely to find clients/adapters for it yet...rest assured you shouldn't NEED to invest in a newer/faster router for many years to come! CONs: - Despite being virtually plug-and-play in initial setup, this router is ultimately not for the timid or "typical" household user--I suspect you already know that if you're flirting with the idea of buying a ROG-branded router, but it's value proposition is nevertheless diminished somewhat by more pocketbook-friendly options (even by ASUS) that offer nearly identical 2.4/5Ghz performance...sans 802.11ax of course...but how much that draft wireless standard, the RGB lighting, and gamer-oriented optimizations/customizations mean to YOU is something between you and your bank account - No escaping it, this thing is HUGE, so keep that in mind when you consider just where you're going to put it...I've got a picture of it below next to my other ASUS AC1900 router...the horizontal profile and ornate, but ultimately bulky, antennae illustrate just how much room this will take up in use - Speaking of the antennae...the extra design flourishes in the antenna shape means you can't just grab one by the top and rotate it downwards--it's not a big deal, but the bulbous backside on the housings means you have to rotate the antenna and lay them down "sideways" after about 50-60 degrees of straight decline...it's just a tad awkward in practice and I kept forgetting about it at first while I was optimizing for reception upstairs and down and continually knocked the antenna housings against the tabletop - I don't know why, but the network map didn't seem very stable for me--I would often have to wait several minutes watching multiple refreshes on the screen before a client I knew was already on the network (even the one I was using AT THAT TIME! to log into the router itself) would actually show up on the network client list...this made customizing the network map troublesome because clients would show up and then drop off the list seemingly at random (not go into "offline" status, but disappear from the screen entirely), even while I was in the middle of customizing their device "profile" onscreen - Given that this router touts draft 802.11ax support as part of its selling points, there aren't (as of now) consumer-level clients/adapters available to effectively test this capability anyway...given that we're about a year ahead of the power curve, maybe a USB-C port would have been a nice inclusion in the meantime to really future-proof your investment??? - Unlike some competitor mesh solutions, re-using an existing router here also means you need the real-estate to put another router on a table/shelf--not a drawback of this router per se, but a plug-in style node from ASUS would actually be appreciated as I don't always have the surface area (or spousal approval) to accommodate another piece of networking hardware in just the right spot in our home... Summary review As I just finished one mesh upgrade from my lone RT-68U, the experience was fresh in my mind as were the details I gathered in preparing that other review. I'll hit the high points here to give you context for my observations and then get to the summary stats. We have a 3-story, 4500 sq-foot house. I have a relatively extensive home network with 60+ wireless clients and counting, including at least 30 smart home devices, multiple smart TVs and 4K media streamers, and a family who is routinely gaming, streaming, and otherwise engaged online. I pay for 200 mbps class cable service and get roughly 288 mbps at the router. From the RT-AC68U, I was running a 1.2 Gbps Powerline adapter to a separate Wireless N router to cover a very small portion of the basement and help isolate some of my daughter's LAN party traffic. Given that reusing an older ASUS router for AiMesh was a pretty attractive feature for me, I re-installed my original 68U to prepare for this review. The following readings were all obtained within roughly 2-3 hours of each other (so keep that variability in mind) using the fastest of 3 sequential trials from the same Speedtest server: RT-AC68U: - Main floor, same room as router: 174 mbps down/28.7 up - Main floor, 1 room away: 169 mbps down/28.9 up - Main floor, 3 rooms away: 132 mbps down/28.4 up - Top floor bedroom: 161 mbp down/27.9 up - Basement rec room (directly below 1st floor router): 172 mbps down/28.8 up - Back of unfinished basement: 88.6 mbps down/6.50 up - Basement bathroom: no service GT-AX11000: - Main floor, same room as router: 286 mbps down/29.1 up - Main floor, 1 room away: 271 mbps down/29.1 up - Main floor, 3 rooms away: 173 mbps down/28.9 up - Top floor bedroom: 287 mbp down/28.9 up - Basement rec room (directly below 1st floor router): 273 mbps down/28.8 up - Back of unfinished basement: 171 mbps down/28.7 up - Basement bathroom: 23.6 mbps down/8.56 up The GT-AX1100 delivered near wired speeds within close proximity and simply CRUSHED the throughput of the AC2200 mesh router (with a basement node for coverage!) I just recently installed, even delivering usable performance to that troublesome basement bathroom area. Then I added the 68U as a mesh node in the rec room in large part because I had a convenient end table for it to rest. I was puzzled when the rec room's readings dropped from 273 to 171 mbps. Then I remembered that performance near the node would be capped by whatever equipment I was reusing whenever that signal was stronger than the GT-AX11000's--even if the AX11000 could still provide better performance. Once I moved the 68U to the back of the bedroom next to the bathroom, these were the readings I obtained: AiMesh GT-AX1100 + RT-AC68U: - Basement rec room (directly below 1st floor router): 284 mbps down/28.8 up - Back of unfinished basement: 182 mbps down/28.6 up - Basement bathroom: 125 mbps down/28.2 up Bottom line, it's hard to be any happier than I already am with this router (maybe if I had two???). Sure, there are probably better values out there, and for many users, this thing is WAY over-engineered and WAY more capable than anything you're likely to need or even want to bother to configure and manage. But that isn't at all what this thing is about...it's about MORE...more coverage, more features, more control, and more unapologetic "in-your-face-ness" for the gamer/power/super users who simply want MORE from their online/networking experience. In virtually every way, this router delivers that bleeding edge, so-much-MORE experience in spades. If you've got the means, take the plunge--you won't be sorry!

Excellent router. The 8 antennas give it great penetration and range on my home. No need for extenders anymore, at least for my home. If you still wish to use extenders, the router supports Asus's Ai Mesh, which you can use to add additional routers as a mesh for total coverage. It has great gaming and streaming features, ie. it has adaptive QOS, you can choose what to prioritize, like gaming, streaming, surfing. It also has integrated WTfast network, which chooses the fastest path to your gaming servers automatically, you can configure it per game and per device (ie pc, consoles etc), most of the more known online games are there, like rainbowsix, overwatch, fortnite, etc. Only caveat is the router only gives you a 30 day trial, you have to purchase a subscription from Wtfast after that if you wish. It has configurable button on the side, you can configure it to boost games, or to switch off the LED lights and the lighted up logo (I use it for that, as can be annoying at night). Has many features, if you're a tinkerer with settings you will be in heaven, however if you're not technically inclined, it may be too overwhelming. A few caveats, I could not get it to work with my Pihole raspberry adblocker. No matter what I did to setup the DNS to my Pihole server, it will not block ads. For some reason the router seems to skip the manual DNS settings. Also, it lets you monitor traffic/bandwith used, but does not allow you to configure it to ie block all internet access once certain bandwidth is consumed (good for ISP's that have data caps, com...st I'm talking about you). I had different brand router that allowed me to monitor total bandwidth used within a month and then stop all data once a certain amount configurable by me was used, so no overage charges on data caps.. I hope Asus ads this feature. I tried to use the submit feedback feature, but I got a return email saying that the email inbox was full, I guess they get a lot of requests!!

Highly recommend this router. The setup is straightforward and had me up and running quickly. Instantly noticed a huge difference when hard-wired to my gaming rig. I installed the router in my office middle of the house. 2100sq ft house there is not a spot it doesn't work. Speeds connected to wi-fi are super fast. I got lucky and it was $100 off at Best Buy. I called ASUS customer support with a few questions they were quick to respond.

To start off with let’s address the elephant in the room: it’s expensive. Now let’s be honest, if you’re buying this you either need it or want it and either way you understand this is one if the few wireless ax routers announced and will therefore cost a bit money. Installation went smoothly, antennas screwed in without a hitch, device powered on instantly (I think ASUS includes the same charger they use on their lower end laptops which is hilarious). Keep in mind that the wireless ax standard can conflict with certain devices until you update the driver, if the manufacturer hasn’t updated it yet you’ll have to turn off wireless ax (don’t worry you won’t sacrifice performance on your other devices). I have 25+ devices connected to our network around the clock, I have kids playing fortnite, overwatch, battlefield, streaming netflix/Hulu/YouTube, streaming multiple tv shows and movies over our home network off our media server, live dvr recordings via plex+hd homerun, and generic browsing and college homework. It takes all that without a problem and keeps chugging along, no decrease in network speed or ping. Our house has brick and concrete walls so I flashed dd-wrt on our old nighthawk r7000 and set that up as a repeater but I knew I’d be doing something like that before I even ordered this router. The gui is is heavy in the “gamer” look that the rest of the ROG products sport which really isn’t a surprise. I’m excited to see updates to the firmware as time goes on as that is what ASUS is known for, not that the current firmware is bad but I’d like to see what’s in store for us down the road (see other ASUS router reviews over time). If I had to come up with cons I’d go with the relative lack of Ethernet ports (compared to the previous rog router), and (I’m really nitpicking now) the copper finish would have looked better as red or an RGB option like the RGB ROG logo would have been outstanding.

When a family of 5 gets locked down for COVID 19, with one parent working from home, and 3 kids needing to be online for school, and gaming when not at school, streaming movies, controlling smart home devices, etc., etc., No better move than to get this super reliable, super strong Router. Reaches every corner of my home reliably, manages all the traffic we can throw at it, and whether gaming, streaming, video conferencing, or all of the above, no signal degradation. Security was really easy to setup. Dedicating which devices I wanted on which band was awesome. The added "boost" feature to dedicate to specific devices for gaming specifically is a plus(though there is a subscription required for this feature usage). The app is also pretty good and easy to use as well. About a month in from purchase and setup, and I couldn't be happier at this point.

The hidden Jewel of WIFI routers!!! I know in the past, people had issues with this router, but ASUS has since fixed a lot if not all the issues now with the latest firmware. That's kind of ASUS's mo, if any of you are custom PC builders; same thing happens with their Motherboards. This thing is incredible. My ISP speed is 750mb down / 20 mb up with comporium. I tried the new Google Mesh 3 pack, Triband Velop, Netgear AX8, Eero Pro and Eero2019, and last...the brand new Netgear MK62 mesh Wifi 6. NONE of those products hold a candle to the AX11000. Firmware is solid, 0 issues. Close to the router I get 750mbps over freaking WIFI (Using my Samsung 10 plus on Wifi 6 5Ghz Band of course). If I had gigabit fiber I bet it could do it or come really close. 2.4ghz Band, usually around 300mbps which is pretty much the highest you can go on 2.4ghz from what I've seen. All across my house, i consistently get 400 - 750mbps. All the other systems, would drop off a ton once I was in the 20 - 40 feet away range, to like 250mbps at best. Some would go down to 30 or 70mbps. The AX8 system was pathetic...170mbps on WIFI 6 for goodness sake, and thats standing right next to it. The Eero2019 Wifi 5 was better. What about these new MK62's, those are WIFI 6 and everyone is loving them....not for me. Those things dropped connections, range was decent, but have an issue with WIFI 6 and WIFI 5 devices connected to it at the same time. They weren't reliable for all devices is the point. If they would have been reliable, for $229 the MK62 are a good solid choice because they are true WIFI 6 and have 160 on the 5GHZ Band. But..for $100 bucks more this ASUS destroys it in everyway. Coverage - I mean...if u need more coverage than this...you got a big house or something. My house was extremely difficult to get strong reliable wifi to flow through it for some reason. Standard 2 story house at 2150sqft. I do have the router in a fairly centralized location, and I put it up on a tall bookshelf for the best coverage. None of the others systems I tried had this kind of coverage. The Eero Pro came closer but the speed on both it and the 2019 version falls off a cliff once you step outside. The AX11000, all the way down my driveway, at the mailbox, outside, fullbars...200mbps. For the current price at Bestbuy, its was on sale for $334, there's really no reason not to go with this over all the others including all the mesh networks. Buy this, then go buy the Asus AC extender if u need a hard line connection somewhere else in your home, use the Asus AIMesh network, and bam. Wifi 6, full coverage, insane speeds, great ping, great overall latency and access times, plus lifetime virus protection built into the router... Stop looking and buy this and futureproof your house. No I dont work for Asus or anything of the sort. I have been building systems for 20+ years and never tried an ASUS router, usually went with Ubiquity or Netgear products. Will Update this if I run into any issues but so far...I'm extremely happy. The other products, with WIFI 6 now here, just isn't worth it at this price point now. What i've learned with all this, is WIFI 6 systems are not created equal right now. WIFI 6 really doesnt mean a whole lot until you purchase a product like this. The rest are really just WIFI 5 and all of them have mesh reliability issues, except the eeros. The Eeros are just slow, for the money your paying on those. Mesh networks work for some, but not me. I'd put this up against any Mesh network, even a 3 or 4 node setup. Including Google Wifi, Eero pro, and Netgear Orbi Wifi 6 which is just insanely overpriced compared to this. Hopefully this helps people with their decision. I wanted to try everything out there at these kind of price points. I mean seriously you could buy a PS4 PRO for these prices... Stop looking, researching, wondering. This is the best your going to get without spending a ton more and a much more insane setup which still probably wont give you real WIFI 6.

This by far surpassed my expectations of a wireless router. I had been using another brand for many years and due to some recent severe issues with vulnerability to a severe security flaw that can let hackers take over devices remotely, to put it lightly, that router was hacked and almost everything was breached in my network and taken over. Also receiving Ddos attacks after another that originally came from my service providers router. Now on to the Asus review! The wifi range is ridiculously large. Our home is just over 4000 square foot. I can go to one of my neibors a couple of homes over and I still have full bars on wifi and it works flawlessly. I'm tempted to walk down further to check how far away from home, to see how far but, there's no reason for me to. Settings: The Tri-Band wifi is perfect. We have one of the 5ghz bands for our sons PS4, since we purchased this router, he's not mentioned once of it being slow or dropping signal. We have a monster build with the Asus x570 crosshair viii hero wifi motherboard, on a separate floor, and it's connecting at 1.7gb on 5ghz band. After running a speed test with okla speed test.com and the average results are over a gigabit, from 1.4 to 1.6. Our speed is 1 gigabit. We have 36 devices including smart home devices and not one hiccup noticed with any device. This is great for gamers, whole home wifi, and this has a professional router setup for those really serious tech guys that know exactly what settings they want or need. Overall, this router took care of all of our needs and we're really happy with it.
