overall a good machine, would have preferred a full size key board. graphics card is fantastic but remember to change the settings to run off of the 6800M from the integrated card for peak performance. Unfortunately I have only had it for 3 weeks and one of the keys on the key board is popping out. Looking into getting this taken care of as a manufacturer defect.

The laptop has very good specs for the price compared to other laptops on the market. Overall I like this laptop. The problem I have which is why I give it 3 stars is the laptop randomly restarts with no warning. Event Viewer on Windows 10 shows this sudden restart as Event ID: 41. This seems to be a common issue from what I've researched. Hopefully ASUS can resolve this issue.

ASUS and AMD did it Right and FAST

This is my third ASUS gaming laptop that I have bought over the last 5 years. I travel a lot and like to take my gaming on the road with me and I like to have the latest and greatest. ASUS has not let me down in the gaming department and I was really excited to be able to get an all AMD system. This G15 Advantage rocks for gaming in a hotel room. At home I can hook it up to my desktop monitor without issue, that is only a 144Hz monitor, and it works excellently there. It is the best experience I have ever had on a gaming laptop. Has been a while since I used AMD's driver package, and it is now leaps and bounds better than NVIDIA's. It is so much easier to use and tweak on than my previous GeForce cards and laptops. I know a lot of folks are not into the whole RGB thing, but the lighting on this laptop are very cool to play with and how it does a bunch of different sequences and you can customize those as well.

3rd was a charm for me. First two devices were disappointing with GPU related issues. I did get to test the first two out which I fell in love with the performance and for what performance you get for the price. Took one last chance and scored with the 3rd one.

At $1,400 you can't find anything else that will beat the offerings of this laptop. There seems to be some issues with the older batch as mentioned by many. I owned an open box one (06/2021 batch) for almost a month before returning it for a brand new one (08/2021 batch). Memory: Memory cards have been updated for the one I received in the 08/2021 batch. Overheating issue: The CPU from the open box one would be constantly running between 88-95C when I play CS, but the new one stays between 75-82C, which is a remarkably improvement. Bottom line: This machine offers the best quality-price-ratio in the high-end gaming laptop market right now, so look no further.

A very nice, fast, and powerful gaming computer. Great display. Though there is no camera you won't miss it because it does alow you too too connect one or go wireless with your smartphone. So I connected my Asus ROG phone 3. Four ✨ because the wifi isn't that great unless you're in the same room as the router.

This laptop is a great bang for the bucks laptop on paper. However, their quality control is terrible at launch. I got one of the very first models, driving out one hour to pick it up, and was happy with it at first. However, I have found my laptop to be restarting randomly once and awhile despite using a factory reset. If it wasn't for that, this laptop would have no other issues other than the cheap RAM, mux switch, and the keyboard. I've found that some of my keystrokes don't exactly register, which is annoying when you can quickly type, but the keyboard fails you.

I certainly understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused you.

All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, this is a random problem. After a successful factory reset, please try to update Windows to the most current version, if not performed yet. Normally, ASUS provides one year warranty coverage, if product was purchased brand-new, in order to fix or repair any hardware or part that stop working prematurely under normal usage.

If you need more information or further assistance with the warranty for the product, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I would be more than happy to help. Gave this a chance as it's the best hardware at this price point by a monolithic margin even with the RAM I had to buy and install myself. The 6800m is intended to compete with the 3080 and it does in testing. However whenever I begin a game the framerate holds for several minutes then starts decaying into the abyss of 50 fps in the case of League, 30 fps in the case of Warzone. Having read the other reviews I'm not optimistic about returning it for another. I'm not sure what happened in production to this laptop but the software looked and functioned as if it were made by an unpaid intern. By far the worst box opening experience I've ever had.

I will start with my idiosyncratic stuff first. Things I find irksome that most people probably don't care about.  First, I hate the RGB lighting. I get that it's a popular thing right now, but I find it annoying and distracting. So, the first thing I did (after initial setup and registration) was figure out how to disable the feature. Luckily, it is very easy to do. I settled on a consistent light blue for a non obtrusive backlighting. But, if the wacky lights are your thing, then there's a great deal of customization available for you.   The second thing that made my lip curl was the ear shattering chime that blares a second after pressing the power button. Gaming time for me is after my wife and our toddler are asleep. The first time I powered on this laptop the sound startled me, it was so loud. After fixing the RGB I fiddled with system settings then concluded I would just make sure the volume was all the way down every time I shut it off. That same evening I crawled in bed next to my sleeping wife and hit the power button on the computer, excited to try a game. It was like that scene in Back to the Future, when Marty is trying to convince his father to ask his mother to the dance. He's in his hazmat suit and scares his father awake with Eddie Van Halen. Anyway, if you remember George McFly's reaction in that scene, that was my wife when the computer started. Luckily, like the RGB, this can be remedied, but it wasn't as straightforward. Hold the F2 button as the ROG logo appears and don't let go until a screen that isn't Windows pops up. Click the button that says "advanced" something or other. In that screen there should be a toggle for animated startup sound or something of that nature. That should do the trick.   My only other annoyance about this laptop is the black plastic finish. Don’t get me wrong, it looks nice… until you close the screen again and see all those beautiful fingerprints. It looks like you just made origami with lunch meat then used the computer as a napkin. Of course, this is an exaggeration, but even though I washed my hands before first touching my computer it is very evident where I grasped the lid to open and adjust it and where I’ve pushed it closed.  A little quality that I am surprised and really happy about is how quiet the key strokes are. There's definitely some sound as you type, but compared to my Surface Book, this laptop's keys are ninja quiet.  Now for the real stuff. I think this computer is pretty great for what it is. It’s clearly designed for gaming with little desire in giving it much more versatility. There’s no touchscreen to help with photo editing or illustration. Don’t expect to do any video conferencing without an external device, because there’s no camera. Of course, there's no optical drive for discs of any sort. The screen, while only 1080p, looks great with both games and video. I'm not so convinced that you can see much of a difference with 4k at this size anyway, which would just take power away from the processor. There's no 10 key number pad, which I thought would annoy me, but since I'm not using the computer for work, I find that I don't even notice the keys aren't there.  Historically, I have been a console gamer. The price tag for PC gaming, as well as how quickly hardware becomes obsolete has really kept me away. Sure, a PS5 will run you $500, but its lifespan will likely be around 6 or 7 years. This laptop? Around 3 times as expensive and I can’t say that I’ve had any laptop live as long as a console generation. Just something to think about. That said, my experience on this machine has been a lot of fun. My software loads quick (except for Destiny 2, but that’s Destiny 2) and looks beautiful on the screen. Colors are vibrant, contrast is great, and I have had no issues with glare.   I feel the need to admit this; I am not terribly knowledgeable when it comes to GPUs and processors or the inner workings of computers in general. Sure, I can install a new hard drive and upgrade the RAM, but when it comes down to the nitty gritty, I’m kind of clueless. Even if I knew the difference between Radeon X vs. Radeon X.001, I would not be able to discern the features and benefits of one over the other. I’ve read some negative reviews about this laptop’s graphics cards (or was it processor?) not performing properly, but I have had absolutely no problems. I can tell you that it does get a little loud when it’s trying to keep cool and it does get very warm, but never so much that it’s a danger to the computer. Battery life is pretty decent, in my opinion. I played around 2 solid hours of Control solely off the battery and still had about 20% remaining.   This probably doesn’t make much difference when deciding which gaming laptop to purchase, but this guy does have a bit of weight to it. The laptop casing is completely plastic and it still weighs about as much as my Surface Book, which is the same size (though thinner) and mostly metal. I was surprised at the size and weight of the power brick as well. It might weigh more than an actual brick and is nearly the same size as one.   So, here’s the bottom line for me; I really like this laptop. It’s quick, it plays my games well and they look great. But, if I have $1600 to spend on gaming things, then my eyes are on a PS5 console and bunch of games. I’d maybe even have enough money left over for a decent tv upgrade. I personally just don’t see the advantages to having a gaming computer with how advanced consoles have become, especially when comparing the price.

So Much Packed Into A 15" Laptop

The ASUS Rog Strix gaming laptop has a lot of power packed into a 15" laptop. The keyboard is comfortable to type on and the track pad is smooth. The LED lighting of the keyboard and the front of the laptop is a nice touch by ASUS. It has an 8 core AMD R9-5900HX CPU with built-in graphics. In addition there is a discrete AMD Radeon RX 6800M GPU with 12GB of GDDR6 2000 MHz dedicated VRAM. The version I have has 16GB of DDR4 RAM (8GB x 2). For storage, it has a 512GB PCI-E Gen 3 SSD. For power, it has a large but not too heavy power brick and a 90Wh battery. The built-in speakers are great. The sound quality is amazing for laptop speakers and it supports Dolby Atmos. It also has Bluetooth, Wifi 6 AX, and a Gigabit wired NIC. As far as ports, it has one HDMI out, 1 USB-C 3.2 (high power), 3 USB-A 3.2, RJ45, a 3.5mm port and a built-in noise canceling microphone. It's packaging is well designed and though out. The ASUS Armoury application that comes with the laptop allows you to set profiles for various situations such as gaming, video, etc. You can also use a dedicated key to quickly switch power modes. Airflow seems to be good. I played Battlefield 4 for a few hours straight without the laptop heating up much. I did have the mode set to Turbo. This kicked up the RPMs of the fans. With the standard power setting set, the fans don't make much noise, but it is definitely noticeable when you set the laptop to Turbo mode. While playing Battlefield 4, I used the AMD Radeon software to check the frame rate. According to the app, I was averaging 130fps over the 2 or so hour period of time that I was playing BF4. During that time I also had the HDMI port connected to a 28" 4K monitor that I was using for the game. There is also the options from AMD to enhance video rendering when using games. So far, the performance of the laptop has been great. The only thing I could think of that I would like to be different is the FHD laptop display. I would like to see it be a 4K laptop display, but as it is, the FHD screen has low latency and is sharp and vibrant. Aside from that, there really isn't anything lacking in this laptop. I would recommend the ROG Strix to anyone who is looking for a reasonably priced powerful gaming laptop.
