So i've own this specific model since July 2021.
Its a great machine, when it works correctly. So why three stars?
Within the first month of ownership, the motherboard had to be replaced due to a power surge, which prevented the system from turning on. Luckily, Best buys geek squad took care of it and got it fixed.
Now as of December 2022, my screen is flickering or showing multicolored barcodes during normal operation (ie chrome or explorer usage) and even during gaming sessions. When plugged into an external display it doesnt occur. I even updated graphics drivers, bios and went to windows 11 (from 10) and it still flickers.
I even did a total system recovery and the screen flickered during the Asus WINRE recovery process, wiped the ssd drives to see if it may have been a fault with the windows 11 install, it still flickers after the process and updated graphics drivers from amd...
I still have my extended warranty from Best Buy so i will be taking it to geek squad and see if they can figure it out, or if its a lost cause at this point. Figured i'd give Asus a chance, but probably won't buy another after this one... will probably go back to alienware or MSI for my next system

I love this laptop and cannot recommend it enough. I did upgrade the ram and added a second SSD but the value of this machine is still fantastic. The 6800M is an absolute steal.

Would recommend this to anyone. As a content creator this thing is an absolute workhorse. Effectively a desktop at home, need it on the go occasionally. I could do without the "gaming aesthetic" but for "professional creators laptops" you're going to spend twice as much for the same hardware. Don't get fooled by that marketing ploy. It's a little chunky, but if you're buying something with this much power it's probably spending most of it's time acting as a desktop.
Note, YOU WILL NEED an external monitor to make full use of the dedicated GPU. Make sure you look into upgrading RAM, as the stock ram bottlenecks its performance. Do your research online. Not a massive issue, I've only ran into it not being as fast as it should be when encoding large video files

Laptop is powerful very nice keyboard, great build quality, shiny nice metal material. Strong 8 core 16 thread, customizable fan speeds strong GPU. The only cons are that it can get hot, which can cause it to throttle. But for gaming this shouldn't be much of a problem

Great Laptop .. High temperature is the main issue when you boost it to the max.
Vulkan test on GeekBench makes puts it under the 3060 but other than that most tests put it high above 3060 and some times above 3070. compared to the Zephyrus G15 - 5900HX with 3070.
Battery life is good not perfect though. You can charge it via the USB C too.

My favorite laptop I’ve used in 2022. I went through maybe 4 other laptops including dell lenovo and other asus laptops, and none matched this laptop at all. Happy I was able to get it on sale. Swapped the ram for some newer faster ram but even if u don’t it’s still a great option for a laptop.

Overall well built and balanced. Gaming performance is top notch and nothing gets too hot or loud. Battery life is still decent as well for non gaming tasks. Fairly light as well so if your a serious gamer its actually a decent college laptop.

I'll make this short & sweet: The value proposition of this laptop is tremendous. The Ryzen 5900HX and Radeon 6800M are both absolute beasts. The 512GB SSD is of middling quality, but the performance is acceptable and there is plenty of room for expansion and it's simple enough to do. The one thing missing is a MUX that would allow disabling the integrated GPU, which the discrete GPU is routed through for power saving purposes, this hurts performance a bit, unfortunately. A MUX would add cost, though, and given the price I can't complain there not being that feature.

Overall an impressively powerful machine which can trade blows with an RTX 3080. CPU does run hot at full load (low/mid 90's) but this can be mitigated by setting a manual power profile in armory crate and lowering the max tdp from 190w down to around 160w or so. I found 150w to be the sweet spot with a very minimal loss in performance (5-6 fps max) in Halo Infinite, while getting the CPU Temps down to the higher 70's and lower 80's.
It doesn't have the fit or finish of the Zephyrus line which I'm fond of, as most of the construction is plastic with the exception of the outer part of the lid being metal. Looks are not its strength and sexiness is not its aim. If you're looking for the most power you can get on a 3060 budget, this guy delivers and more so.
Just wish the build quality was more polished and the thermals were a little better. Can't complain about performance at this price though - I bought mine on sale at $1399 and that is simply a fantastic deal for the power you're getting.

So many wonderful things about this computer, so I'll limit this to the big three:
1. Gameplay is amazing. Quick (zero lag)
2. Sound. Honesty it feels like We're in a theatre. Best sound I've heard from a computer.
3 Stunning graphics. It automatically switches to the best video graphics option for what we are doing. It works perfectly for gaming and graphic arts (photo and film editing).
We are thrilled with this. Oh, also, the batter life seems to be better than 8 hours (the longest we've used it off line - still didn't die though.)

I got mine yesterday (open box excellent) been testing it. haven't had anything major to complaint yet. the laptop booted directly in recovery mode and had nothing but clean windows. I even had to install Armoury crate from the Asus website. first I thought the shortcut buttons weren't working but then I found that there was no software at all to support it. The performance in game is good. Will have to keep testing it. The CPU temp stays a constant 95 to 96 degrees (when gaming). this is my first encounted with Laptop gaming so can't really say whether this is uncomfortably hot or normal practice, but I will say it DOES GET PRETTY HOT! GPU keeps fluctuating btwn 70s and 80s C. I didn't get the original box (not a big deal) but didn't even get the 2 other coloured corner options (White and Gray) which comes with this model (which is a little disappointing). have been thinking whether to return this and get G15 with 3070 which is going for 1550 on BestBuy this week (B.Friday) or not??? any thoughts?

Laptop is great when I do not receive Event ID: 41 (Kernel Power unexpected shutdown) five times within an hour. I used this for 3 weeks and the last freeze / shutdown irritated me enough to return the device. The shutdowns were random and I believe are related to liquid metal spilling over, however I did not want to remove the liquid vapor chamber to inspect as it looks incredibly delicate. I picked up a G15 Zephyrus with a 3070 in it's place and so far I haven't received one error and the device performs as intended.

Best value gaming laptop

Hands down the best value laptop you’ll ever get. I upgraded from an MSI gaming laptop to this beast and I LOVE it! 2 upgrades you might want to look into if you want this to be as powerful as possible: buy an upgraded SSD (I bought a 1TB PCIe NVME Kingston SSD $100. Pcie Nvme are the only that will fit into the other slot. Another upgrade is the RAM. The RAM it has is kinda lacking but if you swap it out, you’ll get around a 10% boost (if it’s worth the extra $50-100). Other than that, though, this beauty competes with my friends’ built $2k-3k desktops. If you want 4k then buy a monitor and plug in directly to the graphics card and you’ll get 4K quality.
For the price, this is the best purchase I’ve made.

The liquid metal defect is a HUGE problem. I took this thing apart as soon as I got it, and removed it completely. Upon opening it, I saw what could have been an accident waiting to happen. The liquid metal had moved to one side and was pooling near the silicon barrier. The silicon barrier was good on the GPU, but the one on the CPU had an air bubble, and came off as soon as I cleaned off the liquid metal with a cotton swab. Keep in mind this is one of the newer M6NRK serial number laptops, and it still had this problem. For those curious about the TIM I used: K5 PRO for VRAM and VRM, and Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut for CPU and GPU. The temperatures dropped a few degrees after a repaste.
If you're someone who is used to tinkering with very expensive and sensitive electronics, then this is the best deal for the performance that you can get.
If you're an average user, look elsewhere. A laptop that doesn't have liquid metal would be your best bet. ASUS really wasn't thinking things through when they decided to put a conductive liquid inside a computer that's meant to be portable.
Don't get me wrong, my experience with this computer has been amazing. It's the most powerful and reliable machine I own, but I would NOT recommend it to a person who wants a plug and play solution.

DO NOT BUY OPEN BOX

This reflects more of Best Buy than the product. DO NOT BUY OPEN BOX VERSIONS OF THIS LAPTOP. They are DEFECTIVE, Best Buy seems to be knowingly selling these dead units. I bought the laptop yesterday "Open Box Excellent", and this thing is a beast. Handles any triple A game you want at really high settings. The issue is a hardware, presumably with the liquid metal, the laptop started crashing while playing BFV repeatedly, then blue screened. They have allegedly fixed this issue on the newer ones, so if you are interested in this laptop spend the extra hundred on a new one.
Notice how there are no open boxes certified by Geek Squad, odd coincidence. I'll buy returning this one and buying a new one and trying it out. I'll update with the new unit
