Beast of a Laptop with some minor quirks
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start this review by saying that this is my first gaming laptop ever coming from a Sony Vaio laptop from crusaders age with an i5-4200U CPU and GT-740M GPU. So this is a significant upgrade from that. I bought this laptop when it was on sale for 1550$ (missed the 1500$ one) and using it for 3 months now. My batch is M6 one, so this is in the batches in which ASUS updated their Liquid Metal application and are using less of it. Pros: 1. Good Display. 300Hz is best utilized by FPS and Competitive games like Rainbow Six Siege, CS:GO, Valorant, Fortnite, etc. 2. Games run buttery smooth with everything cranked to Ultra. 3. Good Trackpad and a solid Keyboard which is cool to the touch even when gaming for hours. 4. Smaller dimensions than competing laptops (in Length and Width, but thicker than the rest) 5. Battery life is good although I've been mostly using it plugged in. 6. You will not find a laptop with this performance at this price anywhere (competes with a Mobile 3080 and handily beats Mobile 3070) CONS: 1. Design may not be for everybody (especially for office or school use). I suggest changing the red plate with a translucent one (you can go even further by using a black cover on the lid to hide ASUS logo) to tone its aggressive looks, although some people may like it as it is. 2. Heavy and a thicc boi. 2. No MUX or Multiplexer switch. This reduces the performance by 10% to 13%. You can bypass this by connecting an external monitor via USB-C port but this defeats the purpose of a laptop. 3. Still have my doubts about Liquid Metal application as it can seep out anytime and fry the laptop. 4. Came with slower RAM. I exchanged my slower Ram with a faster one for 50$. it increased the cost but performance gain on average is 8% to 10%. 5. Runs hot Temps: CPU: 90-93° playing R6, 95° when playing control. Definitely hot but using Ryzen Controller, I set the limit to 85°. Performance dip is negligible. GPU: hovers between 77-82°. Benchmarks (ULTRA everything, Turbo Mode) Slower Ram: Rainbow Six Siege: 225 fps Shadow of the Tomb Raider: 103 fps Death Stranding: 115 to 125 fps Control: 90-95 fps Timespy (Overall): 10700 After RAM upgrade: R6S: 252 fps SotTR: 124 fps Death Stranding: 130-145 fps BFV: DX12: 150 fps, DX11: 100-115 fps Timespy: 11600 FPS drops only by 3 to 5 frames when using performance mode but fan noise is significantly less. Overall, if you can live with some of its quirks like no MUX or slower RAM (which can be upgraded later), this is a beast and one of the best bang for buck laptops you can buy.

Great looking, portable, smooth gaming
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Black slim sleek minimal packaging. Laptop power cable and brick. Small box with documents. A shiny metallic bracket that can be switched out withthe red bracket on the laptop henges. The power brick is still larger than I’d like but the cable has a good length to it. The laptop is thin and a bit heavier than expected but definitely smaller than their usual gaming laptops. The lid was simple and easy to lift there was slight resistance. The keyboard and screen were protected by cloth that I plan to keep using. The keyboard had multicolored rgb lighting and white wasd keys that’s a really nice touch. The rgb lighting is muted and is not distracting, it does cycle through colors. The keys have a nice spring to them but will most defiantly need to be wiped down for smudges from finger print oils. The keys are really snappy though and I love the feel of it. The power key is a firm slightly raised button I like that you get feedback from pushing to know you selected it and it had an indicator light. The speakers are in the center of the laptop. The touch pad is large centered and quite responsive. I do not have trouble clicking to select just as the keys on the keyboard are responsive and are clicky. I can glide and across and type quite fast on the eyes. The clicky response did not slow me down while typing away. Boot up on the laptop is fast. First boot up the republics of gamers swooshing sound is kind of loud. Went through a ton of software updates with several restarts. The laptop did come with a bunch of bloatware that I had to remove. The fan is a tad loud I’d say a 7/10. Going through the bios settings I was able to turn off the audio of the swoosh which made the boot up way more pleasing. After updating and uninstalling unwanted software a keyboard bios update request popped up, the process was quick about five minutes and kicked on the fans. Once the bios update was completed the laptop restarted. Browsing the web is normal experience the brightness is a bit muted with the laptop on default settings. Youtube videos play quickly and the volume button is in the perfect spot on the left hand side for a quick adjustments video movie watching on the laptop is overall great, and doesn’t strain your eyes. The sound is okay, good for a laptop but does leave you wishing for better. Headphones really is the way to go. Battery life with normal mixed usage was about little over 3 hours. Made quick work of installing steam and a few games. Download speeds on wifi are typical speeds. Playing a game wreckfest in full screen display was pleasing and easy to get going. Played on default graphics setting with a meditate of medium, ultra, high and low. Game ran smooth no issues was super pleased with how smooth the game ran. Colors were still a bit muted on default settings but were easy on the eyes. Having the white wasd keys made it easy to jump right two and key texture was comfy did not slide off. USB ports are on the left hand side (2 ports) of the laptop which just wrapping around the back side and bringing the cable to the right side was actually awesome. It helps to avoid bumping into the cable or port with the mouse. There are also port options along the back of the laptop for the mouse with a usb a, c, hdmi, either net and power cable. I traveled with the laptop for work (quick on the go) and it worked rather well for on the go gaming. The touch pad is pretty sensitive but a good size and smack dab in the middle. With the weight the laptop is great for portable on the go movie/ gaming laptop it’s exactly what I was looking for. I do wish the power brick was a tad lighter but due to the purposes of the laptop it’s reasonable.

Not bad!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off its affordable. It works fine just a couple of upgrades and you have a gaming beast. I like the cooling system we can just say it works. I can't give a dislike yet because I only just got it. I will give more when I get more.

Great for gaming with good battery life
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked this up when it was on sale for $1,150, and it’s a great value. Mine was manufactured in 10/21 and came with the better memory with faster timings so I didn’t have to replace anything. It’s as good as the 3070 Alienware X17 R1 I had.

Randomly reboots for no apparent reason.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can see why this laptop quickly got so many "Open Box - Excellent" versions, it's because it randomly reboots for no apparent reason and people are returning these defective laptops. DO NOT BUY the OPEN BOX ones, they are very likely plauged with this issue. Windows Event Viewer isn't helpful for figuring out what's wrong. It spits out the generic "Well, your computer shut down, there might be something wrong, good luck with that!" Turning off "Automatic restart after system error" doesn't stop the reboots either. I hope Best Buy doesn't give me grief for returning this because there's no way to prove something is wrong with it other than the vague Windows Event logs.

Beast of a machine!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Cannot be beat for the price. I have a Ryzen 5800x with a RTX 3080 desktop beast of a machine and haven't touched it since I picked this up. Purchase a 10.00 laptop riser from another site for air flow and paired with my Elite 2 controller. This with Xbox game pass cannot be beat.

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great all AMD laptop with a 300Hz screen, Freesync, and the power to run many games 1080p around 300fps to match the screen. Serious issues, ASUS needs to do better QA
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really want to love this machine. It hits all the key notes, on paper; Great value, great performance, great look. That said, I just received mine and am having issues similar to what many apparently are encountering. Fresh off the box, it started crashing, each time it's a blue screen with a different error code. I've done two fresh reinstalls, so that makes it 3 iterations of fresh windows 10 I've attempted, and the same thing occurs. The problem deepens as you attempt to reinstall the ASUS software, you get non-responding installations of key components, and armoury crate will not install. The short time I've had it running, performance has been nowhere near advertised and benchmarked in other reviewers or demo's. Battery life itself, is a measily 3 hours watching youtube videos, far cry from the 8-10 hrs expected. I'm kicking myself because this is my second ASUS purchase in a short time. I had previously bought a 2020 RTX2060 Zephyrus G14, and problems started occurring 8 months in, worsening towards the end of the 1 year warranty period. I had actually set up an RMA and did not follow through because I'd be without a laptop for a month, and sure enough almost to the day warranty expired my LCD screen suddenly died. ASUS of course said I was out of luck, would not even consult with me over the phone. So why do I mention this? Because if this is the starting point with this STRIX g15, the future does not hold confidence for this laptop. So I'm sure some will have good luck, but I'd say buyer beware.

Posted .Dear Konnana, Certainly, we understand your disappointment with the notebook crashing. This is absolutely not the kind of experience we want any of our customers to have. Can you please elaborate on what's happening with the LCD screen, it is just black? Can you confirm that if when you connect an external monitor to the notebook do you see anything? I will be letting the related department know about this concern for continuous improvements to the product line. Had to return, not worth the hassle.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Honestly, I don't know why everyone is going crazy over this laptop, it's really not anything special... The performance was similar to a 3060 in my testing, not close to a 3070 or 3080 at all. Many games were also just not running well at all on this laptop. To me, this seems like a very rushed product and it's simply just not worth the hassle. Battery life was excellent though. I ended up returning it a week after buying it and bought a zephyrus g14 instead, the 3060 in that laptop was easily getting 20-30 percent more frames in games with the same settings.

Very bad experience, can't even use it normally.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I order this ROG laptop purchased on July 23, I received it on July 28.,I will first say that this computer's heat dissipation design has a serious problem, as long as the temperature exceeds 80 degrees, it will crash within 2 minutes, and then automatically restart.. I like to play Pubg,Ultra settings have an average of 130 frames,But every 10 seconds will have a serious lag and falling frame. The frame rate will fall to about 30 frames, then recover, very very bad experience.I am trying to update the driver and system now, letting its software have the latest, if it is still the same tomorrow, I plan to return, or have ASUS official personnel to contact me, help me solve it?

Asus lost their minds
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Biggest complaint is that thr 6800 isnt independent from the cpu. Also only way to get full gpu power is to plug it into a monitor. Its a laptop, if i wanted a desktop I would have got one. Asus messed up by going the cheap way by passing gpu through the apu

6800M GPU Bios was corrupt. - Code 43
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.CHECK DEVICE MANAGER!!! The 6800M GPU Bios was corrupt. When I went to device manager, there was an error with the GPU, code 43, and the GPU was disabled. There was no way to re-flash the GPU's bios. I did complete all Windows updates and ASUS's updates and also made sure the latest divers from AMD were installed. There was a Hotfix for the VBios on ASUS's support page, but it never worked and was quickly taken down off the site. I waited a few days to see it there were any new updates and nothing. I returned it and bought the HP OMEN - 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070. Model:15-ek1013dx

Bestbuy sold defective open box item
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very excited to finally get a laptop that’s full on AMD with smart access memory. Been waiting for it for over a year now, and due to the shortage of these laptop at launch I was only to be able to get a open box item, however, The excitement of finally get my hand on one of these were high until I realized bestbuy sold me a defective laptop. Figure they would test it out and review all the contents in the box before putting it back on the shell and sell it again. And the worst part of it they did nothing when I’m trying to address their open item issue. Called corporate the phone stay on elevator music for 30 minutes, contact them through Facebook, it show nothing but tell you to wait, that was almost a months ago I contacted them through social media. Bestbuy handle this issue is Disappointing, hope you find this useful if you are looking to buy a open box item from bestbuy
