Screen is really nice running at 300hz. Nice top metal finish. Getting ROG keys to work with software can be a pain sometimes. Doesnt come with ROG tools installed but mine was a open box so that might be why. What is required to get the most out of this laptop. 1. Upgrade the memory is a must. You can gain up to 20% in performance. You can use memory kit F4-3200C16D-16GRS. 2. Use an external monitor that takes Display and buy a usb c to displayport adapter. You can gain about 10% performance depending on game. 3. Get a laptop cooling pad as it allows laptop to run cooler buy allowing it to breath better and get a little more air. The results in the laptop pushing to max wattage without feeling hotter as you are dissipating heating quicker. This will increase laptop life.

Read the good and bad reviews. Decided to try it anyways. Glad I did. I wasn't getting any of the issues with bsod, crashing reboots, bleeding. I did upgrade the RAM to maximize performance. Did upgrade to a larger ssd. Played several games. Performance is far better than my razer blade. Excellent value. There are some compromises at this price range but that is mainly cosmetic. Freesync works great makes games look nice and smooth tear free. As a previous review said don't be in a rush to set it up. All it to do it's setup and updates, and update the bios as that fixes alot of issues also. This thing is about 1000 cheaper than the laptop I was going to get and performs just as good.

If you can find this machine, get it! It's a beast. Hands down the BEST gaming laptop out there. It beats any 3070 and can keep up with the 3080 with no issue. Games run smooth and have been hitting great FPS in 1080p. Those that gave 1-2 start rating because of no mux switch or camera are obviously clueless. This machine does not need it. Get a second monitor to bypass and see max gpu performance on a 4k screen. Would recommend to anyone. For the price and high end specs, you cannot go wrong. I maybe another one when they come back in stock.

I bought this laptop to use whenever I go on vacation and need a computer that can hold up playing heavy hardware games. It does have some issues with low vram/quality but all around it has held up it's price and I would recommend this to anyone who needs a spare piece of hardware for on the go.

this is a great machine for those looking for max value of your money. 6800M is a beast GPU and with upgrading your ram it will blow away even full power 3070 However cons are also very obvious. 1080p display with plastic build quality. Personally I am not a fan of how the machine feels like but hey if you plus it into an external monitor all those issues go away By the way like all recent Asus gaming laptop this thing has amazing battery life

I absolutely love this laptop. I haven't had a single issue with it yet. Highly recommend it to anyone in the media production industry and also into gaming. This thing is powerful to say the least. I game and design on a 31" 2k monitor and get great fps, and responsive edits on all Adobe products all day long. I've now been using this machine for a year now and wanted to wait to post this review. I've to date had only one blue screen crash and that was due to a faulty driver I installed. I did update to windows 11 from 10 and wish I hadn't. I would suggest not doing that unless you absolutely want to. When I got the laptop, I immediately upgraded the ram to 16gb of high quality ram, and installed a second 1tb ssd. Everything was easy as plugging it in and booting it back up. The only thing I ran into was a bit of trouble figuring out how to unplug the two ribbons that power the side rgb lights. Be very careful with those! All in all it had been a great laptop!

Performance is great, both CPU and GPU, after small modifications. Removed a star because of the following... Modifications 1. Removed ASUS AMD drivers and software, installed AMD version. 2. Left side exhaust was expelling air, however left rear wasn't. Removed bottom laptop panel, noticed the blower on the left had a thin plastic liner blocking the rear exhaust. I removed the blower, tucked the liner under the blower as it is on the right side... boom AIR!!! Performance 3D Mark 11150 (APU and Platform sPPT Max, 100% fan @ 80c, No External Display)

This is my first AMD system in a long time and certainly the first I have had in an long time with an AMD GPU in it. The 6800M GPU in this machine is what you could called "overpowered" for the screen....except, wait for it, the screen is 300Hz if you did not get that by the huge "300Hz" on the thumbnail picture. The combination of this screen with this GPU are really amazing to game on. If you play twitch games that require accurate, exacting, and quick placement of your shots, this will blow your mind at how quick the game reactions are. I do use this laptop at work as well, so I changed out the red corner cover for the silver one and you can easily turn off the RGB goodness quickly from just a couple of keystrokes. So yes, I can make it not look like a gaming godbox at work. Not that I would ever use it for gaming at work... They keyboard on the G15 Advantage works excellently as well. Being this is a 15" laptop, I was expecting the keyboard to be cramped up but ASUS got it right with its key spacing and size. Along with a solid trackpad too. Good for work but the CS:GO team mates will pat you on the back for the on target flick shots.

I was afraid of purchasing this laptop after all the bad reviews on the GPU (Most likely because of the liquid metal). After two weeks of gaming on it, i haven't had any problems with it (crossing my fingers). Im upgrading from my lenovo y700 and this is a great laptop! More than enough power for me and my games. I like the design and all the rgb. Keyboard feels good and the trackpad is nice and big. The 1080p screen is awesome! IMO you don't really need anything higher than 1080p on a 15in laptop. I don't notice a difference from 1080 to 1440 or 4k plus it saves battery. Im already spoiled by the 300hz refresh rate as it is! It runs my ultrawide freesync monitor well but i do recommend to use the usb-c display output and buy a usb-c to displayport cable. The usb-c is wired directly to the 6800 and noticed a performance difference compared to the hdmi. My only cons are RAM (this is well documented already and will be upgrading) and storage. 512gb is not enough, as soon as i booted into the desktop, it was showing 46% of the capacity used. Overall great laptop but you'll be playing lottery with this one seeing the failure rates.

This is an excellent gaming a laptop. It's almost perfect for me: Pros: -Great performance when plugged into a monitor (direct GPU to monitor) -Thermals and noise are well controlled -Asus Armory Crate software is great for customization and controller thermals/fans etc. Works well -The display is great, bright colors, crisp, and bright. -The speakers are surprisingly good -Charges via USB-C -Fantastic battery performance (8-10 hours doing regular tasks) Cons -The material on the lid and inside pick up oil from your fingers and is difficult to remove, kind of a minor thing but it bothers me a lot. -No MUX switch -No Web cam I had to take my unit back since the backlit keyboard didn't work. I think if the coating was oil resistant and it had MUX it would be perfect. AMD Advantage combo of CPU/CPU is superior to nvidia/intel in my mind, Smart Shift works pretty well and will only get better. Really hope asus makes more "AMD advantage edition" laptops.

*Note my last laptop was HP OMEN-15 1660 Ti, 4800H It's price is nice but with what the laptop lacks will basically make the laptop cost $1800(I would wait for price reduction, $1499). Stock RAM is slow, recommend upgrade. Lacks Mux Switch, true GPU potential missing out. HOWEVER, It is a beast. I love the CPU and how both temps stay cool when on high load. (BeamNG & Universe Sandbox.). The asus software and its features I really love compared to OMEN(just my preference). I mainly love this laptop for its CPU since the games I play are CPU intensive. The GPU is great as well but it'll be better with external display. Battery is amazing when not plugged in. With all power saving options enabled I'm able to watch YouTube and listening to music for 6/7 hours. Only issue I'm having is it likes to restart for no reason on desktop but never while gaming. No blue screens or dead GPU(as people are reporting). Unless you're a AMD fan I would settle for a 3070 laptop with this CPU. (If I were to switch too, but this laptop will be with me for the years to come)

    Powerful Laptop

First off I will say that this laptop is a beast. It can run fallout 4 at 60fps in downtown Boston even with the high resolution texture pack and with the ultra graphics preset. It actually can get higher but the games physics mess up. On ultra graphics it runs NMS at 80 fps on planet and at about 130 off planet. The Rx 6800m graphics card only runs at about 60% in this game according to task manager. That is significantly better than my old gtx 1050 ti Intel i7 7700hq based laptop. I set the battery to charge up to 60% max and it still lasts through a whole school day (I take notes on it(Joplin Notes btw)). The display is a bit overkill on the refresh rate unless you are playing e-sports titles. The CPU is really strong too in CPU bound games. Overall this is an extremely good laptop and I recommend it to anyone that wants the best bang for the buck. The only way I wouldn't recommend this is if you really care about ray tracing (I might care about it in a few future graphics card generations. Doesn't really add much immersion to me personally.)

Great performance for the Price. Just needs better Ram. Down side is that you need to use the USB-C port to bypass the IGPU and get better performance by connecting directly to the 6800M. Looks and build quality is good. Best bang for the buck at the moment. This will be better once it gets fine tuned with future updates.

Frankly, if you buy this laptop you NEED to repaste it. The inside had the liquid metal spread way too close to all the bits. BUT if you do this then dear gawd this laptop slaps. It to me is nicknamed IcyHot. It stays cool through the toughest of AAA tiles and hovers around 87-91. Seeing as the 5900x has a thermal limit of 96c it is right in the pocket, but more so is this thing pulls 340W from the wall from a 280W power supply. I have never seen this before and while being concerned is an option I am simply blown away by the performance. This is why it gets 5 stars, one away for the compound but one back for the performance. Get on this ROG!

Pretty happy with this laptop so far. I do wish it had a larger SSD but I'm planning on pairing it with an external hard drive to store my game collection. It performs exceptionally well for the price, I have it set to the most extreme battery saver settings, silent running mode and power efficiency settings I could and it still is outperforming my desktop running a 2700X and RX580 by a wide margin. I also used the black armor piece instead of the red one and turned off the RGB so I could use it for work. It is much less obviously a "gaming" laptop that way. The screen is very nice, I had almost no back light bleed or inconsistency. The colors are great and it is plenty bright for my usage. I tend to work in a dimmer room so I have the screen set to the lowest brightness. The chassis is solid, I had no complaints and liked it much better than my work issued Dell laptop that cost more than this Asus. The keyboard felt great to type on, I think I like it more than my logitech keyboard! I would recommend this laptop to anyone looking for a powerful laptop and a decent price.

Powerful Collaborative Effort Between AMD & Asus

Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Hey guys, I did quite a bit of research before purchasing this laptop after my previous laptop finally failed. I upgraded from a Sager P770ZM-G with an Intel i7 4790K and an NVIDIA GTX 980M. After I finished reading reviews from the various forums / media and watching reviews on YouTube shortly before this laptop was released to the public, it appeared to be quite the value. It is packed with high-end components that work together in a synergistic manner with their AMD SmartShift and Smart Access features. The computer is about the perfect everyday size while maintaining the ability to have efficient thermals and not sacrifice the power of its high-end components, notably the Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU and Radeon RX 6800m GPU. Asus and AMD partnered in a collaborative effort with the "Advantage Program". With the new Vapor Chamber combined with the Liquid Metal used for both the Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU and Radeon RX 6800M GPU, it keeps the system stable, relatively quiet for a gaming laptop and I did not experience thermal throttling. The panel is very nice with accurate color and slim bezels. I do wish the panel was a bit brighter and I would have preferred the QHD 1440p panel if it were available. For e-sports and FPS games though, the 300hz panel is nice. The lid is aluminum and the deck feels like it is aluminum, but it may be plastic. The bottom of the laptop is plastic. As for the RGB, I would rather have a really powerful laptop that appears more subdued like a business computer, but that is subjective and I can get over it. The keyboard provides a nice feel, is not too loud and I appreciate the media and quick launch buttons. The trackpad is really smooth and the clicks are pretty even across the trackpad. I am spoiled by my wife's Macbook Pro trackpad though. I believe some people are mistakenly providing poor GPU reviews and do not realize the primary GPU will be the integrated Radeon Vega 8 GPU unless the system needs to use the dedicated Radeon RX 6800m GPU. My 3DMARK Time Spy Score was almost 11000 points with a greater than 11000+ GPU and 9200+ CPU Scores. Reviews are showing a substantial bottleneck, with up to a 20% performance decline in some instances with the included single-rank RAM due to its poor secondary timings. Simply adding better JEDEC 3200Mhz dual-rank RAM will wake this beast to compete with and sometimes beat RTX 3080 cards, although RTX 3080 cards with higher TGP still beat it by a bit. The cost substantially more though, sometimes by up to $1000. Pros: Full AMD System for Access to AMD SmartShift and Smart Access Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU Radeon RX 6800m GPU Audio is Nice with Dolby Atmos Nice Panel with Accurate Colors and a Slim Bezel Cons: Lack of a MUX Switch Wish It Had an All Metal Construction Wish It Had USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Misleading System Memory with Single-Rank RAM and Slow Secondary Timings. (This system is sensitive to RAM timings) A Bit Small SSD with Mediocre Write Speeds for an NVMe (I had 3200 Read and 1650 Write) A Bit Too "Gamer" Looking for My Tastes (Subjective) I am quite happy to see AMD / Radeon returning to the forefront and providing competition to both Intel and NVIDIA. I believe Lisa Su is great at what she does and the company provides a lot of great benefits to the computer industry via open source, i.e. FreeSync and their newly released FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) vs NVIDIA's proprietary G-Sync and DLSS technologies. In closing, I am going to purchase better JEDEC 3200Mhz dual-rank RAM and a 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe SSD for this laptop and call it good. With the upgrades, it would still be a great value and I think it is the best value on the market at the moment. I like what AMD is doing with the "Advantage Program" and look forward to what they do next. Hope this helps and good luck!

Amazing value for the money. screen is gorgeous and the vapor chamber does a great job of keeping temps under control. Some will complain at the lack of the mux switch but I actually prefer it this way for the automatic battery optimization as I use an external qhd monitor when at home and it’s nice to simply unplug and use it on the go. The battery is incredible and you can easily get 8-10hrs of real world usage. I have one of the newer production units and have not had any rebooting or GPU issues that were frequent at launch. Highly recommended.
