Customers are impressed with the ROG Zephyrus 14" Gaming Laptop's performance, graphics capabilities, and long battery life. Many appreciate its compact size, portability, and lightweight design, making it ideal for those on the go. However, some users note that the device can get warm and produce noticeable fan noise during use. The lack of a webcam and some concerns about the keyboard backlight are also mentioned.

Great computer, accurate to the Linus Tech Tips Youtube review. What I would change is to add a webcam, brighten the lights on the backlit keyboard, and longer battery life. Otherwise, lightweight, sleek, and the specs are unmatched to any laptop within the same price range.

Cons: - No built-in webcam - No ethernet port - Ports are awkwardly positioned due to the ventilation design; ports are left/right edge only and toward the front - 2 USB-A type ports; right side only - HDMI is in the front half of the left side rather than toward the back corner or even along the back edge - Proprietery power source located in the middle of left side instead of a corner; accepts USB-C power so why not just give us a USB-C power supply? - Screen props the laptop up for ventilation when tilted beyond 90° but also prevents Asus designers from putting any connectors along the back edge - Laptop does run hot while gaming (but stabilizes); warmth can be felt across the keyboard Pros: - Relatively quiet fans given how hard they work to cool the laptop during gaming; F5 key allows for quick changing of the fan level: Silent v. Performance; runs silent when "just a normal computer" - Illuminated keyboard; Animated LED lid - 1TB SSD - 2 USB-C SS10 ports (left USB-C includes DisplayPort/charging) - Power button is also biometric (fingerprint) sign-on - Quick buttons for volume up/down, mic on/off, and "Armoury Crate" app - Armoury Crate app is a great single point of reference for all the configuration options and statistics you need for your gaming (or daily) PC experience - Pre-sets for different gaming environments/types - When not gaming, this computer is SILENT and cool - Better than average, upward and downward firing internal speakers; 3.5mm audio jack - Wireless display allows you to connect to a widi enabled TV or device (i.e. "chromecast" or Roku); widi results were impressive but only tested with streaming TV/YouTube - Wifi 6 - Super crisp display with minimal glare - Decent weight/comfort/sturdiness The performance on this laptop is spectacular. {Devil May Cry 5 was played to test the laptop for this review.} All my other laptops have been Intel. This is my first AMD cpu in well over 15 years. The Ryzen 9 cpu delivers. 16GB (8GB soldered + 8GB DDR4 slot) of RAM is adequate for now. The Asus website claims this model can be upgraded to "max 24GB." Only allowing +16GB DDR4 chip seems odd. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If you are worried about the RAM upgrade option, you may want to seek out clarification. Graphics are very clean, crisp and colorful. No glitching/artifacts, no freezing, no lag. The feature filled Armoury Crate app lets you see and customize your machine's performance. I don't tweak, so Armoury Crate's presets are a nice option as I can quickly flip between display modes for different performance or viewing environments. Although it does run hot (but levels out) while gaming, the fans are much quieter than my previous gaming laptop (MSI, 4 yrs old). The fans stay silent when you are just "using it as a normal computer." If only this laptop had a webcam and a USB-C universal power supply, it would be the perfect 5-star student/office/gaming device at a very reasonable price point. However, since BB won't allow half stars, I'll go ahead and round up this 4.5-star review due to the ROG Zephyrus outstanding performance.

So... the only reason I'm giving this a 3 star, and not a 5 star is because the first G14 I bought had some issues with the screen going blank randomly so I returned it. The second one I received I had some issues with the AMD R9 - 5900hs driver. Once I updated everything through Windows 10 and AMD there was an issue with compatibility between the processor and integrated graphics card. The reason for this was because when I updated Windows again it kept rolling back the AMD update. I resolved this by downloading the Windows hide updates tool. This is a pretty poor fix in my opinion as you cannot just 'tell' Windows or AMD to either remove the Windows update or force AMD to not allow it. There are several websites telling you how to do just that, but it did not work on my G14. I also believe that update being rolled back was the reason for the screen going black in the original one I bought, but I could be wrong. Pros: The G14 runs games at near max settings (like really near). Never lags, and the display is good for 1080p. Refresh rate is good and is easy on my eyes so far. Super fast processor. RTX 3060 is awesome for gaming (doesn't get hot from what I've seen so far ~75c on average). 1TB of memory is nice Cons: The compatibility issue mentioned above. No camera (sucks for Zoom users such as myself). Processor gets hot (~ 83-90c) when running current games (although AMD claims these are acceptable ranges). Pretty much needs a laptop cooler if you want temps in an acceptable range. Some games require a forced resolution compatibly (tries to run at a lower resolution) but this could just be an issue with the games. In closing it's a buy for me. Best gaming laptop for it's price. I tried other comparable laptops after the first one I returned and they where no where near as good. So if you're tech savvy and can figure out the compatibility issues this is the laptop for you!

I purchased this after debating in what I wanted in my gaming life. After several failed attempts at getting an Xbox series X, I started thinking about a new PC since mine was really outdated. I had been gaming some on a Surface Pro 7 while I was trying to decide and I really liked the flexibility to game anywhere in my home. That lead me to this machine, and I couldn't be more pleased!! It's completely replaced my Xbox and desktop and I don't have to hook/un-hook a bunch of cables to game in another room. It's all I need for a reasonable price. The only things that bother me are the white light behind the keyboard makes it harder to see the keys (color option would be great) and the heat. This thing gets hot! And I've only been playing Diablo 3 on it. I bought a cooling pad and it helps some. It also has some fan noise, but that doesn't bother me. This machine is awesome!

Overall, this is a solid gaming laptop with a great CPU and GPU, especially at the price-point, with some caveats. 4.5/5.0 The pros: - Great CPU, great GPU, and a good amount of storage space - Sufficient RAM for most things - Single upgrade-able RAM slot - Build quality is great and feels very solid - The unboxing experience was surprisingly enjoyable. The cons: - Two RAM slots but one is soldered in, meaning you can only upgrade one stick. - Definitely runs hot and gets loud if you're running intense gaming. - Lots of software configurations. It came with a lot of bloatware that you have to uninstall to get the UI cleaned up. - Hardware configurations, it's unfortunate, but to prevent the laptop from getting too loud or too hot, you'll have to go in and tweak the settings to limit overall performance. Not exactly noticeable, but it does add another layer of setting up to do.

The Bad things first: (Nothing that stops it from still getting my 5 star rating!) - Backlit Keyboard is terrible. How do you light up letters on a silver keyboard?! This is definitely a fail. I turn it off most the time and crank it up to the max when I have to work in the dark. The letter coverage isn't that great either. - There is a very slight ghosting effect noticeable in some games using the laptop screen. I usually use my external monitor for Gaming which takes care of the ghosting effect. The Good things: - Phenomenal value! - Perfect size ( Not too big, not too small) - Played any game I threw at it! - Great battery especially when you turn off the GPU. - Matt screen always a plus. - Great amount of ports - Already offers 2 x Thunderbolt 4 ports! - That AMD processor rocks ! - You can set it up using it as a daily driver for office work and the fan won't even come on and the battery lasts all day! None of my MSI laptops I owned were ever able to do that! - You can toggle the graphics card and you can play away! By default it is turned on. - Quality feel! - Great shape I owned MSI's all my life, ASUS really pulled off a great one with this one. You can literally use this unit as a daily work driver and as a Gaming machine! It is just fantastic. The value is unbeatable! I can only recommend this laptop to anybody, NOT just gamers !!!! What you need to know about upgrading: - 1x8 GB Memory is soldered on the mainboard, the other one can be replaced - The SSD is replacable!

This laptop is excellent. There is no other laptop that is this small, that packs this kind of performance. I can play just about any modern AAA game with great framerates and high settings (most at the highest). Not only that, but as a whole package everything works well. Great battery life, the system sleeps when it should, the keyboard is good, the screen is good, the trackpad is good, the speakers are good, etc.. etc. I can't say that about other laptops I have tried. Ok - no webcam is really ridiculous. What would have that cost to add? $5? Please asus, all laptops - even gaming ones should have a webcam in 2021. That aside, really happy with this machine. Recommended.

Compared to the previous years G14 with the RTX2060 this one has more reflective labels. It looks cool and flashy but that is exactly why I took it back. It says steal me now. To someone who needs a desktop replacement at home and want a RTX3060 this is a great desktop alternative. I would not suggest it over last years model unless its staying out of public areas. The RTX 3060 is better but it is still a laptop and limits the max performance to manage thermals just like last years. This version is the one to get for your girlfriend if they want to switch to a PC gaming laptop platform that has better performance than their Macbook at the expense of a little fan noise and extra heat.

Absolutely amazing laptop! Powerful machine in a small platform. They keyboard feels good, battery life is up to 10 hrs on battery saver mode and igpu turned on. Super fast and great gameplay. No stutters or problems when playing warzone. Paired to my bluetooth xbox controller, who needs to wait for a new console when this works great. It's portable, a powerhouse and just all in all the best machine made. The SSD is fast, it multitasks great. I've had no problems playing with video editing software, or photo editing. The only improvements that could be made would be a thunderbolt port and a microsd card slot. But for the price it's an absolute monster of a machine.

Great size, if you’re looking for portability and power this should be a top choice! The go-to on the go 14”. The Ryzen 5900 paired with the 60w RTX 3060 handled my gaming uses very well, however I didn’t play anything too demanding. It does get VERY HOT and VERY LOUD even just browsing the web/checking emails. It’s a MUST to tweak the settings to your comfort in Armoury Crate. The G14 left me wanting a bigger and better screen. I decided to return mine and opt to get the G15. I will miss the size of the G14.

My son, an avid computer gamer who usurped MY home-built desktop, is heading off to college. His engineering program requires a Windows based laptop to run their software. We decided that smaller is better and I did not want to completely cut off his ability to relax with a gaming session. As an aside, trust me when I say I’d prefer he get involved at school and future financial support is contingent on grades. But that’s the dad talking and my own college career wasn’t always focused on altruism and academics. So here we are. Enter the Zephyrus 14”. Not a whole lot bigger than a MacBook Air, it checks the small size box. The inclusion of a dedicated video card (Nvidia RTX 3060) gives it the ability to run games well and handle any tasks written for a graphical processing unit (GPU). The AMD Ryzen 9 laptop CPU is likewise a very capable AND power efficient platform. The 16 GB of RAM (user expandable to 24 GB, I believe) and 1 terabyte solid state drive (SSD) means data will flow quickly when multitasking or running data intensive applications or spreadsheets. Plug in an external keyboard and monitor and you almost wouldn’t know you’re using a laptop. When you think about it, it is truly amazing that they can pack this much computer into such a small package at this price. This laptop rivals desktop computers in capabilities and we can’t really even buy advanced desktop GPUs at the moment. Given the trend in favor for smaller, more user friendly do-it-all devices, I wonder if the age of desktops for anyone but hobbiests is winding down (over?). Not all is roses, however. The price for all this power is heat. And there can be a lot. Pay attention that you do not block the cooling fan vents by playing games with the laptop on, well, your lap. If you are going to put this laptop to serious use or live in warm areas you may want to pick up a cooling mat to help dissipate the heat when at home base. The display is “only” 1920 x 1080. That’s high definition (HD), not 2K or 4K, TV. But seriously, it’s a 14” display. Unless your day job is being a red tailed hawk, I doubt you’d see the difference and the higher refresh rate easily makes up for it. In practice, my son loves the Zephyrus. We got it a few weeks early so we could shake out any bugs or issues of which there has been none. He’s thrown his games at it and everything works as advertised. Albeit with the heat noted above. So a solid thumbs up to this little, but entirely capable, do it all laptop. Note that if you do not want to run games OR have demanding application, this is overkill. For probably half the cost you could get a laptop that runs basic windows apps (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and handles internet tasks just fine. If all you really want is access to the internet and basic tools ( and you have a internet connection) consider a chrome book as a much cheaper option or an iPad for a nearly as expensive but more expansive user experience, especially is you’re already carrying an iPhone or are in the Macintosh world. In closing - I have no financial interest in Best Buy whatsoever. Period. That said, support your brick and mortar stores. Best Buy will pretty much price match anybody. I ordered online, an hour later it was ready, they walked it out to my car. Done. If you like to touch, see, listen, walk in to return products, consider supporting brick and mortar stores before buying online for not much cheaper. Ok, soap box put away.

This is my first foray into gaming laptops and also somewhat compact computers. My previous laptop was an Acer A515-51G with a 15.6" screen. This thing is miniature by comparison. Costing nearly 3x as much and being 3 years newer, it also blows it out of the water in literally any performance measure. It's also a little chunky and made of magnesium, which gives it an overall sturdy feel. Maybe it's just because of my point of reference, but I'm thoroughly impressed by this machine. I'm WFH at the moment, and when I'm using this for work stuff this computer runs completely silent (fans are off). Gaming, they get kind of loud, and the computer warm to the touch, but it's manageable.

Pros: Powerful and portable. Build quality is solid. Screen is better than last year. Cons: Keyboard (still looks cheap, keys wiggle slightly, power button wasn't centered on my unit, backlight is better this year but still 6/10), and heat (more on this below). This laptop runs hot, which makes sense given its components and size. After 2 hours in warzone, the area above the keyboard was too hot to touch. Ultimately returned it because of this. Overall this wasn't the right fit for me, despite being a very capable machine.

I had one of these for a bit to tryout for school. It was primarily for schoolwork, but also so I could still keep competing in esports while visiting family. Computer worked phenomenally, though I didn’t quite like how how hot the keyboard got. The actual temperatures for the CPU and GPU were fine however. Battery life was impressive, though I wasn’t fond of the backlighting due to the same reasons others have complained. Trackpad was small, though it is a 14”. In the end, I returned it and got a G15. The benefits I felt I gained with the G15 is trackpad size, better keyboard lighting, and piece of mind about a second M.2 slot. I also just think typing is better on the G15 due to the extra space on the sides. The G15 has actually replaced my desktop (8700k 1070 16gb) and I am currently using a USB Type C to Display port, along with a USB hub. I can say with confidence this is an incredibly competent gaming device for games like overwatch and Minecraft. This laptop handles everything my desktop did and more, without feeling like I’m playing on a laptop (I’ve used a Razerblade Pro FHD and an older bulky asus laptop that had a 965m) though I’m sure I may feel a bit differently is my desktop was newer. If you’re the type to always get the bigger device, I’d skip on this and get the G15. The extra real estate makes a difference. If you are the type to like small laptops like a 13”, or you desperately need the portability and are willing to lose what the G15 offers, then I would go with the G14. Overall with the Zephyrus G14 and G15, I’d definitely recommend this lineup to students and professionals before gamers. The problem is that this is a thin and light, there are other laptops out there that will perform better just because of sacrifices that were made to get this thinner. If you’re playing esports titles, I could see it, but I wouldn’t recommend this for any hardcore gamers unless this is supplementary. If you aren’t taking advantage of its portability, there are just better laptops coming out. For those that need the power and portability, this is it.

I missed out on the $2500 version of this laptop with all the bells and whistles, so I bought this one instead. So far so good, leagues better than my old budget “gamer” laptop. Pros: - Portable, lighter than expected - Clean-looking laptop with no gaudy logos - No issues running Genshin on high settings - No issues running ArcGIS - Adjustable power and fan settings Cons: - It gets hot when gaming/running programs, but the turbo fans do help - If you’re going to do some major gaming/coding/etc. all the time, you may run into more problems tl;dr this thing does everything I want to with no lag so I’m happy :)

So flaws first. For those intending to use this as a desktop replacement do note that you can not game with the lid closed, the screen must be open to use the dedicated GPU so this prevents you from using the laptop in the center of a desk with a monitor or TV behind it. You also only have HDMI 2.0 so no full color 4K 120hz HDR support here but 4K 60hz with HDR, and 1440P 120hz HDR will work. Laptop feels a bit flimsy and has an overall plastic feel, some others in this price range are made of higher quality materials. Battery life is what it is, but with the 3060 switched off, you can game quite comfortably for 2-3 hours on battery with the AMD integrated graphics and performance is actually quite amazing for what it is. With the 3060 enabled expect maybe 45 minutes to an hour and a half. As for some pros, performance is fantastic, the 5900HX is a beast and it's IGP is spectacular which is important when gaming unplugged. The 3060 is adequately cooled and plenty of performance for it's 1080P panel to run most games at max settings and hit the refresh rate limit. The display is OK but does have slight ghosting and the brightness is rather dim. Decent for indoor use but useless outdoors or in direct sunlight, overall it's average to subpar for a gaming notebook. Design wise, I think it looks cool, some others agree and a few folks said the silver plastic looks like a call back to laptops from over a decade ago but you decide, I could only wish they didn't remove the customizable LED lid from the prior model for this new holographic material. One other thing to note is the grid of tiny holes on the lid may be a nuisance for some that carry this around a lot as grime could build up and be difficult to clean.

Extremely solid for the price, especially on sale. The build quality is great, the keyboard feels good, the display is good, the dedicated 3060 is fantastic for 1080p gaming, and the integrated graphics are great for productivity and light gaming on battery power. There's a great selection of ports for peripherals, and heat management is decent if not exceptional. Even the speakers sound good, something I didn't expect at this price point. But it's barebones in a lot of ways for anything but gaming. Only one of the two USB-C ports supports power delivery, so you're locked into charging on the left side (and, as expected, it can't carry the wattage for charging while gaming). There's no webcam despite space on the bezel, so packing one is mandatory. The display hinge is limited, but at least it's functional and solid (hey Legion 7i). This is just a solid gaming PC with a few limitations that are more than justified by the price. If you're getting it to also be productive at work, you'll need to jump through some additional hoops, but you're still getting 8 cores/16 threads and 16GB of RAM on a decently fast SSD to plow through software development, video/audio production, photo editing, etc. The ASUS bundled software can be a little rough (the feature to pair a phone to use its camera as a webcam was so buggy, I had to uninstall the ASUS control center completely after setting it up) but mostly stays out of the way. Keyboard backlighting is poor to the point of being unreadable, but that's not a dealbreaker. It isn't mentioned much anywhere, and I've seen some websites claim this laptop doesn't have a fingerprint reader, but that's false! It's built into the power button and compatible with Windows Hello for biometric auth — the only option since it doesn't have a webcam for face recognition.
