Great Little Machine
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great machine. I didn't give it five stars because of the location of the vents and I didn't particularly care for the keyboard. This is just a personal thing. If you're looking for a lightweight machine, this is a great option. I do like that it has discrete graphics.

Great mid range gaming laptop
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great middle ground between budget and desktop replacement for gaming laptops. its only a few hundred more than machines equipped with 1650s and for this price you get 16gb of ram, a 512gb nvme ssd, and a 1660ti. Not to mention this thing has better build qulaity than any other laptop ive seen in this price range, not that ive owned many to compare it to, but as far as other ones ive demoed, this thing has the feel of a laptop that costs far more.

Nice GPU, poor thermals and display
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G GA502 packs a good deal of power into a slim form factor at an attractive price, but there are several issues that make this feel like a mediocre laptop. ===[ Overview of ‘hard’ specs ]=== - The GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q is probably the best GPU you can get at this price point without having to deal with steep trade-offs on other components. - Some money was saved on this build with the Ryzen 7 3750H CPU. While having great per-core performance, the low core count--and thus overall performance--is overshadowed by the CPUs found in many competing laptops around this price. Fortunately, for most games, I don’t see this being a problem. For particularly CPU-intensive games or applications, the difference can be significant. - The 16GB of RAM is, in my opinion, a necessity for gaming. While common around this price, it’s just as common to see gaming laptops with only 8GB, so I’m glad they didn’t skimp here. - The 512GB SSD is common around this price, but there are plenty of competing laptops with higher capacity SSDs and hybrid SSD/HDD configurations. The good thing about saving money here is that it is unlikely to negatively impact in-game performance, leaving the number of installed games and applications to be the primary concern. - Good quantity and placement of peripheral ports. - Rather oddly, this laptop lacks a camera. ===[ Performance ]=== In benchmarking, the CPU gets trounced by the likes of the Intel Core i7-8750H and others which can be readily found in other laptops around this price. When it comes to practical gaming, however, this isn’t a huge deal. The CPU load remained below GPU load most of the time in all but one game I tested, suggesting the GPU remained the primary bottleneck, which is as it should be. My biggest concern was the GPU temperature sensor readings both while benchmarking and in standard gameplay, with stock system configuration (no overclocking) and in an air-conditioned room. During non-stress-test benchmarking, temperatures rose to the low 90s of degrees Celsius, while low 80s were common in standard gaming. These are significantly higher than I’d hope for. Besides lending to frequency throttling, I suspect these temperatures could end up shortening the lifespan of the hardware when sustained over lengthy gaming sessions. The keyboard remained fairly well insulated from these temperatures; my hands got a little sweaty at times, but the surface temperatures were otherwise not bothersome. Due to the high temperatures, the fans spun up quickly and remained quite loud for the GPU-intensive games I played. In my research on this laptop, I noticed that some people reported WiFi throughput issues. In my testing, I had no trouble achieving maximum bandwidth throughput when connected wirelessly to an AC WiFi router on the 5GHz spectrum, getting just under 260 Mbps on a 200 Mbps Internet plan, virtually the same speed as when wired, and without performing any tweaks to the default system configuration. ===[ Design / Aesthetics ]=== Though quite the fingerprint magnet, the brushed aluminum behind the display looks nice, sporting an edge-lit logo. The rest of the body is plastic. The display, unfortunately, is a low point for this laptop. The top brightness setting is somewhat dim, and the color saturation is quite poor; very noticeable when compared side-by-side with other laptop displays. The sound seems to be shifted towards low frequency, such that the sound of a hammer banging on an anvil might sound like ‘clink, clank’ on even desktop speakers, but sound like ‘clank, clunk’ on the speakers in this laptop. This can make many games feel more immersive, but increases vibrations felt through the keyboard. The touch-pad is large, smooth, responsive, and center-aligned, which helps prevent accidental palm/thumb interaction when the left hand’s fingers are planted on the WASD keys. The keyboard is quite a mess. Despite having plenty of surface area for more keys, even a full-sized number pad, Asus decided to go with a much more trimmed layout with wide empty margins. The arrow keys are ridiculously tiny, which seems absurd for a gaming laptop. The back-lighting elements are directly visible from an angle, having an annoying pixelated appearance. The top row of keys is half height. As a personal gripe, I find the font used for the keys to be rather unattractive. ===[ Conclusion ]=== The hardware in this laptop provides decent performance for the price. If it weren’t for the thermal issue, I’d be able to upgrade that ‘decent’ to ‘great’. The poor display and less than ideal keyboard further detract a bit from the gaming experience, but I think this laptop is still worth consideration.

Amazing laptop for price.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is amazing. It has great performance while still being relatively thin and light. It has all of the ports I need and the only complaint I have had with this computer so far is the storage compacity. It has an extra m.2 slot though so it was easy to upgrade.

As expected, great for everyday work
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this computer for school and to play my sims game. The battery does run out quicker when you are gaming but lasts around five to six hours when doing work or watching videos. When playing games, the laptop will get pretty heated so you might have to get a cooling pad for it because the fan that’s built in does not always work. If anyone knows how to get it working, please tell me. I got this for around 900 before tax because of the July 4th sale but if you can wait till Black Friday, it might be at a lower price. I bought this early July so I don’t think I should say anything else. It’s my first gaming laptop so I hope it lasts long. My chrome book lasted me four years so hopefully this would last around that

Great for gaming/design work
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop has great specs and is definitely worth the price compared to pricier gaming laptops. I use it mostly for casual gaming like LoL, FFXIV, Overwatch, and Apex so not too demanding games. It runs great when you update the BIOs, drivers, and be sure to download Armoury Crate so that you can activate the different power modes as the default silent mode will probably make your FPS drop. The fans can run a little loud if you're on performance/turbo but it's not noticeable if you have headphones plugged in.

Not good for gaming
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you looking budgets laptops for gaming, this not the good one. The frame will drop it faster when you in game, and it’s not stable for gaming. Totally, the GTX 1660Ti is good. But the AMD CPU is worst. So I would like to say if you want to play game, don’t choose AMD version, use intel you got better experience.

Posted .Dear Valued Customer,
I'm truly sorry to hear that frame rate drops faster while playing games. Usually, this can be normal as video fps drops because the scene has changed and it takes CPU/GPU processor to calculate the distant landscape, but in a few seconds the fps returns to normal. Are you playing all games on the dedicated graphics card? If your issue was not resolved, feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] and provide this link for reference. I'll do my best to provide a quick resolution to your case. Your feedback is important as it helps with improvements to ASUS Support channels.

Great laptop until this
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Laptop worked like a charm! Great laptop for the price! Fans were a little loud but that is to be expected. After 2 weeks of owning it I noticed a rattling noise in one of the fans. I then returned it and bought the Asus ROG Zephryus M13

Amazing laptop for the money! 60+FPS in AAA games!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very good entry-level gaming laptop. It's relatively quiet, fast and incredibly well styled. It's thin and light for a gaming laptop, and yet powerful enough for a very good mobile gaming experience. The chassis is very muted, it's not flashy or "gamer-y" like a lot of gaming laptops are, for daily use on the go it's great. It has a 120hz screen, which is very nice and makes for smooth gaming. The colors are not amazing, but I wouldn't say it looks washed out, just less "pop" than my VA monitor for my PC. Very serviceable for gaming though, I would definitely have the higher refresh rate than a better color gamut. The keyboard is nice, no RGB but it is backlit. The keys are responsive and not mushy at all. It comes with a 512GB NVMe drive, and it was very easy to remove the bottom panel to install a second 1TB NVMe drive. The Ryzen 7 is only a quad-core (with SMT so total of 8 threads) but it does run at up to 4ghz when gaming and is definitely powerful enough for this machine. The 1660ti is the Max-q variant, so it runs at a lower TDP and wattage than the regular 1660ti. Still powerful enough to hit the 60FPS mark in AAA games, and eSports titles like Overwatch run at 100+FPS on high settings. I'm currently playing the Outer Worlds, and on high settings with 80% render resolution I'm hitting 120FPS most of the time, during heavy action it rarely drops below 100FPS. The noise levels when gaming in the "Turbo" mode (as near as I can tell this changes the power profile to run the CPU and GPU at their maximum TDP envelopes of 35w and 60w respectively) aren't so loud that they bother my wife when she's in bed next to me, and what noise they do produce is not pitchy or whiney like some laptop fans can be. All I really hear is the rush of airflow and not actually the fans themselves. For the price, I am extremely happy with this gaming PC. It gives me a great gaming experience and was cheaper than my wife's 2020 Macbook. I would recommend this for anyone at this price point.

Great Laptop, with some quirks.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros This is a Gaming Laptop, so that means it's main task (and what is was made for) is gaming, and it does that just fine. This definitely takes full advantage of the 120hz screen. Games like Overwatch, Hearthstone(obviously), and Fortnite run really really well. Super smooth 120fps almost all the time. Even games like Battlefront 1 and 2(70-80 fps), Destiny 2(90-100 fps!!!), and Mirrors Edge Catalyst run well over 60 fps, and the difference is noticeable. Notice I didn't specifically note what settings these games were at, this is because I just use the NVIDIA GeForce Experience to optimize the games. But they are all at least on high. Also this laptop is extremely portable, I've only had it for a little over a week, so I haven't actually taken it anywhere in a backpack or computer bag, but 0.8" thick and 81% screen to body ratio seems pretty easy to take around. Power brick is also very small. Cons There is very minor motherboard wine for my unit. Only if you listen for it though. Upper half of the keyboard deck gets toasty, starting left of the "D" key, so a s w d key are cool. So unless you are one of those people who has every key on the computer bound to something, you should be fine. Also the keyboard doesn't feature anti-ghosting, but that is a minor issue because I've only experienced it little. Fans also get loud, but I would rather have loud fans than an overheated computer. And the fans are only loud when gaming (obviously). The noise is fine with headphones though. Having the pc in silent mode gets a little warm however. Speakers are loud and clear. Gaming with the speakers at 50% is plenty for me and anyone watching. Although I would prefer gaming with a headset but only because of the surround sound advantage. Also I've noticed in lots of reviews online and you tube people talk about it having a dim screen. The screen isn't really "dim", it just isn't super bright, but definitely not a major issue. Honestly these cons are just to put them out there. As you can see, I still gave a 5 star review, that's because this laptop was made for one thing specifically, gaming, and it does that just fine.
