Thermal throttled. Fan broken a year later
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is CPU and max-q plagued. My current laptop is a replacement, the first one I got was not functional ( should have been a red flag) The cpu runs hot and is temperature throttled after 5 min of playing any game. The Max-Q version of this GPU is not that powerful compared to similarly priced GPU and also runs hot. After hours of forums I had to carefully under clock everything and run at way lower settings then I should have been. Now a year of infrequent use later the fan bearing is completely gone and the parts and support resources are scarce. Very disappointed, probably going with MSI next time. Also funny how the screen is 140htz when it literally can’t run any major games at that FPS, even league of legends b/c the laptop is so CPU & thermal bottlenecked.

Better laptops
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At this price, $1199.99, you can get better laptops with a 9th Gen i7, full RTX 2060 and a 144hz display for around the same price. Paired with the Ryzen, the 2060 max-q performed ok, staying mostly above 60fps in medium to high settings but in most games, struggles to max out the 120hz display even at low. I would only consider this if you can get it at a sale.

Amazing laptop with a huge glaring issue
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This will be a long, thorough review. Please, please bear with me as it's worth your time. I want to give this laptop 5 stars so very badly, I truly do. This laptop checks EVERY cost conscience power user's box except for the one, massive, and honestly unforgivable, let down: The display panel that Asus uses. It is garbage with garbage color reproduction. The colors suck, there is no other way to say it, the display panel is trash. I will cover that first and foremost before I go into how wondrous this laptop is otherwise. The panel is a 6-bit 120Hz 1080p "IPS" (vIPS to be exact, it's not a real IPS) Panda LM156LF-CL03 panel. Driven by a 1660ti Max-Q, I can max out WoW: Classic at 1080p on ultra settings and 8x MSAA at 120 pure fluid frames... At first this sounds pretty amazing, right? Until, that is, you compare this screen to any other laptop screen and you realize the color output says "262k" (262 THOUSAND colors) while all the other panels (from Asus, Acer, MSi, etc) say "1.52M" (1.52 MILLION colors). All the colors in-game looked washed out and no where near as vibrant as my Acer desktop monitor with a TN panel from 2010 (don't fix what ain't broke, right?). Trust me, this singular, sole cost cutting decision WILL be this laptop's downfall. The cost of this laptop is PHENOMENAL for what you get, I just wish they would have upped the cost by another $50, $100, $150 for a TRUE 144Hz, AU Optronics screen like in their flagship models. We all know high end laptop prices are inflated because of the Intel/RTX configurations. Laptop displays are not that cost prohibitive unless you get into the crazy 240Hz/3ms IPS displays. This is an entry level "flagship" with a terrible screen. There is no other way to put it. Asus, please, if you're listening, I will gladly pay you $100 extra for a REAL 144Hz IPS display in THIS EXACT configuration/layout with PROPER color reproduction. With that said... Now the pros, I will try to make these super quick as they are all blatantly obvious but besides the ONE glaring flaw above, this laptop is literally perfect, literally, in every sense of the word: - Case/layout: I absolutely LOVE the simplistic "it's a laptop, not a spaceship" design. I cannot stand all these crazy, funky looking laptops (looking at you MSI, HP, and Lenovo). Asus knocked it out of the park with this simple design. I know their flagships are similar but when you open them, they have this clamshell design that opens up when you open the display. No, I love THIS design of the GA502. No moving parts besides the display (which by the way sucks if it wasn't apparent). It looks like a normal work laptop that packs a HUGE punch in the performance category. - Performance: The AMD/nVidia unholy abomination is AWESOME. The Ryzen 7 coupled with the 1660ti is, in my worthless opinion, the best thing to happen since AMD was smacking Intel around during the Athlon FX/Pentium 4 days. I don't care if you overpaying green boys (I have a 980ti in my desktop) dismiss this review because of that, get bent. AMD making a huge come back is great for every enthusiast involved because of nVidia's constant overinflation of both their ego and their MSRP for their cards. - Keyboard/Trackpad: Awesome. I had almost no issues immediately getting accustomed to the keyboard as I have a Dell E5570 for work and I felt right at home on this keyboard. The trackpad is super slick but controllable for perfect mouse movement every time when you're using it as a work horse, not a gaming machine. - Fans/Noise: The fans CAN get loud but when working on some small stuff, have Chrome open with Discord, etc, this thing is silent as silent can be. When it starts playing games though, the fans can move a TON of air but the noise is bearable compared to the windtunnel that other laptops are with RTX cards. - Lack of a webcam: THANK GOD! Asus, please, continue this trend and I hope other brands pick up on it. In my 17+ years of being a computer nerd and now an IT professional, I've used my work webcam TWICE in the past 6-7 years. NO ONE WANTS A WEBCAM! NOBODY!! - Overall: Because of the display issue and it's subtle design, this is a school/work laptop first and foremost with gaming a far second. The specs scream gaming, the display screams eye strain. I want to keep this laptop. I truly, honestly, wholeheartedly want to keep this laptop. I've tried cross referencing a screen replacement. I've looked up Chinese part numbers. Scoured every screen replacement seeing if any other screen from Acer, MSI, HP, etc will fit in this chassis with it's super thin bezel. This screen is a 30-pin screen and all the 144Hz 3ms IPS screens are all 40-pin screens. I'm returning this laptop because of how absolute trash this screen is. Asus. Put a real screen in this laptop for $1299 and I promise you, this WILL be your best seller and over take the Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-52-78VL (which is the laptop I recommend over this one) without a doubt. Until then (if ever), I cannot honestly recommend this laptop and feel good about myself. This is a beautifully crafted, perfect laptop completely destroyed and overshadowed by the one piece that you interact with 100% of the time, all the time, when actually using the laptop: the display.

Awesome Device
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Needed a computer that wouldn't choke while streaming. Our Pastor's voice would finish preaching and his video would take 15 minutes longer to finish. With this beauty everything is synched, no pixelation, no shuddering and the speaker doesn't look like the star of a cheap Kung Fu movie. Well worth the purchase.
