Buy three years geek squad with this
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was promised a 6-8 hour battery life, and under a year it's become barely able to manage an hour to an hour and a half battery life. This is just web browsing. I would love to get geek squad to look at this for me, but I don't think I have that option anymore and I'm quite distressed. Some keys are dimmer than others after light usage, dirt and debris get under the keys very easily. It's great for getting into gaming but I do not believe this laptop was built for longevity. Would return if I could.

Hardware is good, Asus Support is not.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After a week long process of being run around by Asus and Bizcom trying to find anyone at this company that knows literally anything. I am forced to send in this laptop for a 2-3 week re-imaging service because doing a fresh install of Windows 10 yourself will break Asus Software and cannot be repaired. I have never seen a PC/Laptop OEM ever irreparably break a software feature from a Windows install. This is caused by 1 major issues, 1: Asus preinstalls software and Does not allow you to re-download this software to fix these features after a fresh install.

Broken in 8 months
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good computer but it just completely died in 8 months. Something popped and now it won’t turn on. Can’t get it in the store to get looked at. Just an expensive paper weight.

AVOID
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is SLOW! It starts off for a few days seeming to be a huge upgrade from our 5 year old laptop, but within a week it takes almost one minute to open any program, app, or webpage. Did a full factory reset and again it worked for a day or two but every time it just bogs down to the point I'd rather use our old old computer than boot this thing up. We were so excited right when we first started with it but now this has been our most disappointing purchase of a machine ever.

Worked great, till it didn't...
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this machine because I have had good luck with a lot of ROG components I have used and from reviews of the device. Unit worked wonderful, when it worked. After using it one day (maybe my 3rd or 4th time using it) I turned off and put it away. Few days later went to turn it on and nothing. Tried charging for a while to see if that was the issue and nope. Still nothing. After only a couple weeks from purchase this unit would not turn on any more. So, I returned it and purchased a different brand.

Coil Whine Is Unbearable
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great computer that is completely ruined by horrible manufacturing. The coil whine emits a high pitched screeching noise the second I turn the computer on and there's nothing I can do to fix it. I looked up this issue and have found it to be a recurring problem that many customers have encountered.
No, I would not recommend this to a friendBrand response from Asus_Answers
Posted .Dear Lithium3,
We're sorry to hear about the issues you're having with this model. When the electrical current is increased to a certain point, the magnetic field around the coil can cause it to vibrate, which produces the whiny sound. After a short amount of time, the noise should go away as the components regulate. However, if it is that the sound is too much for you, then we would recommend that you have this device sent in for servicing.
Best Buy happens to be an Authorized Service Provider of ASUS. They have all the tools and resources to service your Notebook once under warranty at your convenience. Seeing that you originally purchased the unit at Best Buy, we advise you to go to the store to get your unit serviced.

GPU disabled
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can confirm what others have posted that this laptop is obscenely loud. However the bigger problem is the integrated graphics. It can not run even older games and I see in task manager that that GPU utilization remains at 0% when it tries to. I bought this as open box certified excellent. I am sure there is some easy fix to update a driver or something to fix the GPU, but if it needs that kind of work to be functional, that is not what I would call excellent condition.

Posted .Dear Valued Customer,
I'm truly sorry to hear that the dedicated GPU is not working. Please attempt to update the driver from our official website and then attempt to change from the integrated GPU to dedicated GPU with these steps:
- First, right-click on a space on the desktop and choose Nvidia Control Panel from the menu.
- Navigate to 3D Settings > Manage 3D Settings.
- Open the tab Program Settings and choose the game from the dropdown menu.
- Next, select the preferred graphics processor for this program from the second dropdown. Your Nvidia GPU should show as High-performance Nvidia processor.

This laptop should not be on sale
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The throttling problem and heating to 70-80c even while watching videos on youtube make me wonder how this guy got through Asus Quality Control. It's especially sad for me because of outstanding experience with my old Asus ROG from 2015 which still normally works in 2020. I have returned this laptop today and looking for a new gaming machine now. Don't buy this thing even for 900$.

Posted .Dear Valued Customer,
It's unfortunate to hear that the unit is thermal throttling. This is not the type of experience we want any of our customers to have. Most time there could be a windows update or background apps using a lot of CPU usage which causes the temperature to increase. If you have not to return it, we do recommend that you check and install all updates and also close the unnecessary background apps. Disappointed and Frustrated
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this a year ago. It worked up until this point. Now, the audio makes strange noises when streaming tv shows. The video is very choppy and will stop to buffer every few seconds. It freezes and needs to be shut off (Ctrl +Alt+ Delete does not help). I have had to bring it in for repair twice along with remote troubleshooting. Neither have fixed the problem. It's very disappointing after only a year of owning it.

Fan issue
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was working fine until in the first six months it shut down for good and it was because there was a defective battery and motherboard (manufacturers fault). Then the fan started rattling my laptop and overworking itself the next two times, and the system keys were not working. Now after 8 months of my warranty expiring, my laptop has a fan issue again.

Not What I Expected!!!
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wanted to love this computer. I did! I basically paid $1,000 for a paper weight. First, my games started dropping frame rates and then I had to download all this unnecessary junk like a temp controller just to get a game running that then booted me into this safe mode loop to which now I am locked out of my computer. I can't even use this piece of junk anymore. I either want a replacement or my money back!!!!

Laptop froze
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everything was great until unexpectedly the whole thing froze I couldn't move the mouse, and all of the keyboard commands wouldn't work. I did a factory reset on it and it was good for 2 days then it was the same thing. It froze again. I desperately need this laptop for college as an engineering student, but I keep having problems with this laptop. Nothing was downloaded, i was just using the internet and it just stopped working.

I should have listened to my instincts not to buy
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First and foremost, ASUS does not stand by their products. This is the second (and the last time) I was refused service because my laptop was just a little over a year old. Short story is the laptop will not turn on. This is a common problem (look at the other reviews) and ASUS has done nothing to remedy the problem. I was a lifetime ASUS customer. That ends now.

Business look with party specs!!!!!!!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Summary The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G is a entry level gaming laptop that offers good specs, thin and great battery life. The 2nd Gen AMD Ryzen 7 3750H cpu is more comparable to an Intel Core i5-8300H with the Intel chip being 3.6% faster in multi-core testing, according to Cinebench 20. A 512 PCIe SSD is a good sized storage option compare to others that usually offer a 128 SSD and 1TB mechanical drive or just offer a mechanical drive alone. 16 gigs of ram is always welcomed as well with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics (6 gigs of ram onboard) that is faster than last year’s GTX 1060. The highlights of this laptop is the portability factors and a slightly better video card when compared to current competitors in this category. Gaming Performance Far Cry (Ultra) avg 61 FPS Anthem (High) avg 38 FPS (Med) avg 65 FPS BioShock Remastered (High) avg 160 FPS No Man’s Sky (High) avg 54 FPS Heaven benchmark with max settings 56 FPS https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/16849077 Cinebench R20 Score 1684 Smooth game-play and thermals stayed around 76F most of the time with 93F being the highest. Build Quality & Features The build on this device is pretty good with a brush metal top that is prone to fingerprints, and the rest of body being plastic that seems sturdy enough with stiff hinges. Overall appearance is conservative for gaming laptop which I rather like since I can bring this to my workplace without shame or envy. Being thin and only 4.63 pounds was major draw for me and I imagine others. The keyboard keys have short key strokes but not really a factor for me, both it and the track pad are good overall. The 1920 x 1080 with 120Hz FHD screen is adequate for gaming but with 296-nit average for most mainstream gaming laptops and max nit brightness being 270 on this screen, plus colors look washed out and is not truly accurate, so I wished they used a better LCD panel but I’m a bit of screen snob. Plenty of ports with 3 USB 3.0 and 1 USB 3.1, HDMI, Ethernet, headphone jack but no SD card port and “IMPORTANT” no web cam so big brother can’t spy on you while your talking smack on Twitch. A M.2 PCIE 512 SSD with 16 gigs of DDR4 ram are good specs for gaming also and you can upgrade both to a point, ram is up-gradable to 24 gigs, there is another M.2 (PCIE 3.0 X2) slot which is really nice but what is not nice concerns the ram limit. WARNING THE FOLLOW IS A RANT SO SKIP TO THE NEXT PARAGRAPH IF YOU WANT READ ABOUT MY OPINION REGARDING SOLDERED COMPONENTS: This unit has two ram slots with one being soldered on the motherboard. Just why??? Why would you do this on a higher priced gaming laptop? I could see doing it on a $300 budget laptop but on a gaming one is ridiculous, I like to max out my laptops later down the road and 32 gigs makes it future proof, oh well I guess folks like me who don’t complain about it enough and let these companies get away with it, oh wait I am complaining lol… Maybe I should forward this review to ASUS :) Wifi Card: when I first ran a speed test I only got 80% of my true speed, someone on Reddit mentioned to disable the Game First V software and that seemed to work. Speakers: Meh…. Just ok, definitely go have turn down the TV while watching YouTube. Keyboard & Touch pad: Not bad at all pretty the standard you expect with gaming laptops Final Verdict I very pleased since a laptop for both work and play is what I wanted, so compiling code, editing short videos and casual gaming is done well.
