Great laptop for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been looking for laptops for school this year and ultimately decided on this one. I wasn't originally planning on getting this one because I'm not a fan of amd processors, but my friend got this the week before so I got to check it out before buying it. I loved it from the start the thing is skinny and very portable. But packs a pretty good punch. The only complaint I have is that the thing heats up pretty quick. But what laptop doesn't? I have had 3 laptops in my life a Lenovo, a Alienware 17 r3, and now this one. This one is my favorite. They all got very hot like this one but they all were very thick and sucked moving them around. This one is nice and portable. 10/10 will recommend to a friend and will look forward to using this laptop for school this upcoming month.

Third time's a charm! Excellent Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am not a brand specific person. I have however always loved ASUS products. This time however I've had quite the journey in the last couple of days. Here it is: I bought the GU501GM when Best Buy had a flash sale two days ago and noticed that the metal between the keys near the enter key kept coming up. Sad to see, but I exchanged it for this one. Then, the first one of these models had a diagonal screen. What does that mean you say? Literally the bottom right side of the panel was hiding behind the bezel. That's a "no no" for me so I exchanged it for another one and had Best Buy open it for me. Kudos to you Richfield store for taking care of me so well. Now here's the good! First off, for those shopping on Best Buy's website, this doesn't have a RGB backlit keyboard. It's only white. That's OK to me, but some of you may want the RGB lighting. The 1660ti is roughly 30% faster than the 1060 card so you're getting better gaming performance for the money. I also like the size of this one vs. the other one because the bezels are super thin and the overall size is down with the removal of the 10-key number pad. I'm happy to see the Ryzen laptops embracing a GPU like the 1660ti vs. solely relying on the power of the APU alone. Overall it's a great gaming laptop that doesn't look too overly gaudy that it'll look odd in a meeting room. I highly recommend this laptop. JOIN THE REPUBLIC!

Tons of bang for the buck!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this yesterday and installed several games... Farcry 5, Jurassic World Evolution, Sims 4, and Guild Wars 2. Everything runs as smooth as butter at ultra resolution. Looks sharp and amazing, and loads slightly faster than my Dell G7. The Ryzen processor is amazing. It’s a heavy laptop computer, but not too big for most 15” laptop bags. Took this bad boy on the commute train and had several gawkers who were amazed at the quality. Easily best gaming rig in its price range.

Great First time
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is mt first time ever venturing into a true gaming PC and I can say I'm glad I went with a laptop. My previous laptops were a 2015 Macbook pro 13" 256GB (1500), and a 2009 13" Macbook (The first aluminum one) and both I ended up having huge problems with later one. This is amazing for me as an Information Technology major and a person who wants to expand my gaming horizons to PC I love it. The power I get out of this rig is amazing it blows away some of the specs that my friends full PC rigs have. I definitely love being able to change between different modes to prioritize to keep quite or run at full power for gaming or to try to preserve battery life for longer. The only complaint I have with this laptop is that I wish it came with 1 TB of storage instead of 512 GB I would've been happy with a HD if it meant that I could get 1TB but since not I'll gladly be using and external SSD. Overall, I'm definitely very happy with the direction I went with and am definitely not going to return. Also, GET THE GSP!!!!

Fantastic for the price, one issue.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this as an open box at Best Buy. As far as daily internet surfing goes, this thing is great. It is incredibly fast, cool, and quiet. The keyboard feels nice as well. As far as gaming usage goes, the laptop is still incredible. Consistently pulls at least 90 fps on major titles as far as I have tested it (Battlefront II, Titanfall II, The Division 2 most notably). HOWEVER, the major flaw that I have occurring which may be fixable, but I haven't had any luck, is that sometimes after over an hour or hour and a half of constant use on a more demanding title like Far Cry 5 or The Division 2, the CPU overheats, the fans slow way down, audio becomes super choppy. For now, I hard restart the laptop in about 30 seconds and it works fine again. (I do have and use a cooling pad to help combat this issue, as well as check the min and max CPU usage while plugged in, power plan, etc.) Overall, I love this laptop so far and the main issue I have run into is most likely fixable and isn't too annoying for casual gaming. The laptop is pretty light with a great battery life for a gaming laptop. Planning on using it as my college laptop as of this fall. Overall, great laptop and highly recommend for the price.

Amazing product for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is powerful and manages to compete with most budget gaming rigs all for a reasonable price. The design is slick and simple, and the battery lasts for a surprising amount of time. Definitely worth the purchase if it is within your price range!

EXCELLENT GAMING AND SCHOOL WORK LAPTOP
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This pc has a large number of features that I feel should be advertised. It has focus assist for when doing work / school assignments. It will sync work between your phone and computer using apps between the two devices! The graphics are high quality! On poor internet I was still pulling high FPS on a internet greedy game and it ran mostly smoothly aside from my internet. Still learning all its bells and whistles. But I highly recommend for a gamer and college student! Its definitely light and portable. It does run very warm but nothing a good cooling fan wont fix! Plus it keeps itself relatively cool with the fan controls. Love it!!

Incredible performance in an unbeatable form
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Simply put, I can't believe what they've managed to pack in to this size & form factor. The performance of this unit simply screams while the size and weight keep you in disbelief. The singular thing that blew both myself and my wife away was when I asked her to listen to something and turned up the sound - not expecting more than the usually tinny laptop speaker we were both blown away at what we heard. "Holy crap that sounds... REALLY GOOD" - we completely lost our focus on what we were supposed to be watching and focused completely on how good the sound coming out of the unit was! My only real gripe with this laptop is the keyboard layout. The "I"m an edgy gamer" font makes it unnecessarily hard to read and, where my hands tend to rest, I was always hitting incorrect keys when stretching with my pinky fingers.

Great gaming laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Design is nice, runs smoothly, no real complaints. It's a bit loud, but gaming laptops are loud, so just wear headphones. Note there's no webcam if that's something that you care about.

Questionable Performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop started out seeming like a decent deal, and even better now that it’s on sale. The Ryzen 7 offers roughly an i5 experience with better integrated graphics plus a reasonably powerful gtx 1660 ti. I will admit like another reviewer here I though it had rgb lighting, it does not it is only white lighting and that is it. It is not advertised with rgb either. There is a fan button and ROG button that are not used for anything. I spoke with Asus support and this model does not support them...not sure why they are there then... Screen isn’t bad, 120hz is nice, colors are alright...not the worst I’ve seen so no real complains there. Love the slim bezels. Now for the big issue for me. My experience setting this laptop up from scratch. I put in a Samsung 970 evo ssd and ran the stock m2 drive as extra space. When you go to install the drivers from Asus, their applications are set up almost stupid. You download the driver then right click and run a setup script as an admin and repeat for each driver. Because they don’t install through normal program prompts, some applications don’t seem to install correctly or are not recognized. For example you install the nvidia video drivers using that method and should you later update them using GeForce experience, the regular nvidia installer has no idea anything is installed. I also had no idea if the WiFi and sound drivers were installed despite performing their process. Speaking of WiFi, the chip on this is really really terrible. Every other device that I can speed test in the house download through our WiFi at our full 150mbps connection speed. This bounces between 1/4 of that without consistency. Wiring in works fine. This then lead to random slowdowns in windows for no apparent reason. The event viewer had nothing resourceful to pick out as a cause...it would literally just run supper slow then a restart would totally fix. Rinse and repeat any time it happened. Then occasionally you would see the system interrupts process spike and it appears it’s potentially related to driver issues. I played Ace combat on it which ran well thankfully. I alt tabbed our at some point though and the slowness and stutter came back out of the blue. I checked to see if it was using integrated graphics and it was not. Please note on gaming laptops to do typically need to add the games into the nvidia panel to say “used high performance nvidia processor” so it doesn’t switch mid game. Then I moved onto the division 2. Of course this processor is one that gets the 100% cpu bug and it’s common with a 4 core with hyper threading processor. It should be a non issue with an i7. Whether that’s the laptops fault or not, that is a deal breaker as I am a big fan of the series. It basically stutters just like it did with other games and within windows with a low fps in random places in the game. It is unfortunate but this experience was truly abysmal. If you don’t plan to mess with the out of box setup and don’t plan on playing the division, and don’t rely heavily on your WiFi for speed, it’s an alright laptop. Due to the problems with it, I think you’re truly better off spending your money on a machine with an i7-8xxx or better even with a 1050 ti (or better). It would just save you all the headaches. I ultimately returned this and will keep playing my games on Xbox one x. The graphics and performance eclipse this and there are no compatibility issues with games or drivers there. (Or the same goes for PS4) I’m disappointed to leave a bad review but, sadly I have no faith in this machine. I’ve had a flawless experience with a Dell g3 and g5 in the past.

Super excellent affordable powerful gaming laptop!
Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this laptop for 3 weeks and am tremendously happy with it. This PC can handle any AAA game you can throw at it at 1080P at 60 fps at high and ULTRA settings. It has a 120Hz display so it is possible to enjoy ultra smooth gaming at 120 fps but I'm sure you would have to turn down a few settings to get most games to run at 120 fps. 60 fps is perfectly fine and silky smooth for me though. Even though this is technically a budget gaming laptop ($1000) it has the nice professional look of a higher end laptop. And it's remarkably thin and light. It looks professional enough to use in a conference room without people thinking you're carrying around a big old bulky gaming laptop. The nVidia GTX 1660ti MaxQ with 6GB at DDR6 (yes DDR6 not DDR5) turns out to be one of the most powerful graphics chips around right now except obviously the RTX series. I have run a lot of benchmarks on the PC and the GPU and the GPU performs about as good as a GTX 1070 and in some cases the benchmarks surpass the 1070. And like I said, this thing can handle any modern game you can throw at it at 1080P 60fps. The benchmarks I've run on the PC always mention the 512 GB SSD is unbelievably fast at the top of the benchmark charts and it will boot to Windows in about 9 seconds! It's got the best hardware monitoring software I've ever seen called the Armory Crate and even has a dedicated key on the keyboard to access it at any time. You can control practically everything, and it has two great powerful fans and you can literally set the fan speed to any RPM you want or you can turn them down low so the PC runs silent. And the Armory Crate lets you monitor practically everything - CPU temp, CPU usage, CPU frequency, GPU temp, GPU usage, memory usage, SSD usage, and more. I'm actually a software engineer so I will be using this laptop to develop software but I needed a laptop powerful enough to run modern triple A games too, and this is it! One thing to note is this gaming laptop does not have a webcam nor does it have a microphone. I don't need a webcam but I do miss the microphone so you can talk to the PC like you can talk to your phone. That's the only con I can think of and it is solvable by buying a higher quality microphone you'd probably want anyway.

Great Gaming Laptop on a budget!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been eyeing this laptop for a while and was finally able to get my hands on it! Solid Slim Laptop That Doesnt Break The Bank
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are looking for clean aesthetic laptop around 1000 dollars this is it right here. It packs a Ryzen 7 and 1660 ti Max Q meaning games wont be an issue here. The portability is also a huge plus. The build quality is good for the price. One thing to note is that I recommend changing the wifi card inside the laptop, other than that, this is a very good option for people wanting to have that slim premium life while staying at a solid price.

Wonderful first gaming laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have never been fortunate enough to afford a decent laptop until now, and this far exceeded expectations. Games run incredibly smoothly and there are endless customization settings. one downfall is that if you are running max settings, although the graphics card can handle it, the laptop tends to get very hot over time. I have found myself propping it up off my desk slightly and that seems to fix all my problems.
