    I’ve been using this ROG Zephyrus G14 for less than a year and honestly it’s been very disappointing. It overheats even with normal use, the fans get loud even when I’m just browsing, and the laptop freezes and crashes for no clear reason. Just look at the Reliability Monitor report I shared from only one month and you’ll see how many times it crashed and had errors. A Best Buy Geek Squad technician even told me this is a common issue with the G14. If you need a reliable high-performance laptop, I would not recommend this one.

    This is such a great looking, sleek laptop that can seemingly do it all. We bought it at closing time, took it home and opened it up. Followed all the instructions. Set it up. The fans were a bit loud but that’s to be expected on such a thin, powerful device. It was even warm but kept a close eye to make sure it wasn’t too hot to touch. Everything was great. By mid morning the following day, after a gaming session, I went to turn it off. There were updates to the BIOS system that wanted to be installed before it shutdown- ok. I walk away for a minute and come back to screen talking about an error with the BIOS update. It wouldn’t let me exit. Not wanting to click the wrong thing and mess up this expensive device, I took it to the Geek Squad (a 5 minute drive). By the time I got there, the laptop was SO HOT (the fans weren’t even running at this time) that it couldn’t be touched except by holding it with the tips of your fingers, at the sides. There was a chemical smell coming from it as well. It took it a long time to come down to a touchable temperature. They got it to update and it was all good as if it had never gotten that hot. I took it home, packaged it up, and returned it asap. I was not willing to spend 2k on a laptop that could get THAT hot (no joke, the guys hand sprung up so fast when he touched it). It was a literal fire hazard. And that smell? I’m guessing the glue inside- but was there any left? Who knows.

    Horrible customer service from BestBuy & ASUS. Read the fine print carefully. ASUS has a free 1 year Accidental Protection Program, but the fine print states that products purchased from Best Buy are not covered. They did not point this out at time of purchase, neither did they offer any other ADP program at time of purchase. Found out this when the laptop stopped working within 2 weeks and had to take it into Geek Squad for warranty service. They claimed liquid damage and estimated cost of repair , to be covered entirely by the customer was over $4000, almost 2X the cost of the laptop, outside standard warranty. I've had a good experience with Best Buy purchases in the past but beware of discounts that are only marginally better than other authorized retailers as you may get a better overall service experience from other places in case you should need it. The ASUS ROG Zephyrus laptop is pretty good overall, however seems quite fragile based on this experience. When it worked, AI models ran very well on the Nvidia RTX 5070Ti GPU, and the 32GB RAM paired well. ASUS and Best Buy need to step up their customer service.

    The ASUS Zephyrus G14 has a stylish design, powerful GPU (5070 ti) and stunning display. I bought a 2024 model for my daughter as a graduation present and was happy with the purchase. Unfortunately the mediatek wifi 7 card created enough problems for me (throttling download and upload speeds to 10 percent of home wifi while all other devices maintained consist speeds) that it made gaming and web browsing unbearable. Ultimately, I decided to return this laptop and purchased the Asus Strix g16 model for a comparable price (+$100). A $2500 laptop should not have difficulty with standard web browsing.

    Best Buy Customer Support Scammed Me

    I don't usually like to review the product poorly when the issue was actually the customer service but I've tried everything else at this point. I ordered an open box version of this laptop in excellent condition last month. It was shipped to me via Fedex. I was late to work for 3 days straight trying to get the package but Fedex never rang my doorbell, and I wasn't allowed to set the delivery to go to a nearby Fedex location. After 3 days of Fedex "trying" to deliver, I was told the package was being sent back to Best Buy. Incredibly frustrated, I contacted BB to see if I can get the item sent back to me again. They say no problem, we'll place an order for a replacement for you. Two hours after I get off the phone with BB, my order is cancelled. I reach out again and am told because it was open box they don't have the item available anymore. I look on the website - they have an open box item in excellent condition listed for $300 more than I originally paid. So I call again. I'm told by the first customer service person that they can discount the item for me to the price that I originally paid (because that would be the right thing to do right) then transferred to a second person to execute the sale who says that there is no way for me to purchase this item for the amount I originally paid. I'm frustrated because this means that one of the two BB reps has lied to me and I've wasted hours on this. The next day my fiancé reaches out to them and is told they can't discount the price but they can issue a refund within 24h after I make the purchase. That works, we make the purchase, no refund comes in. 48h later my fiancé calls again and is told that this isn't a thing Best Buy does and they aren't going to issue a partial refund even though the first rep we spoke to assured us they would. So now we've just been tricked into spending WAY more than we wanted to on a computer because BB said they were going to refund us and then walked it back. This is an actual scam. I can't begin to convey how much time and money we wasted on this situation and how mad I am that Best Buy stole money and at minimum 5 hours of my life on the phone with customer support from me like that. Honestly minor compared to anything else but they also told my fiancé they would send the new laptop with USPS due to our Fedex issue - they did not, they sent it with Fedex agian. DO NOT BUY FROM BEST BUY good lord what a horrible experience this has been.

    A warning if you buy this laptop

    I’ve had so many issues with this laptop. Im on my third one in less than a month and its due to the quality control issues on Asus’s end. The first g14 I used had a faulty motherboard. Then my second g14’s screen cracked without dropping it at all or by user error. This all happened in less than 2 months. Please do yourself a favor and buy something reliable like a Mac. If you have to use windows then build a PC if possible. This is not worth the hassle of wasted hours, losing work, or trying to send it to asus for repair under warranty. This device is not reliable even if you take the best care of it and ultimately this is due to asus’s quality control issues.

    Stop enabling Asus and paid shills

    This may be against the grain but this laptop is awful. Most of the reviews I see appear to be from paid sponsors rather than actual IT professions in the industry (ie me) Most reviewers are going to focus on gaming this or elegant that. I rather am going to talk about things others won't say. First the sheet metal especially on the bottom lid is laughably thin. I honestly wish I took a photo but those of you who bought this device see for yourself. Most laptops use haptic screws or at least screw threads that are capped at the ends preventing over-torquing. This laptop has neither which could allow someone to torque down the bottom lid enough that it no longer sits flat against a desk or similar surface causing it to rock side-to-side like a bad bar stool. Additionally the metal is so thin that two separate units I purchased showed sagging along the lip enough to catch a finger nair right below the track pad deck where the laptop is splitting open. First unit I returned thinking it was battery swelling. Second unit I took apart and its honestly the screw assembly compounded by the thin sheet metal that is easily bent is to blame. This is why the laptop pops and creaks when you hold it in various positions (like the left or right corners) because the device is flexing from mechanical stresses which does not bode well for long term reliability. Second this device seems to have serious suspend-on-resume or parasitic losses which makes the use of sleep and hibernate impossible which is the entire point of a laptop. Attempting to do so will result in an almost or totally drained battery if left overnight without a charger. Positives of this device include that you *can* use an eGPU without error 43 and it does support forced igpu for battery savings. Also if you are willing to shut down rather than suspend the laptop it is rare to find a device this thin and this small with reasonable thermals. Despite what people say the fan noise is very overblown although putting it on a cooling pad would be ideal or simply place the laptop upside down when in use with a dock. This laptop honestly needs to be thicker on all fronts by about 1-2mm. That would be enough to provide the correct structural rigidity it needs to put it on par with a MBP. As it stands right now the only thing you get with a device like this over others is the brand name only. TLDR, wait for a redesigned chassis this device is exactly like the butterfly MBPs and cannot be fixed. It will fail from motherboard flexing because the chassis has the strength of tin foil.

    Serious Shutdown Issue Despite Excellent Condition

    I bought this laptop open-box and its condition was excellent. However, I was surprised to find that when I shut it down and turn it back on, the screen stays black while the fan runs at full speed. It doesn’t turn off no matter what I do, and the only way to stop it is to wait until the battery completely drains. This issue has happened three times so far.

Do a power cycle by pressing and holding down the power button to shut it down completely, then power on. If it powers on but stays on black screen after at least 10 minutes, repeat the power cycle process again. If the laptop is applying updates in the System Registry, it will black screen temporarily until the update is applied successfully. Additionally, try to disconnect the power cable and let the unit drain for 24 hours to clear the memory. This will reset the hardware to default settings. After doing this, reconnect your AC adapter, do not power on the laptop until the battery is charged.     Computer works as intended. However Asus service is deplorable. I had a unique issue in upgrading to windows pro for work and their only solution was to return it to Best Buy for service on day 2 of ownsership A simple reformating fixed it after zero support from Asus.

    Broken whenever I power it up. The screen blinks several times then goes black. I could not return to Best Buy I had to ship it back to the manufacturer and they made it worst. Am still paying on it. What now??

    Not worth the full price

    The price dropped by $350 just 30 days after I bought it. I'm guessing it might not be selling well, so they’re trying to clear it out. It’s disappointing as a customer who just paid full price. It really feels like talking to a chatbot when I’m trying to get help from live support, there’s just not enough personal understanding or flexibility. It’s frustrating!

    Unstable laptop

    Computer reboots randomly, wifi is unstable, and even Youtube stutters. For over $2000 this is completely unacceptable.
