Excellent Multipurpose Laptop ; Driver Issues

It plays games well and the 120hz screen really makes fast paced shooters and MOBAs a better experience. However, the drivers for this laptop are notoriously spotty. My laptop had a software defect which continuously drained battery life at a rate which absolutely ate up the otherwise excellent 90Wh battery. Battery life away from the wall was one of the main drawing points and my unit's failure led me to return it and wait for a 2021 Zephyrus G15 instead. I can not recommend this product based on my personal experience. However, it is highly regarded by many and your mileage may vary.

An absolute beast but an unstable one
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this computer as Open Box, it looked new, no signs of wear or any imperfections. However, I constantly get blue screens of death. The curious fact is that this has never happened while putting stress on this PC i.e. while playing demanding games, it usually happens when playing videos or while on a conference call. Sometimes it will show the blue screen of death and when it boots back on it will not start the Audio Service, this could be fixed by rebooting again except last time nothing I did solved the issue so had to Reset back to factory settings and lose all my downloaded games. I want to love this PC but it seems to be very unstable.

What the heck

Both hardware and software issues seem involved. Since getting this device its been a nightmare that has now delayed out till past being returnable. Its as if its possessed as it randomly has specific issues. I was really looking forward to this being an awesome device. The wireless internet connection, sizing fonts throughout device is not consistent. When saving a created document the icon on the desktop moves position as if its a newly saved document. battery life is said to be 10 hours while you are gaming that has not been the case with this device. I just wanted a working computer.

Great if you don't use all its features.

Powerful, sleek, light-weight. It does get uncomfortably hot while gaming but I assume it was designed to withstand this. BUT, after 5 months one day it did not turn on or charge. Reading online, apparently if you use a dock with this laptop it will randomly die. I use a docking station, it died, coincidence? Anyways, BestBuy is going to attempt to fix it, claims I won't have it for 4-5 weeks, and for all I know it could happen again as soon as I use my dock. Meanwhile some janky $300 laptop I had several years ago in college still works. Buyer beware if you plan to use a dock.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: - Boots Up Fast - Runs Fast - Very Portable and Powerful - Keyboard Layout is Nice - Armoury Crate Software is simple and efficient - Computer Shell is Very Strong (Especially Around Screen) - Good Ventilation Cons: - Backlighting in Keyboard is Horrible - Machine Gets Very Hot - Battery Inconsistent and Short (1.5 to 2 hours on a full charge) - Lack of Ports (Also USB ports on right side of the machine) - No Ethernet Port - Battery Issues Causing Bootup Issues - Speakers aren't very loud - Charger is MASSIVE in size - Even on Quiet mode, Laptop Fans are VERY LOUD.

Amazing but can't get over OBNOXIOUS coil whine
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really, really, really love everything about this laptop except for one, very annoying affliction, the coil whine. It has a very high pitched noise coming from under the directional keys on the keyboard. I have noticed that it is louder when the discrete GPU is not drawing any power (0 volts) as seen in Armory crate. The more voltage going to the DGPU, the less noticeable the coil whine is. This is a deal breaker as I use this laptop for working from home and often in a very quiet environment which then really makes the coil whine obvious (I'm also not sure if this will cause a more major problem down the road). I have tried about a million different suggested troubleshooting avenues including turning up the backlighting all the way, cleaning and reinstalling all AMD drivers, fresh install of windows 10, etc. none have worked. I enjoy this laptop so much, otherwise, so I am going to try and find (or hope for a fix from asus) a fix up until my return window closes, but if that doesn't happen, this thing is going back. It is really unfortunate because this much power in this small of a form factor is amazing and exactly what I was looking for. 0 complaints about fan noise. Barely hear them while doing minimal tasks (internet browsing, video streaming). Of course, while gaming you can hear them but they are quieter than a razer blade 15 I returned because it sounded like it was blasting off to space while just doing web browsing. I'm not computationally gifted enough to know if the coil whine can be fixed by a simple update (firmware, software, etc) but if it can be, please, ASUS, find a fix. This laptop has been the best one I have owned otherwise (and I have owned about 15 of them in my life). I will update my review if a fix can be had prior to my return window closing. I really wanted to love this machine....

Bad hdmi for my unit

I had to return it because the display output was intermittently failing.

GPU Fan (right side) clearly DEFECTIVE -- Rattles

Owned for 10 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got one of the early deliveries of this much talked about G14 gaming laptop. After a few months, the right "GPU" fan started making rattling sounds that would wake the dead. Sounds like a buzz saw! These fans don't use bearings but are ultra thin and float magnetically when spinning so I am thinking that fan is somehow unbalanced. Blowing out with compressed air doesn't help solve it. Rattling starts and stops every few days and is not acceptable. When this fan rattles, it won't go over 2500 RPM (the working "CPU" fan throttles full up to 8000 RPM when manual forced). Going to try and get it fixed under warranty but hope Best Buy actually fixes it and doesn't just claim they "cleaned it out with blown air". This should not happen with an almost $1500 laptop. Quality control is clearly lacking in this ASUS product. Others have had the same problem with this loud, rattling right side "GPU" fan so it clearly involves poor quality control at ASUS. GPU could get fried if this fan isn't properly cooling this section of the laptop. I suspect that many people reporting GPU problems on the G14 (ie. bad screens) perhaps had a dead or dying "GPU" fan that may have let the GPU overheat and eventually cook itself into oblivion.

So disappointed...

Unfortunately, even after turning on the power saver and turning off the GPU to run on integrated graphics I'm only getting 1 hour 50 minutes of battery life. The product description said 10 and I'd have been fine with 8, but 2 is not going to work for me. After working with 3 reps I was told to return it which just makes me infinitely sad. If I end up getting it replaced instead I'll update my review here.

Good but

I would not recommend ASUS- ROG Zephyrus G14

It started making huge noise with vibration within months. I had given it for fixing the fan noise and got it back after 3 weeks. It was quiet for one week and again started making more fan noise with vibration. I am trying to call Best Buy to talk about this but its on hold for more than an hour. Would not recommend this gaming laptop.

Came out of box with crashing issues

I contacted ASUS for support during my one year warranty period. The ASUS rep instructed me to bring the laptop to Best Buy, as Best Buy was my designated support provider. When I brought the laptop into Best Buy, they couldn't work on the computer unless I bought an annual Geek Squad subscription. Otherwise, all they could do for me was to send it back to ASUS (which I could have done myself). The Best Buy rep suggested I buy an external drive, back up my laptop, and reinstall windows fresh to see if the problems persisted. I rebooted the Windows OS, but I still have crashing problems. I'm not sure if this is a highly recurring problem with this model, though I have seen similar BSOD/black screen crashing problems brought up in online forums. I would not recommend this product, mostly for the poor customer support. Consumers should be able to expect that there ~$1500 laptop works correctly.

Mine barely lasts a few hours, gaming or browsing...disappointing.

Very good but new version fixes issues

Great performing laptop but with heating issues

Since the beginning, I had to tune my CPU down because it was getting too hot. Idling temperatures were around 55-60 celsius and 100 celsius while under load (eg. gaming), which is high. Since updating to Windows 11, laptop randomly freezes with black screen. I cannot pin point what is causing it.

QC Issues...

Great Price! Nice Design. I bought it for my main photography works. It is fast... However, it doesn't turn off.. I can't update windows or restart keep showing blue screen... and Speaker is making popcorn sound at the beginning when the sound come out. It is good laptop for specification.. but not on hands...
