Many also praise the build quality and powerful GPU. However, some users express concerns regarding the device's tendency to overheat, the keyboard backlight, and the noticeable fan noise. Great Laptop, Just Didn't Need it Anymore

What a great laptop. Looks professional, and is incredibly fast for whatever your task is. I hooked it up to an external monitor for gaming, and an external keyboard and mouse when I was at home. On the go, I'd unplug it and bring it with me to study. Pros; - Fast - Sleek - Light - Slim Cons; - Loud - My unit had a graphical error whenever I'd alt-tab out of League of Legends specifically, and played a minor role in my choice to return it. - Battery Life; Battery life is actually pretty good, but you're not able to game without it plugged in. There are tips and tricks that you can do in order for to get 10 hours of battery on the laptop, but realistically I got 7 hours max which isn't too bad. Reason I didn't end up keeping it; I intended to get this for mostly school and some light gaming. When the pandemic hit, it really put a hold in-person learning, so the need for portability wasn't as necessary to me. I ended up returning it because of the following reasons; 1. I didn't need a laptop if I was staying home mostly 2. I paid for this laptop with "portability" being one of the main reasons. Since I wasn't able to go out and bring it with me, I decided to put together a pc at home instead for myself. 3. The RTX 2060 inside the G14 is the max-Q variant, so it consumes less power and also produces less frames than the desktop RTX 2060. I returned the G14 and with the money spent, put myself together a system consisting of a Ryzen 5600X and a RTX 3060. With how gpu prices are right now, it might be more advisable to get this laptop instead, since the shortage has caused such and inflation in computer component prices.

I have had quite a few problems with this laptop, specifically when it comes to creative workflows, and PD. So I was using PD on the USB-C port like it says you can on their website. The data on that port is completely dead, the wireless keyboard I use wont accept the wireless receiver anymore so I have to use the bluetooth. The heat is quite an issue, as is the fan noise. I even replaced the thermal paste it helped with overheating causing black screens that wouldnt turn back on without a hard reset. I know it sounds like I dont like the laptop, but I really do. I have to bring it back to best buy and use the warranty, but I really cant be without a computer for what will probably be about 3 months (based off my last experience with the accidental damage claims). So yeah in a weird position where basically none of my IO is working properly, but I need the computer still. CPU performance is excellent and the 2060 mobile does a good job. I really like the keyboard and trackpad, and the high refresh rate screen. I did get frustrated enough to the point where I am currently on a 2020 macbook air. I would prefer to use the G14, but I need working IO for what I do on the computer.

Fastest laptop I've owned, decent build quality; the only caveats being the keyboard which even with backlight is rather low-contrast, and the trackpad which can be a tad finicky. AMD + nVidia graphics drivers seem to be coexisting quite well; would have preferred a homogeneous package with both internal and discrete AMD GPU's, maybe the OEM's will have a decent option for that on next purchasing cycle (whenever that may be)

Gaming or Work... What to do?

First impressions of the laptop, that it looks and feels like a premium product. Mostly all metal construction, light and compact. Upon opening the laptop, design is made to run as efficiently as possible with vents on the front of the screen and below the laptop. The screen is vivid and has a small bezel. The keyboard and work area, although has a useable surface for gaming isn't made to be used for long term work. The keyboard is about 20% smaller than a standard sized keyboard. The finish of the work area is also metal in construction but, the coating used makes the work area look cheap. Mouse pad seems to be constructed with a material similar to glass. The pad feels very smooth with no resistance. Click action feels similar to other laptops with integrated left and right mouse button. I've recently upgraded from a Lenovo Legion i7 16gb ram, self-installed 500gb SSD, and Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti and this was worth the upgrade. Hardware feels snappy and responsive. During gaming there are different "modes" to choose, ranging from turbo with fans blasting to silent, no noise at all. Framerate is stable with the GTX 2060 MQ. If you do choose this laptop series you'll not be disappointed. One bit of advice for gaming. Since the laptop is compact, it will get warm to hot while gaming. Heat degrades electronics. Set you "Armour Crate" setting to turbo performance and on windows set the power management to "aggressive efficient". This will boost your graphics card and windows will try to efficiently keep your cores as cool as possible. If you do not need the boost in performance just set the power management on windows to "aggressive efficient. I am now a fan of ROG.

You can never go wrong with AMD's Ryzen chips that are great for a multitude of different use cases. Paired with the 2060 Max-Q, you can even get some decent gaming on this sleek and sturdy; provided by the magnesium body. The glass top touchpad is smooth, accurate, and responsive and the keyboard has only a little flex. Battery life has been fantastic; even compared to my larger laptop from just a couple of years ago.

I got this laptop to serve as a backup to my other Zephyrus which is a G15. This one is a 14 inch display unit so slightly smaller. I've found it to be a great laptop for just about anything from gaming to general browsing. It will also serve as a backup for handling live stream for church services. I've tested it with OBS and several NDI sources, and it works very well with no issues. Editing recorded video is nice and fast. The screen presents well and I am able to set my Windows to 3840 x 2160. Cooling is great with fan noise becoming audible only under heavier loads (like rendering a video edit or conversion). Very happy with I/O ports. There are two USB-A and two USB-C (one can power and drive a USB-C monitor), an HDMI port, and a 3.5 mm headset jack. There is a good selection of function buttons on the keyboard also. Plenty of storage on the included 1TB SSD. I have not looked inside yet but I believe there is a second empty slot for another PCI SSD. Run MS Office application for everyday stuff. It has been a solid and great performer and am very happy with it. The only complaint I have is with the backlighting of the keyboard. It plain white backlighting and under certain conditions it can be hard to see the symbols on the keytops. I don't think this model has colored keyboard backlighting. I do highly recommend this one. I'm pretty sure this is a Best Buy exclusive model. It is a great on price/performance so get yours while they are still available.

This is the 5th Asus ROG laptop I've owned -- G73, G74, G75, Strix GL502, and now the G14. I've loved every one of them. But this one is special. How special? Up until now, I've always had to carry my power-brick with me. Battery life on those machine was dismal and you could only count on a few hours, at best --- and that was just browsing the Net or creating a document in Word. Graphic intense games on just battery? Not unless you enjoy your system going dead before your game character does. Battery life on this laptop is epic, by comparison. Some reviews have reported up to 11 hours. I've only tested up to 9, running various apps. 9 hrs on a serious gaming laptop is phenomenal. The other thing that makes this laptop unique from the 17-inch gaming laptops I've purchased in the past is the size. 14-inch. It's the smallest I've ever purchased. I rarely play games on my laptop's screen. I usually play on a larger monitor, so the screen size of the laptop was less a problem than a gain --- smaller size meant less to carry. Significantly longer battery life meant that I didn't have to carry the power brick with me everywhere. It's truly nice to have such a powerful and wickedly fast machine in this slim and lightweight form. Add to cart.

I've had this computer for several weeks now and I'm very happy with it. I play Eve Online and it can handle running multiple clients simultaneously at max video settings. It does get a little warm and there is noticeable fan noise at times but nothing excessive in my opinion. It’s very light weight compared to a normal size laptop. If you’re looking for a notebook sized gaming computer I think you’ve found it here.

I have had this system for over a year now and I am still extremely satisfied with the CPU and GPU capabilities. I can run most new games at high or ultra settings without performance issues. The system does get very hot but that is to be expected with a system this size. I recommend getting a cooling pad system to save your legs from getting too hot.

Had this laptop since release(2020)and man oh man it’s still holding up well. While RTX cards are in the 3000 generations right now,I still love the RTX 2060. Just to give some insite recently a game came out (Elden Ring by fromsof and Bandai) is a somewhat demanding game for capabilities , flawlesslesst I was able to enjoy the game at high-med settings. Basically it has a nice mid tier performance that is smooth. I have tried pushing it’s limits with higher settings but it def started to show some FPS drops. Still a great machine for modern day gaming. While you should buy the latest and greatest RTX 3000 versions, if you can get an phenomenal deal on the 2060 cards you won’t be disappointed . My rule of thumb with laptops would usually be have the lifespan be around 5-8 years then upgrade, but at the end of the day it all depends on how heavy that is going to be used for gaming. The light weight , beautiful sleek design, thin bezel, and amazing performance it’s hard to beat. I’ve used it for working and class work tasks as well and that Ryzen 9 CPU pack a punch 10/10 buy this if you are in the market for an amazing all around gaming/work laptop I love Lenovo and Razer laptops as well but ASUS has def changed me lol

Absolutely love this laptop, 1080 FHD screen Ryzen 9 Octcore cpu sips power. RTX 2060 Max Q. For a gaming laptop this one is mightly compact and doesn't scream gamer! the keyboard lighting is lacking though only 1 color and uneven lighting. No thunderbolt port is also a big drawback if you want to use a E-GPU. Upgradability, only 1 SODIMM slot 8gb is onboard so 40gb max with a 32gb stick, only 1 m.2 slot too.

I narrowed down my choices to HP Omen 15 and ROG G14 Bought HP Omen 15 2020 Intel version, but suffered from the heaing problem (it restarted every 5 hours under moderate workload.) Returned it to bestbuy and then got G14. G14 is better in everyway. The build. The speed. Thermos. I can live with the no webcam, which actually might be a good privacy design. Just bought a 20 dollar webcam from Amazon.

this is my first gaming rig or laptop and its just so amazing in performance for the price, i could go hours on end in vrchat to only have my CPU reach 70 degrees C and less then 70 on my GPU (keep in mind that i had the laptop on top of a stack of books for better air circulation), it performs amazingly well for a laptop and at its given price point, is definitely worth the money.

I bought into the hype train on this and got this machine as soon as I could find it in early May, by early June my left fan bearing was rattling badly. I contacted ASUS/Best Buy and was and am eligible for RMA, but given that it would mean 3-ish weeks without the machine, I elected to hold off as otherwise it was functioning nicely. This brings me to my mixed review. Pros: - It's a beast in a 14" shell. I can play most games at max settings at over 60FPS (possible thanks to the 120 monitor). It also does nicely with productively and design software. Color/Brightness are good enough for my needs. - Battery life is great, especially given the power. Obviously, battery drops significantly when using it heavily, but it's nice to be able to use it for document editing/browsing/etc. on battery for extended periods. - Sleek, not overly gamery design. Lightweight. I love the 14inch profile. Compared to my previous computer, it's just so much nicer to carry around. Cons: - The fan. Bad luck perhaps, but having a $1400 machine have a fan bearing start to go out after about a month put a damper on my enthusiasm. It seems a matter of time before the fan gives up the ghost, and potentially fries my system :D. - Software/driver support is glitchy. There are a lot of bugs, probably born of being a 1st gen adopter of the new AMD processors and such. One of the more annoying things I encountered early on was that Photoshop 2020 (light rendering) did not work well with the RTX2060. I reverted to PS2019 which works fine. This may have been fixed since, but I haven't checked. Likewise the audio drivers are a bit of a mess and I've had all sorts of issues with DAWs and recording. I've managed to get it to function, but it's not smooth. - The WiFi card is bad. It's probably not the card's fault actually. But on older routers, it drops the connection constantly, which is frustrating to say the least. There are some solutions that help remedy this, but they aren't guaranteed to work. Otherwise update your router. Mixed/no comment: - I think the keyboard is fine. Typing feels good (and the extended space bar is brilliant). I know many people complain about the backlight, but I don't usually have it on. And in the cases when I actually need it, it's fine. - Heat. It get's really hot. Painful if you touch certain points. This is concerning, but probably reasonable for the size/power range. There are solutions to limit the processor to help keep it cooler while still getting decent output. Conclusion: This really is an impressive computer just in terms of capabilities for its size class. Quality control seems to be a bit lacking however. So, I like the computer in most regards, but considering the price and my problems with it, I probably wouldn't buy it again. YMMV and I imagine later batches will be better. Overall,

Really fast and great for gaming and work. Amazing full HD display with 120hz refresh rate. A few things wrong with it : 1. It does not have a camera, it doesn’t bother me but good to know. 2. Finger print unlocking almost never works (and the lack of camera makes for no Windows hello) 3. Key black light is not very bright. If you can live with does 3 things, Amazing laptop.

Bought this for my “gamer son, 4.0 student” 2020 high school graduate, as a gift for college. He loves it! It’s got the new great AMD processor and a sturdy video card for gaming. Quick startup with plenty of RAM and storage. Initially it was showing some lag when we first started it up and downloaded and played some games. We updated the Invidia drivers for the graphics card and everything has been smooth since. So make sure you do all updates when you get this beast. One caveat my son noted was his frame rate dropped when gaming when he was running on just the battery and not plugged in. Probably a power conservation feature that can be turned off in settings. Also heard the fans can be loud but didn’t find that to be too bad or distracting. Overall a great purchase for us.

I'm not sure really where to begin with this, ASUS has definitely provided one of the best small formfactor gaming laptops, its super sleek, thin and light considering how big of a punch it packs. Armed with a ryzen 9 5900hs (one of the fastest you can get on a laptop platform) it offers incredible multitasking capabilities and an overall smooth experience with very little throttling The rtx 2060 max-q allows for amazing game play and only once since I've had it has it throttled under heavy load which can be expected from a laptop sized gpu. I play and stream games on the go as I travel for work and this has been a dream to work with. The battery life is ok, definitely keep your charger handy. The screen quality is impressive though it maxes at 1080p, but the color profiles and resolution are beautiful the darks are dark and the lights are light, very clear crisp contrasts. Anyone looking for a good gaming laptop without spending over 2,000 look no further. Id definitely recommend this to the gamer/ photographer/ youtuber/ streamer on the go.

The Good: 1. Nice looking design. 2. Unparalleled performance in such a small package. 3. Good cooling design. 4. Good screen. 5. Good build quality. 6. Fair price. The bad: 1. As reported in many reviews, the keyboard backlit sometimes make it even hard to read the print letters on the keyboard. 2. Touchpad feel is not as good as competitors. 3. Limited options in BIOS: a. No able to swap Fn and Ctrl functionalities. b. No able to toggle function keys modes. 4. Speakers are not loud enough and I think it would be better to have speaker at top left and right corner of the laptop. The ugly: 1. Fans keep running at 2500rpm regardless of how low the cpu/gpu temperature is, even in silent mode. It's noisy in quite environment like bedroom when doing basic tasks. I would never expect a $1500 laptop to behave like this. 2. Manual fan curve functionality is simply broken. You will have various of issues like: Fan doesn't spin up at all even at 95C, or Fan spin up suddenly like crazy even at 55C, or Fan spin up and down constantly for no reason. 3. Manual fan curve is not available in battery mode.

Regarding your fan issue, if you haven't already please use the link below to update your BIOS, VGA and chipset drivers, along with any available Windows updates. When toggling between settings in Armoury Crate, the fan should not have a static RPM. I will also forward your feedback on the other aspects of the machine to the Product team for review. the rog zephyrus g14 is a great laptop for a lot of people, gamers and content creators. it has a decently colour accurate 1080p IPS 120Hz screen (although the response time is not the best), and pretty long battery life considering the power underneath. I get 7-8 Hours off the charger personally, but your mileage may vary. ****DISCLAIMER*** I highly recommend checking out the official subreddit /r/ZephyrusG14 and following the guide to disable boosting on the Ryzen 9 4900HS. Doing so drastically increases both battery life and decreases temperatures while gaming without much performance loss. I went from 90c average in Destiny 2 to around 77c.
