Fantastic Performance After Tweaks
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, I love this notebook. The price-to-performance is excellent, the "gamer" design is mostly subtle, and the battery life is stellar after some software tweaks. The CPU and GPU pack serious muscle for a notebook of this size, weight, and price. I have no trouble hitting 120 FPS (the max refresh rate of the display) on high settings in most games, minus heavier titles like The Witcher 3 and Doom Eternal, which require medium settings to hit that magic number. More powerful gaming laptops exist at this price point, but they all make tradeoffs in size, weight, build quality, and battery life. The Ryzen 9 4900HS beats the pants off any Intel-based competitor in its class, including the Razer Blade Stealth 13. The design deserves praise as well. It's clean, slim, and doesn't scream "Gamer" at everyone in a two-mile radius (minus the unremovable ROG badge on the lid). I'm also happy with the ~3.5 lb. weight -- about as light as you can get on a gaming laptop. The downsides of this laptop are the stock power and fan settings. Long story short, after following some software tweaking guides on the Zephyrus G14 subreddit, I was able to get 2-3 more hours of battery life, drop my CPU and GPU temperatures by almost 20 degrees, and reduce fan noise by about 30%. I highly recommend doing the same if you purchase this notebook. If you have the patience to spend some time optimizing your settings, you'll be blown away by what you can get out of this PC. Other notes/technical stuff: - Both models that Best Buy sells do not include the AniMe Matrix lighting option on the lid. - Port selection is good: 1 HDMI, 2 USB-C 3.2 Gen 2x2 (both of which support up to 65W PD charging), 2 USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, and the AC Adapter port. I would have liked to see an Ethernet jack given this is a gaming laptop, but adapters aren't hard to find these days. The USB-C ports do NOT support Thunderbolt 3. - You'll need to use the included power brick to achieve full performance from the CPU and GPU, but you can charge with any standard USB-C PD brick in a pinch. - Under the hood, you have access to an M.2 slot (limited to PCIe Gen 2), an Intel Wi-Fi 6 card under the SSD, and a single RAM slot. This model has one 8 GB stick soldered to the motherboard, and another 8 GB stick in the slot. - There have been reports of fried motherboards when charging via the AC Adapter while plugged in to USB-C PD docks/monitors. Your mileage may vary.

Fast CPU and terrible keyboard backlighting
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This computer is crazy fast! Great for an on-the-go content creator. That said, the keyboard backlighting is terrible and the small form factor makes for really high temperatures while under load. For $1450 it's hard to pass up if you can live with the drawbacks, I couldn't, so I returned it

High performance for such a portable form factor
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: An awesome laptop and it carries the perk for being so portable. I can game anywhere. Specs are top-notch for the price and the moonlight white chassis is amazing. Ryzen FTW! Cons: Runs a bit uncomfortably warm and the fans do get noisy at high power. Screen is beautiful with the 120Hz refresh but response times is disappointing - Almost unreliable in competitive FPS games.

Great laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is a beast, that being said it runs relatively hot. This is no surprise as you can't realistically expect a gaming laptop to run cool without an actual cooling pad. Keyboard feels great when typing. A lot of people complain about the keyboard backlighting but that seems kind of dumb in my honest opinion. I mean, who needs to look at their keyboard when typing?.

So far, so good
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you consider that my last computer was a Dell from 2006, I don't have much to compare to. I will say that even just opening the box was impressive. The cardboard mimics opening the laptop itself. I was surprised by how little instructions it had. Just charge for 3 hours and turn it on. LOL. The laptop itself is beautiful. I noticed that a tiny bit, on the back of the laptop, was missing some paint. Not enough to really bother me though. The laptop lost one star for the simple fact that it seems to have difficulty detecting my fingerprint, with my index finger, but it detects my middle finger just fine. That tells me that it's not very strong in detection. I decided to play a game, last night. I chose The Secret World, since I used to play the original on my old PC, but never got to play the new version. This is where the fan got kind of loud on me. It made me nervous. The laptop has a key that shows me all the system stats, however. I was able to see that the laptop was not overheating, and was within normal range of 60-90F. The battery life is good. I was able to use the laptop all day, yesterday, without needing to charge it. Overall, I'm glad I could get something so tiny, and useful. I will update if there is trouble

Good laptop, bad thermals
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall a good laptop but the thermals are just not that great. It really heats up when playing a medium-ish demanding game. The backlighting on the keyboard is also awful. But, it’s one of the sleekest laptops I ever owned and it packed quite a punch. It was also very reasonably priced. I enjoy the 2021 G15 much more now, however.

Excellent slim and powerful AMD Ryzen laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Light and thin. 14 in screen offers superb display. The most powerful AMD Ryzen mobile chip with 8 cores. Top of the line 4900HS chip found only in this Asus model. Powerful battery lasts a whole day. Runs very smoothly. Highly recommended!

Had to return twice...
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While the first version I got had bad coil whine, the other two were not devoid of it. It is certainly annoying when the laptop suddenly makes high pitched noises. The 2nd one had keyboard issues ontop of the coil whine issue. Some of the keys were loose or not fitted properly,it also shut down randomly a few times. Now I'm on the 3rd version, and although it makes some coil whine at this point I'll just accept it. It has blue screened twice and until the new update the battery was around 5 hours (now about 7.5). Why the 3 stars then ? Because when ignoring the poor quality control and looking at the other aspects this laptop is really nice. Plays games well, has a good battery (after the recent update), and looks sleek. It's really the only choice consumers have in this category and price range. But from other reviews, it seems like I was just really unlucky. Additionally this laptop has a dedicated fan base on reddit, and they are helpful when it comes to dealing with problems.

Versatile, powerful, modern, power efficient
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent Macbook replacement and it's equipped with plenty of graphics power has an amazing Ryzen 9 processor which is revolutionary as it runs very cool and sips on battery power, I get 10 hours battery power on average while primarily using Firefox as I work. I tried several newer games on it and it handled all of them smoothly on maximum settings with no hesitation. Initially, I thought the fan and heat were too much but after some checking, I discovered it ran at 83C CPU temp and 73C GPU temp which by laptop standards is very good and stable. My item was an open box return and I was shocked to find out that it surpassed the quality and condition which was described in the open box return section, best buy delivered. I simply needed a laptop that is light, reliable, powerful, and can be used for work and leisure and this can do it all. I also researched how to get the most out of battery life and plenty of aids out there in the Reddit community. The keyboard and trackpad are great, especially the trackpad which feels very similar to a Macbook pro, I was amazed by its quality and precision. This unit checks all the boxes for me, it may not be the best laptop for those who want a larger screen however, if you're used to a 13" Macbook then this will suit you well.

What a BEAST
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will start with the bad: The keyboard light is horrible unless it is in a pitch black room. Any light will cause the letters to not be readable. The laptop does get EXTREMELY hot when gaming on ultra settings (which the laptop can handle) but CPU temps reach 90 c and the vents are hot to the touch. Apart from that, this thing is a beast. It can handle just about anything (even Division 2 on Ultra settings and Ray Tracing enabled). I have not had any issues with screen going black or other problems people have reported. All in all, I am in love with this laptop.

Great Gaming Laptop With Features
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop features an NVIDIA GeForce whose service is unparalleled as far as ease of use and availability to upgrade. The CPU is Ryzen and is the go-to for the modernized/upcoming gaming consoles so it goes without saying that this laptop is current in that regard. Albeit this is my first gaming laptop, it doesn’t need much work/extra hardware and is very slim.

FAST!!!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fastest laptop we've ever had! Reasonable weight. Keyboard lighting is strange - 4 levels, but lettering is only readable when it is full on or full off. There is a microphone but no camera. No SD card reader and no touchscreen. We had to get separate USB camera and SD card reader. That's the tradeoff for this much power at reasonable weight.

Great and dependable laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this laptop! It’s fast and has great graphics. I do not use it for gaming purposes. I use it for photography and personal usage. It works well with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. It also doesn’t overheat like other laptops I’ve had in the past. It’s very light and not bulky. The price was just right. I would recommend this laptop.

Small , fast , capable
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Small ,fast, and capable. Best way to describe this laptop. It runs the games i want to play well. I stream video via the HDMI out and it works 4x smoother than my old laptop. Love the color and size. Is a bit noisy when gaming because of the fans but it doesn't bother me. Wish i would have gotten the led display back though.

Great laptop for school or gaming
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this laptop. It’s great for gaming but the main reason I bought this was for school. The battery saver mode lasts up to 10 hours depending what you’re doing on it. It’s super light and very quiet. I gave it 4/5 due to the back lighting on the keyboard being awful and I have screen flickering here and there.

The Best gaming experience of my life yet!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.day 1 so far I switched from being a Xbox gamer for many many years and even bought the next gen series X. but today after purchasing this I have realized the cold hard truth there is no comparison in graphics and frames per second performance . Thus far I have ran 4 games Outriders, Call of duty black ops cold war. Far cry 5 and destiny 2 beyond light. The smoothness of game play and playing in ultra settings with DLSS is hands down the best gaming experience I have ever had. This is a extremely dedicated Xbox fanatic and I am saying today I switch to PC gaming all because of this beautiful sleek and thin machine. Also a foot note even if you are not a gamer this thing does it all and is the fastest portable laptop i have ever used. I mean serious click on a website it changes to the next before you can even blink I ran this thing to its true test to see if it would hold 27 tabs open on chrome a 4k game of outriders playing in the background and a movie at 1440p playing on VLC media player Not a hiccup at all this thing is truly one of a kind highly recommended!!

Great portable laptop with powerful graphics
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this laptop for a little over a month now and I can't recommend it enough. It is a *little* pricey for what you get, but overall, you're getting an ultrabook size laptop with a graphics card that can run most games either on Ultra with decent FPS (60+fps) or High with better frames (80+). Obviously, it depends on what game you're playing, so your mileage may vary. If you're a little more technically savvy, you can undervolt the GPU to keep the same performance with slightly lower temperatures. I've been playing CoD 2019, and it hovers around 80c-83c. I'm not savvy enough to know how to undervolt it, but I've read you can shave about 3c-4c off the temperature and keep roughly the performance. I highly recommend this to everyone if they're in the market for a light, portable laptop. Only con would be that without some tinkering in the files (there's a guide on Reddit), power on the battery is pretty bad, getting only about 2ish hours because it still uses the discrete GPU instead of switching to the Ryzen Vega iGPU. However, if you're able to switch some settings around, which forces the dDPU to turn off on battery, you can net about 7-9 hours on battery, depending on your usage.

Big things in a small package...
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great little gaming laptop for the price! I have it loaded down with games including AAA titles and everything works great. Have been playing AC: Valhalla on high settings and it plays smooth and looks fantastic on the laptop's screen. If you're playing on high settings, the fans definitely are not quiet, but they are not obnoxious either, in my opinion. Also, and it is no surprise considering the power in this tiny little body, this laptop can get pretty hot when playing AAA title on high or above. I highly recommend purchasing a stand or pad that elevates the laptop and allows more free airflow underneath, makes a noticeable difference in temp. Fan pads are probably over kill, just get some space underneath the laptop. Dabbled in VR a little bit with it but not enough to say how well it works, but it works. Oh and I was using the Oculus Quest 2.
