Customers appreciate the ROG Zephyrus G14's impressive performance, long battery life, and its compact, lightweight design, making it highly portable. Many also praise the build quality and powerful GPU. However, some users express concerns regarding the device's tendency to overheat, the keyboard backlight, and the noticeable fan noise. The lack of a webcam is another frequently cited drawback.

There's a reason this laptop is so highly rated. It's build quality and speed is unmatched for this price. Runs Alyx on Quest 2 at ultra-high setting.

Average Joe user here. Its been a while since I’ve had this laptop now. Have had no boot issues, no screen flickering, nothing deal breaking/heart breaking. For gaming, this is a wonderful piece of tech. I don’t stress it too much, tbh. I run Destiny 2 on this at 1080, 120fps. Ghosting and tearing isn’t a big issue, nothing detracts from the visual experience. Screen brightness is great, no issues using in a well-lit room but avoid direct sunlight on the screen. Audio, while not the best, will not bother you at all. I work as a sound engineer and audio quality is just fine for the average consumer. Keystrokes may take a little getting used to, slightly different feel and feedback if you’re used to traditional keyboards. I hook it up to a mechanical keyboard most times so not an issue. Trackpad is wide and pretty accurate. Built-in microphone works surprisingly well. Tested on Discord chat and no one had issue with it. Sat about two feet away from the laptop and clarity was fine. WiFi is fantastic. Had a few hiccups in the beginning but updating all drivers seems to have smoothed out the issues. So, Cons. Some of this is personal preference, so keep that in mind. Temps. Obviously, as a laptop, thermals are an issue. Keep this puppy elevated and the underside fans completely free of obstruction. The slight elevation from the lid is not enough. At its hottest, touching the keyboard felt like a warm seatbelt buckle. Ensure your room has good airflow and is relatively cool. I experimented with ambient temperature by blasting AC in my room to drop it to around 67F. I ran games nonstop for two hours and the laptop was only pleasantly warm at the end of that session (non-stop PvP, Gambit, Strikes, etc for fellow Guardians). If you keep your airflow and temps in the room good, no real problems. Fans are LOUD. Maybe change the curve/profile in Armoury Crate but they are loud and spin up immediately. Again, this is going to be tied directly to ambient room temperature. They spin up opening Chrome browsers but stay low db until something graphics intensive kicks in. Yes it’s a con but they do a good job keeping thermals in check if you pay attention to airflow and ambient temperature. There’s this weird snapping noise that comes from the speakers every once in a while. An hour or two in between? While not deal breaking, I sometimes worry if the speakers will blow out whenever I hear it. Color reproduction is okay at best. For the most part an average joe like me won’t really be bothered by it but if you want to use it for photo/video editing be aware that colors seem slightly washed out/low contrast/under saturated. It’s not terrible but something to keep in mind. Available ports. I am slightly inconvenienced by the few choices available. A docking station or USB-C hub with additional ports will solve most of those problems. Touch ID/Log in. It’s.....finicky at best. I’ve reset my fingerprint on it several times since it has an extremely hard time recognizing me. I’ve had best results by only gently laying my finger on the button after saving my fingerprint. Wishes: I so desperately wish it had an Ethernet port but WiFi is very very reliable so far. No latency issues in gaming or Discord chatting. Built in camera for video conferencing would have been nice but wholly unnecessary. Wish I realized this model doesn’t have the AniMe Matrix LEDs. Just an aesthetic choice, really. No detractions. Overall: great for the average Joe who does not demand much from a portable gaming rig/work station. Sleek, modern, lightweight, powerful. The pros vastly outweigh the cons imo. I recommend changing the battery profile to hold charging at 60% or 80% if it will spend most days tethered to the charging cable. Make sure you only have the graphics card take over for specific applications (games, etc). Don’t watch p*rn or whatever on it and get viruses. You’ll hate yourself. Treat this piece of hardware kindly and keep it for the long run.

Great, but no support for USB C hubs

Had to return the first one due to USB C charging issues. The replacement has been wonderful so far. One observation so far is that it does not play well with USB C power delivery hubs or PD charger based hubs. It blocks out the power signals if you’ve set the laptop to stop charging at 80 % (as suggested for longer battery life). This in turn blocks signals from connected devices like monitors and usb keyboards. I’m sure this is an easy software fix for Asus, but Id imagine someone must have mentioned using the laptop with a USB C hub that centralized power delivery and accessory use cases. For now, I’ve connected the traditional brick charger and the usb c hubs just sports accessories. Never had a problem since.

A VERY powerful laptop but if you do a lot of gaming I recommend one of those laptop stands with fans that cool the laptops. Definitely never sit this on your lap without a hard placemat under you.

Good laptop. Super quick and great for games. I like that it does not have a webcam. The screen is the best part because it goes all the way to the edge so it feels big. Best laptop keyboard too.

    Love-Hate Relationship

I really wanted to love this laptop. This is my first gaming PC but I didn't purchase it to game specifically. I shoot video and wanted something that could handle editing 6K footage and i checked and researched the specs and this thing on paper killed the Mac M1 pro version so I went ahead with this. I was able to playback and edit my footage but I was unable to export and the computer was running in the 90s+ constantly which made me very concerned. I planned to take it back and get something else but i had to finish a project to meet a deadline and ordered a desktop so i could hurry up and give the product to the client. I took this computer into Geek Squad so many times. The bluetooth magcally dissapeared from the device and after and month and some change, came back on. Then the next month the keyboard started not reading all of the inputs along with the touchpad. I assume this could be potentially from the very high temperatures. Geek Squad was telling me that they have heard a lot of reports from this computer running hot and said that it is most likley from the ryzen 9 chip which is the "beffiest" CPU that could be put into a laptop of this size. I would say, if you plan on doing 6k video editing or very intense gaming where the CPU is running high for over 20 minutes, to steer away and get something with a lighter cpu like Ryzen 7 and a beefier GPU like a 3070 in it. The temperature I feel have caused this computers problems. when it is not hot it runs like a champ and is extremely responsive and quick. It's an absolute love-hate relationship. One recommendation is to edit the power plans for each of the selected power options that are in Armoury Crate and change processing speed to 15% for minimum and 90% for max on silent or performance mode at least to get the temps down moderately and change the plans from aggressive to your liking. Experiment with it. Get something that will elevate it off ta surface like a cooling pad. Other than all that, I still have it so take this as you will.

Laptop is pretty light. I think it’s the fastest 14inch gaming laptop on the market, as well the price is reasonable. Will update my review, if something comes up in the long-term ownership review!

This laptop has the most power you can get in a thin chassis, can handle anything you throw at it, the Ryzen processor is awesome, especially when boost clocks are adjusted, and the RTX 2060 is no slouch either.

    Gaming on the Go

My old laptop couldn't keep up anymore, so I upgraded to this - the ROG Zephyrus G14 14", and I never looked back. As an amateur photographer, it's nice to have photo editing applications work quickly and remain responsive while working on a laptop. As a gamer, it's nice to have performance on par with a desktop when I'm on the go. The battery life is more than adequate, lasting between a couple hours of light gaming, and several more than that for general web browsing, etc. It's light, the cooling is good (But I recommend not putting it on your lap while gaming, it gets pretty warm) My only real complaint is that the keyboard heats up quite a bit after longer gaming sessions. Otherwise, This is perfect.

The laptop is great, as it gets desktop speed on 10 hours battery life and is cheaper than what most other competitive laptops are. However I spent many nights fiddling around with he settings on the laptop as out of the box it only allowed me to get around 6 hours battery life on idle. After installing the newest drivers, uninstalling game first and setting the rtx 2060 to only turn on when I play a game, I was able to get 10ish hours of battery life with mutiple tabs open writing in google docs. Highly recommend for work or play, it can handle both very well.

i got this computer a week ago on feb 16. everything has run very well on this computer. i do indie game development, and run unreal engine 4 with no issue, and no lag, and play my normal games fine with excellent speed. but here lies the problem with my laptop. the audio it self pop and video stutter every so often and all the driver were updated and hard reset but ASUS themselves. Asus, explain to me to exchange or replace it as i may have a faulty laptop, unfortunately. It started happening after i threw the box out and hoping best buy will take it back for an exchange and possibly can get something close to this specs in the store for a decent price.
