Great buy

Great battery life. Haven’t tried any gaming on it yet but will update when I do. It’s lightning quick and the screen is very impressive for the size.

Perfect, but use headphones
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great laptop. Perfect if you want something lightweight to travel with. My only complaints would be that the built-in speakers are very quiet. Plan on using headphones or external audio device.

Excellent hardware, terrible drivers
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since most people are giving this 5 stars, my review will be a bit more grounded for real life work and not just benchmarks. I wanted to love this laptop so much. The design, the hardware for price, weighs 3.6 lbs, and the battery life were all amazing on paper. Unfortunately, due to AMD's terrible Radeon drivers, the laptop will randomly go to a black screen that requires a complete shut off to function again. I can't tell you how much this has interrupted my daily use of this device. I average around 2-3 crashes per day due to this and it's all random. The Nvidia GPU will also randomly spin up so your "10 hour" battery life drops down to 5 hours of real use (Chrome w/ 10+ tabs, Outlook, and maybe discord). I've found a fix for this but unfortunately get a high pitched annoying coil whine as a result. It pains me to say, but I will be returning this device :( These issues aren't uncommon, as many users on reddit are reporting the same thing: https://www.reddit.com/r/ZephyrusG14/comments/g799s8/coil_whine_random_fan_noise_and_black_screens/ https://www.reddit.com/r/ZephyrusG14/comments/g92d9w/bios_update_211_available/ https://www.reddit.com/r/ZephyrusG14/comments/g9pt75/random_crashes_any_help/ https://www.reddit.com/r/ZephyrusG14/comments/gaam34/disabling_integrated_graphics/

Insanely happy about this purchase!!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second gaming laptop and it genuinely surprised me. For it to be as compact as it is and have such an impressive all around quality and performance, it deserves the praise and recognition I’m giving it.

ASUS has done it again
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tomsguide recommended and EVERY OTHER CRITICS website! What a freaking STEAL at this price. Quality premium build, AMD R9 4900hs processor is SMOKING fast. I am an astrophotographer capturing gigabytes of video per shoot, them processing them with a 'stacking' software.. can not BELIEVE how much faster with this 8 core AMD cpu.. Then with this power saving raytracing dsll capable RTX2060 max Q on board pushes this GPU to it's best potential for a fantastic gaming experience. AND switches to the integrated Radeon graphics for less GPU intensive apps turning this into a workstation or multimedia compact laptop woth 10-11 hour battery life. Amazing feat by Asus. I really want to buy two, but only need one. Lol. Highly recommended.

GOOD LAPTOP
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just picked this laptop up last week and I'm absolutely LOVING it. It's extremely quick, has a ton of storage, its screen is bright and beautiful, the build quality feels ultra-premium, the speakers are loud, clear and bassy, and I've been able to run the most recent of today's games flawlessly. I was playing Outriders, a game that was released just today, with all settings set to "Ultra" and it ran completely smooth. I definitely recommend this laptop to anyone who's looking for a great laptop, at a great price, while still feeling like an uber-expensive/premium product. You will not find a better laptop for only $1,200. I would've had no problem paying even $1,500 for this laptop... It's that good.

Excellent performer, great value
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm coming from an old and heavy personal laptop, on its last legs, and a high performing, but insanely bulky/heavy, current work laptop (a 17" ZBook). Size-wise the G14 is light, compact, and has a beautiful 14" display. The Ryzen 9 processor and 2060 Max-Q graphics give this machine desktop-class performance in a very portable format. Use it with a dock, large monitor,... at home, disconnect the dock and slip it into a sleeve for travel. Battery performance is quite good, as others have noted, with a bit of tuning (well documented on the Web). I agree that the backlighting is kind of "mehh", though it's functional for dim light scenarios. All said, I find it an excellent combination of performance and portability.

Nice first laptop.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first gaming laptop. I am using it on a laptop stand, hooked up to a monitor with an external keyboard and mouse. And I am in love with this laptop. Besides one thing. Thermals. I feel like I shouldn't have to turn off cpu boost to not let my system catch on fire. If all 8 cores are running at max frequency, it hits around 90c. I want my laptop to last longer than a year, and it being at 90c when I play games for probably 3-4 hours a day is not helping it last long. With boost off though it caps the cpu to 3ghz and it'll stay under 70c all day, with a drop in performance and some stuttering here and there. Overall, I love it. But I wish I could recommend it.

Great laptop!
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great laptop with good temperatures and performance. I am not enthusiastic about the ports available, as there are only two USB 3.0 ports, but using the USB-C ports has turned out to be doable.

One of the best gaming laptops out right now? Yes.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What you are seeing here with the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 is a breakthrough in new heights for power and performance relative to portability. While it isn't quite the thinnest and sleekest 14-inch laptop you can find on the market, it's going to make up for with it's immense specs for a computer this size - trust me, it's going to make your head spin with denial a few times before you come to eventually accept it. This machine is powered by the (new!) 8-core AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS CPU, an nVidia GeForce RTX 2060 6GB GDDR6 graphics card, a 1TB SSD for storage and 16GB of DDR4 RAM for memory. The graphics card powers a 120Hz display at 1080p resolution. I may have preferred seeing a QHD display at 1440p with the same refresh rate, but this will do and at 14 inches won’t be too much of an issue. Apart from that, believe me… this is one heck of a powerful machine utilizing some of the latest and best processing power from AMD. Unboxing and setup is really something else. Asus took it to a whole new level at presenting you the item in what people keep describing as “opening up a Hallmark card” and nothing else comes close to what reminds you of this experience. I received the Moonlight White model and it looks absolutely brilliant. Powering on the machine for the first time leads you through the usual Windows 10 setup, as well as registering for a MyASUS account. Along the way, you’ll be asked to register a fingerprint on the power button for easy unlocking on-the-go. It also turns out that this fingerprint reader keeps your fingerprint in cache for about 12 seconds, giving it enough time to read your fingerprint from first-boot and unlocking Windows by the time it boots up. Let’s be real though, while it works great now for it being a new machine, operating system boot times tend to slow down over time, and the fingerprint sensor may not have enough time to unlock Windows at boot. That being said, the specs of this machine are quite powerful and if it still holds capable enough, may actually do it’s job for a very long time. There is a preinstalled application used to configure your G14’s performance settings, known as the “Armoury Crate.” You can change the performance modes of the laptop between Windows, Silent, Performance, Turbo, and Manual. This allows you to create custom profiles that let you determine exactly which games and applications should be running, and which should not. It’s a great way to get up and going with an existing preconfigured game setup you don’t manually need to do one by one. Now there’s only one caveat I found about the G14, and that is the lack of a basic webcam. It is something that, while mediocre, should be included in every laptop. It’s kind of difficult to find an external webcam that will work great to plug into a laptop, because webcams aren’t necessarily manufactured to be plugged into a laptop that more than likely already has one, and they are primarily meant to be used on desktop setups… but nevertheless, it makes sense that Asus wants to reduce components they deem unnecessary to a certain class of end-user. Except, gamers usually like streaming their games as well as their faces. Out of the box, they can only do the former unless they plug in an external camera and prop it nicely somehow. Overall, this is an amazingly powerful gaming laptop for what you pay for. It's a sleek design Asus has accomplished quite well and the overall look-and-feel of the machine to be use primarily for gaming can also do pretty much everything else just as great… well… except video conferencing. For what is available on the market right now in Spring 2020, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 is going to be one of the best buys on the market (see what I did there?
