This laptop is fast, built well, and has amazing battery life for the hardware it’s got crammed in there. But that’s the issue: The Ryzen 9 4900HS is a beast of a CPU but crammed into that tiny 14” chassis it gets HOT. While gaming in an ambient temperature of around 76 degrees in my office, the CPU would easily hit 100 degrees C but wouldn’t throttle. It was made to get that hot according to online forums, but my issue was the actual chassis getting so hot, it actually burns to keep your hands on it. This is above the keyboard where the CPU is, but even the palm rests get so hot that it’s just very uncomfortable to use. With the fans on max I was still around 90-95 degrees. I really wanted to love this laptop as tech reviewers praised this laptop for its price and performance. They were correct as it did run very well even at these temps. But none of the reviewers really mentioned how hot the thing got. Side note: the keyboard backlight is not good lol. This laptop is seriously such a great device. It is easily the fastest machine I have ever owned, that AMD CPU and NVIDIA RTX 2060 is absolutely incredible! That being said... this is a laptop. In today's day and age what are the two things that a laptop needs to excel in? First, keyboard. While the typing experience was not bad, actually was quite comfortable, the keys lighting up was awful. I type a lot at night and the keyboard was difficult to see even at full lighting. Second, there is no webcam. I know this laptop was released before the current pandemic situation, but seriously Asus? No webcam? They don't even put webcams on their more expensive Zephyrus Duo line that is like $3,600. Seriously so irritating. I returned it after about a week since I couldn't use it to attend classes or really type with it after night. I ended up with the Razer Stealth 4k. Smaller and more expensive, less impressive internals, but at least it has good keyboard lighting and A WEBCAM. If those things don't matter, you cannot go wrong with this laptop. But for me they were deal breakers. Buy wisely.

The laptop it's so powerful, but the keyboard backlight sometimes fail this deal.

Light keyboard makes it difficult to read day-night time when house lights are on.

Over the 2 years that I've used this machine, I've had an absolute horrid time, with both the quality control of the hardware and the customer service offered by both Best Buy and Asus. The first thing to go wrong was the poor battery life. Literally out of the box this machine had/has issues where the GPU gets triggered for no reason which sucks the (touted to be 10 hrs by asus) battery life down to a measly 2.5 - 4 hrs, which makes it almost useless as a laptop. After that the up arrow key broke off and I was told by both Best Buy and Asus that I'd need to ship the whole laptop (that I've been using as my work computer) back to Asus just to replace a key cap, because it was considered to be self-servicing the laptop and they did want customers possibly damaging the machine further. Because replacing a keycap is more risky than literally shipping the thing across the entire country I guess. Another fault of the machine is that one of the fans has developed a very charming rattly buzz that sounds like a sentient wounded helicopter pleading to be put out of it misery. Its gotten so bad I can hear it on the other side of my house if I've forgotten to turn the thing off, which speaks to how randomly the fans kick on in this thing. Finding replacement parts has proven to be a nightmare and I am severely disappointed by the experience as a whole. I'd like for asus to get their heads out of their asus and develop a time machine, so I can go back and never buy this stupid machine. Seriously, if you are in the market for a laptop, go with a macbook pro or something, not this wannabe monstrosity.

The laptop is perfect. The incredible performance and size of this laptop is the perfect combination. Only thing that I didn’t quite realize is that the outside of the lid is actually white and not silver. The keyboard and trackpad are among the best on a windows machine although the backlighting is not even and dim. However it gets the job done in a low light working environment.

This little machine is one of a kind. it can handle everything I throw at it.
