Unboxing was interesting, to say the least. The laptop came in a thick box, which elevated the laptop when opened. The box itself was high end. The laptop is very solid and feels premium. Although, it isn't very light. The design is very nice. Some observations: Has USB, USB C, HDMI and more than you will need in the ports department. Long battery life- I got 8.1 hrs watching videos, 6hrs gaming. Finger print sensor built into the power switch, Good sound with speakers under the screen, behind the keyboard. Is NOT touchscreen Does not have a builtin camera. Speed is very fast, and defintely responsive with no lag. Excellent graphics. Keyboard is back lighted.but not very bright. Keyboard has an excellent feel and is premium. Power adapter is bigger than most laptops. I am very impressed by the speed, sound, and battery life. I do find myself trying to use the screen as a touchscreen when it is not. I also found that the maximum volume was lower than expected. The look and feel is very premium, and it follows through with the operation and specs. The screen is excellent with a 120 refresh rate. The laptop really is a high spec powerhouse.

If I could leave 0 star I would. Not only is this laptop a bit expensive but the company is extremely horrible. Less than 4 month of having the laptop it left corner paint started to bubble. Called asus they wanted me to pay for shipping and if they couldn’t fix it they will give me a refurbished one. So I Shipped it off to Best Buy geek squad and asus says it’s from an external source which is unreasonable as the laptop is only used for school work and does not leave the house. I will never buy anything from this company again rather put 400 bucks more and get a blade or anything other than this horrible company. If you check Reddit it happened to several ppl and in different parts of the laptop so how is that external. Never again honestly

The laptop looks solidly built, the keyboard is geared towards players (travel distance is 1.7 mm) and can be lit. There are four distinct buttons at the top of the keyboard, two of them for sound level adjustment, one for microphone muting and one to call the special app Armoury Crate which I talk more about later on. There is also a sound mute button within the keyboard itself. I like the position of the power button (above keyboard, no more accidental shut offs for the power buttons located on the side) and the power button also serves as the fingerprint reader. In my experience the fingerprint reader worked flawlessly. The touchpad worked perfectly fine without any adjustments. The quality of the sound through the laptop speakers is superb, very clear, though not very loud (loud enough if you’re alone). Once you put good quality headphones on then the level of loudness increases significantly. Battery life seems to hold up to the manufacturer’s claim, about 10 hours depending on how you use it. My first impression was that the laptop was very fast, launching programs immediately. The boot time was very fast. There are two separate game oriented programs included that help customize and maximize the game experience. One is called GameFirst VI, the other Armoury Crate. GameFirst VI, focused on the connectivity is an integration network app, intended for network optimization. It can help reduce network delay and minimize or reduce the in-game lag. It can analyze your WiFi, Bluetooth and LAN connections. You can select your data streaming preferences, for example game first or live streaming first or multimedia first. You can also allow the app the manage it for you with their setup called Adaptive intelligence. You can also use the geolocation service which shows you to which servers on the globe you’re connected and how connections are performing. All done in the name of making sure your online game performs smoothly over the internet. The Armoury Crate focuses on the hardware performance and customization. Many tools that you could access though the Windows task manager or Windows settings are located here and set up in a much easier way to access and manipulate than if you would use the traditional Windows tools. For example you can select one of the performance profiles there, with two available presets (Silent and Performance) plus two more called Turbo and Manual (these for some reasons were shown as disabled on my laptop). They adjust GPU and CPU performance, cooling and energy use (say you’re not connected to power, playing only on a battery). You can also select which ongoing processes will be stopped while you’re playing to limit their impact on the laptop memory and GPU. Under a different section you can set up your hardware profile (Windows key off or on, Touchpad enabled or disabled, cooling fan levels). You can also select specific apps and add them to the profile. There is also a section called Game Library that allows you to add all your games (either scanned by the app and added manually). Regarding the visual performance, while this is a gaming laptop, the max screen resolution is 1920 by 1080 and the video card I GeForce GTX 1650 with 4 GB, so there are much more robust gaming laptops out there, for considerably more money. Having said that, based on my experience so far, I did not observe any lag while playing (again set to 1920 by 1080 as per screen max resolution). In my perspective the resolution of 1920 by 1080 is perfectly fine on a 14 inch monitor). If you select the performance profile while gaming you can get the fans on and you could hear them. Otherwise they are mostly quiet. Overall I am both happy with the laptop and also impressed by its performance. ASUS also offers better equipped versions of the same laptop (more RAM, disc space and the video card with higher specs) but that comes to the question of how much of a dedicated budget you willing to dedicate. For me and my needs this laptop exceeds my current needs and expectations. It is light, fast, offers very long battery life, provides customization options for the gaming experience, plays my games well and seems solidly built. A solid choice in my book. Recommended.

Starting w construction: The case is sturdy, feels well made, and aesthetically pleasing, and a highly functional design. The 14” screen size hits a (IMHO) sweet spot that makes it ideally suited to being a highly transportable “Gaming” and general purpose computer. The 14’ design keeps the weight and size just about ideal. When you open the case and move the screen to your desired viewing angle, the keyboard begins to slant and the degree of slant is controllable. This is much better than a keyboard that lays flat or is slightly angled because the case was made not to be flat. You may open the case to a 90 degree angle and have the keyboard lay basically flat, or open the case screen beyond 90 degrees to achieve your ideal keyboard angle relative to the screen (NICE design feature). The keyboard is backlit, and the keys highly visible when looking straight down on them; however, as your angle relative to viewing the keys deviates from from vertical, the backlighting degrades rapidly and is wanting. The keyboard has a fingerprint sensor/power on/off button. After a minute of training the sensor it becomes functional and has been a pleasure to use instead of entering a PIN or Password. Cursor control via the built-in touch pad is truly superb. Every touchpad I have ever used requires a minor degree of pressure to achieve a “CLICK” and hence execute a touch (like a mouse click). This touchpad only requires lifting your finger and then an extremely gentle touch with a finger to complete the click (of course you may push hard to an achieve an audible and tactile CLICK, but that is not necessary. This was a first for me and I have come to like this feature very much. There are many functional hot keys that facilitate chores. One example would be the key labeled PrtSC. There are several others. The keyboard space bar is uniquely shaped to instantly help orient your hands for key entry (another nice touch). The screen display excellent with vibrant colors and zero bleeding or blurred edges during game play. The twin speakers at each end of the keyboard produce excellent sound for their size. The case has plenty of USB 3 ports, and an HTML port, microphone port, etc. The case also has Many air exchange slots to eliminate any possibility of overheating. As for performance, the AMD Ryzen 7 - 4800H does not lack for Central Processing Unit (CPU) power. Based on my experience with notebook computers that have Intel i5 and even i7 CPUs clocked out to 3.0ghz, this AMD CPU holds it’s own and does the job more than adequately. The speed with which this computer boots up and is ready to rock is impressive, and attributable to its storage being an 500 Gig Solid State Drive (SSD) rather than a conventional spinning platter HD (Hard drive). Regardless of how fast the CPU, or how much Random Acess Memory (RAM), the long pole in the tent is input/output to the mass storage HD. This computer was built with a very capable and fast SSD. As computer programs gain in sophistication and complexity, they demand more and more memory to minimize time spent going to mass storage SSD. This computer has adequate RAM at 8 GB, but I believe it should come with 16 GB. That amount of RAM will become the minimum for serious gaming in the near future. Other niceties: This computer comes with an app called ARMOURY CRATE. The app does many things such as providing easy peezy control of computer processes. At a glance one can view and control which processes should be stopped when gaming to enhance game performance, free up extra memory. Among many controls ARMOURY CRATE provides are GAME VISUAL refinements. For example, you can set the display for RACING to enhance fast paced games, or set the display to SCENARY for vibrant hues and contrasts/brightness. There is a setting for FPS to enhance visibility in dark scenes. All in all, there are 8 choices to select from to enhance gaming enjoyment. As for negatives, the only glaring missing feature in this price range is the lack of a camera. I understand that a camera is probably not a frequently used function in a GAMING computer, but this computer would be a superb GAMING and general purpose machine that could successfully compete with more expensive computers without giving up any ground in all highly desirable capabilities. These days (COVID 19 hunkering down), ZOOMING has become amazingly popular (as well as FACETIME chats, etc.), and a camera is pretty much to be expected. That being said, I am now an avid fan of ASUS computers with the newest RYZEN CPUs, and believe most folks that look at this particular computer (The ROG Zephyrus G14) will agree that it is not only exceptionally capable, but a true feature packed value.

In the specifications it states having a front facing camera. It does NOT have one. This was a requirement for the purchase. When we went to exchange it we experienced the worst customer service. That was the biggest disappointment because the customer service and their tech knowledge is why we went to Best Buy. Never again!
