Gaming Laptops are finally getting good
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For years I have felt gaming laptops have been missing the mark. Most notably in they were way to thin for the heat they generated. This was mostly an issue with GPU's and CPU's were furnaces. However, these new-gen AMD Ryzen CPU's do so well in laptops, it's incredible. On top of that, the GTX 1650 is not powerful enough to create the type of heat that causes problems, yet still run most games at very playable FPS. This is because the GTX 1650 is 52% faster than the outgoing GTX 1050. This GPU puts out enough horsepower while still keeping the heat down, something that wasn't possible not long ago. Let's not forget the fact this laptop comes with a 512 gb SSD. That is a HUGE feature. No gaming laptop these days should be sold without an SSD. The build quality of this laptop is pretty awesome. The form factor is small and compact which is incredible considering the great thermal performance. The perforated lid is a cool look that you don't ever see. If you want a small, affordable, respectful gaming performance, well-built laptop, there should be no hesitation. Buy it, it's easily one of the best if not the best laptop at this price point. Make your checklist of features you want in a gaming laptop, and check this one out. It probably checks most of them off.

Worse than my Surface Pro 3!!!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's crazy how this laptop is bad. I have been using it with extreme care, never dropped it or caused any damage to it. At first it seemed like a good upgrade but there are some things that I really can't wrap my head around: -Overheating with a CPU and GPU usage of under 10% -Programs inefficiency and even not working on. (Slower than a Core I3 7th Gen chip on a surface pro 3) -Can't believe that someone can spend this amount of money on this type of hardware -Basic programs such as zoom lag, inability to share screen. -Frequent turn off and blackout screens. I don't believe I will ever buy anything else from Asus ever.

The device inbetween a desktop and laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This ROG Zephyr laptop has been fairly impressive to me coming from my Asus ultrabook I was using before. I'm sure I will continue to use my ultrabook under certain circumstances but performance wise this blows it out of the water thanks to the new Ryzen 4000 series processor it has. Mine came with the Ryzen 4800H specifically as well as a GTX 1650 for when you load up more graphic intensive applications or if you use Adobe for rendering (using the GPU to help render has shown a great increase in performance). The only thing I feel is a little lacking is the 8gb of ram. At the time of writing this I have not taken the bottom cover of the chassis off to see but knowing Asus im sure this can be upgraded easily. Asus has been a go-to brand for me from anything from Motherboards and graphics cards on my desktop PC builds but also their laptop lineup. This is my 4th Asus laptop and I find that their build quality and hardware quality is some of the best. Performance wise all around this has been an impressive machine. The Ryzen 4800H processor scored nearly 4000 points in Cinebench R20 in multi-threaded mode and 500 points in single threaded mode. This was done without jacking all the fans up to 100% or any extra configuration than how it came out of the box. These numbers are better than quite a few desktop processors even. The Ryzen 4000 series has made AMD completely relevant in the laptop arena again where as they had been lagging behind for so long prior. Battery life on this system has been tremendously impressive. Again I think this has a lot to do with the efficiency of the Ryzen 4000 series processor on the AMD/TSMC 7nm node. For a CPU with 8 cores and 16 threads I was blown away that it just seems to absolutely trickle the battery down. I think the most I have gotten out of a mixed use case is about 8 hours (not necessarily gaming, but productivity and streaming). The I/O on this laptop is pretty complete and was a breath of fresh air versus the dongle life that I live with my ultrabook. It has a HDMI out, two USB3.0 type-A, and two USB-C ports one of which is also compatible with displayport 1.4 and charging. The included charger uses a standard a/c adapter and plug into the computer but good to know there is flexibility. On the model I got I think the screen is a bit disappointing. It is only 1080P and 60hz, but does offer windows HDR support for streaming at least. Overall its fairly underwhelming although depending on the games you are playing these days the gtx 1650 isnt necessarily going to run everything at 120+ FPS. If you are into something like CS:GO you'll want to get the model with the higher refresh rate. Many games still look and play fantastic however, so while I wish it was at least a 1080P @ 120hz panel its not the worst display ive seen on a laptop. The brightness is good and it has a matte finish to help with glare. The last thing I will mention is the sound. This laptop actually has the best sounding speakers I have ever heard on a laptop. They actually get loud and the sound distortion isnt bad. I wasn't really expecting this but now that I have actually used the speakers a few times it can be nice to listen to music and have it sound decent without wearing your headset. Overall even though it could benefit from a bit more ram and a higher refresh rate display this is a great laptop that I look forward to using for many years to come. I will most likely still use my ultrabook for travel due to its size and weight advantage this will replace it for just about everything else at this point.

Gaming On The Go
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Another winner from ASUS. The ROG Zephyrus G14 is a compact and very sturdy laptop well suited for gaming on the go. No problems were encountered while playing Sims, Planet Zoo and Planet Coaster nor were there when utilizing it for the usual mundane computing tasks. Graphics are fantastic, as should be expected with the GeForce GTX 1650 though performance would be even better with another 8G of RAM. This thing does get hot, a cooling tray is a must for extended use. With 2 USB-C, 2 USB-A ports and an HDMI port this laptop provides ample connectivity for peripheral devices. Overall, this is a nice laptop.

Solid Performing Gaming Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 14" Laptop with the AMD Ryzen 7 processor, 8GB Memory, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 and 512GB SSD is a very solid performing gaming laptop. Most people will be very happy with its features and capabilities. However with many laptops, there are trade-offs which should be considered. Out of the box, the chassis is stylish as you would expect from ASUS. The laptop is only 0.7 inches thick and a modest 3.64 pounds making transport very easy. It comes with Windows 10 and with the SSD drive included, startup is fast. It runs Windows 10 so everyone will be familiar with that. The keyboard is backlit and the keys are logically arranged for good gaming controls. But you first buy a gaming laptop for how the GPU performs. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 performed adequately here. I was able to run games at 60 fps at 1080p Full HD with no problems. Even though I was using an HDMI montior with 1 ms input lag, realistically the max here is 16.67 ms which is still great for gaming. The games look amazing. Also NVIDIA has built in programs to help you capture your most epic gameplay successes and fails and an interface to put them on YouTube for all to see. This is a nice touch. Along with graphics, the monitor is good. The built in screen has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 Full HD. The images colors and definition were great. My biggest holdup here was the 14 inch screen size. This is a gaming laptop so it is made to be portable. I just would have liked the screen a big bigger for more graphic intensive games. This was easily remedied by connecting a 27' monitor, but that won't always be an option. One thing that can start to affect the performance is cooling of the laptop. I did notice that the laptop got a bit warmer than I would have liked. It is by no means burning up but it will run a little warm. This seems be a little bit of a trade-off with the thickness of the units. With a thinner laptop, cooling is a bit harder with everything close together. It is not bad, but could have been a little bit better. Battery life on the laptop is listed at 10 hours. I found the laptop didn't quite get there. I got roughly 8 hours but this may have been based on what I playing. More demands on the system may be why I saw this. In any case, this life was fine for the battery. Most times I have it plugged up anyway so I don't think this will be an issue for most. As far as the rest, the AMD Ryzen 7 worked fine. I had no complaints with the performance of this processor. Everything was smooth and I had no complaints there. In the end though, I gave this laptop 4 stars instead of 5. If I solely based it on what it had, I probably would have given it 5 stars. However, there were just too many trade-offs of things that were left out for me to do that. The most notable of these omission was there is no Ethernet port on this laptop. This can be remedied with a USB to Ethernet adapter, using wireless internet, or by tethering (which if you are portable you may need to do), but I wish it would have been added as an option. And tethering will likely add lag which is not good in gaming. The other complaint I have is that there are only two USB ports. I assume many people will add a mouse which takes up on port. If you add a keyboard, headset, and Ethernet adapter, you will be out of luck. Of course an option is to run a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse configuration or get a USB hub. In any case, you will likely have some extra chances to make to run things the way you want them. In the end, the ASUS - ROG Zephyrus G14 gaming laptop is a really solid gaming laptop. It performs well and looks amazing. I wish it had just a little bit more. But I still would recommend this laptop to others. They will definitely enjoy it.

Small, well built, entry level gaming laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 seems small compared to other gaming laptops but they manage to pack a lot of performance in a small package. Being a 14 inch laptop it is only 12.8 inches x 8.7 inches and only 0.7 inches thick. The screen resolution is 1920 x 1080. Having that resolution in a 14 inch screen makes for a very crisp and clear display. This model has the 60hz version of the screen. Although it's 60hz I didn't notice any screen tearing while gaming. When you open the laptop, the screen hinges down below the level of the keyboard causing the laptop to tilt up slightly. This makes the keyboard easier to type on and it also elevates the body of the laptop so it can move air through the vents on the bottom. While gaming, the laptop's fans turn on but they are not the normal high pitched laptop fans. These have more of a softer sound that you don't notice much while gaming. Most of the heat seems to exhaust out the vent that is in the hinge area of the laptop. The body of the laptop feels very solid. The screen is backed with metal and the body of the laptop is plastic but doesn't feel flimsy. This model doesn't have the white LED matrix ( ASUS AniMe Matrix ) on the back of the screen like the other models of the G14 do. There is a HDMI port, headphone jack, 2 USB 3.2 ports and 2 USB-C ports. One of the USB-C ports can be used as a DisplayPort for an external monitor. The power button is also a fingerprint reader. The reliability of the fingerprint reader was hit or miss for me. It seems to require your finger to be at the exact position and angle each time you try to unlock the laptop. It wasn't as easy to use as say an iPhone or other laptop fingerprint readers I've used. The keyboard is backlit with 3 levels of brightness. The space bar is enlarged on the left side so for right handed gamer's using WASD for navigation it makes it easy for your thumb to press the spacebar. The W key had a small bump on it so you can find your position on the keyboard. Overall the keyboard felt nice, and worked well while gaming. The trackpad works well and is multi-touch enabled. It’s very responsive. Navigating windows is easy and it has very short click down distance so you don’t have to fight with it. Gaming performance was decent. This is the entry level model of the G14 with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 GPU and AMD Ryzen 7 4800HS CPU. It achieved a score of 3750 in 3DMark Time Spy and 26145 in 3DMark Sky Diver benchmarks. Apex Legends was playable with the Medium texture settings. One item that I'm surprised they didn't include is a built in webcam. With the popularity of streaming you would think ASUS would include one. Overall its a well built laptop of daily use and small enough that is easy to carry with you. Gaming performance is good for a laptop but if you want to run games with all the graphics setting on high I would look at the higher end models of the G14.

All around great laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was able to get this laptop for $799.00. They had a "flash sale" and I barely made it to the store before it officially ended, which was only a day maybe less. As far the laptop itself... I have only "complaint"... 1.) the RAM they provided with it. but I slapped on another 8GB of Ram and so far it's running smooth. Other than that I think this laptop is great for it's price point, even when not on sale. Great build quality, good trackpad and keyboard, solid battery life and it performs great!! The AMD ryzen 7 + gtx 1650 + 16gb of RAM lets me play almost anything I've thrown at it with no lag and more than adequate frame rate. Is it the best one out there of course not. I think the 1660 ti version would blow my laptop out of the water. But I did get this at a great price and i've had no issues what so ever!! If you can afford it and a serious gamer....get the higher end specs.... if not and you're on a strict budget then get this and add another 8gb of RAM when you're able to. This will be a great travel laptop and I can't wait to start taking this on a plane. =)

Nice machine.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great product. I’ll start with the things I don’t like to get those out of the way. 1. No webcam, but this isn’t too big a deal for me right now even though I plan to use it for work. I have an external webcam for when I need to absolutely make video calls. 2. The fans do spin up and are constantly running. There are ways to minimize this if you search online but I don’t plan on doing that in the near future. As for the things I do like: 1. Very fast and zippy performance in a small package. This is replacing my Dell 7577 and this is way faster and way smaller. 2. Nice to have the option to charge via USB-C. 3. Nice design. 4. Nice speakers. Not quite MacBook level but close. Especially considering it’s a gaming laptop. 5. The battery life is great, also considering that it’s a gaming laptop.

Sleek looking and great performer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 has a lightweight, compact design and only weighs 3.5 lbs - WOW! Has an aluminum top with a cool design and LED lights. The 14" display is small but it has a crisp, clean picture and great graphics. If you need a larger screen for gaming, simply use the HDMI port and hook to a monitor or TV. I was surprised that this did not have a touch screen, however it didn't claim to. Also no webcam which seems so standard on laptops however, I have no need for one. Long battery life - still had 64% life after being unplugged for several days. Quick, full charge in only a couple hours. The processor seems quick and it easily downloads games on battery or cord. It's also ready/capable of Virtual Reality gaming - which i was! Smooth keys but I did find the arrow keys a little small and close together, especially if trying to steer a car in a race game. Unbelievable sound with the Dolby Atmos speakers especially out of such a small, compact laptop. Overall I am thrilled with the product. No need to spend $1500-1800 for a gaming laptop - this one does it all for less!

Great little laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are several reviews of the Asus Zephyrus 14” laptop when used for gaming that are thorough and accurate and there’s not much I can add to them. But I did want to say what a great little laptop this is. The packaging was excellent and every precaution was taken to prevent scratches or marring of the exterior or interior. I had a little trouble setting it up, but that is only because Windows 10 and I don’t get along. The keys are well spaced and I like that it has up and down keys to make it easy to scroll without using the touch pad. It’s just the right size and weight for carrying. The display, response time and battery life are all excellent. At 512 gigabytes it has all the storage capacity I’ll ever need. There is really nothing negative I can say about it. I normally use a desktop PC and this is the first laptop I’ve used for awhile. I’m very impressed with it. The only problem I have is when using the left click on the touchpad. It is super sensitive. Hovering over it while deciding whether or not to click is enough to have it make the selection. But that is very minor and may be unique to my touch.

Big power in a small package
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have to say I was a little skeptical of a 14 in gaming laptop however not any more. This is a great system with enough power to run all the applications and games I need. Set up was a breeze with the usual exception of Microsoft’s infinite updates. Mine did require a system update but that came off with out any issues. The only drawback I’ve found is at time the monitor can be a little small for some games. That being said you can just connect to a gaming monitor and problem solved. Other than that it’s a great laptop if you need a small footprint gaming PC
