Apart from that process being a bit of a pain, the new unit also has the same issues. After a couple of weeks of working it will start having major issues of not delivering an internet connection to all connected devices even though the internet coming in to the router is in working order. The router must be reset to factor settings to be fixed. Once it locked me out for no reason and made me reset it as well.

We do understand your disappointment with the product and the inconvenience this may have caused if you are experiencing connection problems. To resolve the unstable connection, please check if the router’s security settings matches with your ISP’s modem credentials, verify if the PC or device connecting to the router is working properly and within range to the router, the router is within 30 feet to the ISP's modem, if not wired with a network cable, and ISP's internet service or connection is working properly or stable. Legacy devices may not work properly with WIFI-6, please check updates for these devices. Also, try connecting this manually to either 2.4GHz or 5GHz. Also, we recommend updating the Mesh router firmware if it is running with an older version. Firmware is available for download at: https://www.asus.com/us/networking-iot-servers/wifi-routers/asus-wifi-routers/rt-ax58u/helpdesk_bios?model2Name=RT-AX58U .

When very near the router I could achieve great speed, but it quickly degraded as I moved away from the router. I ended up exchanging it for an RT-AC3100 and the speed is consistently 2X faster. It could be because the RT-AC3100 is a 4x4 AC router but the AX3000 is only 2x2. I decided it wasn't worth the speed loss to have WiFi 6. I still gave it 3-stars because it is a very capable router with a LOT of power-user features. It did perform well, just not up to my expectations for the price point.

We use two ASUS routers for an AI Mesh system in our home, and this one drops off the system occasionally requiring a reboot.
