WiFi range is very poor

Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced my ASUS RT-AC66U that I had for several years with this unit after the wifi finally quit working. I would expect this model to have the same wifi footprint or better and the old AC66U covered my entire yard. I can't even use this new router on my back patio. It show's I have a good signal on my phone but it's super slow and sometimes things just won't load. I've even tried turning off all of the fancy settings and just using straight 2.4 Ghz wifi with no improvement. I have been a fan and used ASUS at home and work for several years and this unit seems to be a flop. I do not recommend this router.

Best Buy Return Policy of 15 days is a problem.

Attempted to return and upgrade but best buy gives only 15 days to return. I hate to say it, but I prob wont buy electronics from best buy because of return policy.

It's an ok wi-fi router

Not a good buy.

I reconnected my old router no problem with the internet on that one. I boxed this one back up & took It back to Best Buy. So I not recommend this particular router. I went with a new TP-Link AX1500 instead, easy set up & works great.

Good Router but ASUS Customer Support is BAD

After two months it started to fail. So far I am two calls into their technical support with NO resolution, just a run-around. I have logs from the router to prove it is failing. I guess this is a reason to step up for the extended warranty from the Geek Squad. Live and learn. Don't trust ASUS to stand behind its products.

Terrible equipment, stay away from it!!

I have 3 days using it and Wireless connection is very intermittent. I can't get a stable Wi-Fi connection. The WAN LED keeps changing from White (good) to Red (No internet, supposedly). But it happens that I have wired devices (Ring Alarm, Laptop and Apple TV) connected to the LAN ports of this router and those devices never loose connection, while my Wi-Fi devices hesitate to connect. Tried with many Wi-Fi devices, on both 2.4Ghx and 5Ghz channels, AC or AX technologies, and results are the same for all: Internet connection is very intermittent. When a wireless devices is trying and trying to connect, I see the LED light in red color. Then, when I see it changes to white, I hit refresh and the connection is good at that time, but the wired devices never loose a single packet. Performed firmware upgrade and results are the same. Tried contacting ASUS Support Chat and based on my serial, the bot redirects me to GeekSquad support. After a 3o minutes wait, the GeekSquad agent concluded in 2 minutes that the device was defective (based only on the input I gave) and suggesting returning this device and getting a new one. Going to BestBuy tomorrow to return it.

Works good

It performed well for a few weeks and completely failed. I have retuned two of these and will not buy another one. This router is completely unreliable and I do not recommend it.

Wasn’t good for me!

Kept dropping connection--Didn't work for me.

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Perhaps I did something wrong but I followed the instructions, I checked network traffic and changed the channel to the least used channel and it still dropped every couple of minutes. Its almost like the signals kept getting stronger and weaker like in a wave effect...even on devices within 20 feet without obstacles of any kind. I don't have AX adapters but it is supposed to still work, just not as fast. I returned it to Best Buy and got a Linksys MR9000, and so far it has not dropped once on anything. I saw another reviewer that experienced something similar. Perhaps we just got a bad one. Others seem to have good luck and my last router was an upper end Asus but I will stick with the Linksys for sure.

Not working

Fell apart

I am gentle with my electronics and live in a child and pet free home. The thing was literally just sitting on the table and the antenna broke off after I touched it. Best buy would not replace it, and after calling Asus they said that they were going to charge me to fix it. It's pretty crazy that a manufacturer and retailer can sell a product that falls apart after less than 3 months and then tell you to take a hike when you ask for a replacement.

Even after factory resets and trying different SSD drives the problem still persists. It will pop up on the TV but when I try to access it it fails and disappears. Should have heeded the bad reviews. I have a 10 year old Asus that doesn't give me this issue. It is old and I figured I'd "upgrade". Big mistake on my part. So now I have a router that doesn't fit my needs sitting in a box. Very disappointed in myself people heed the warning but a different model!!!

For mesh don't waste your money

This router has direct line of sight to the main Asus router with zero walls between. All of my other routers are Asus tri-band and have no issues. I would not suggest anybody purchase this one for mesh purposes. Now I know this is just a dual band but still should not be a problem.

Disappointed

I was impressed when I first set up the device, however, I had to re-set up the router more than three different times between February to May. It finally quit working......of course I cannot return it because I am beyond the return "window". It did not meet my needs and it was not user friendly.

Hard to set up. Not reliable.

It had a problem with finding the DHCP for my cable provider. When it workedotwasfine. After about 5 days we had a power outage and it couldn't get the internet again. I finally returned it.
