Wifi 6, 160 MHz, QoS, & AiMesh for under $200
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just like Dong says... "This little Wi-Fi machine delivers a lot more than its compact design suggests. It has a ton of useful features and the support for the venerable 160 MHz channel bandwidth. Featuring Asus's AiMesh, you can use a couple of hardware units as (part of) a versatile Wi-Fi mesh system."

Added for Asus Mesh system
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use this router in a mesh system for my 1+gb fiber optic internet. While it is not my main router, it is perfect for the back of the house where I can plug in my tv into the ethernet and also use my cordless devices on a 5ghz connection.

So far, so good!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It was a massive upgrade from my old Archer A7. Far more responsive, and client-side VPN support is nice. Can confirm it works with NordVPN.

Decent Wi-Fi, but Too Many Disappointments
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this router to replace a Linksys model that failed after just 2-3 years of service. I settled on this model based on how pleased others I knew were with their ASUS routers, and after reading detailed, professional online reviews extolling its range, throughput and "future-proof" Wireless AX technology. Unfortunately, the ASUS RT-AX58U was a disappointment almost from the start. I just replaced it with a NETGEAR Nighthawk R7000P-100NAS. What you are about to read are the reason I replaced it just six months after purchasing it. My first indication that it was not going to work out as well as expected came when my wireless network performance felt sluggish. Multiple bandwidth tests indicated that it was delivering less than 20Mb/sec on the 2.4GHz band. Performance was much better on the 5GHz band, but that band has a much shorter range limit than does the 2.4GHz band. For me, that meant I could really only get good speed out of my router when I was in the same room with it. Any further away, and performance was lackluster, far less than the blistering throughput rates reported by the online reviewers. That by itself would not have prompted me to replace the router, because while I wasn't getting stellar performance, it was good enough for my purposes. The next unwanted discovery was that many of my clients' devices (I'm an IT consultant who often services equipment from my home office) could not detect my router's wireless networks. I spent hours searching for answers online, and found that if I turned off ALL the "future-proof" Wireless AX features, I could make the router visible to all but 3 wi-fi adapters. Unfortunately, these were three very commonly deployed wi-fi adapters, so the problem just kept cropping up with middle-aged laptops. (Interestingly, none of our own devices, including a Roku, an Amazon Fire Stick, a tablet and our phones, had a problem with the router.) I finally called ASUS for assistance, and they were about as helpful as the online information that I had found. The ASUS tech told me he would escalate my case and I would receive a call from the next tier of support. That was about four months ago; I think it's safe to say that ASUS doesn't know how to fix the problem, either. Still, I didn't have to deal with this problem frequently, and I had ways to work around it. What finally made this router impossible to live with was that my daughter developed an obsession with YouTube over the summer. She was watching YouTube throughout the day and night, when she was supposed to be doing other things (my daughter does NOT multitask) and I even caught her at it when she was supposed to be in Zoom classes. So, I activated the AiProtection settings on the router and attempted to enforce some time limits -- which did not work properly. The router blocked her computer when it wasn't supposed to, and blocked devices that weren't supposed to be subject to time limitations. With some more research, I discovered the problem: ASUS curiously removed a setting needed to make time limits work, and none of the work-arounds I found for this had any effect. In addition, the site/service blocking controls aren't granular. The situation became untenable, so I replaced my ASUS router with a NETGEAR Nighthawk R7000P-100NAS, which offers Circle parental controls (AND, welcome surprise, does a better job of delivering on its performance claims than that ASUS RT-AX58U ever has). I'm giving this router 2 stars because if your wireless equipment works with it, then it does, at least, deliver decent performance on the 5GHz band. But I can't recommend it due to its failure to deliver on its feature set and due to very poor quality tech support.

Excellent router
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice wifi 6 router. I have a slow dsl service and have had problems previously with my old router dropping connections. The way this router handles data I haven't had any dropped connections. So, for the price I paid I am very happy with this ASUS - RT-AX58U router.

No more dropped WiFi
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Previously, I was using a $30 router which would drop signals every day if more than 3 devices were connected. I have not faced much problem with this and the times we faced problems we were not sure if that was the router or Verizon. $170 well spent.

Mostly reliable
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Mostly reliable router. I've had a small issue where my Homepods stopped working because of a bad router firmware update. But they fixed the issue later. Also as of 2022 there are better spec Asus routers for a little more money.
