This device was average at best. The speed and signal strength varied throughout the day. The connect was not overly reliable and dropped randomly. The design was unique, but overall the performance was inconsistent at best.

      Dear Buckeye,

We are terribly sorry for the issues you've had with the device and for the inconvenience this has caused you. ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and final inspections for both hardware and software before we send them out to the stores worldwide. ASUS provides a warranty for the unit in order to fix or repair any isolated factory escape defect. This information will be passed on to our development team. We would be very happy to assist you. We are recommending completing a hard reset on the router.

      1. Turn the router power off.
      2. Press and hold the "WPS" button and turn the router on.
      3. Power light is on (keep holding the WPS button).
      4. Power light starts flashing for about 5 seconds.
      5. Keep holding until the power light stops flashing and the router will automatically reboot.

On my second router now after the first one displayed the problem. Only use firmware 384 previous to AI mesh 2.0 upgrade. All firmware 386 seems to have random connection restarts. Asus technical support said the first one had bad hardware. But after discovering the OEM firmware works just fine but after upgrading to 386 firmware which is the next step in the firmware chain I've discovered it is just crap firmware.

I bought the router thinking that it presented to excellent value, but within 2 hours after I installed the router it completely dropped the signal. I did a speed test and was getting 1 to 2mbps!!! I refreshed my network including the router, my speeds were restored to 325mbps, and within an hour it completely dropped the signal again. I took it back and will never buy an Asus router again.

I have had nothing but issues with this router. It continues to lose internet connectivity on the 2.4 band and all my device on that band fail to connect to the internet. It happens at random times and then magically starts working again. The 5ghz band loses connection too but just not as often. Unfortunately it’s too late to return it so maybe I can contact ASUS for a warranty repair or something. But in the mean time I need to get some other brand that is more stable

Overall a pretty disappointing router. The app for the router is excellent, and the router looks great. Unfortunately, the functionality of the router is poor. Asus for the win!

I have had this router as part of my setup for almost 2-3 years now and so far it has been a mostly positive experience. This was an upgrade from a Google Wifi Nest that worked fine but AC has been getting a little old. I change routers every 5-7 years because changes in Internet speeds by a provider usually change around then too. Google Wifi also doesn't let you change a whole lot other than super basic settings which is fine for a 'set it and forget it' setup but I wanted a more tailored network. The GUI is great and mostly easy to navigate around in. I used to have 2 separate networks but recently I changed it to just one SSID name combining both bands (Google Wifi got me so used to it I guess) and tweaked the band steering rule to give me 25% more of the 5G band over the 2G band just to take advantage of the 4x4 5G vs the 2x2 2G antennae. Basically even though it combines both networks, most of the time it will give me the faster WiFi now. For the longest time I avoided the app but once I downloaded it I saw what changed I could make vs GUI. Definitely more options are gonna be thru your GUI log in, but app has nice look and overlay and I enjoy changing the themes. I use the OLED one just save battery on my Samsung phone. I have about 26 devices, with 5 of them being wired. Guest Network is easy to setup and you can even put a timer of how long they can stay on your WiFi. Gaming features are nice for those like to play COD. Even for mobile gaming around the house, you can turn it on/off to reduce latency and ping. I would say this router is best for lite gamers to amateurs. Nothing hardcore but for most of us not playing 24/7 it's a nice feature. As far as security, I am currently trying their AiProtection which does scan every website you visit, check your LAN connections, detects intruders etc. Some people will say that is the opposite of security but the device itself would never be able to scan and update itself, so a third-party aka off-device network has to look at all the websites you visit. This is turned off by default, I am simply trying this feature out and I actually don't see a difference in speeds. I have been tightening my Online security lately, this is simply another tool that can be used to layer up your security measures. I also use Google VPN until they discontinue it in June, so theoretically my Internet traffic is still masked? Anyway, there are other security features/measures you can employ on this router, that is just one I consider a key feature. Range is a little questionable as the marketing says it has far range but not in my case, 2 story townhome. I added an Asus RP-AX58 WiFi extender (part of their AiMesh system) which has surprisingly worked out great as I try to always avoid WiFi extenders but I think the fact they are both AX makes a huge difference. With just the router, WiFi was nonexistent in front driveway and laggy in porch with sliding glass doors. The RP extends the range and main router offloads some of the "slower" devices to it, such as smart home items/cameras. As for the RGB lights, nice bonus but half the time I just end up turning them off because it is in the living room and distracts when trying to watch a movie. I wish I could schedule the RGB lights to come on during the day and turn off at night. This setup is perfect for me right now for my townhome setting.

I would recommend this to a friend
