Customers consistently note the strong performance and spacious SSD as major positives, frequently praising the large screen size and capable graphics card for gaming. However, some users point to issues with fan noise and the touchpad's responsiveness. The lack of a CD drive and the 60Hz refresh rate were also cited as drawbacks by a few customers.

I wasn't really looking into buying this one for gaming but for the budget price for the SSD and specs. This laptop prompts you for a Windows code within 5 seconds of being turned on - amazing! Adobe and other bulky apps and navigator tabs all open at once - no problems bouncing around.

AMAZING FOR $999

First off, this is the best deal I could find for a 17.3" Laptop. I spent hours and hours looking and this on a sale was the best deal I could fine for a gaming laptop.
I ran Fallout 76 on Ultra and got about 50-60 FPS for serval hours.
Its not 144HZ but to really get good quality on 144HZ you need to run games at 144 FPS and 60HZ is not bad at all.
It is not a 6GB 1060 but at a $999 price point you normally get a 1050 or 1050TI which this blows out of the water.
I highly recommend and I didn't really have heating issue either. I am also using a cooling pad though.

Mid Grade Laptop

This laptop can run the majority of games at high setting with some FXAA shaders and anti alias up to x16. The screen itself provides great clarity, this is a must for games that render in the background with environments moving like the wind impacting that grass in tombraider.
I recomment this laptop to last 2 to 4 years for serious gamers.
CONS: This is strictly for gaming....streaming is a pain because you run into a RAM bottle kneck. If you plan o streaming, get more RAM 32GB or 64GB. 16GB is strictly for high/ultra resolution gaming.
This laptop runs hot, I highly recommend a laptop cooling pad that has atleast 2 to 4 fans that blow cool air into the laptop as the processor and gpu can heat up to 90+ degrees. I bought the $20 cooling pad and it was well worth it

I'm a ASUS PC gaming laptop fan. Their products build to last. I still have my 17" laptop that I bought many years ago. Anyway, the build is good for his FX705GM - I actually enjoy "touching" the laptop! If you looking for a budget gaming laptop. This one is for you. You can read the rest of the specs yourself. :-)

I wanted this laptop to work so bad, but after I set it up ran SLOWER than my wife s HP i5-8250u which is blazing fast. Had geek squad remotely look at it and had it going faster then started running slow again. Sent it back. (But hated to do it} has everything I wanted in a laptop thou. Went to Best Buy and got the HP I7-by1033dx and it has the i5-8265u and runs faster than the Asus ! ( But it shouldn't). For $475.00 its worth it over $999.

Unable to use or change basic functions upon boot

My biggest gripe is the inability to verify my google account to access preloaded system garbage via GEForce experience. I can login to google w/ credentials but unable to verify via text email nothing on Nvidia side. Can not access basic settings to try to fix altered Win 10 interface (simple things like Alt+Tab not functioning).
Also Microsoft will not stop harassing you about DL'ing other web programs. First time you open Edge it begs you not to leave. Do a search for "Opera Download" results Bing will tell you its garbage.
Tried to install a PW manager program got a response saying, "Administrative Privileges Required, Contact System Administrator" WHAT>! I can not access basic settings on a brand new PC. My 5 year old HP trashtop gives me no trouble, but a brand new ASUS will not let me change my calendar...

The first one I received via the mail had dead pixels out of the box. It was easy to exchange at my local store, no big deal. Four days later I had a replacement. No dead pixels on this one. However, I noticed that I couldn't update the 1060 drivers. After trying the handful of normal processes you take to try and update the driver, I had to turn to support. Asus and Nvidia were not able to update it, or figure out why it wouldn't. Asus' only recommendation at the end was to buy a 6gig ram 1060 instead of the 3 gig one that it comes with. We did everything. Hours later, I decided to return it for a refund. I'll try another Asus model next time.
It was a nice laptop top. If the GPU was able to update to the current driver and not just the Asus supplied driver (which is old), I would have kept it.

Backlight bleed / IPS glow on the screen

I just got the laptop few days ago. I noticed some Backlight bleed or IPS glow at the area of upper left edge and lower left corner. I wouldn't say it is too bad however I can see it on a dark background no matter your ambient is light or dark.
I know it's a IPS panel and there is a chance having Backlight bleed or IPS glow. Not sure if it is worth to exchange and wanted to check if anyone else see the same issue from this laptop.

Fan broke after 10 days

Within 10 days of purchase the fan on the left side of the device started making a loud rattling sound, almost like a component had come loose. Fortunately Best Buy was really cool about it and ordered a replacement. It’s pretty disappointing because my old ASUS laptop is still going strong after 8 years, so I bought this one expecting that same level of durability.

Two days after I started using this computer, I turned it on to see that it could no longer access the hard drive, and it wouldn't boot up. There was absolutely nothing I could do to get this to work. I took it to a repair shop and they were able to get it to start again so I could get my files back off of it. But, they said the hard drive was bad and that it would most likely do this again. So, I returned it.

Dear Hkite,
Thank you for writing a comment for the product. I do understand your disappointment if the system will not bootup or it black screen after 2 days of usage. Usually, you will do the following to resolve the issue. Try to do a power cycle a couple of times. Shut it down completely, wait for at least 10 seconds then power on. Please wait, if the system is applying updates in the System Registry, it will black screen temporarily. If it still black screen after a few minutes, at least 10 minutes, please repeat the power cycle process again. Please verify if the AC adapter was properly connected from the laptop to a working surge protector or AC outlet and the power button is being pressed all the way down to trigger a power on signal. Also, please try to disconnect the power cable and let the unit drain for 24 hours to clear the memory and reset the hardware to default settings. After doing this, please reconnect your AC adapter then power on the unit. If you need further assistance, please email me at [email protected] and I will be more than happy to help.
