I had problems with the computer not waking up from sleep from day 1 and it completely died one year after I bought it. I tried replacing the battery but that didn’t work. The worst experience I’ve ever had with a computer and I will never but Asus again

Have always heard a lot of terrible things about Tuf laptops but this seemed like incredible value so I took a risk. Worked fine for about 2 hours then it started restarting itself every 30 seconds. Couldn't boot in safe mode, start up repair found no issues, and even would restart while trying to reinstall windows. Im just glad this issue presented day 1 and not 3 months later. At least I can return it and not deal with what I hear is a warranty they rarely honor.

You would be hard pressed to find a better laptop at this price. I love the fact that it doesn't look "to gamey". It has a high quality feel and texture. I love the fact that it has 2 m.2 slots and also that the ram is not soldered, so that can be easily upgraded as well. If not gaming, the battery life is probably the best I've seen in a gaming laptop. When having it does get pretty hot, but I think that comes with the territory. The anti-glare screen is great, and although it is fairly bright, I wish it got brighter than it does.

I really wish I could give this 5 stars.
Pros: Incredible performance for the price. As other reviewers have mentioned, this is somewhere between a 4060 and 4070 depending on the game. That is without using ray tracing. And in these lower end graphics cards, you arent going to use ray tracing. Who cares if a 4060 is giving 30 fps with ray tracing vs 20 fps with this? No one is going to play games at 30 fps. Ray tracing performance really starts matter at the upper end like 4070 TI Super or 4080.
Other pros: good screen (I find 1440p is not necessary at this screen size), nice keyboard, nice trackpad, great port selection with ability to output to 3 external monitors, AMD Smart features mainly smart access graphics which allows direct output from discrete 7700S to laptop screen, which is equivalent to Nvidia Advanced Optimus.
USBC power delivery up to 100 watts. I tested this and it works really well. Sometimes the battery has to contribute but it works. When gaming with the 100 watt usbc charger, both the CPU and GPU adjust to pull fewer watts and then FPS get limited compared to DC but it's maybe a 10-15 fps drop depending on the game.
Cons: Screen could get a little brighter. USB4 port is not compatible with any Thunderbolt 3 or 4 dock or egpu I tried with it and the USB4 port does not accept power delivery so even if you could get a TB4 dock to work with it, you would still need to charge it separately through the other USBC port or DC.
My biggest beef is the finicky smart access graphics. There is no documentation from AMD for conditions under which it works so I couldn't figure out why I was having a problem. Turns out you cannot have any external monitor connected to any port even if the monitor is disabled SAG will not work. This is in the advanced Nvidia optimus documentation. I was trying to route sound through my stereo which is connected to external monitor. The other issue with SAG is that when I use the computer connected to 3 external monitors for work using software for work and then try to game at night after disconnecting the monitors, SAG would not take hold. I did some testing, and the problem might actually be when the computer wakes up from sleep, that SAG malfuncitons. Sometimes SAG pops up that it is on, but computer is using the integrated graphics for the game, sometimes I would get weird issues like windows showing empty program windows, sometimes computer would freeze up completely. The solution was either to log out of windows and log back in or use the "Restart" function in custom resolution utility to restart the graphics cards software. Doing a Win Ctrl Shift B would not fix the issue had to do one of the 2. Restarting the computer also works but logging out and logging back in much faster. I filed bug reports with AMD we'll see if they can figure it out. When I just used the computer for web surfing with single monitor connected, and then later unplugged that single monitor, then SAG worked later in the evening. Hibernating the computer rather than letting it sleep also seemed to help with SAG working. If you want to be able to use fluid motion frames, you have to get SAG working as the integrated 680M graphics does not support AFMF.
Anyways, I love the utility I get with this computer for work and gaming so I'm very happy with it. Just wish SAG would be flawless in its implementation. Once you know the workarounds (restart with CRU or log out and log back into windows), it's not a big deal. And also anyone who games on an external monitor connected to the HDMI port just can run hybrid mode rather than SAG and not have to worry about it.

There is noticable backlight bleed on the top of the screen on two of the units i used. You can see the backlight bleeding even when playing, and you see it in a normal bright room. I exchanged my first unit because of this and the second one still had the same issue. The laptop is perfect in every other part of this but this level of quality control is unaceptable.

Let me start off by saying that his laptop is definitely worth the buy given the price point. Sure it can be upgraded beyond stock with Ram & what not, but it is definitely a steal for its capabilities if you're on budget. I decided to upgrade the memory and add an extra drive. I take this thing everywhere I go since it's pretty slim and easy to carry. I also love that its design is very subtle and doesn't scream "I'm a Gaming Laptop!" in the general public space, so you can enjoy your time at a coffee shop or general public space without attracting too much attention. Batt life is also good since the system switches between "gaming" and "default" mode when it needs to on its own, but just don't go thinking you can play a game for hours without a power adapter (it's a no-brainer to those out there still wondering).
Although other reviewers complained about little things such as fan noise and screen brightness, I think those are pretty much subjective amongst users. I have no issue with the fan at all, and my eyes are sensitive to extremely bright screens so this laptop suites me just fine for my tastes. I'm also glad the keyboard has illuminated white lights instead of the annoying rainbow colors that others can't live without, but that's also my personal preference. All in all, a great laptop for casual gamers, or those like me who like to enjoy their AAA games as well

Dear Murtaza,
Thank you for your comment.
We do understand your disappointment with the laptop and the inconvenience this may have caused if you are experiencing slow system speed or performance. Since Windows releases updates periodically, it is normal to install updates after initial Windows setup completed. To resolve the speed or performance issue, please check if Windows, drivers and BIOS are updated. Updates for this motherboard are posted at: https://www.asus.com/laptops/for-gaming/tuf-gaming/asus-tuf-gaming-a16-advantage-edition-2023/helpdesk_download?model2Name=FA617NT . Additionally, while accessing cloud games or web applications, please ensure the unit has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since poor and unstable internet connection will definitely affect system speed and performance. If these steps were performed to no avail, please try to run a diagnostics or optimization test using the "My ASUS" utility software or application. If this is not pre-installed on the laptop, please download the application at the Microsoft Store. For details on how to use "My ASUS", please go to: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1041686/.
If you need further assistance with the laptop, please email me at [email protected] and I would be more than happy to help. I tried many laptops from HP, Dell, Lenovo, and I'm surprised they didnt block my frequent returns. I got this A16, open box a few months ago for 550, in retrospect it was a steal. The best bang for the buck compared to the MSRP and others much higher. I work from home and it lasted a full 8 hour shift one day. Gaming lasted 3+ hours but I was only testing it. I would not play unplugged and I don't get why people expect any computer to last long on a single battery. The RAM and SSD are expandable. You can use the regular charger or a USBC instead. It gets hot just like anything else including my 4090 that hits 80 degrees under heavy load. Nothing out if the ordinary. This laptop has excellent reviews and if you can get it under MSRP, you won't be disappointed. You get what you pay for. No other brands came close to what I got with the A16 for the $500-600 range. I can travel, work remotely and still do decent gaming.

This Laptop is AMAZING. I’m used to running a 4-core Mac with 8 gbs of ram from a few years ago, and it’s safe to say that this is a huge upgrade, ever surpassing the technology of a desktop Alienware computer from a few years ago at a better price.
This thing can run pretty big games as well, giving a smooth experience during somethings that my other devices would definitely struggle with. Although I usually use it for casual gaming and web searching, the battery life is pretty long, and the weight isn’t too bad. I have biked about 10 miles with this computer and other things in my bag, like binders, the charger, and the regular school supplies.
The bike is also great, it has a metal top with a plastic bottom, raised platform using rubber and a superb cooling system on both sides of the pc. While plugged in and running heavy games the computer reaches about 80 degrees Celsius, which is expected given that it’s a laptop.
Another thing of course is the really removable bottom and upgradable slots, I’m planning to upgrade my ram stick, although it’s not necessary the ease of access to these components inspires me to use it, it will also be good for future courses I might take in both Psychology and Business.
All in all, great gaming laptop running games at high graphics, high frames, and good temp control. This PC again is also great for school, although it doesn’t have the best webcam it will definitely do for any assignments.

The ASUS TUF Gaming A16 Advantage Edition (2023) is a solid mid-range gaming laptop that pairs AMD Ryzen CPUs with Radeon GPUs for strong gaming and multitasking performance. Its 16-inch screen comes in either 165Hz FHD+ or 240Hz QHD+ options, making it great for gaming and content creation. The build is durable and includes a comfortable full-size keyboard, though it gets warm during heavy use. Its standout feature is a long battery life of up to 13 hours for light tasks, rare in gaming laptops. However, it’s bulky, has a dim FHD+ display, and a mediocre webcam, which may affect portability and everyday usability.

Great mid range gaming for the money

I got this on sale for $828 through a holiday sale, and I have to say for the money, I couldn't be happier. Construction seems sturdy. It's plenty fast for most games. I didn't have the washed out display others have mentioned. Perhaps it was a driver issue that has since been fixed (I updated all drivers before anything else, so maybe that was it). Regardless; for me, the display is bright, with deep colors and good sharpness. Battery life for regular use is very good, but drops significantly when gaming as you'd expect. 16 gig of RAM is more than most budget mid range laptops give you, but you can still max it out with some of the more memory hungry games/programs. The 512GB SSD is just too small for a gaming rig. Thankfully, there's both a second SSD slot and an open memory slot which will be receiving upgrades soon. Fan noise can be a little loud when gaming but not so much to be a nuisance. The fans keep the rig reasonably cool under load so no complaints here.
All in all it's been a great midrange performer for me, and any shortcomings (RAM, SSD) are both upgradable, and reflected in the price.

Light for a gaming laptop, with a bigger bathery than most orhers in this size. Lots of ports. Bluetooth and wifi. Display is above average/pretty good for this price range. Bottom cover is easy to remove, and the spare M.2 slot is easy to find. I added an Acer 2tb gen 4 pcie drive there. As with any computer, you will need to create a partiton and format the new drive in order for Windows to recognize and use it. Don’t forget to change the default installation path in your game launch center (i.e., Steam, Epic, EA, etc.) to the new drive letter once you’re ready. The RAM is tucked away under some insulation, but still very easy to swap. I removed the 2 Samsung 8gb modules from the factory and dropped in a pair of DDR5 4800 16gb sticks from Team Group. I dont think I’d pay full price, but when it was on markdown mid-December, I couldn’t pass it up. My teenage daughter is just starting to get more serious into gaming, and this is a great laptop to explore that world. I would suggest a cooling mat for under this laptop, as the fans have to work hard enough to keep it cool without air flow restriction from clothes or blankets. Naturally, it can do the daily homework, internet/email, and other office-type stuff, too. And with the larger battery, it can stay off the charger for quite a while when doing those non-gaming things. Overall a very solid choice. I actually prefer this one over the Gigabyte G6 KF laptop I got myself last year.
