The ASUS MV500 Mini Tower is an extremely nice general-purpose computer with a great set of features to enable families to elevate their computing tasks including school, entertainment and gaming. The system is capable and comes with Windows 11 Home, can support up to a Core™ i7-13620H processor, with to 64GB of DDR5 RAM and Up to 2TB + 2TB SSD +HDD support dual upgradable M.2 slots. The specific model (model Number: V500MVC-I51TB) reviewed here is a Core™ i5-13420H processor with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. This model runs with Intel UHD Graphics, integrated with the motherboard and has an HDMI 1.4 and a DisplayPort 1.4 for connecting monitors. I can confirm that these ports will each drive a 4K 27” monitor at 3840 x 2160 resolution. The motherboard does have 1 open PCI-E x16 slot that can support up to a GeForce RTX™ 4060 graphics card. For USB ports the system has 4 x USB-A 2.0, 2 x USB-A 3.2, 1 x USB-C 3.2 with two of the USB-A-2.0 slots being designated for the keyboard and mouse to support USB K/B power on functionality. The 2 USB-A 3,2 and the USB-C 3.2 ports are front mounted for ease of access. Additional connectivity options include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 6 with integrated 2x2 antennas to provide for strong, reliable wireless connections. This system uses a cooling fan and heat pipe cooling solution that ensures a quiet operation – coming in under 38 dB in performance mode and can be reduced to 0db when the fan is not in operation. I had at times had to check and see if the system was still on. With all this good, you may be wondering what the downsides are. Ther are very few. While expansion is limited, a quick look at the Maintenance manual (downloadable from the ASUS site provides instructions for adding devices) there are instructions for adding a slimline optical drive, and a hard drive – which mounts to the front end of the case in a vertical manner and both devices connect to the motherboard for power and data (see accompanying images) . Additionally, there is an ability to add a second solid state drive as well as the ability to upgrade the RAM – which is SODIMM based and has 2 slots for memory. These are very nice options to be able to improve the capabilities of the system. The reality is that many people use external devices these days to provide for expanded drive capacity and versatility and as such this system continues to shine. Overall, I believe that this is an extremely nice mini tower-based system that provides a lot of versatility and usefulness to its users. For me, this machine will be replacing an eight-year-old tower PC that is not upgradable to Windows 11. I look forward to using this machine for quite some time.

    ASUS Desktop

I’ve been very impressed with the ASUS V500 Desktop. The Intel Core i5 processor paired with 16GB of memory makes everyday tasks incredibly smooth, whether I’m multitasking, working with documents, browsing the web, or streaming content. Everything loads quickly and runs without lag. The 1TB SSD is a major highlight—it offers plenty of storage space while delivering fast boot times and quick file access. The system starts up in seconds, and applications open almost instantly. This is a big upgrade compared to traditional hard drives. Design-wise, the dark gray tower looks sleek and modern without being flashy, making it a great fit for both home and office environments. It’s also surprisingly quiet, even when running multiple programs at once. Overall, the ASUS V500 Desktop offers strong performance, ample storage, and excellent reliability at a reasonable price. It’s a great choice for professionals, students, or anyone looking for a dependable desktop for daily use. I would definitely recommend it.

This is a replacement for my 10+ year old Dell that stopped connecting to the internet. The new tower weighs less and has a much smaller footprint. The internet connection is good and the storage capacity is more than adequate for my photo and music files. It's a no frills, basic computer that meets my needs. The only downside was that I had to return to Best Buy to get an adapter to connect the tower to my monitor. My old computer had a VGA port for the monitor and the new ASUS has an HDMI port.

My nana needed a computer, and this is what we ended up going with. It’s fast, it’s performing well, and the 16GB of RAM and 1TB SSD is more than enough for us.

    Simple Slim Desktop

If you’re looking for a simple desktop PC this isn’t a bad start, but don’t expect much for graphics or gaming. Starting out with the setup, it’s like any Windows PC with a little bit of ASUS built in. Expect to wait some time as you get updates, but that’s normal. In the box you get the desktop computer and it also came with a mouse and keyboard. If you already have a mouse and keyboard you’ll probably stick with those. These are not bad but also not something impressive. interesting there was no HDMI or Display Port, while it doesn’t come with a monitor it is still a little odd. As far as performance goes, this isn’t anything special but also does work for simple office work. If you’re using a browser and need a desktop, then this is an OK start. Since there isn’t a GPU though that’s about all you’ll do. With is being a desktop, you can do an upgrade and add a GPU, but at least with the way that the one I got is setup, it didn’t get one. Anyway, not much to say about this. The price isn’t crazy and its a decent simple desktop if you are looking for that, but you should also check out a laptop that comes with a screen and is portable that might be a better start since you’ll also need to get a monitor with a desktop.

A great system in a compact case that packs a good punch of power for most needs. The built-in graphics card can easily power through basic video and photo editing and the processor has enough power behind it to run multiple applications simultaneously. For the price this is a great system. Only small issue I would have with it is there is not any legacy ports such as a VGA on the back but shot of that there is nothing else I could fault the system for.

The ASUS - V500 Desktop - Intel Core i5 - 16GB Memory - 1TB SSD - Dark Grey desk top computer appears to be a purpose built machine targeting small businesses and mostly no nonsense type users. It has the specs to be a well rounded out business desk top, or a personal computer for someone that only uses a computer to check their email, maybe watch a few funny videos, or might occasionally engage in a casual game or two.. this PC is as basic as they can come. It claims it will handle 4k streaming, and in my tests that was hit or miss. 4k60 would freeze and stutter, but 4k30 would play as long as I let it buffer, and I wasn't using the computer for any back ground tasks or downloading anything. To be fair I tested this PC over WIFI, and not ethernet, so it might perform better when hardwired. I did open the side panel to see if it was upgradeable, and the answer is maybe... it uses a really unique CPU cooling set up, and it also appears to be permanently mounted. The power supply is also unique, and I'm not sure it's large enough to support anything stronger than the current build. the power supply, as well as the mother board all seem to be custom made for this PC also, so I'm not confident that there is an upgrade path. There is 1 open PCIe socket, but I don't think it would support an aftermarket graphics card that was much stronger than the onboard graphics due to how small the power supply looks to be. Overall the PC is free from almost any bloatware besides what MS includes with their Windows software, and the standard Asus programs. The included version of Windows 11 would not allow me to skip the MS account sign up, even using the command prompt, and Administrator tricks... I searched high and low online and couldn't find anything that would allow me to bypass the MS mandatory log in. Overall it's not a bad PC for the price. But it's also nothing to write home about. I would recommend it if you just plan on checking your email and maybe watching a few videos etc.. if you game or video edit, or just like a nice fast PC, then this isn't for you.

I accedently hit a wrong key an alarms sounded that I had been cronies. I called the Geek Squad and took my computer to my Local Best Buy. My computer was old so I purchased a new desktop. The best thing was that the Geek Squad downloaded all my data for free as I am a Member of the Total Best Buy Club. Before I left I received a tutorial on the new operating system. What a difference this new Asces Computer makes. Writing my lengthy documents is made easier. Thank You Best Buy and the Geek Squad!

I haven't set up this computer yet -- I bought it because my 12-year-old Windows 10 Dell computer has been glitching -- but I bought this one for one primary reason; I can connect speakers to it! I was looking at moderate-priced Dell computers, except that there weren't any speaker inputs in the back of them. The Asus that I bought has all 3 outlets, which are Line In, Line Out, and Speakers. For whatever reason, many low & moderate-priced desktop computers ($400-$700) come without even a basic speaker connector. Why is that? Be sure to check the back of any desktop machine before purchase, because you might be in for a surprise when you try to plug in your speaker system!

I'll admit, I prefer my computers like a toaster. Easy to use and predictable results. This ASUS has not lived up to that standard. I bought it to replace an older HP Pavilion running Windows 10. The ASUS was easy enough to set up, but proved balky when trying to create a Recovery disk (I was never successful at that, and Geek Squad was less than helpful). Then it suddenly started having problems connecting to my 5GHz WiFi source. Other devices in the network have no issues. File History was much less user friendly than on the HP. Then there's the fan running all the time, even when the computer is asleep. There's probably more. I've spent a lot of hours trying to dial the thing in. If it wasn't for the increased storage over my HP, I'd probably have returned this and just upgraded the Pavilion to Windows 11 and pressed on. Overall I'm not impressed with the ASUS, and would not recommend it.
