It is locked down into S-Mode and removing that restriction was not very easy... When I finally removed smode, it is a light use computer. S-Mode would be great for kids or even seniors.

He is pleased with the performance. The size and weight of it are very convenient. He uses it for his classes, writing, and web browsing. It's a solid little computer.

In less than a year several of the keyboard buttons stopped working (had to buy an external keyboard because Bestbuy couldn't figure out why, not dirty, updates were all in place, etc.). Now, with only a years use, it won't turn on. Neither Asus nor Bestbuy will stand by this purchase, which is real nice. I expected more from both, but neither would do anything to help other than tell me I can pay them $200-300 to fix a computer I paid $250 for.

We certainly understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused if this laptop will no longer power on. ASUS is an ISO certified company, as a result, all products go into a strict quality manufacturing standard. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections that ensure each one is trouble-free. The keyboard not working and this laptop not powering on after a year of usage are random problems. If the laptop will not power on, boot up or it's just black screen, do the following. Try to do a power cycle by pressing and holding down the power button to shut it down completely, then power on. If it powers on but stays on black screen after at least 10 minutes, repeat the power cycle process again. If the laptop is applying updates in the System Registry, it will black screen temporarily until the update is applied successfully. Additionally, please try to disconnect the power cable and let the unit drain for 24 hours to clear the memory. This will reset the hardware to default settings. After doing this, please reconnect your AC adapter, do not power on the laptop until the battery is charged.
