Went to the store and all the offered was a refund, not even a charger or anything. Stay away from these clowns.

The 128GB SSD is barely large enough to do anything. I purchased this as a "school computer for my 13 year old. We will see if it works ought or not. Also, I have yet to look into it in detail but I understand that it is almost impossible to upgrade the SSD and add memory to this machine. We shall see.

No frills Windows laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The Vivobook appears to be a relatively inexpensive way to get a full Windows laptop, although it just has the very basic features. If that’s what you’re looking for, then this may be perfect for you. As you can see in the specs it’s an i3 processor with minimal 8GB RAM and 128GB solid state drive. It also comes in Windows S mode, which was a new thing to me. That just means it’s locked down to only installing apps from the Microsoft store. Depending on how you intend to use the laptop, this may be a good thing. I discovered the S mode when trying to install Chrome, but I decided I could live with Explorer and continue trying it out. You can switch out of S mode to regular Windows, but then you can never go back. A couple things I noticed when first using the laptop were that the screen is not a touchscreen, and the keyboard has no backlighting. But the screen is clear and easy to see (though it has a narrow viewing angle) and I like the feel of the keyboard. The touchpad is quite usable, too, and seems better than touchpads I’ve struggled with on other more expensive laptops. The WiFi interface says that it’s 802.11ac, but it’s only connecting at 802.11n in my home network at 150Mbps. My home network is a brand new Orbi 960 series mesh with my other Windows devices connecting WiFi 6/6e anywhere from 574Mbps to 1.2Gbps. For the Vivobook, 150Mbps isn’t bad but it’ll take a bit longer to download Windows updates than what I’m used to on a 1Gbps connection. I like that the power brick is small and light, so it’ll be easy to carry around. The prongs don’t retract, though, in keeping with the no frills design. The laptop itself is lightweight and a good size to easily slip into a backpack. Overall, I’m happy with this laptop for light email, web browsing, and O365 use.

Best Buy never again

I am over 70 and even I know this laptop is a joke. Edge doesn't allow any websites to open. Happens constantly. Clearing cookies and cache and DNS cache do nothing. Support won't support unless you pay a fortune for the Geek Squad. Can't even return it.

White Screen of Death

The laptop looked in great condition. Upon starting the laptop and getting it set up a white screen appeared and would not let me do anything on the computer, I returned it for a full refund. Although open-box items are a good value, they are not necessarily worth it.

Just a new chromebook

It is OK !

It is all plastic on the outside, moderately thick with thick bezels on the screen portion, but not very heavy. It is not touch screen and does not feel premium. The screen has limited opening but acceptable. There is no finger print reader. Battery life is more than acceptable. It runs in the limited S mode, but which is supposed to be very secure from virus. Will only work with Microsoft Edge, so no Chrome. Having said this, this is a capable machine. Display is decent, sound is acceptable. Speed is good and all the necessary components are there and it works well. The S mode can be removed, but they advise against it. On a previous laptop with S mode, I have removed it without any issues. It simply makes it more like a regular laptop for downloads, but more open to bad actors. For the occasional user and the basic user this is an excellent machine. It does the basic required function of a computer well, and is priced right. The main thing I miss and causes me some operational issues, is the lack of touch screen. I find myself try to use my finger to scroll, or select and getting frustrated when it doesn't respond. But then to focus, all the other functions work well, and at the price point there is no complaint !

Basic laptop for basic needs

The laptop provided by my company is pretty high end so going to this Asus laptop is a huge difference. The display is just the right size and the resolution is just okay. The Intel Core i3 processor is enough for basic tasks. I only plan on using this laptop for web browsing and streaming videos on youtube. So far, the machine has performed as expected without any issues. I don’t do heavy word processing or spreadsheets, but I think if you have a huge file such as in Excel that has a lot of formulas, graphs or macros, this machine might not be able to perform as fast. The 8GB memory with 128GB SSD is also enough for my intended use. I was able to transfer and save a few thousand photos and videos from my SD card into the laptop without any problem. Overall, I consider this as a basic laptop that will work if you just want a personal laptop for browsing the internet and watching videos on YouTube. It is an okay laptop for the price. I would suggest a more powerful laptop if you are doing more complicated tasks.

Asus is on their game
